Just got Urbane, initial impressions

Snagged one online through Verizon and did overnight delivery. So I'm going to give 2 impressions here
1) Appearance
2) Usabality
For for the 1st impression on appearance the watch is exactly what I wanted, I love the silver, I love the roundness, I LOVE LOVE LOVE a true "always on" screen mode, and I like the leather band. I may actually keep the band for awhile before swapping it out with a silver one somewhere. The watch faces are pretty, the resolution is nice, and the overall appearance of elements is colorful and nice.
EDIT: Ok apparently there was even MORE updates after the initial update payload. I did check that I was running 5.1.1 but after about an hour another "system update swipe left to install" appeared. After that update completed I noticed what appeared to be a bunch more apps sync'ing, such as Maps, Keep, notification toggle, etc. FINALLY once all of these completed the watch appears to have returned to normal and is currently running GREAT. Smooth high fps screen transitions, responsive touch control, responsive voice recognition, etc. Make sure you let this watch sit for a good few hours before attempting to do much with it. Google does A LOT to it in the background at first boot.

Lots of "android wear stopped responding", lots of "little cloud indicator showing you have disconnected", and LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS of LAAAAGGG!! Omg this watch feels borderline beta, completely unstable. Maybe it's because it has only been running for 15 minutes, and maybe it's because it took half an hour to update (I'm guessing Verizon did not ship it with 5.1.1). The thing took forever on first boot, but now that it's running it's just out of control. Totally unresponsive. You'd seriously think something is wrong with it. You tap the screen nothing happens, you tap it again you feel it buzz but nothing happens, you stop tapping and stare at it for 10 seconds and then suddenly 10 things happen. It's as if the watch is just completely clogged up with background CPU tasks that it's playing catchup. Pretty lousy. I'm hoping this will pass after a day of usage or so.
My only gripe right now is that this is really poor form and only furthers the bragging rights Apple users get. My buddy got an Apple Watch and that thing worked beautiful out of the box. Apple knows customers dont want a ****ty first impression and made sure their devices perform amiably the moment it is powered on. Google apparently doesnt give a **** and anyone is allowed to do whatever they want with their brand, such as crippling Android Wear with a clearly untested product launch.
Oh well, only time will tell.

I have been using mine for about an hour and have not seen ANY lag. I have also not disconnected from the phone once. my R did it a few times a day. The first boot and connection did take forever, but mine has been working lag free and perfectly the whole time. I know it is early, but maybe you just got a lemon

Pretty much the same experience here. The initial boot and sync process (then subsequent update) take forever, but after that, this thing is butter.
So far, I have to admit I'm not a huge fan of the leather strap. Maybe it just needs time to be broken in, but I'm already eyeing replacements.
Did I mention this thing is GORGEOUS??

Yes I am the same as you on the strap..... Maybe because it is just so new, it seem to make the watch hover above my wrist

Hello guys, may I ask you how does the watch work when is connected over WiFi? For example are you able to access to your play music library? Or in general are there some unknown tricks? Thanks and good buy

Korean version Vs US version?
Does anyone know if there is a difference between the Korean version that everyone is getting off ebay Vs. The US version say from Google, Verizon, att&t?

As far as I can tell, the best way to think of the WiFi functionality is "extended bluetooth". It doesn't seem to have any independent WiFI or network functionality. It still has to be talking to the phone, which does have to have some type of connectivity, but the phone doesn't have to be on the same network or on WiFI at all. I turned off both WiFi and BT on the phone, and it could still talk to the watch (through the cell data connection). That added flexibility probably only has a few practical uses, but I absolutely love being able to have the watch and walk more than 20 ft. away while still being connected.

Ok I have had it for day and my initial impression of the Urbane is positive completely opposite of the OP, granted the initial set-up can take up-to 20-30 minute, I've also had the system updated to 5.1.1 .
It is fairly responsive far better than moto 360, not much lags and also the battery life is much better you could easily go through 12 hours of heavy usage or 15 hours for moderate usage. It may have the same innards as the G Watch R but I think LG have done a good job making it look more watch like and something that at first glance looks like a normal watch.
My negatives would be that as I have small wrist it is slightly too big and the strap could have been of better quality. I will go far as to say this is currently the best android smartwatch until moto 360 mk II, Huawei watch etc....
Bottom for line for the money I think it is worth it, cant complain.

