Differences between models of Note 9. - Samsung Galaxy Note 9 Questions & Answers

Most of us have known for some time that China and the USA get the much faster better designed Snap Dragon vs the slower junk Exynos that gets dumped on the Indian market.
This we knew. But as I am studying the circuits this is not the only difference.
Anybody collected info in more detail on the differences ?.
For example an article pointing out all the differences ?.
Right now reading the Wiki article on both phones and even that does not go into the differences in detail.
FYI I just discovered that the Audio quality output also differs. As in the Audio Dac used differs between models.

I'm not so sure that sound is going to be different. This may be about software settings. Try this: Download and activate the Sound Assistant (free from Galaxy Store), as well as going to Sounds and Vibration > Sound Quality and Effects > Dolby Atmos and making sure that is enabled. It can make the difference between mono and stereo on these phones, among other things. Sound Assistant gives a number of additional fine tuning settings, including there being more gradation on the volume.

Thanks but that was one of the first things I tried.
I made the mistake or ordering the wrong audio IC that is how I discovered that the DACs used differ.
Then I went looking for differences and found no info. Hence the post.

[Q] S4 active & Bluetooth APt-x

I recently purchase the At&t S4 active and a pairs of Sennheiser MM-550X,
Those of you who don't know apt-x is codec for bluetooth to keep the sound quality as the original (really close to) source sound files,
in compare to normal Bluetooth which downgrade sound quality to near 120Kbps.
SGS4 active supposed to support this but on the web there's so little information about it,
So.. I want to know how can i confirm Mine got the Apt-x? from what I heard some android version Not support this..
Does Acid audio engine support this?
Is anyone tried?
Thanks!
Questions and help issues go in Q&A and Help sections
Thread moved
Thanks
FNM
Also interested, how to make sure that APT-X is working on new 4.4 Kitkat stock ROM? Thx!
Sorry for bumping this thread.
I would also like to know if there is a possible way of seeing if APT-x is active.
From my experience, I don't seem to hear any difference in quality between my S4 and iPad, but the iPad does not support APT-x.
The quality sounds terrible compared to a wired connection, loosing fine detail present in a 320kbps track. It also sounds compressed as well.

How is the sound recording quality?

Hello guys!
I want to buy this phone but the sound recording quality is importante for me. I´ll record meetings and, sometimes, from about 3 or 4 meters...
Can anyone say if the sound recording quality is good? My question is becuase it is waterproof... maybe it will make the recording quality below average?
Thanks!

It really depends.
I've seen some people say that it was bad (according to their opinion)
But I've also seen that said there was nothing wrong with it.
The Z3C has 3 recording settings (in terms of sound)
Silent, normal, concert (something like that) so I guess you'll have to play around with those to see which fits the occasion best.
Here are 2 random videos I found, And in my opinion the sound isn't bad. Based on my own experience it's not bad either, but I'm not you, you need to judge it by yourself.
I'd say go to a store if possible and just record some stuff. (Please note that the Z3C doesn't come with a build in sound recorder app so you'll need to get one from Play)

My experience so far is based on two scenarios.. Concert and alarm test messages. Both are absolutely great in quality! Using sonys audio recorder to even record stereo audio.
Sent with my Sony Xperia Z3 Compact with Tapatalk Pro
I have not done extensive testing regarding sound, yet, but from what I have done I am impressed with the default sound. It has a wide sound stage, but very clear. However, I have recently purchased Sony's STM10U Stereo Microphone which works on the Z3 devices. There is also Sony's audio recorder app that works with this mic to download.
It really adds a studio type control, blocking out all external sounds, providing a more focused sound. Great for concerts. Comes with a wind cover which is handy for blustery days. This way, I have all my sound options covered.

If you record regularly I'd suggest investing in a decent mini microphone that plugs into the headphone jack. I find the built in mic no better or worse than other phones I've had, but have not done any detailed comparison.
I have found the sound quality absolutely perfect with the Z3C!!!
I play in a band and have always been jealous of how well my friends iPhones have been able to record our band practices. My z3 compact is loads, loads better than my galaxy nexus or HTC hd2 but still not as even good as the iPhone 4 I'm afraid when it comes to recording at very loud volumes.
I'm also using the Sony audio recorder. It works well but the files are massive and can only be saved on internal memory.

