Hi guys,
Im new here and fairly new to Android coming from the iPhone (I know....what was I thinking with apple?)..
I have the first HTC One for Verizon, I love this phone and generally don't have any problems with it. I have been testing out ROMs and have been pretty successful with them but the only problem I have is after steady use, maybe 15-20 minutes the phone gets hot. (not burning my hand hot..) But just out of concern for the phone, is this normal or is it damaging to the phone? I'd like to try to make this last the 2 year contract I just bought.
- Thanks in advance

should be OK, the cover acts as heat sink, that's why you can feel the heat more than other phones. afaik, the max HTC specification temperature is 55C.
when the phone goes beyond specification temperature (eg using navigation in the car in sunlight while charging) the LED will start blinking red, and charging will be disabled to prevent damage.
EDIT: you could install an app to monitor temperature; GSAM can monitor batter & temperature
and if you use a lot of apps that use high cpu, you can think about installing a custom kernel with more "aggressive" thermal options

Oh thats good to know. Thank you for the reply. Brand new phone, I probably get a little paranoid but better safe then sorry. I will look into a custom kernel if I start to see that flashing red from overheating. Thanks again..

I've never had any problems. When running CPU intensive apps, my battery goes up to 45C but not more.
The hottest I've noticed it was using navigation in the car (but didn't check temperature as I was driving), but I almost never use that anyway.

Hahaha, up here in NYC that doesn't sound like such a bad idea. If I wasn't scared of blowing up my phone I'd attempt overclocking for extra heat.

I've found in the ROM I am running an app called Trickster MOD which displays all the temps and clock speeds. Staying steady around 40-45c depending on what I am doing. More toward 45c when playing games. I guess as someone said before, because of the metal casing you can feel the heat coming from the device. Thank you for your feedback everyone.

LOL on the heating part :silly:
but sounds about right on the temperature, my phone also stays between 40 to 45C when using games or graphic/cpu intensive programs; i've had it since about march or april, and no adverse effects (so far?)
i almost never use navigation, but if you want to test temperature, try it, it REALLY heats up.

I use the Google Maps Navigation often cause I do alot of walking around NYC and I often get lost in my own city lol. Ive actually never noticed any feeling of heat higher then any other app. Then again I use it for short term walking, usually 20-30 minutes at most.

Some phones are great to take camping because if you play Asphalt 8 long enough, the back warms up to the ideal temperature that can bake bread. Rate this thread to express the extent to which the LG Q6 stays cool under extended heavy use. A higher rating indicates that even when playing strenuous games for long periods of time, the phone doesn't get uncomfortably warm.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
heating issue with regular usage
I am having heating issue with just regular usage like camera and WhatsApp video call. The frame near volume buttons gets really hot.
Let me know if other are not facing that same issue then I will initiate a replace.

I am also facing same heating issue with normal/basic usage. Its very irritating. I read some of the reviews on amazon site. I assume, Not all Q6 users are facing this excessive heating issue.. so confused, what to do... not sure if i should return it and ask for replacement? any suggestions?
There is a heating near the volume button. I guess its normal. May be a update can help.
Hope for an update soon

Misleading facts LG Q6
LG Q6 Two misleading points advertised:
1) The Processor stated on the LG website and Amazon.in is Snapdragon 435 but the phone has an older Snapdragon 430.
2) The phone is advertised as having a full metal body but the back panel is plastic.

You shouldn't believe the CPU Z app it will tell you 430 instead use CPU X it shows you Qualcomm MSM8940 which actually is the 435 we are talking about.
Why would a company mislead the customer by telling the wrong CPU it is really easy to find it out. Also LG is a reputed brand. On the other hand don't convey wrong info to people do some research then speak up.