How is the vibration on the notifications?
I tried a Moto 360 and I could barely tell when it vibrated.

Any chance of a system and boot dump guys?

Vibrations good. I will side with Apple as far as being able to customize vibration intensity.

After mine was completely done with its startup I rebooted it and performance has been fine.
Hated the stock strap but I knew I would going in as I greatly dislike cheap leather straps and I had a nice SS bracelet here ready to be installed when the watch arrived. Tested the stock strap for about 15 seconds and went to the jeweler and had them put on the bracelet instead, better in every way. Honestly 22mm is a very common size and there are straps for every owner of all kinds, don't stick with the stock strap for one minute if you don't like it. You can do much better.
Someone paying attention will realize this is not a normal watch but for the most part I think you will have few people notice the watch, it manages to blend pretty well.
If you don't notice the vibration on this one then it isn't a problem, your corpse will not respond to the notification anyways.

I wonder that either...? If they are all the same I can consider buying from a South Korean seller in Ebay.

Couldn't understand clearly what you are asking but;
This is a smartwatch for phones running android platform.
It is not a phone. It connects to your phone through bluetooth.
This smartwatch's brand is LG.
You can purchase it from South Korea, USA, UK and some other places as well as from internet, for example from Ebay.

I don't have my watch yet, but are you saying the vibration is much stronger than the Moto 360? If so, just that is enough to convince me to buy it! P.S. I have always preferred metal bands too.

I have not tried the 360 so I cant comment on its comparative vibration strength. I can say the vibrate on this one is more than strong enough to get my attention when I'm busy. Alarm vibes will continue until you cancel them at least in the near term, I haven't tried leaving it go and seeing if it stops vibrating after so many minutes. The only time I can see myself actually missing an alarm is if I was quite active but theimplication there is I would probably prefer to attend to the activity I was involved in rather than a notification on my watch.
I'm sorry I cant help more, if this is a very strong point you might consider waiting for the phone to be available for fondling in a retail outlet before purchasing.

I'm coming from a Galaxy Gear S and I have 2 small issues. 1st battery life I'm already down to 27% after 7 hrs of use (gear s after 14hr day would still have 70% left) hopefully this will improve after a few days of use. 2nd I wish the display was larger like the 360. Everything looks a little squished to me.

Yep... I'm on day 3 or 4 after a full reset post-update, and I'm only getting about 8-10 hours myself. That's with brightness set at 2 and "Always On" screen turned off. Not sure what the culprit is, but I'm going to try one more full reset and resync.

Got GS6 Active

Just picked up my GS6 Active. I held out due to the smaller battery in the GS6. Coming from a GS2 rooted running pure CM, this thing is filled with bloat. Anyone else get one?
Anyway to root this thing to install TiBkup and freeze the bloat?

Considering it just came out today, I'm going to go out on a limb and say no.

I'm in the same boat; since the GS2 (which I'm still using), this is the first Galaxy S* that's made me want to upgrade. I'm going to (try to) hold off for a week or so though, and see what people's experiences are.

I actually skipped the Active this year on purpose. I Just ended up getting a 64GB S6 and putting it in a case. I came from an AT&T S4 Active (SGH-i537) and was disappointed by how restricted it was and how difficult it was to find support in the development community. I waited to get an S6 until a couple weeks ago, until I was sure it was rootable and flashfire was working.
I also didn't want to give up the fingerprint sensor which was a feature that was very attractive to me on the S6. I am now quite happy. I might not be able to shower with the phone now, but the tradeoffs were too big to get me to consider the Active this time around again.

I'm with you. I much prefer the regular S6 to the Active. I've got a regular S6, gold, 64 GB AT&T model and I love it.

Got one today as well. I believe the kernel is too new to use PingPong Root.

I am actually not that worried about it. I just disabled the apps and done. I'm actually tired of romn' phones and doing all that jazz anymore. If they come out with a one step root I may do that.
I'm more concerned with battery life and don't care about fingerprint scanner. Waterproofing is just a bonus.

