GCam | POCO X2 | best and stable - Xiaomi Poco X2 Themes, Apps, and Mods

As we all know the POCO X2 has one of the best sensor i.e. IMX686 for its main shooter but the jpg conversation algorithm of stock camera is not upto the mark. Stock cam images are slightly over saturated, Little bit warm in tint, and when you zoom in; the details of textures looks like oil painted and not that much accurate and sharp to the edges. Though its completely software dependant thing so can be improved.
Also front camera of POCO X2 is not upto the mark its having f2.2 aperture, due to which details and textures capturing is just average in selfies .
To enhance the camera performance of POCO X2 to get full advantage of IMX686 we can use GCam. As the GCam is modified application for few perticular devices it's hard to find the perfectly working gcam port for our device. (Though as per my observation on several popular smartphones, GCam ports works best on Nokia smartphones the condition is you should have to search a lot for perfect mode.)
For POCO X2 as per posted on Gcam Port Hub there are multiple working GCams available; but the problem is final image production from those modes are different, some are over sharpen, some are to soften, some looks too artificial, some are very good but poor in capturing details, some are good at low-light and some at daylight.
So as i tried gcam ports of almost all top developers on POCO X2; here are some of the versions that i found good in major aspects.
MGC_7.3.020_Parrot043-v2.apk
DMGC_7.2.018_ver.3.15.apk
HyperCam-RaizenA-10.apk
POCOX2_F1v9.6_6.2.030.apk
:
Also some users are using PixelCam_Plus_V2.0.apk and UltraCVM_v5.apk but i didn't find both of this that much good, might be I don't know the good settings for them.
For the 7.4.x version for POCO X2 i tried NGCam_7.4.104-v1.0_gcam.apk which is working fine and images of it are fine.
So if anyone find any other better GCam modes that are working good on POCO X2 then please share it in this thread. Also can suggest best settings, libs and .XMLs here.

Google Camera Mod for P20 Pro

Hello @Arnova8G2,
I saw your work with the Google Camera Mod for various phones and I just want to say impressive work! I am using the Huawei P20 Pro and absolutely hates the Front Camera functionality. Tried to download your file to use on my phone but was unable to do so. When I try downloading it is says there as a problem parsing the package. Do you by any chance know if it would work with the P20 Pro? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.
Dear @Arnova8G2 & @miniuser123,
I had S8 and you do fantastic job porting Pixel Xl 2 camera to all SD845 phones. And some other make port for LGV30 dual camera - rear camera and second wide angle camera.
Please make Pixel Xl 2 camera port for Huawei P20 Pro for 40MP, 10MP and camera zoom 3x, 5x.

It makes absolutely no sense to do 40MP. It's the inferior mode, and processing overhead would be insane for HDR, even with full optimisation (which you'll never see on a port). It wouldn't work.
Only 10MP makes sense.
5x is a hybrid zoom. You'd need the Huawei software. Google Camera currently has no such functionality. Not that it supports any optical zoom (3x) by default either.
You can perhaps hope for 10MP with working HDR+ and front camera. Anything else? I'd say it's completely unrealistic / unnecessary.
After the software updates, the only thing I'd really see Google Camera as being useful for is the front camera and / or for AOSP when that becomes stable on the P20 Pro. But by then, a working port of Huawei Camera on the P20/Pro is quite likely - or at least more likely, and certainly more desirable than a Google Camera port.

Yes, I am just hoping for the Front Camera to have the same Portrait Mode as the Google Camera as the Beauty Mode post-processing is through the roof even with it turned to zero. I am just hoping to use the Front Camera I have on the P20 to achieve the same Portrait result as I did from the Pixel 2 XL. Everything else about the P20 camera I can live with. Thank you.

Yes! Finally someone who has the same struggle as I have!
P20 pro is a pretty expensive phone and I am beginning to feel disappointed with the less than stellar quality of its front camera.
I know that its a fixed focus lens on the front but how come Gogle Pixel was able to implement a sharp shooter front camera with a fixed focus? To think that it has 24 Megapixels?!?! Such a scam

I don't think you understand what scam means.
Also, whilst not ideal, I suggest you learn how to work with fixed focus. You will not get bad results with it if you do, now that 'beauty' is in check.

