Because these type of things takes time for talented coders to make them, and you have no rights to hassel them to expedite the development. Custom ROMs also requires an unlocked bootloader. Until Moto can do something about it, ROM developments are significantly hampered.

Easy, killa! No one was hassling anyone. Anyhow, the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and making noise for something is not hassling. Hassling would be calling them at home or spamming their inbox.
just asking because it seems the video ability has been changed with the new gb version with netflix. Apparently that was fixed but now i cant get my vulkano streaming to work. an older rom would allow me to use this application as it has worked on previous roms. thanks for the replies.
Just wanna introduce myself. I'm Matt, and I just picked up my G-Flex yesterday at T-Mobile. This is my first LG but not my first android. I've been rooting, unlocking, modding, theming, bricking, and recovering androids since the DROID 2 days. I'm not claiming to be a dev, but I do know my way around android/ Linux. I am a crack flashing android whore. I was on the RAZR maxx when it came with Gingerbread 2.3.4 and stuck with it through JB 4.1. Moved on to the RAZR HD MAXX on ICS 4.0.4 and followed a couple of the best devs Hashcode and Dan Rosenberg. Was one of the first to profit from Dan's RAZR HD MAXX bootloader exploit. Big props to the first ever to crack a Motorola bootloader.
Shortly after I moved on to the Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337. I can't count the soft bricks I recovered from before Loki and Odin files where released. Bad thing was my phone being rooted was able to be my hot spot, so when bricked I had no way to look up or ask questions. But I some how through trial and error recovered.
I now have the G-Flex on T-Mobile and within a few hours of purchase I'm rooted thanks to the IoRoot method. Thanks to the cat that posted the thread on here for that one in this same General Forum section. And needless to say I've already bricked it twice tonight. Just recovered it and got booted back up and set up.
With all that said, I'm not afraid of testing or helping with any development. I'm not afraid of brick, cuz I'm sure with all the talented devs on xda and myself, I will recover.
Luckily I made a back up of my build-props, system, and recovery so I was able to restore and push thru adb. Also wiped cache, dalvik, and system via adb. And reboot back to stock out of the box. But still a little puzzled how I kept root. Not complaining just puzzled.
If there is anyone working on a TWRP or CWM and Loki please message me and let me know what I can do to help. Like I said I'm not a dev and not claiming to be at all. I'm just brave. And mainly don't know where to start with porting a recovery much less Loki. But I can test and I take instruction well.
Hope I can help excited with the potential of the G-Flex....

nice post man:good:
I think we are pretty close to a recovery here, as a few folks are working on it.
Just like any new phone, it takes awhile for it to "catch on"; especially when all the "reviewers" have been slamming this phone for various reasons.
That makes people slow down jumping on it, but this phone is really fantastic, EPIC battery, great display, fastest phone out right now, and, the more that people ignore the idiot reviewers, and grab this thing, the sooner the development will take off.
The "problem" is that it's so awesum stock out of the box, that there isnt a sense of urgency to mod it! :victory:

I have no issues stock with root, i already debloated it and its running like a champ. I have the inverted mms app and am loving my phone right now.

I'm loving it too. I'm rooted still and have installed XPOSED installer with "App Settings", "Xtheme engine beta 5"( with HUE theme) , and "Xblast" I've got the same inverted MMS. And I used APP Settings mod to changed the system UI, stock browser, and MMS ppi to 260. And used HUE theme for that AOSP blue feel. Used xblast for nav bar color change. I like the blue / Vanilla look. I guess that's cuz I'm a product of ICS and motoblur. I'm user android tweaker to speed things up a bit and to smooth out scrolling. And Android Tuner Pro to trim on boot and manage things a little. Snap dragon's Battery guru has always made a substantial difference in battery life, but its still in initial learning so I can't give a review on it for the G-Flex. But can't wait to get custom recovery for it and feel lot more comfortable diving into the modding/theming a good bit more.
I've noticed the stock launcher and settings, well really most the stock lg apps are very similar to Touchwiz. I've already tried out the Google Now launcher and "OK Google" does work from the home screen. You don't have to hit or exe any part of Google to be able to take advantage of the hot word command.