It is an awesome phone! I wanted the built in weather proofing, and the larger battery is great so I waited patiently! I did not care that the battery could not be easily swapped out, but I did want to be able to replace it myself when it needed it as well as do other minor repairs. At the very least I did not want to mail the phone off but take it in to a nearby repair center. I cannot find unboxing videos or detailed pictures. Can anyone post some especially of the port on the bottom and back? I was set to get this, but it is my understanding that it is going to require a heat gun to take the back off too just to replace the battery or even replace the charging port door--something I can easily do with the regular s5 model? If I had a Samsung repair center near me like an Apple center, I may have still considered this phone. There is still a small part of me that is still hoping against the odds that this thing is not glued together, but I am told it is. Why could they have not just tucked the sides under the metal flaps to hold the back down better and just screwed it down. They have screws there anyway for looks????
I am still trying to decide on getting this or getting something else like maybe the s5.
I am not sure about being limited to the 32 GB storage either, but I think I could get by with an OTG adapter for special events when I needed to record them. Wish there would have been a 64 GB option.
I also do not like the lack of MHL support as our Internet here is slow and not good for Chromecast.
For anything else I for go for pink, frilly looks (I am a middle-aged mom), but I just wanted a phone that I could use without worrying about day-to-day use. So this phone in an Otterbox (the black or gray it is going to come in) is just fine with me!
Thanks for any information for those who went out and got this. I have the feeling I am going to going with another phone though

Just so you know there is no door on the S6A, all the ports are just open.

I have it too. So far so good. Upgraded from an active 4.

I spent an hour playing with one in the "flagship store" in Boston. I finally decided that I wanted to buy it and the sales guy says oh we only have it in Camo white.. I wanted regular grey. They had 4 display models on the floor. I guess I'll have to order it online..

So I just did an overnight battery test. I have GPS disabled and WiFi set to turn off (more data useage) when it goes to sleep. I have NFC disabled as well as the LED on the front, etc. Overnight for 10 hours the battery dropped 6%. For me that is pretty damn good for a bloated factory image.

So how's the cell signal strength so far? Curious since it's got a different type case as opposed to metal and glass.. Also how's screen look. Solid white background have pink tint?

I see no pink hue, looks solid white to me on a google screen.
If I let this page sit on high brightness, http://jasonfarrell.com/misc/deadpixeltest.php?p=2, I can see either a slight pink tint toward the bottom of the screen or it is me going blind from staring at it.
I don't travel a lot so cell strength seems normal to me.

Have you checked to see where it was assemble (Vietnam, Korea, etc...) and what type of camera sensor it has? Isocell vs Sony? Sorry for the 20 questions just wondering how it compare to regular S6.

I made sure it was made in Korea. How would I find the camera sensor info

Help me convince myself to keep my Pixel 4XL

Hi everyone,
Like many people out there, I'm the proud owner of a Pixel 2 XL which I love. I pre ordered and received a Pixel 4XL last week, but I haven't opened it yet out of... doubt.
I have always liked Google's phone (have had one of them for the last couple years, since the Nexus era), and I was really looking forward to get the Pixel 4XL this year, however, as many of you know... we are missing:
A fingerprint scanner: I could just use the Mod to use Face unlock on all apps, so fine, I can live without it.
Photo/video backup: I don't mind paying, but backing up videos is not going to be a $2 a month deal...
A wide-angle lens: My Pixel 2 doesn't have it either... so ok?
A real 90hz screen support without killing battery by forcing it
I'm getting tired of trying to convince myself that I should keep it, specially after I started comparing it to the OnePlus 7 Pro... which has a similar price point.
Should I just give up? Help me find reason to keep it, I have always cared more about the experience more than the hardware specs but this time it's getting tough.

I love mine, not concerned with reviews. It's fast, fluid and Android 10 runs as intended. Face Unlock is awesome. Soli gestures are cool and promising for the future I think. Camera is crazy good. 90hz works well, not sure why you'd say not real 90hz. You can force it on and it's sweet. New Assistant is awesome. It's the first phone I've ever enjoyed running stock. Everyone is different, but this is my favorite phone since Nexus 6 so far.

Can't convince you, sorry. I sent mine back. Honestly though I'm waiting till a price drop and by then maybe they will clean up the 90 hz and other minor issues ie apps not supporting face unlock.
As far as battery life goes, it lasted long enough for me. So not really concerned about that.