Hi @mudnightoil,
sorry for the rather strong term that I used. But yes, I have been trying to learn some workarounds with a fixed focus front camera. It's just that, it's difficult to adjust because I was just so used to autofocus front cameras like Asus Selfie. I just feel like the 24 megapixel camera of the p20 pro is a wasted potential.
Another argument that I have is with Google Pixel's 8 mp fixed focus lens producing more vivid and sharper selfies than P20 pro's 24 mp.
Both the background and the foreground are sharp. Dynamic range is better! I mean come on! I really hope it could be fixed via software update very soon!

Other than the shortcomings of the front camera, I have no other complaints with the P20 pro.

Same issue here ...the rear cameras are great ..but the front camera beautification is just too agressive even when set to zero . A google camera mod with HDR+ in just 10mp for rear camera and portrait enabled on both the front and rear will be really helpful .

That's not a GCam port, that's to install the P20 Pro Camera software on a non-pro P20.
So far as I'm aware you'll need the libs to get it to work properly.
Tbh the pro has a monster camera set up.
The 40mp is more for landscape pics, the 10 for point and shoot.
the selfie cam has been great for me so far.
But then I've only had it since 11am 24th may so I'm sure I'll find some issues.
The rear cameras are great and on average they take better pictures than my Pixel 2. I also end up with pictures that I just otherwise would never have been able to capture with another cameraphone. There are some downsides though where I would love to use a hypothetical GCam port. Outdoor photography is a chore thanks to the auto "greenery" AI thing that cranks the saturation. The 10 MP auto mode also oversharpens like crazy. Pro mode is sometimes useful, but you lose things like HDR or aperture simulation which are lame tradeoffs.
The biggest issue for me though is the front camera, which is completely unusable thanks to the beauty mode that can't actually be fully disabled. I'm using Retrica right now which works pretty well but you lose the nice aperture/bokeh simulation of the P20 camera app. Small price to pay for a human looking face, but anyway that's mainly why I'm hoping for a GCam port.
I am very interested in development. Maybe it's possible.

I've tested the 40MP on everything... it's fantastic. The detail I get out of each picture is a huge step up even from my old DSLR. Granted, I did not have an expensive lens, but the processing power on this phone easily surpasses that camera!

The 10MP mode is superior in almost any setting. Hence why it's the default mode. That the 40MP mode is even exposed is mainly for marketing reasons.

That's not the case at all from my experience comparing 10 vs 40 vs 3x zoom in various situations.
In low light, 40mp is poor, but in well lit places, 40mp is far more detailed, less over-sharpened, and significantly nicer overall.
It's generally less processed, and HDR etc doesn't seem to be enabled on it, but it's certainly not inferior to 10mp in general, but is occasionally.
If you want to do any post processing, the 40mp is probably better in general... though I guess few would want to do this!

Is the Nokia 8 camera still sub-par with latest software?

Hi
With the latest Nokia Camera Pro or a suitable GCam installed, is it fair to say that the Nokia 8's camera performance is now reasonably acceptable, say, comparable to a good 2017 mid-range phone, and with usable OIS?
Or do you think it is still sub-par?
In addition to picture quality, practical issues like focusing speed and accuracy are also important considerations.
Thanks in advance for any feedback.
I have a GCam mod installed, Arnova's version and in my opinion the picture quality is very good, at least in good light conditions. In difficult light conditions the camera still has its limits. The Nokia Pro Camera app has not changed much here in my opinions though there is potential for future improvement. However, we have to see what Nokia can deliver. That being said, the picture quality in my opinion with a suitable GCam mod is more than sufficient and I have taken some very nice pictures with the phone already. I definitely do not think it is any worse than a 2017 mid ranger. I have not experienced issues with auto focus on the GCam mods.
I use the Nokia app almost exclusively now, it still has some silly problems but the image output is satisfactory for a phone snapper.
I used to use a mix of GCam and the nokia pro app. In good light the photos are really good.
The main issue i had was the phone never focused when i used to point it downwards (say for example taking a photo of my dog). i had to hold it facing up and wait for it to focus and then take the photo.
Hi
Has the Nokia 8's camera performance improved even further with the latest GCam CStark version, which seems to be the preferred mod on XDA? Would any user care to share their recent experience?
Thanks!
Hopeless in low light, ok in day light.
GCam helps a lot.
I use the latest Arnova version and it works very well, also in lowlight.
Wirh gcam very best , nice pics , nokia software is ****