Actually I pretty well knew that it doesn't have a metallic body I didn't care but was happy to know that the edges are metallic.
Its not a heating issue, the processor is in the left side, near the volume, its metal, i use the camera and feel the heat, but my phone says its only 36 degrees, not alarming though, its normal.
I have seen users complaining about over-heating of the phone. The volume side of the metal frame does get warm at times but nothing alarming. I am a moderate user. I don't play games but do a lot of other apps, do a lot of browsing and articles reading through browser. I am really very satisfied with this device and its performance. SD435 can only take so much. Heavy users, in my opinion shouldn't buy phones with SD400 series. You know what you are buying. So, don't complain. This is a perfect phone for everyday essentials.
Dont update software , my phone wasnt heating on normal usage but now its warm all the time and battery bakup reduces by 20%
Heating near volume keys
My phone is heating near volume keys badly, it's a faulty device if they have placed the processor near it! I just bought it on 23rd September in an Amazon Sale replacing my old ****ty device for 3k . But I guess they are clearing out the faulty versions in these sales!

This is true.. Battery backup after update is really bad.. Doesn't last even a day..
Its normal mine does not heat
Mine does heat up a little along the sim slot side. But only when running graphic intensive apps. Otherwise, heat is normal.
Mine is good, it doesn't heat up very much even playing games, just feel a little bit warm.
I think the heating issue is more when using mobile data services. And is very high when the signal strength is low.
Gets heated up near the volume buttons.
Its a heater
U do not need room heater in winters
I m selling it becoz its summer
Bought 2 days ago and regretting a lot
A simple question to those who already brought Rog Phone 2 (8 or 12Gb RAM version)
Would you buy it again, if you could go back? And why, if yes or if not?
Currently own the Tencent model and waiting on Asus to release the Global Ultimate Edition. So yes!
If it supported VoLTE and VoWIFI in the USA, yes. They got everything else damned near perfect. The egonomics - important for a device you're using to game! - are dead spot on. It is amazing to me that it's such a large device and yet the balance is perfect. It actually feels lighter in the hand than other phones that are lighter, but badly balanced, as a result.

The Red Magic 3 seems to cover a lot of the bands we need, other than 71:
FDD-LTE: Band 1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/20/25/26/28/30/66
TDD-LTE: Band 34/38/39/40/41
TD-SCDMA: Band 34/39
WCDMA(WCDMA):Band 1/2/4/5/8/9/19
CDMA: BC0/BC1 GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
Bluetooth: Bluetooth 5.0
Positioning: GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo
8gb ram Tencent version, yes I would buy it again. The 120hz screen and battery life have RUINED me.

I wouldn't consider it. The speakers on it can't compare to the ROG 2, battery life, the ROG 2 is a better looking device and has better led and logo notifications. Also i Personally like ASUS software customization especially mobile Manger, Data manager, call recording,.... Because of their customizations I don't feel the need to root the device.
Finally what I dislike about Nubia is that the company is coming out with a lot of iterations in a small time frame( Like hot cakes) which devalues the previous generation. I wouldn't be surprised if Red Magic 4 is announced in 3 months.

YESSSS!!! Had the ZU680kl but damaged it
Probably not because of 128gb storage and it's just too big. Don't suppose Rog 3 will be getting smaller.
Not too big for me. I had a mi max 3 before which is a 6.9 inch behemoth.
Would buy again no doubt. Nice screen, good battery life, loud speakers, headphone jack, in game macros, split screen 2 game capability, RGB front LED, clean UI, great cooling and very fast performance. Only thing I wish ROG 3 will have is wireless charging and centred bottom charging port then it will be perfect.
Absolutely yes! I have the Tencent 8gb/128gb version with worldwide ROM and love it! Been using it for a few weeks now. Even with it's few flaws (can't get ota updates, missing themes, missing a few LTE bands used in the US) I'm still extremely satisfied with it.

Top left is where your heat vent is. By design, the casing of the phone quickly heats up as it dissipates heat from the internals.
A good measure of how hot the internals are, is to check the battery temperature, you can see it if you swipe in from left when gaming. As long as your battery is below 50 celsius, you're all good, and the phone is working as intended.
Hey guys. I've looked at the forums for the ROG 2 and honestly I'm torn between getting the ROG2 or the OnePlus 7T now...the ROG2 clearly has some software issues where the phone turns off by itself and the unsupported B20 band (800Mhz) for 4G coverage just screams future unpredicted problems to me. What would you guys say? Should I just save myself the troubles and go for the 7T? Are you guys satisfied with your ROG2 phones or should I go for the safer alternative, the OnePlus 7T?