I would have opened that puppy, and run it through the ringer for a week. You have 2 weeks to return it...well maybe just a week now, but really, how else are you gonna know? I don't pay much attention to reviews, I buy what I like. I love my P2XL as well, but the experience for me is so much nicer than the 2, except for the FP sensor. But oh well, that's likely going to be the norm from here on out. As the saying goes.....fortis Fortuna adiuvat

Yeah you wasted a week with it just sitting in the box. Open and use it. How can you decide without giving it a try especially if you already have it right there.

With Pixel it's not about the specs, it's about how it works every day. Some people forget that, we use phones to get stuff done, not to attain the biggest number in stat columns. As said above, give it a try, send it back if your not feeling the love. Unless of course you know you could put the ching to better use and purchased only because you lusted your way into clicking the buy button after getting a few pints in your belly.

Completely agree here, what are some of the features that are Pixel-specific? I can only think of Soli support, better google assistant (but I feel like this will be brought to all devices later?) and better photos. But I'm assuming that there are ROMs out there that port most of the Pixel features?
Like I said, I have been using Google devices only, so I don't have a reference of what I would be missing, that's mainly the reason I posted this

I had the 3 XL and I'm not looking back. Sure I miss the fingerprint sensor at times but everything else is sweeter.

I had the 2xl and loved it but haven't doubted the switch to the 4xl at all. It's a far superior experience.

I went with the 4xl over the OnePlus 7 pro, I honestly couldnt be happier. I am coming from the pixel 3a as well.
Photo and video back up is still free, its just not in original quality from what I understand.
Why is everyone blaming google for app developers not incorporating face unlock into their apps. Google literally has no control over who adds face unlock.
I agree about the camera, this is also my least looked at feature.
I have the 90hz forced and I have zero issue with battery life on my xl. Battery life is subjective to the user and all reviews have zero real world use of battery life after a single week.
This is an amazing device and I really wish people would stop paying attention to these youtube reviewers who make money based off of how many clicks they get. We all know bad press and harsh titles get the most clicks. People also need to understand that a reviewer who is paid to never put down the phone is not real world use, nor does it reflect actually battery life based on ones usage.
I guess if you want the internet to tell you how to spend your money, I would just send it back. Seems like youtube has already made up your mind for you, seeing as how its been in a box for a week. When you could have opened it and made the choice yourself already.

Lets see; the easiest way might be to point out a few Pixel moments during my day today. This morning I needed to send a picture of a document as a PDF. I pulled out my trusty Pixel and took a picture of it with lens which will recognize a document and offer the option to create a pdf and send as such and I was done. Later I was getting driving directions from my daughter to a local cafe which had just opened and wasn't showing on Maps. She just moved into the place but hasn't got the road names down yet so I used the recorder to get verbal directions of the "turn right at the big yellow house" kind and referenced the recording on the way. I didn't help cook dinner which made me the dishwasher when the much maligned Soli stepped in to show that it does have a use case. I've recently discovered Electronica, mostly trance, some of it I love and some of it, well, I hate. While washing dishes I swiped away several songs of the uh uh variety without having to do the quick dry off of hands. Very convenient. A general thing; I used the assistant many times trying to keep up with the Seahawk game along with a few random tasks. I find the quicker response of assistant to be a big improvement which for me was unexpected, I never felt bothered by the delay before but I find I'm liking not having it now. I also took some shots of my fast moving grandkids and the motion shot did fetch me a couple shots that were better than what I would have got without it. I also didn't get a single spam phone call today which is just like yesterday and probably tomorrow, Goog is getting really good at blocking which is much appreciated. So that's what my Pixel did for me today.
Some of those features have trickled down to previous Pixel devices or were already there and some of them have been ported over to OnePlus. I own one of those so I keep up with that side. Take the camera, they already have a port but it doesn't work as well there. It didn't with the 7, didn't with the 6T, the 6, etc. There are always missing features or bugs or something, it never just works. Same with grabbing the dialer. You get some things to work, sometimes you get all of them to work but they never all work all the time. You really do get some of the goods to work properly but you wont be recreating a Pixel experience on the OP device of the day, it's been this way all along from the first Pixel till now. This isn't to say the OP isn't a good device or that you shouldn't buy it but you shouldn't buy it thinking you're going to grab all the Pixel stuff in the ROMs, that isn't going to happen. Some of it you'll get and it works, some you get and it's buggy and/or partially works, and some you wont get at all.
Going back to the start, it's about the experience with Pixel. It's nothing revolutionary or exciting, just the little things like hearing a song you don't like and swiping it away in the middles of dishes. Seeing your grandchild blink right as you press the button but you got the picture anyways. These Pixely things don't make great bullet points but they make for a satisfying device to own.