Is there any way to improve or enhance the Audio output quality on op3t on OOS 4.1.7

I am using OP 3T , everything is going well but I can't be satisfied with it's Audio output quality via 3.5 mm jack. Using Remax earphones witch giving me far better sound quality with other phones, In OP3T the sounds are little bit messedup, background noise, lack of dynamic range, less clearity in sound....these are very much annoying. I can't take it any more.... please anyone help to get ride of this problem. what the reason can be ? And how to fix this ? what are possibilities with the Snapdragon 821 chip.... please help me out

USB type C headphones

Hi All,
Did anyone use USB type C headphone with the 5T? I have just bought a pair of xiaomi ANC headphones and is really disappointed with the sound quality.
Are there any ways to improve the sound quality you might be aware of?
Thanks!

I use Spotify all the time also but to experience to true potential of your headphones, you must try Poweramp once ( you might get hooked as well) just for the sake of its unmatched Eq presets.
As for the arise, you can look up for the guides to install Viper4Android on XDA ( will take a simple search). You'll be needing root access (Magisk has some v4a modules as well) though.
Caution: stepping into the world of v4a is big step. No coming back from there.?

Just wondering what Poweramp and Arise does to improve the SQ of the above mentioned IEM. I own a Xiaomi Pro HD and found the bass and vocals to be lacking compared to Apple Earpods.

If you can experiment enough with Poweramp's (alpha build) Eq presets ( I prefer "speaker ( loud) with bass and treble variable according to the song I'm listening to), you can pretty much get satisfied with any earphones above $10 price tag. The cheapest iem I can find in my drawer from a whole bunch of earbuds is the KZ-ate which can easily outperform this Overpriced AKG earbuds.
Coming to the V4A, it takes some time to get it working on your smartphone if you're dealing with it for the first time but if you can get it running, you can expect a SQ bump of at least 5x of Poweramp's eq.
Judging by the quality of one of my own xiaomi's basic earbuds, I hope the pro HD ones won't be really bad.
Is it safe to assume USB C headphones will work on the OP5T regardless of OS/ROM? I don't want to purchase a pair only to find out they won't work with OmniROM.

Truer words have never been spoken. Once I experienced the awesomeness that is V4A I'll never again purchase a phone that cannot be rooted. I only wish I would have found out about it sooner:laugh:
If you are running magisk it takes no time at all to get it processing for YouTube, Pandora, etc., just install the module and reboot. If you are use Poweramp be sure to go-to settings>audio>advanced tweaks and uncheck direct volume control to get viper processing.

LG Quad DAC Tips, Tricks, Etc...

Howdy All,
For those who have had a LG V device in the past you'all know what's coming - how do we trick the quad DAC into high impedance mode (HIM) or AUX mode?
For those who don't know here's a little background. The previous LG V series phones have had a very nice DAC and AMP setup which can almost meet the standards of audiophile quality. The thing was that in the later phones (V20 and V30 AFAIR) the software was designed to "smart switch" which mode the AMP was in. HIM and AUX mode settings had the loudest volumes and was corresponding to the headphone impedance value. The normal setting had the lowest volume designed for low impedance IEMs. Note that the AMP setting doesn't really have a bearing on sound QUALITY, just sound VOLUME. I'm guessing but the reasoning for this is to prevent blown IEMs and blown eardrums. I'm going to find the link for the old V30 quad DAC thread and some stuff tried and what worked in order to activate AUX mode and/or HIM. BTW having ROOT on the phone allows for adjusting this setting as needed, which is why I went with the unlocked version this time around. My pair of MrSpeakers Aeon Flows have low impedance but need power in order to drive properly and the AMP in the V series phones would only trigger normal impedance mode.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/help/modes-quad-dac-t3690567
So that brings us to the V40. Does it have a quad DAC? Yes it does. Does it have a smart switching AMP? So far my indications are yes it does. Do the old tricks from the V30 days work on the V40? I don't think that they do. I have multiple extension cables, which I use for triggering the AUX mode as well as an impedance adapter (50ohms I think). The old methods of using the extension cable, the adapter, and both don't seem to have an effect on the AMP setting. My Sony MDR-1As are much louder than my Aeon Flows...bummer for me.
UPDATE - Upon further testing with the help of this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.apptrio.hi_fi_status I was able to trigger the AUX AMP mode and it kicked up the volume on my Sony's quite a bit! Unfortunately when I triggered HIM the volume of the sound did not change from the normal mode. Basically what I did was take a 2ft 3.5mm cable extension (male on one side female on the other) and plug it in WITHOUT THE HEADPHONE CABLE ATTACHED. Once the HIFI status app displayed AUX mode I then plugged in my HPs and BOOM, here comes the volume!
Anyways if you have anything to add or have any questions feel free to hit us up. When root is available I'll also make updates to this thread if need be.
Have a good one :highfive:
Is that why the volume is stuck at 75?