Camera quality between K20 Pro and OP 7 Pro

I'm planning to buy a new phone with better custom ROM support, but confused between these two - K20 Pro and OnePlus 7 Pro. The price of both phones are at different extends.
So if the K20 Pro has better or comparable quality in the camera section against OP 7 Pro I would definitely go for K20 Pro and can save money for others. Please share your thoughts on this.
OP 7 pro has better camera, but K20 pro camera isn't not bad at all for day to day normal shots taking, if you're a camera guy then it's OP > K20
Sent from my Redmi K20 Pro using Tapatalk
The only real reason to get OP 7 Pro over K20 is for OIS. Makes a real difference during low light and while shooting video.
Wide-angle camera is also a little better and has manual focus. During day time, you won't get much difference cause both have same main sensor. GCam fixes most of the color inconsistencies for both phones.
If you plan on shooting at night time, I highly suggest you go for OnePlus. Even the 7T has OIS so that's a good middle ground [and has 2x zoom instead of 3x].
You shouldn't believe anything you read in the tech press about OnePlus phones--especially what you read on XDA.
OnePlus fired all of the programmers who created Oxygen after OnePlus Marshmallow and moved all coding to the Hydrogen team in China to save money.
Hydrogen was supposedly the Chinese ROM for OnePlus phones--but since OnePlus doesn't actually sell phones in China they were programming a ROM nobody used.
Since Oxygen Nougat coding on OnePlus phones has been completely inept--a fact that is widely known among developers and software engineers but not discussed on XDA.
The last OnePlus phone developers actually used was the OP3T--which was the last OnePlus phone released before the Oxygen programmers were fired.
All development for OnePlus phones is artificially sustained by OnePlus who gives free phones to developers since they would never spend their own money on OnePlus devices.
Since developers don't actually use OnePlus phones as their daily driver ROMs and kernels for OnePlus phones are compiled. These ROMs always have bugs--any build of any custom ROM for a OnePlus phone always has bugs even if it's supposedly stable.
Since OnePlus ROMs are compiled by developers who don't use the phones daily themselves multiple ROMs will often have the exact same bugs at the same time. Someone will post code to fix the bug on GitHub and if the code is approved all of the devs for the various ROMs will incorporate the same code into their own ROMs.
Usually developers of OnePlus custom ROMs don't know there are bugs in their "stable" ROMs until users report them and these bugs are sometimes serious enough to affect the basic functionality of the phone.
I personally used "stable" OnePlus custom ROMs that wouldn't boot up beyond the splash screen, where the ability to make or receive calls was broken, where Bluetooth, WiFi or GPS was broken, where opening the settings or trying to make a call would completely crash the UI--you get the idea--and this was all on ROMs that were labeled as stable.
Because the firmware on OnePlus phones is ineptly coded it's impossible to take decent pictures without using the ported Google Camera App--a $200 phone from Samsung or Xiaomi takes better pictures than a $700 OnePlus phone using the native OnePlus Camera app.
OnePlus phones are overpriced and ineptly coded--phones from Xiaomi and Honor are a much better value.
Don't read too much into the above post.
As far as hardware is concerned, there is not much difference between the 2, with the exception of OIS being added to the OP phone. Both have the same Sony sensor as the main module, but OP have slightly better secondary modules.
Software wise Xiaomi seem to be ahead of OP, in terms of computational photography. As I see it, Google and Huawei are way ahead, with Samsung third and probably Xiaomi 4th when it comes to computational photography.
So OP edge the camera hardware, but Xiaomi edge the camera software.
I also in confusion about these two phones.
Finally Op cancelled only for Headphone jack.

Already checked, viewed videos and read many articles. But I want to hear from real people besides reviews, that's why I'm asking.
- are the images great with the photos taken with GCam?
- does the EIS work with all three cameras? or with any camera?
- if the K20 Pro is compared to OnePlus 6T in camera how do you rate them?