You'd be surprised. But there was a test out there with the OnePlus 7t with the Snapdragon 855+ vs the pixel 4 with the Snapdragon 855... processing video. And the pixel 4 killed the OnePlus somhow with a slower processor and less ram. It really isn't all about the specs. This pixel 4 feels very well optimized. And let's be honest, 1+ cameras aren't as good as the pixels... Plus I'm sorry but certain things on the OnePlus when I had it, completely sucked and made it feel cheap, like the microphones, the vibration motor.
Just open up your pixel 4 and enjoy it. If you had the 2, you will love it. Plus all these silly reviews about the phone having bad battery life is ridiculous, I have force 90 on and I'm getting a full day very easily, as are many others on here.

I have had the 4XL for just over a week now and I am conflicted myself. In the UK we do not get no questions asked returns (did not buy direct from Google) so I'd have to sell it on if I decide not to keep it, I am on the fence though TBH and I think there are 3 main things that are bugging me:
- The build, some seem to like the industrial design but every time I pick it up it just feels underwhelming. Honestly I think it feels a little cheap, maybe it is those plastic look edges.
- No ultra-wide
- Storage needs managing. I have the 128gb, it is just about enough but I have to think about what I put on there. With larger storage or an SD card I can have all of my music plus some local FLAC files, Netflix or Amazon for my commute and not even think about it. 256gb rather than 128gb solves this
The thing is that there still isn't a droid that ticks all of my boxes so for me at least it is pick your compromise, I also have a Mate 20 pro (resale so low I have kept it) and I really really like it even if the OS is a little rough around the edges and the camera slightly behind the Pixel and new iPhones now. Having had both of the Note 10s and the S10 I am leaning towards thinking that Samsung maybe still offer the best overall droid package. OnePlus are so so close now though!
Google have IMO had an open goal for the last 2 years, and just do not seem able to finish the job

Lets see; the easiest way might be to point out a few Pixel moments during my day today. This morning I needed to send a picture of a document as a PDF. I pulled out my trusty Pixel and took a picture of it with lens which will recognize a document and offer the option to create a pdf and send as such and I was done. Later I was getting driving directions from my daughter to a local cafe which had just opened and wasn't showing on Maps. She just moved into the place but hasn't got the road names down yet so I used the recorder to get verbal directions of the "turn right at the big yellow house" kind and referenced the recording on the way. I didn't help cook dinner which made me the dishwasher when the much maligned Soli stepped in to show that it does have a use case. I've recently discovered Electronica, mostly trance, some of it I love and some of it, well, I hate. While washing dishes I swiped away several songs of the uh uh variety without having to do the quick dry off of hands. Very convenient. 1. The build has been complimented alot this year for feeling more premium. Also do you slap a case on your phone? If so then that point is kind of out the window anyway. But I understand it is a subjective thing. There may even be way a way to strip that anodizing off the borders if you are the creative type.
2. Honestly even if it had an ultra wide, you cannot use it in anything but the best lighting conditions because of the aperture. Just look at the iPhone photos in anything but perfect lighting. You are much better off if you want wide angle shots using a moment lens on your main snapper to get a proper shot... Which is exactly what I have and do. This would apply to all phones with those different lenses. I do find the tele useful though because I can actually take tele on tele shots with my zoom lens and get about 4x optical zoom, which is absolutely fantastic.
3. Storage I agree you can get in to a dead end if you like large apps and music stored on your phone locally... But if you stream and use the cloud for photos it is very doable.

I'm not going to try and convince you, but I am happy with both the 2XL and the 4XL. Each for their own reasons. There's gains and losses no matter which one you pick. With that said, I'm content with my 4XL, and I made reasons to justify the 4.
My reasons for keeping the 4; my son gets my 2XL, and I get new hardware.

