How to Flashing stock non carrier firmware with TWRP - LG V40 Questions & Answers

Hello guys, I currently AT&T LMV405UA0o I bought it not knowing that I cannot update it to any new android version without a sim card, I do not live in the us.
Now I want to install any stock firmware without the carrier blot ware and update it to android 10.
Now what I did is try cross flashing that did not work because of the crossdll error att_us > any other firmware, I tried using lgup_cmd It did not recognize any firmware I tried to flash so I give up on that.
I tried to unlock the bootloader with lg v35 bootloader, it worked now my bootloader is unlocked I erased my laf_a after taking a backup and now I have access to fast boot.
I will try to install twrp soon it should be easy the hard part is done. my question is how to install the unlocked stock firmware for my current device without the at&t stuff its already sim unlocked.
What firmware should I use, should I also flash magisc (I don’t really care about root), what boot section should I use I don’t wanna screw anything. I’m current on android 9 and it boots normally. Can u guys link me to guide for my issue.
Thanks in advance

You can't install stock firmware with twrp. Unless someone converts the KDZ firmware to a twrp zip format, then it's not doable.
It *sounds* like you tried to use the 1.16 dll of lgup to crossflash, but the one that works is 1.14 dll for crossflash. After crossflashing, and if you need to refurbish the newer kdz, then use 1.16 for that.

can u please let me know which guide i should use and what firmware to download if possible. the best case scenario for me is to remove the at&t rom completely.

I'd suggest reading 2 guides, one for the V40 and one for the V35.
Both of those threads explain crossflashing, the V40 is more specific, but the V35 one has the basics. I'd recommend reading both threads in their entirety, most questions / comments you can gloss over, but some of them will be about your specific question, and many times you'll find answers there and know what to do when / if you happen upon the same problem.
What firmware? Well the latest 'open' version for wherever your region is of course. In the US that would be the V405QA720e_01_NAO_US_OP_1230.kdz - that's still Pie, but Q should be available soon. I'd suggest go slow with the process, be sure of what you're doing, as best as possible.
good luck

[Q] Unrooting my HTC One

Hi Guys, I just got the phone (international/ non-carrier version) yesterday. Updated it to 4.3, and rooted it, following the guide from HTCOneRoot.com.
Everything is fine and dandy, as when I rooted my previous phone. But in my sheer eagerness, I didn't find out that the 4.4 was available also.
I now have a rooted phone, and I can't update it, as it goes directly to TWRP recovery when I try to install. I guess this is what it's supposed to do?
From what I can read you cannot install OTA when you have rooted your phone.
So I tried looking up how to unroot it. But this seems like a rather difficult project, and I am not sure I understand. From what I read I need to download a RUU, to install a stock rom(?) and I tried looking up this, but there are tons to select from, and I haven't the slightest clue which matches my phone. Can anyone be of assistance, as to how I can revert my root and update to 4.4, so I can root my phone with the latest android, instead? I'm not really interested in getting a custom rom on my phone.
Guess I should've read more about rooting before doing it, as I'm kind of a novice, but I'm more a trial and error kinda guy .
Thanks.
Edit: Or should I just find a custom "stock" KitKat ROM, and install that, from my current position? Is that even possible?
Sort of an answer

Hey man, so to find the right ruu go here htcdev webiste, go under kernel source code and then choose device as the one and then choose carrier and download one of the matching ones.
For the other stuff I'm in the same boat as you. Just waiting for answers...I would try looking at youtube and type how to unbrick htc one and try those first. Didn't work for me but might for you.

Thanks. I'll look that up.
I am not bricked, as the situation is now. I just have a rooted phone, working with 4.3. And I want to upgrade to 4.4.
So I guess I have to choose HTC as carrier? I live in Denmark and am unsure whether to choose EU or EU NFC as region? Also what kernel version do I want to download? I am somewhat unsure what to do next.

Do a fastboot getvar all, and choose the RUU that matches your MID and your CID
I've only rooted my phone so far. From what I understand I can just install a "custom 4.4" from this point, right?

Quick noob question on RUUexe

Hey guy
So i need to update firmware currently on 1.32.531.33 on my t mobile htc one m9 s-on. I was gonna use ruu.exe from herehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/tmobile-one-m9/general/please-read-rooting-using-twrp-t3069022. To my understading this will unroot and flash stock rom and i will be able update via OTA. Am I suppose to use the 1.32.531.33exe or 2.7.531.6exe(since on trying to update it)? Do I need to be s-off to use? Will this relock my bootloader? Is there any other changes in adb I need to make. Anything else I should be on the lookout for? Planning on rerooting after update. I couldnt find a guide with this info so any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

If you are looking to upgrade to the latest 2.11.531.19, you can get the RUU here.
You do not need to S-Off unless you plan on flashing older or intl firmware, Ruu will not relock the bootloader.
keep in mind, running RUU will completely wipe the phone, so Backup.
I would
1. Run latest RUU let it boot and set up.
2. Reboot to bootloader, flash Twrp (fastboot flash recovery twrp-2.8.7.0-hima.img)
3. Reboot to recovery and flash SuperSU here.
Unless you are going to flash roms then you only need to flash the firmware and twrp and rom
You can get the firmware in my thread here
Hope this helps

Thanks! I took a chance yesterday and ran the 1.32.531.33.exe to play it safe and updated via OTA to 2.7.531.6. But for future reference is it's okay to run RUUs that are above current firmware or do you have to use the one your current firmware matches (for instance running 2.7.531.6.exe when the device firmware is on 1.32.531.33). Also will roms running on older firmware work if device firmware is on 2.11.531.19?