Nice post @Matt. You probably seen me over @droidrzr.com , I ran the site for the first two years. I picked up the Gflex for ATT a few days ago.
TBH i love this phone. Yeah, its not running the latest version of Android and it has a few quirks however, the reviews from all over the net are killing this device imo.
Tethering, have you tried the good ole SQL hack just to see?
Sent from my LG-D950 using Tapatalk
fortunately, many of the smarter folks out there, that use XDA, dont pay alot of attention to what a bunch of DB reviewers think about phones..I had a one maxx b4 this, and it too was a great phone, slammed by most reviewers.
this phone is tons of fun, and we're pretty close to custom recovery, and a flood of roms.
Yes I have. The hack with SQL by going to settings storage/settings/ then change the authorization line (forgot exactly what it was called. I would know it if I saw it) from a 1 to a 0? Yeah I went looking for it. The way I understand it is they have figured out how to make that one obsolete. Seems as if its a little deeper into the their end of the monitoring rather than the phone just check account subscription. But I using the good ole "WIFI Tether beta 5" apk from a couple years ago and it seems to work. Hasn't added any more data to my WiFi tether usage. And yeah man I remember you. And droidrzr.com. those were the days when I was a crack flasher and barely knew my way around a RAZR. Don't know how many of those I bricked by not reading you couldn't install custom recovery except safe strap unless you had dev edition. Lmao. The RAZR forums always had cool devs willing to help and teach. I went to the GS4 and wow it was like a an ego fueled pissing contest between the biggest smart a$$e$ on the web. No one seemed to want to help just wanted to argue or try to point out that you don't know crap and they know it all. Glad to be out of their forums. And glad to see all these cats on the g flex forums have all been super cool and helpful.
They way it should be.

Hello everyone!
This is my first attempt at porting Android Wear to the Galaxy Gear! I am not an experienced dev and this was done fairly quickly using null_23 as a base and the Gear Live system dump. This is not at all ready and definitely not ready to flash. If you do decide to flash it, you risk bricking your device. That being said, I am requesting that a more experienced dev check over my work. If it seems in order, then it will be tested, until such a time, test at your own risk.
Link: http://d-h.st/go2
UPDATE: [ONLY FOR BRAVE PEOPLE INTERESTED IN TESTING]: Since I used null_ as the base, the addons are still available, but please do not flash any of them! And use the stock kernel for the time being!
UPDATE 2: It might be a good idea to try using the custom kernel we have available to us. If I can get an updater script from the gear live or other android wear device and look in to modifying the bootclasspath in the preexisting custom kernel that we have.
UPDATE 3: I have figured out how to modify the bootclasspath, will make the modification shortly. I just need an updater script for an android wear device and we may have a booting android wear port.
UPDATE 4: Link to Attempt 2 coming soon. This has a modified updater script that will hopefully set all permissions correctly. This may be all it needs to boot properly. If not, then I may still need some help getting the Gear Live Kernel to modify our kernel's bootclasspath. If anyone would like to flash this, same as before, I can't guarantee anything will work or that your device will work afterward.
Link: AWAttempt2.zip
UPDATE 5: added my slightly modified updater files from fomey's null_ ROM attached at the bottom. fomey, if we get this working, could you package it in to null_ as a second ROM option?

Thank you for testing so quickly! I'm glad it did not cause any serious issues to your device. I will do some talking with some devs I know and see what I can get worked out. Porting to the 1 will actually be easier than to the 2 or Neo, since there is an android base for the 1, unlike the 2 and Neo which are Tizen only.
Do you have a change log? If this is based on Null, it's still 4.2, while the wear launcher, if I remember correctly, requires a newer version of Android, probably 4.4. Just curious what your plans are to deal with that. Seems to me the only real options are either editing the wear app or porting 4.4 aosp and hoping the launcher works. Theoretically, the gear live dump could be ported but the major difference between cpus makes it a much more difficult task than people originally hoped. I think the best chance would be if a dev team (ie CM) were to pick up the protect, but there's the downside to a large bounty: there's a lot of people wanting to go it alone for the cash.
Sent from my VS985 4G using XDA Free mobile app
Trust me, I'm not doing this in an attempt to get the bounty. The money doesn't interest me at all. As far as the change log goes, this is the absolute first attempt, so there hasn't been anything changed yet. So again, this was a quick attempt in an effort to get the ball rolling and get the community involved in the development.