I went from 2XL to 4XL and won't look back at all. The Camera has gotten me several great shots already and it just feels smoother and faster.

I'm new to the pixel family. I was with Samsung Galaxy when I had my first major brand-name phone then went to lg. Now a happy owner of the p4xl to me this phone is great great camera but lg cam 8s better hardware wise but software wise p4xl has it. I think with all the complaints I keep hearing and reading about the cam, I feel Google focus on so and software more then anything and they did a great job. Plus you get updates faster then any brand out there.. I hear people complaining also about how cheap the phone feels but this phone feel heavier then I'm use too. I feel the ones who are really complaining are not appreciative of where Google's trying to go to in the future where just thinking about hardware and how each phone out me to another phone or another competitor but I feel good doing this right sore for it was hardware wise and it's just going to get better I think but that's for a first time Google pixel 4 user experience

If you need convincing I would say you don't want it. Just my opinion but I usually know when I want to keep or return something.

Question I need a new phone.

I want to buy a Motorola Edge 20 Pro but i want to ask anyone with a Edge 20 Pro could you please check if there is discoloration or tint issues in the display and sent me a picture I would really appreciate it. I am thinking of buying this phone but i held off because I wanted to know if the screen gets a green tint when viewed in darker apps like a dark mode of chrome or anything similar with a dark grey background. I have heard oled sceens tend to have this issue.
I myself used 2 phones with this issue they were the Poco F3 and the Pixel 6 and i both returned them for the green tint issues.

I noticed that last night actually. I was watching some videos and screen got really dark, and top of my screen was a bit brighter for some reason. I downloaded black picture, and put it on full screen, and then I dim the brightness down, and yeah, same result.
I would not recommend this phone to anyone. I have a touchscreen issues, entire UI is bugging, camera quality is awful. Fingerprint sensor is unresponsive at least 30% of the time.

Weren't the touchscreen issues supposed to have been sorted via a software update earlier in the year? What problems are you having with the ui? The camera does seem to get a lot of complaints, your not on your own there.

My issue looks like this, Ive tried launchers, just stock UI, to hard reset my edge 20 pro, and use just stock ui, but after a while, same bug is happening.
And for the camera, you have tons of complaints as well, tho they made it a little bit better with last update, users waited a year for that lol.

Im still have issues of some double touches.

Alright so i have been away for a little while, but now I’m back and i have to say that you’re right about the Motorola Edge 20 Pro I actually bought that phone because I thought let’s give it a chance how bad can it be? But boy was I wrong, because the phone had many problems. First of all. Lag issues, like everywhere. Second of all. Screen issues, black crush, green tint on the top of the phone and red tint on the bottom of the phone. Software was laggy and touchscreen was unresponsive. So I returned the phone and finally got a refund.

I've reached out to Lenovo support. They asked me for a lot of bug reports, which I have provided.
What I've noticed lately is a burst of touches that happens sometime. Like, I'm typing a message "what's up?' And phone would just glitch and act like i pressed 10 of letters "p", 'Whats's uppppppppppp" With all vibrations for every letter.
Also, double touch function on finger print sensor is not working like 70% of time. And just like a strawberry on a cake. Every time you reboot/turn off and on your phone, this function will disable itself for some reason.
I've have Sony xperia J, Sony M2, Sony XA, Motorola g6, Moto g6 play, Redmi Note 8 pro, and now Motorola edge 20 pro.
So far, this phone is the worst phone I've have ever had.
It's not worth this money nor your nerves to deal with all the issues this phone have.

I didn’t even need to contact Lenovo directly I just contacted the store told them my issues, but they ended up sending me a new phone (The same phone) even though i said I didn’t want it anymore. At first, I had some trouble returning the phone afterwards, I returned the phone to them which took 3 times to walk to the store and back because there was some sort of communication issues and that’s why they returned the phone to me even though i sended it and demanded a refund which they agreed upon eventually but then sended the phone back and yadadadadadadadadda. End of the story is that I eventually, headachely returned the phone and got my money back. Because the store was so nice and actually told me that i will get my money back which is better then contacting lenovo and going through the stupid hassle of trying to contact them and them saying that “they will help you and yadadadada” Because let’s be real the manufacturer just wants you to keep the phone lol.