They might, depends the roms base.
Hey guys,
I just got HTC ONE M9 T-Mobile version. I'm trying to unlock it. Saw a bunch of stuff online and keep trying everything what is out there. Tried to unlock it from htcdev but it says token is too long. I copied it multiple times the way it was described, still nothing happened. Copied it piece by piece, typed it... nothing worked same thing. Questions is this, I can't get it to root, unlock bootloader, s-off or any of that so what's going to happen if I install a RUU which is rooted so at least I'll have a start cause now I can't do ANYTHING. Whatever ideas you have, please let me know.
I tried htcdev, sunshine, kingroot, kingoroot, supersu, root apps.... nothing. The tmobile unlock app, no chance... Thanks

I'm still an amateur myself but here is my understanding and recommendations.
RUU will update firmware and flash stock rom basically bringing you back to square one. You should be able to use it with a locked bootloader. If you can't do anything with the phone I would suggest to to use RUU dot exe of the latest firmware and update all OTAs. I used a video guide on youtube by "sakitech" when I rooted mine. Just search "root HTC One m9" it should be the first link. Make sure you're copying no more no less than your token ID. Hope this helps
You're way ahead of yourself, RUU is not rooted. It's a completely stock system. Like if you were to buy a brand new phone. It will wipe your phone completely too, nothing on sdcard.

Hey guys,
Thank you very much for responding.
So what would be the best thing for me to do?

Possible door to a future of custom roms ???

Surfing the internet I found this :L
https://www.androidexplained.com/lg-g6-fastboot-mode/
If it is true that the T-Mobile versions are unlocked. Is there any way to develop based on this variant?
For example, is it possible to unlock the bootloader by installing the rom of t-mobile, and from there to put twrp?
Another question
When I dedicate myself to flash oreo through LGUP I realized that there was everything about rom.
Is it possible to install twrp using LGUP repackaging the kdz with a custom recovery ??
I'm sorry if the section is wrong. XDA will not let me put on roms
Most likely not, it verifies integrity on boot and it would probably fail requiring another flash with verified OS

Re-Lock Stock Bootloader on Sprint Oreo?

I've been trying to figure out if it's possible to Re-Lock the Bootloader on a stock rom and bootloader for a sprint unlocked phone running Android 8. I couldn't find anything in the forums. Anyone have an idea?

If you can get a hold of your v40's stock KDZ and do a refurbish flash of that KDZ in LGUP with the correct DLL's applied to LGUP's common folder so it reads your phone as connected it should wipe any modifications and reflash the stock locked bootloader. But of course will also wipe ur rom and user data. The guides on how to do this are here in the forum.

Gotcha, thanks for the info. I think that's where I'm at, I'm unable to find a KDZ for sprint.

Does anyone know where to find specific root / twrp guide for lg v40 sprint crossflashed to korean android 10?

Hello to eveyone.
I have been searching the forum for a spefic guide to:
Unlock bootloader
install TWRP
flash magisk
To my beloved lg v40 from Sprint that I sucessfully crossflashed to the Korean firmware that has android 10.
Now my phone's information is the following:
Software version: V409NUA30b
Model number: LM-V409NUA (used to be V405UA)
Again, im running android 10. I just want to root it so I can control the processor to get a better performance in gaming (dolphin emulator).
Thanks in advance for any help...

Hi man, thanks for your quick answer. Sorry that I posted my question in the wrong section. I wasn't sure if it had to be posted here or in Q&A, Ur right! I just picked the wrong option.
Yes! My phone has the software version V409NUA30b, it is the latest I could find when I decided to flash it to my phone I was happy with it until I found out that somehow the phone limits the processor's performance when it gets to certain temperature specifically when I use dolphin or cirtra emulators, tha's why i want to root it. But it seems It cannot be done unless you install TWRP, which also needs to have the bootloader unlocked.
I believe I won't get any OTA updates due to crossflashing and also because I am based in the republic of Panama.
I read the thread you are refering to and I saw that the files given to use QFIL are for Oreo and also the author suggested that they are not supposed to work with Pie, even though some people has been able to use them.
That is why I thought that the guide did no apply to my phone.
I am going to follow your advice and post this question in the right place.
If you know anything else, please do not hesitate in letting me know.
thanks again!

So, first, the guide you're referring to does have a few Pie files attached to it, but that's because the author was on Pie when he wrote it. The procedure he describes works for all versions of android, including Q.
So it certainly does apply, just be sure to save off your own abl and laf partitions prior to writing over them or erasing them. And also your boot partition, and for good measure, save ftm, fsg, modem, modemst1 and modemst2, they contain specific imei and s/n info for your specific / individual phone.
Also, there will never again be updates, lg is out of phone business, so forget that
check this thread for some additional info and files you will need. I'd suggest use lgup to go to 30f, that way you'll at least have the last security patch available.
cheers

Thanks again man.
So i was able to update to V4009NUA30f. Thank you for letting me know there was a new version.
I followed the process to unlock the bootloader but somehow I am unable to get into bootloader / fastboot mode. When I flash the v35eng.img to the abl_a it seems to be ok according to Qfill. But my bootloader does not seem to exist in the phone.
I tried to boot the phone into bootloader using adb reboot bootloader but it only restarts the phone.
Do you have an idea what could be wrong?
Thanks!

yes, yer flashing it to the inactive slot. The thing about the v35 eng abl, when you have it flashed (to the correct slot), your phone won't boot. It will only be able to go to fastboot.
In your case, the phone is booting, so you have to be flashing v35 eng abl to the wrong slot. It's the other one that's active.

OK! So I guess we are talking about the abl_b, right!?
Also, I saw in the other link you sent me the twrp+boot image. Once I unlock the bootloader and flash my back up abl file, then I would have to flash it (the twrp+boot) to the abl_b slot again right!?

No no no. You never flash an image to an incorrect partition. Abl partitions get abl images, boot partitions get boot images. Don't mix them up!
