I have a Tmobile Note 8 with Android 9, it has baseband N950USQS8DTJ1. Which root can I use that will work with the above. It's been a while I rooted a phone and with so many videos and sites I'm confused. Thank you!

Read this thread:

Root is only available on android nougat nothing else. (Not PIE or Not Oreo). The above makes it possible to put on rooted nougat with later bootloaders versions.
Make sure to read the first post very carefully!
It doesn't UNLOCKED the bootloader so no TWRP or custom kernels.

This totally depends on what your build number is.
If your ROM version is G925VVRU1AOC3 then follow this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...nt/trailblazer101-lightlycleaned-rom-t3128758
If your ROM version is G925VVRU1AOE2 and you desire the latest build (which breaks root), I recomend you manually update after you follow this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general/sm-g925f-s6-firmware-thread-t3078841

As far as I am aware, there is no way to root the latest build, and likely never will be. If you read many of the threads, they all say the same thing, namely the OF1 build breaks root, has a kernel date that patches the exploit used in PingPong root, and makes it impossible to downgrade the firmware. There are plenty of ways to trip knox, yet none of them will root the latest build of the Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge. On the plus side, the latest build does have radio improvements.

There is no root meethod for the AT&T bootloader therefore no root. If you had used the search you would have found dozens of other people asking the same thing.
If anyone discovers a method how to root that phone you can be sure it will be published here and everybody will now. For now all I can refer you to is my thread on how to update the phone to the latest Marshmellow update (but that might prevent you from installing any root that is based on Lollipop in the future).
https://forum.xda-developers.com/att-galaxy-s5/general/g870a-updates-ph4-t3494717
EDIT: Actually there is a root method https://forum.xda-developers.com/at...w-to-update-to-g870aof2-5-0-keeproot-t3161733 for very old firmware versions. Still there are no custom roms that I know of.

Thanks a lot for reply, after a looooong search I have found this: http://www.droidviews.com/update-att-galaxy-s5-active-to-lollipop-root-it-and-enable-wifi-tethering/
So, I do that and now, I'm in Android 5.0, with baseband G870AUCU2BOF3 and happily rooted. But I have a question, Can I update to Marshmallow following your thread?
Thanks a lot again.

You can but you will lose root. There is currently no root method for Marshmallow.
Hello.
I was just wondering how exactly you did this? You downgraded to 5.0, and rooted from there? Can you explain to me what you did to root the G870A?

Hello all.
I just received an "unlocked" Sprint Note 8 cellphone N950U and Im a little confused.
I used to had a Note 4 that i flashed with a U firmware that removed all the bloatware, is this avaible for the Note 8?
Why arent custom roms or a stable root (magisk) avaible for this cellphone?
Had a lot of time retired from Samsung side (OnePlus guy here) but was stolen during a car accident that i had this weekend.
Thanks a lot and dont forget your safety belt while driving!

Oreo has not been OFFICIALLY released for the Note8. There has been some leaked builds, but none for the unlocked U1 firmware. So if you want Oreo, you'll have to go with carrier firmware.

You asked about unlocked firmware. That would be U1 firmware.
Hey everyone, I know it's probably too soon, but do we know yet if the bootloader can be unlocked after an Exynos N950F is upgraded to Pie through the official OTA update? What I want to know is: If I let this update happen, will I be unable to unlock and do custom roms after? Is it better to unlock while on Oreo and then update via custom roms only, etc.?
I haven't unlocked my Note 8 yet (only had it 1.5 months), but I want to keep my option to do so open.
Thanks.

Exynos varianst do not have a locked bootloader, never have.
You need OEM Unlock ticked in Developer options to be able to flash non-standard stuff. Once you load TWRP, and flash the stuff you want, as long as it has the RMM cleaning integrated, you'll be fine.
Many devs deliver bootloader/modem packages with the rom, mostly as a side package. Even if you came from Nougat, after flashing the bootloader/modem first, you'd be fine flashing the custom pie stuff after.

If you have a G973U like the OP, then a million posts would let you know it's not rootable.
Can it be downgraded from 11 to 10?
only if your on the same bootloader version "whitch I think is V4"
its likely your phone is on a later version

Since this thread comes up in searches, I thought it would be good to add that as of now, the Snapdragon 973U can be rooted. The bootloader can be unlocked if it is version 4 or less. There are threads on XDA that tell how.

For the beyond1qlte (Galaxy S10 SM-G973U Qualcomm) the latest bootloader version is 6 afaik.
To check your bootloader version look at 5th character from the right of your Android build number.
Examples:
bootloader version 5: N970USQS5EUA1
bootloader version 6: N970USQU6FUB7
Neither of those can be unlocked. As I said above, you need to be on 4 or earlier to unlock the bootloader on this device. @afaneh92 can give you more info.
EDIT: Oh, sorry. I misread your question. I don't know the last BL version for 10.

According to https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-s10/firmware/#SM-G973U latest USA Android 10 firmware had bootloader 4 (per the check MtnX2 mentioned). You can look at other countries if you are not in the USA.
On Snapdragon phones, you cannot downgrade the bootloader, so if you're already on Android 11 or a newer bootloader, you're stuck there and cannot go to an older version.

I recently purchased (from ebay) a Galaxy S10 with Android 11 and bootloader version 4, and I was able to unlock the bootloader and install a custom ROM. It wasn't easy to find the device because now most S10s are updated.

I believe Exynos can still be downgraded. The process is different for Exynos vs Snapdragon, so you may want to look into it more deeply... you just have to find Exynos-specific threads for the matter.

Its not exynos thread, but will answer you.
You can flash firmware has same bootloader rev, I assume 14=E
So only firmware with E on 5th character from the right on build number.