I took this phone over Yettel carrier. So I will try anything before trying to return it. As it will be really difficult.... The phone must go to the official service center 3 times before they would be able to process a refund to me.
And I need phone so. Yeah, im stuck with this unresponsive, piece of glass and plastic.

Can’t you just use one of your other phones? As a back up (Unlike me who has them all with broken unresponsive screens) lol.

Got my refund back, and i don’t know which phone to buy.

Sorry to hear all these bugs about the phone. Mine had a recurring rebooting problem. Sent to official Motorola repair (3rd party, Roadhound), but they can't replicate the problem. I made a video about it here:

Question First Thoughts - Share Yours

So after spending the afternoon looking over my pixel 7 and setting it up I thought I would share a few thoughts.
I have had a number of larger phones over the years so the pixel 7 is smaller than what I am used to, I wanted a smaller size though as I had had enough of my "larger" phone.
I bought the Obsidian black version and all I will say is it is a massive fingerprint magnet, also it is one slippery bugger! More so than any other phone I have had, so a case for it is a priority.
There are a few of what I would call glitches, when turning the phone on from sleep the bottom third of the screen seems very faded before normalising, is that by design? I don't know.
Also talking of the screen it seems very dull, even at full brightness.
When putting the phone to sleep and then placing it on my wireless Google charger it wakes the phone back up the show the charging details and also the time date - The time date though are not how I had it set up, they are miss aligned - is there a setting to turn this off that I have missed somewhere? (I'm not talking about the always on display - I have that turned off)
Also the charging animations... wtf! Horrible! is there a way to turn that mess off?
So what are your first thoughts/initial impressions of your Pixel 7?
Anything little bugs/glitches that annoy you?
Anything you wish you could change?

I had issues with the 6pro as well, bought it direct from Google the day after release.
Had multiple issues with it and Google said they thought I had a defective unit and to send it back to them and they would replace it.
However no replacement showed up and they then just refunded me.
After that little fiasco I went and bought a S21+ which is the phone I was using until today.

That's not so good

Overall I am happy with it, no major issues.
1. Face unlock seems slightly worse than the Oneplus 7T from 2019. Maybe I am mistaken as it has been a while since I used the Oneplus.
2. My screen protector doesn't make contact on the left top edge, I tried applying two. Not sure if it's the protector or phone screen. It is perfectly centered.
3. For some reason it can take a second or two to load after clicking the settings app shortcut in the quick settings menu.
4. Have had some reproducible touch sensitivity issues. Again, not sure if protector or phone but I did enable screen protector mode. Didn't have this issue with the P6.
5. Once again I have to manually force high refresh rate for Snapchat and some other apps.
6. Not sure if this is the case with the Pixel 6, but Snapchat is taking a picture of the viewfinder. Looks absolutely horrible in low light without the Gcam processing.
7. The unlock animation does not look high refresh rate.
It almost feels like I am dropping more frames navigating the UI than my Pixel 6. Although I did follow the optimization guide for the Pixel 6, so I have to do the same on the 7 and see if there is a change. This is something I feel like will probably be improved via updates, it is release day after all.
Also what do you mean by charging animations?
This phone genuinely feels like a Pixel 6 with face unlock (which should have been added to P6 via software update).
Also please share Geekbench 5 scores, I got 1010 Single-core, 2771 Multi-core. Was kinda hoping it would be higher considering the "leaked" multi-core was 4000.
Got a 75mb update and Geekbench is now 1048/3237 which is more in line with what I expected.

If my phone screen is turned off and I then place it on the google pixel charge stand the screen wakes and does some kind of animation, then shows the clock and charge status for a few seconds before turning off again.
I would love to be able to turn all of those animations off, they are horrible.

Mine is perfect. No issues whatsoever.

Try turning it on

I'm coming from a Pixel 3 XL, and I was expecting a nice upgrade, but wow, I feel like I went from a 1992 Ford pickup to a 2023 Honda Civic Type R. What a difference. From the build quality to the overall feel. It is just such a premium experience. I set it up about three hours ago, and have been playing with it for about the last two hours. This thing is perfect. And for about 1/2 the cost of my Pixel 3 XL at launch. I can see myself keeping this for the five years of security updates easy. Even if the battery starts losing charge I know I can get it replaced like I did my 3 XL, so no worries for the next five years. At least five years. Maybe more.