I have zero software issues, my phone never turns off and if I don't play games it will last 3 days.
What do you need? A real gaming phone with average camera and killer everything else but no real dev support or a mainstream like any other phone with great dev support and very good all around?
I wouldn't trade Rog for one plus, I came from one plus. It's all about your personal needs.

I'm just looking for a phone with a bigger battery and a 120hz display. I'm coming from a Xiaomi Mi 9T. I've seen the S20 in real life and the 120Hz display just blew me away. Kinda hard to stick with 60Hz now. I don't really care that much for games or for the support, I just want the phone to work good overall. I don't make that many pictures, but I'm sure the ones I would take would be more than good enough. The only thing I worry about now is the cellular support as my carriers support only 800Mhz band and 1800Mhz band. The phone however does not support 800Mhz or B20. I've got an option to buy an unused global edition ROG2 for just 520 euros so I think it's worth it.

Coming from a OnePlus 7 pro. That device had a terrible camera. Even OnePlus admitted that they are not satisfied with the camera performance..
I was trying to decide between the 7T and ROG 2 and went with ROG 2. Been using it for the past two months. One of the biggest issues I face is with the display, and had I known this before buying I wouldn't have picked this. It made me unable to watch my shows before sleeping, but hopefully this'll get fixed with Android 10.
Other problems include extremely slow software support (and with a high chance of 10 being the last version), minimal customisation options, and the weight. The weight becomes really noticeable and starts hurting your arms if you're trying to use the phone while lying on the back (so another stab at my shows, though I hope it'll buff me up xD)
Edit: Also, I can't figure out why there's zero dev support (no custom ROMs)... I don't plan on rooting my phone or swapping ROMs yet, but I'd like to have the option to do so. Surprised that there isn't one right now.
Another Edit: Oh, and I absolutely can't figure out the hype with 120Hz... I tried it for a couple days, but found it hardly worth anything, especially with the phone incapable of putting out 120 fps on most proper games, the the only real benefit can be observed during scrolling at which point it becomes pointless, so I just turned it off for better battery/performance.
I just use 90Hz most of the time to get most of the benefits without the problems.
B20 is available if you get the 12GB model. There are no issues with it suddenly turning off.
Not a perfect phone but does everything that I want of it.

Everyone is entitled to their opinions, but I completely disagree, especially about 120 fps. I've noticed absolutely no difference in battery life by using 120 FPS vs 60 fps (I regularly get 11 to 13 hours of screen on time with general use on 120 fps) and now that I've used 120 fps on a phone I find 60 fps atrociously slow/laggy/choppy, especially during scrolling. It makes any device using 60fps feel horrible now. 120 fps is a massive improvement. Yes I'll agree not many games support 120 fps on Android yet, but the ones that do are so smooth.

Well, the games I play hardly hit 60 fps at high settings at which point they start guzzling the battery and heat up the phone. As for the scrolling (as I've already mentioned), agreed, but I'm not in the habit of constantly scrolling at high speeds.
And to note, frame rate and refresh rate are different things. Frame rate is on the software front and refresh rate is on the hardware front. Both need to match for the best experience. You can use game genie to see the frame rate you're actually getting.

If only we get a good custom kernel for Android 10. It should increase the performance to close the gap with SD865, i get around 516k in antutu, and I've seen the xaiomi mi 10 getting around 537k in a YouTube review. There's a chance to overclock this device because it has good cooling compared to my previous OnePlus 7 pro.
Anyways, custom roms are usually very buggy and stock rom isn't lacking in any way, it has everything you'll find in any custom rom, plus some features that might not fully work on custom roms.
And btw, i do not have that screen issue that you've mentioned above.. mine is 12/512 elite version.
It's the overall best android phone I've used so far, and I've been using it since October. Battery life is awesome ? even with x mode and 120hz both on all the time.

I'll be getting the 8gb 128gb global edition and hopefully it's not defect in any way! Should be better than my Xiaomi Mi 9T in any case lmao.
I have both rog 2 and 1+ 7T pro 5G.
I've used the 1+ for maybe a few hours total. Screen/battery life/ user experience feels better on my rog