- GCam makes colors match up closely. Night mode is minorly better on the OP, but for a casual user it's not incredibly noticeable. Astrophotography is just as good as on any other phone. Main cameras are the same on both phones (48MP Sony), while wide angle is minorly better on the OP (imo, not enough of a quality difference to justify price difference)
- EIS works with main camera on both phones in GCam, OP has OIS on main camera as well. Neither phone can take wide angle video in gcam. OP can't take wide angle video in stock, K20 Pro can.
- K20 Pro is very significantly better than 6T. It matches with the OP 7 Pro much better.

Thank you so much for the details mate. But unfortunately I'll be buying a pre-owned OnePlus 7T tomorrow. A deal is almost confirmed. I found a couple of things of 7T better for me than K20 Pro. The motorized pop-up camera is one I don't like in K20 Pro, and that's why I'm not even picking 7 Pro, which I can get in the same range. Also I love the 90Hzv display.
These things are too personal and I won't say that K20 Pro is not a good one. It's a great device and I should have brought earlier once but I didn't have money that time.
Anyways thanks again for the detailed information.
EDIT: Just dropped the deal because of unreliability.
I just use GCam and it's miles better than the stock op7

i made a few pictures with both apps. just my summary:
1.xiaomi has better dynamic range, or in other words, brighter shadow.
2.xiaomi's color is more accurate. gcam has a cold color tone to it.
3.gcam is somewhat shaper without the weird sharpening effect.
4.gcam removes fringing a lot better, on edge of big color shift of two objects (tree vs sky, black bottle vs white background), it has a clear boundary, xiaomi is more murky-looking.
5.overall gcam exposure is a tad lower than xiaomi's.
6.gcam only has 1x and 2x, no wide angle. for potrait, it has 1x and 1.3x, picture seems to have very bad exposure.
7.all pictures were taken indoors, so i haven't compared the outdoor pictures.
i wouldn't switch.

Always find mi cam exposure half a stop overexposure....even more so at highlighted area that hdr fail to control sometime. And their awb is always wrong under warmer lighting condition. But there are more Gcam mod to try out. But I do notice...some Gcam mod had that weird green tint to white color background.

7.all pictures were taken indoors, so i haven't compared the outdoor pictures.
i wouldn't switch.

1. Better HDR ? That's strange. However if it's just that the shadows are underexposed with gcam, that's somethign you can fix in the settings. Gcam is tuned for the imx363, obviously it's going to need some tweaks to work well on the gn2.
2. Make sure you have AWB on.
5. Again, exposure can be tweaked. Right now BSG has one of the most versatile, easily tweakable mods.
6. This you need to inform the devs about. Gcam is only acessing one sensor here, and digitally cropping 2x. But you can probably access both the 0.5 and 5x lenses as well. If the devs can make Sabre work on them this will lead to much better detail on both these lenses.

unfortunately there's no Auxiliary lens support.
Be aware that next Wichaya version will work perfectly.
Been using for weeks and it's great.

I tried it and didn't notice a lot of difference
You actually lose some camera functionality ?

You are trying a GCAM posted 1 month ago and that version is a cstark version from january:
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-cstark27/
Mi 11 Ultra was released not long time ago and GCAM development is poor. You need try newer GCAM versions to find a better one, not OP link from a clickbait website. Check always latest releases here:

Pixel on the left and stock Xiaomi on the right, no settings altered

Do you think is better than official? Can Gcam extract the full potential of the cameras?

Question Google camera port on oppo find x3

I've ported over a version of the Google camera..https://www.cyanogenmods.org/google-camera-oppo-find-x3-pro-gcam/
Google camera 8.1
Below is is an example of the only photos I've managed to take so far. However the Google camera port definitely has a more natural tone. The oppo camera has a more vivid look to it
Have you found a way to support auxiliary lenses ?
I prefer Oppo's colour science over GCam there.
There are a couple of good X3 pro v pixel 5 comparisons out there on YouTube. There is no reason to want the Google cameras.
Part of the joy of android is being able to play around with stuff like this regardless of weather you need it or not, don't you think?
okokok,very thanks
What is the status of GCam port for X3 Pro? Everyone happy using stock camera?
Is this only mod working or we can try many other ports as well?

There's many new builds released like MGC and LMC that work good also without an XML, for MGC you can download the aweme package that can shot with wide lens but have a bug on normal lens, I prefer LMC for normal shot in day light, you can find all simply searching on telegram
