So a while back my brother was complaining that he as getting storage issues etc. So I decided to remove that bloatware using a specific set of tools. It asked me to downgrade, which I did using the tool's utility. And lo and behold, boom my KINDLE FIRE 7TH GENERATION, 2017 (AUSTIN) no longer boots, or receives charge. When plugged it comes up as mt65xx preloader, and it disconnects and reconnects. I would really like to fix this since I am able to open it up and do whatever needed. This tablet has been bugging me for a while and I would really like to fix it. Also, I can longer return to Amazon unfortunately, so returning is not a option. I will do whatever needed to fix this paperweight.
THANKS!!

I have the drivers installed on my computer, I got them from amazon. When I go to device manager it says kindle fire and under that connected by adb.
When I went to use sparky3's root program it tells me to turn on ADB on the device. I have a Kindle HD 7 inch 8 gig storage.
From everything I have read it says that it should be under security, it isn't. for later models it is under device. I have checked every where on my Kindle and there is no option to turn on ADB. So I have no idea how to proceed .
The device was a gift, and used both, however it has my name in the upper left corner, and is linked to my amazon prime account, parental controls are off, I can't think of anything that would restrict me from seeing that as an option.
Do I maybe have to upgrade my firmware, and can I? I'm running 6.3.3 but it says there are no new updates when I try to updater.
Any and all help would be appreciated.
Hey Guys,
I recently picked up a (as far as I can tell) Kindle Fire HD 7 2014 (4th gen?). I know my way around various devices (HTC One M7, Nexus 5, Galaxy S6) and I'm decent with fastboot/adb and understanding how to install custom ROM/Kernel/Recovery on devices. However, after spending some time reading through this forum...I'm stumped. The only clear cut guides seem to be for the 2012 version, and some guides are ambiguous and don't state which version. Could anyone give me a few tips? I'm looking to install custom Recovery/ROM, maybe kernel. Thanks for reading this
I too have this issue. I can't tell what hardware I have, except that I just bought it for Amazon "prime day". Any info would be greatly appreciated.

My Kindle 7HD from "Prime Day" arrived today.
I've been fooling around with Android alternative ROMs for a few years - mostly Cyanogen but I've tried others too. At this point, I like the Kindle hardware, but the software has to go. This is not my first Kindle - I had one of the original Fires - but they've done a lot to try to lock it down.
Here's what I've learned so far...
Tha Amazon Developers Forum indicates that ADB will work with the Fire HD (4th generation):
https://developer.amazon.com/appsan...etting-up-your-kindle-fire-tablet-for-testing
I have gotten the Developer Options to work. In the Device Options screen, tap the Serial Number field 7 times, just like tapping the Version number field in Cyanogen. Now I can enable ADB (Under Debugging but when I connect to my Mac, adb doesn't recognize the Fire. I have the Android File Transfer app on my Mac, and that connects just fine... and adb works properly with my other Android devices.
Any advice or links would be welcome. I've searched around XDA but it seems that all the stuff for older Fires no longer works.

Walts, is your fire recognized, but just unauthorized, or not recognized at all?
adb devices comes back empty.
Android File Transfer responds with a file listing of the Fire.
Fastboot devices comes back empty and locks up my Mac.
According to the Amazon developers forum, I should be clicking YES to Allow USB debugging but I haven't found that on any menu. All I've found is Enable ADB which I have set "on".

This might be a good starting point.
I've found this thread on a slightly different forum about installing TWRP on a Fire HD 2014
How to install TWRP boot recovery-2014
Hey everyone! I think I just found the best bang for the buck tablet that has some great root development going on. I recently destroyed the display my Galaxy S4 which I had rooted and working quite well for the longest time. I only used the device to game (Clash of Clans rooted with Xmod) and mostly on Wifi. I think the Kindle would be a great replacement and probably at 1/8 of the cost of a another phone or tablet.
2 quick questions before I buy..
1. If I were to buy one today, what are the chances of it not coming with 5.1.2?
2. Once I have rooted my device, how well does Xmodgames and Clash work together? This is more of a questions for my gamers out there.. any suggestions appreciated
I just got mine today and it came with 5.0.0 on it. The moment I connected it to wifi it started to download a new patch, so I disconnected immediately. Now I'm just wondering what I should do next, but at least I still just have 5.0.0 on it
Use the SuperTool to block the OTA updates before you connect the Fire to the internet! Then you are free to root, flash new OS etc.
It all depends what you want to do with it, but if you want to install a custom rom, this is one option:

I bought it from Amazon. During it's initial setup I connected it to wireless and then it said it was going to update. I was worried about it updating to 5.1.2, so I actually reset the tablet before it could complete the update. Then turned the wireless off.
What I found though was that kingroot wouldn't work. So I let the first update complete once, and it updated to 5.1.1, and said it was now ready to update to 5.1.2. That's the point where I ran rootjunky's supertool and disabled OTA updates and the system update screen. This effectively killed the 5.1.2 update, even though it had already downloaded in the background and just needed me to restart the tablet. I then went ahead and installed google apps and the various other things noted in the tips and tricks thread.
ymmv, I kind of bodged my install. Widget's don't work, but I believe that may be a problem with Fire OS for which there is no easy fix
That's weird, bought mine at the start of March, from Amazon, got here with 5.1.1.
So chances are there is no 5.1.2 currently, probably they are just getting rid of old stock but maybe soon in a couple months 5.1.2 will be loaded on all of them, so better "act now".

if it was on 5.0.X just needed to boot into fastboot mode and boot twrp with fastboot.exe

Just got my Amazon Fire tablet from Amazon.com today. It had 5.1.1 installed on it.
I've got this nice fresh tablet ready to be rooted and it's sitting on 5.3.1.0. I've removed it's ability to connect to wi-fi to prevent it from updating, of course disabling wi-fi.
I'm concerned where the status is now on what to use and how to go about properly using it? The last time I've tried this method, I bricked my tablet. Yes, I tried rolling back a 5.3.2.0 tablet to 5.1 and it got hard bricked. So, lesson learned there as to what no to do.
I'd like to avoid the same fate with this one. I'm thinking I'd like to have CyanogenMod on it or perhaps Kingroot. Something where I don't have to tolerate Amazon's horrendous ads, it's bad appstore and it's horrible Silk browser. Anything would do, really.
I've gotten RootJunky's tool to flash the tablet for either of the options above. I know how to go about it's process, but I'd like to know what I can get specifically with 5.3.1.0.

FireOS 5.3.1.0 is rootable which, with the proper advance preparation, permits flashing any custom ROM for this device. At present only one is actively/fully supported: Fire Nexus. CyanogenMod 12.1 (CM 12.1) has been discontinued. Keep reading through the forums to get an idea what needs to be done. Might start with the index: https://forum.xda-developers.com/amazon-fire/general/index-amazon-fire-2015-t3210485
I have a kindle Fire 7" 5th gen, running FireOS 5.3.2.1. I have never connected it to the internet so it has never had a chance to auto-update. In an ideal world, I would like to flash it with an Android ROM, but as an intermediate prize I would be ok with being able to install Android apps using the play store (this seems to be possible?) and to remove their bloatware (not sure about this).
There are a ton of posts about this but none seem to be recent or reliable. Many were started in like 2013. Can someone who knows about things help me out by telling me about the current situation? Maybe even point me to a guide that will help me to avoid making a brick?
Any help appreciated.
Thanks