Mine did the same thing for the first 15 minutes or so. Rebooting helped, but it still disconnected twice. After it download all my apps (in between disconnects, so it took a long time), and I finished setting it up, the Wi-Fi has been steady strong. I guess it was new growin pains. it's been running flawlessly the past three hours.

I had the same issue. It wouldn't reconnect after either. Forgetting the wifi network and adding it back fixed the issue.

I bought it yesterday. I hooked up to my LG V60 and synced up everything. Really painless setup. Been steady using it. I love all the photo feature Google packs in the Pixel 7. I have had no disconnections of wifi or anything like that. Calls are clear. Really love the phone. I hate using it without a case and screen protector. But have that coming after the weekend. Got the Spigen rugged case from Amazon. My only gripe so far is the face unlock. It's a bit wonky. But the finger sensor works great.

Try to redo the Face Unlock. Hold it arms length, and in a bright light area. I did that the second time, and now even when I'm sitting at a desk, and the phone is laying on top, if I double tap the screen, the Face Unlock can see me, and it unlocks instantly.
EDIT - Oh, and the calls are excellent. My first three were crystal clear. Way better than my 3 XL. I'd say better than landlines.

Phone is very fast coming from a Pixel 3. I do have to say this thing is **** huge and brick heavy. The fingerprint reader is horrible compared to a dedicated rear reader. Camera seems pretty nice, that unblur gimmick isn't production ready.

I absolutely love the screen. Feels heavy, but I don't mind it as it feels solid and I think is built well. I miss the back/feel of the pixel 2, which I don't know if people even liked that lol. My fingerprint basically never works though haha maybe I'm just registering it poorly. Came from OnePlus 8T, really missed the AOSP feel.

I came from oneplus 8t and im in love with this pixel 7, android stock its really more beautiful than these chineses software(s) like oos12.
Face unlock is working as expected, working good except when im in a dark room with low light
My only issue for now is fingerprint scanner, it's working about 1 time on 10 i don't understand why but there's an high chance that's screen protector fault, since i did not even try without it. After the unboxing of the phone, the first thing i did was put screen protector on it then unlocked bootloader and rooted.
Except for FP Scanner, this device is amazing IMO, super fluid animation and transitions from activities. I bought it because i was tired of big screen device and for my needs the dimenions of the display are perfect.
Of course, compared to the oneplus 8t that have an amoled display, colors are better and more brilliant (on op8t) but i don't dislike OLED of the P7, maybe more safier for my eye rests
And i won't speak about comparisons of the FP scanner of these device since the one of op8t is working ALWAYS, never miss a try
My next thing to do is to try FP without any screen protector and if it's working well, to buy a new screen protector maybe better than the one i have installed
EDIT: another important thing: since is my first time with non-snapdragon device, i've noticed that this tensor G2 is working really good, always cool even with wifi-data-gps-bluetooth are on in a connected session with android auto on my car. Oneplus 8t heats up during same sessions but not the pixel 7

The screen is so good. When I first started using it I though it was a good upgrade from my 3 XL, but now after a couple days of using it, I played with the 3 XL, and wow, what a difference. If feels so light and flimsy, and the screen is so dull compared to the 7. And yes the 7 is very heavy compared to the 3 series, but it add that premium feel because of it (IMO). The entire 7's build is quality. I look at my 3 now, and it seems like a Fisher Price toy.
EDIT - Redo your fingerprints. Take your time and read what it asks. I see a lot of setups on YouTube, and they complain about the fingerprint reader, and when I watch them set it up they just spam their finger each time. It asks for a certain angle on some. Like first press normal, then the tip, then the left side, then the right side. I think a lot of people don't read what's asked each press, and then it doesn't work well for them.

The first couple of days coming from a pixel 4a ,,P7 is heavier but in a good way ,, feels premium, and so far I could not be happier ,everything is better than the 4a, sound is louder and crisper, screen more vibrant and faster scrolling, voice quality on calls are amazing, call reception has been excellent even on low bars, Have not noticed any lag with this chipset but then again Iam not a heavy user, Iam sure I will find more things better but so far 100 percent like it.