If you have your volume go up to 75 and it doesn't blow out your ears then it is due to the AMP being in normal mode.
I just say one thing:
Neutron player!

Have you tried the mobile version of foobar2000? As it's the preferred app for FLAC files and such on the PC, I imagine the mobile version is quite good as well. I wonder how it compares to Neutron Player. I definitely will give both a shot and compare.
On the note of music players, despite making fun of it (it's quite easy to do) and being certain it would fail, I recently converted to Tidal. The quality is really astounding, and the music library is almost as complete as Spotify/etc. Additionally, some albums are available as "masters" that are actually encoded with MQA!
Your right about Tidal. It sounds awesome. The price difference isn't worth it though.
Treesap! I'm comparing those players right now! I'm listening to metal (Tesseract), jazz (Yellowjackets), all flac, and so far I like both foobar2000 and Neutron. The built in player is not satisfying me yet, except for mp3 (I See Stars - Treehouse). Does anyone know if it's necessary to disable the built in effects to make other players work independently? That's what I did with v20. Just remember how different expectations and taste we all have in regards to music/sound
And maybe I should add that I'm just a regular user (with high demand on sound quality), who can't afford too fancy earbuds or extras right now. Any advice regarding good quality sound (budget price) earbuds would be very appreciated
Went back to Poweramp (poweramp-alpha-build-705) and so far it's the best one for me.

Well I'm sure there's some tech guys here who can give us the correct details, but for me the answer is yes! After tuning it up for my ears, the Poweramp does it in a perfect way. If I play mp3 or flac it's giving me perfect sound all over, compared to the lg app were I had to tune it up for individual files.
have any of you engaged the DAC for streaming, for Google music in particular?
there was mention by some last year that one DAC player and an add-on app could do that for Google music. i just don't keep much on my phone and streaming is my way, so I'm still looking at taking advantage where i can. I'm running V4A on a rooted V30 now and looking at the V40's development.

Poweramp improving and improving
(Poweramp-v3-build-805-uni)
I realize there probably isn't much benefit from forcing high impedance but I do want to do some testing with it among other things so I'm curious has anyone figured out any tricks to forcing it with an extension cable or anything of the sorts. I'm still trying to find ways and it looks like similar ways done to the v30 isn't working the same way for our v40's

Hope the following can help, and also, please correct me anyone, if my way of thinking here is some way wrong or misleading.
A assume you've already taken part of the Poweramp forum?! It's the only way to get the hi-res add-ons. And you obviously have to log in to be able to download.
I'm not 100% sure about how poweramp and the built in eq interacts, but after fiddling for a bit, it seams like what I'm sharing here works best when it comes to volume and sound. Have in mind our individual reference of sound and of course, what kind of earphones/buds you have (this is based on flac files).
You can see I've put replay gain on max in Poweramp settings. You can easily change RG in the eq later to fit individual album.
If anyone else have suggestions, please don't be shy

Speaking of the DAC, does anyone know if the V40 has support for MQA? The V30 has it, and they recently added support for it to the Essential PH-1, but no mention of it for the V40, just "high quality Quad DAC". I suspect that it does, because they probably used the same chip for the V40, but I see no mention of it anywhere, so far.