No worries, I didn't think you were. You didn't have the typical billion "Donate please!" links that they would.
But what does first attempt mean? Just null kernel and modules with gear live system folder? I know a little about these things so I'd like to take a look, mostly out of curiosity, so I'd like to know what you've already done, preliminary as it is.
I agree though, we needed some kind of thread started and I agree that it's too early to put anything in the development forum.

Not just a swapped out system folder. the base of the null_ system folder is still there. I only migrated the things necessary for a standard port. The only issue is that there is no ROM for the gear live yet, so a proper permissions section is not available for me to port from the updater script of the live to the updater script of the galaxy gear. I'm pretty convinced that if someone with a little more knowledge than myself edited the updater script permissions section to set the proper permissions for the new files, that this would at least boot.
Hi guys, I stumbled across this ebay listing item number 161368138405 . The seller claims he will update your gear to 4.4.2 for £25 + p & p , I have emailed the developer a link to the bounty thread, hopefully he may be able to help.

Would like to se a device info screen screenshot.
In the pictures he wirtes "This is not for the watch"
And later on "(1) Watch will become android 4,4,2"
Does he know what he is selling or not?
When he says "This is not for the watch", I think he means that you are not buying the watch in the picture. That is, you are not buying the physical watch, just the software upgrade.
I think it is high risk when you send your watch to him.

Sick of this damn call timer when trying to use other apps during a call.
Although that there isnt the main reason why I'm getting rid of this phone, I'll go ahead and add it to the ever growing list of reasons why I'm dumping it and getting a Nexus 6. Screw LG and their locked down pile of garbage. Sad thing is, it's so much wasted potential.
I love it when a new device comes out, and XDA becomes riddled with whiney posts about "this" or "that" which users say they 'hate' or 'can't stand'. Okay, so there's no publicized root method yet, deemed safe for consumerism, but once that's released I'm sure that every little quarky nuance will have a method to remove, hide, or alter in some way. The call timer has an option for hiding in the LG G3 via G3 Tweaksbox. With that example, I stand confident that this phone will have some type of similarities to, as I mentioned, "deal" with the things people complain about. Fact is, this phone is not impressively different from the G3, and there are no real profoundly engineered improvements made in the G4. You may ask, "Apex, y u bye did fone den?" Good question. My answer is this, I like LG's products and I appreciate the work developers are able to do, in order to make something good, great. So, in the meamtime, until root is available, you won't hear me having a hissy fit about (insert whatever) things. Samsung isn't for me, HTC is bunk, Motorola, well... been there, done that. I think most folks would respect those complaints be made on Reddit, or somewhere besides the place that developers afford us the grace of enjoying what they do for the community, free of charge.

Because clicking a check box to unlock the bootloader is so hard. Root takes time on all modern devices.
Hahaha... Now root being available, I've installed debloated ROM and 3000mah battery serves me really well. Not to mention boost in speed as well. On stock ROM, I was missing my nexus 5 so much.
I hope you stuck around for a little longer. Feels like beasty phone just got injected with the steroid.

Agreed....I was fed up with this phone.....root came and glory glory amen it's a better phone. Even with just a simple debloated ROM....can't wait till they really tweak the stock ROM like crazy. I probably won't go aosp....because of the camera app...whole reason I bought the phone...it deletes the side car RAW file in the default gallery aosp can't do that...neither can manual camera app or Fv5

I'm not sure if you figured it out, but since we have root, you can download app ops from play store. Go to the phone section and disable draw on top. It will stop the timer. And so far I have not noticed anything wrong.

Seems like a really silly reason to get rid of an otherwise awesome phone...
What's funny is that the current root methods as dangerous as they are. Are no more dangerous then when I had my Evo4g, and that team didn't have something like "OEM Unlock" to make it easier. No risk, no reward.
Not to mention that you can drag that icon anywhere on the screen so i dont see how it can be so intrucive during other app usage. Also why dont you just talk on the phone, your on a call, pay attention and stop playing with other apps, real easy

I'm debating if I should (for the first time ever), forego unlocking the bootloader and stay on the stock rom. Reasons being rom support is unclear because of the new chip set, but also ota updates, dash charging and Android pay compatibility.
I know I won't be able to restore my titanium backup from my OPO but I'm alright with that.
What do you guys think?
Sent from my A0001 using Tapatalk
In my opinion... You must unlock the bootloader and explore the world beyond stock rom. Androids are supposed to root, that's the beauty of it and that's why manufacturers like Oneplus doesn't void warranty now a days. Op3 has a very good dev community and that will be same on Op3t too. I highly recommend you to go ahead and unlock the bootloader.

I've considered not rooting, but honestly one thing has kept me coming back: adaway. I can't stand intrusive ads--and lets be honest, they're ALL intrusive.

Haha I think we're all the same ! I only root for being able to use AdAway and access to all my phone files and apps. ROM Toolbox is a highly needed app for me too.
I saw that unlocking and rooting doesn't void the waranty ? I didn't know that, great thing ! I hope there will be stock roms avalaible to flash then. I'll come from my Nexus 6, time to change !

I don't mind a bit of ads as that's how I see some people making money from the good contents they make. But I have problem w/ non-root Android as it offer no good way to do backup. The only thing that very works is Titanium Root Backup. Yes, every one can say crap all they want about having cloud backup or stay on google stuff but none of that crap work on most games. It's BS at this point that Google is still trying to push everyone away from rooting, but offer no good backup method.

This is a good point, and most of the time (on desktop) I allow non-intrusive ads. But on my phone, when a pop-up will block an entire webpage, I'm not dealing with it. Sadly, some app makers suffer but I'll still lay the blame on the ad companies.
Root for xposed and Youtube adaway

There are some that get through, but I believe it blocks everything for browsers and apps. I've never really tested with Youtube, but any ads built in to the video (sponsored) I think still play.
Yeah I root for adaway, blocking YouTube ads and modifying kernel and using skynet. It's just more fun to be able to tune and optimise too my liking.
I root for adaway, kernels to optimize battery life and depending sometimes Roms
If Oneplus' Oxygen OS allows me to use Titanium Backup and Xposed mods, as well as edit some ini documents in root without root then I guess I don't need it.
But seeing as thats the whole point of rooting, I really don't see any way around it. Some of you might laugh, but I install apps and edit settings to mimic the navigation setup similar to the Amazon Prime phone. Tap Home for Home, Hold for Google, double tap for Recent apps, and swipe up from the bottom to go back. Its surprisingly intuitive and unique. It keeps software keys off the screen, and no accidental presses on the capacitive buttons, as well as you don't need to stretch or awkwardly bend your thumb, its just always naturally resting where Home is.
My only question is if the Home button on the OnePlus is capacitive or clicky.

Capacitive I believe from the op3 I've seen.

I've been rooting and installing custom roms since the windows mobile days. I just find that the return on using custom roms is getting smaller and smaller now with OOS and the features built in to it now.
Adaway is pretty clutch. I usually go a little while after a clean flash without Adaway but then it needs to come back.
Has anyone here used android pay? How useful is this?

There is no such a thing like absolute benefits. It mostly depends upon your objectives.
If all you need is to call, text and write instant messages, then keep your stock phone. Easy.
I need a long lasting battery (with my Oneplus One I am at little more than 40 hours), decent camera, a call recorder and no bloat.
Thus I go root, install CM, remove system apps I don't want/need. Also easy, it takes just 10 minutes more.

Android pay depends on where you are. I'm in Utah and can use it virtually anywhere and I make sure I do. Don't have to pull out my wallet and wonder if I have to swipe or use the chip reader. Just tap and I'm on my way. Probably going to stay stock just to make sure I can keep using it.

Yes, I know there are no absolute benefits. I'm just asking others what their benefits are

I really don't need root. I just wish Safety Net would pass with an unlocked bootloader. I love using Android Pay but I can't stand ads either. With an unlocked bootloader you don't need root to block ads, you just need TWRP so you can adb push a host file to block them.
