I bought SGS from 2nd hand for my girlfriend. Seller said that phone is locked for Virgin (UK). I successfully removed simlock from my SGS (O2) before so i thougt that shouldn't be a problem for me now. But it is.
I checked with *#7465625# that simlock and all other locks are OFF (before i used phone with SIM). When I put any other SIMs than Virgin I get "Emergency calls only" message. Virgin SIM cards work perfect.
I tried remove lock (but there is no lock ???) with all methods from this forum and still have no reception with non Virgin SIM. I checkd 2.1, 2.2.1, and 2.3.4 stock roms and is same.
How I can resolve my problem?
Its possible if u have been using Odin that you have changed the CSC file, which is the modem, which receives signal. Does Virgin receive a signal ?
Yes, Virgin recive signal. Problem was before I flash any rom by odin.
I can see signal bars when non virgin but can't make call. Only emergency.
Maybe I can use some files from my unlocked and working mobile?
Ok, go here http://www.samfirmware.com/apps/profile/76570387/
You will need to register free, and you will loose root but thats easy sorted, download the latest 2.2 for the i9000 and flash it with Odin. Let me know if it helps, and be carefull with Odin, read all instructions carefully. Though i think the 2.2 is just one file, there for it goes into PDA in Odin.
You may also be sim-locked again, im unsure and im no expert at this. Or theres another site that helped me out. http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvp-android-2-3-4-firmware-galaxy-s-install-and-download/

I try to use few firmwares but it not change anything. I think that might be problem with nv_data.bin file. In my opinion someone try remove lock, failed, forgot to backup file and sold mobile to 2nd hand shop.
I have another full working sgs. Maybe I can copy some files and/or edit in hex editor?
Edit
Maybe someone can share me his nv_data.bin from locked or unlocked Virgin mobile please?
Sorry about link, but thats the site for the official firmwares from Samsung. I cant help you with copying files man, I know nothing about it.
I just got a used AT&T Vivid with what turns out are 2 anomalies that I failed to observe initially.
First I tried to put my ST sim card out my AT&T SGS, and get no service. No big shock initially since I have to change the APN info. Couldn't do that cause option is dimmed.Checked further, No IMEI, IMEI SV, or baseband. Took sim out and observed that I get NO sim error at startup, just "no service". Tried an AT&T sim from a friends Vivid, same result.
I was hoping that the sim card reader just might be bad, a cheap easy fix and apparently some what of a common issue. Haven't ordered one yet until I get more info on whether the no sim error and no IMEI etc are related and it's not a more serious hardware issue. I don't have a problem with repairing hardware if needed.I'm a noob here, but have a brain like a sponge, so any thoughts on how to proceed with diagnostics would be appreciated. Thanks in advance
No imei is really bad...
No one here can help you recover it without a proper backup... I have no idea how to back it up nor restore...
If you don't figure it out I'd have to suggest flashing to stock... prolly via ruu and go to an at&t store...
Sent from my Vivid 4G using Tapatalk 2
I don't think (but don't know 4 sure) that this phone is anything other than an out of the box stock configuration. I don't have service with AT&T so I don't know how much help they would be. I did check with them to make sure IMEI printed on the phone wasn't blacklisted and it's OK. All I have done was to do a factory reset to clear all the PO's stuff.
Does anybody have any more ideas? I am wondering if I don't need to replace the motherboard and or just the simcard/sd part. Changing the motherboard would mean a different IMEI right?
No imei means something went wrong with the bootloader. It's unlocked? Did you try to S-OFF?
I believe flashing a rom stock via RUU (that's it, flashing the PD.zip file) maybe can fix the problem.
At worst you must change the motherboard and yes, you will have a diferent imei.
I may be wrong, but I see no sign that anybody has done anything to change ROM or anything else on this phone. I'll try to do a S-off, and unlock it since I want to use it on ST anyway.
hello,
i've also same problem here
flashed with stock rom but no luck ,
bootloader locked and s-off
searched forum but no success story
i think i'll return it
Well I finally got a new SIM/SD card reader and installed it. No change.Tried ST, AT&T, and T-mobile sims
Still get no SIM error when booting with or without a SIM card, has an X on signal strength, and it doesn't even say "no service".
Same as to IMEI etc. info, nothing shows up.
Am I going to have to change mainboard? Or is it possible firmware/ROM changes could fix it?

Unlocked the bootloader tonight, no problem. Will try s-off tomorrow.
Where can I get a stock rom file?
I'll only ask this dumb ? once: Is the OS (JB,GB,ICS) different than the rom? I'm still running gingerbread 2.3.4, should I got to ICS or? Will that have any affect on the imei issue?
I might just be getting some experience with this phone if I have to do it all over with another mainboard.
OK, so I decided to play with this phone again after my SGS1 was freaking out yesterday. I finally found and used a phone dialer code do download the ICS update, and it downloaded (via wi-fi), installed and rebooted fine. In fact It apparently fixed my IMEI and SIM card problems because when it booted the first time with ICS it showed a big icon "no SIM installed" ya hoo!! checked IMEI in settings, all was good. Played around with settings/menus a bit to familiarize myself with the differences, then restarted...NO IMEI again, and no sim error without any SIM installed On the next 5-6 restarts it worked fine all but once, (total on time of around an hour) but now every restart (10+) it's back to same original issue: no IMEI shown and no SIM error. I still have no AT&T compatible SIM card to really test it but if it doesn't give me a SIM card error (no SIM card installed) it's a moot point.
It really puzzles me that it appeared to work at all if I have a bad mainboard. My daughter in-law has a Vivid with a bad screen she's going to give me to use for parts (mainboard) but I'm not sure if there's not still some hope of salvaging the current one.
Comment, thoughts etc... Please
I just got the note 4, rooted it and flashed a rom, however I have no service it shows. I am using Metropcs and it shows "no service" no matter what I try, if I take the sim card out then it will show the logo that there is no sim card inserted so it does recognize it at least. The sim card and service works fine in my other phones but I can't figure out how to get it to work on here.

What is the model number? And in "settings/ about device/status" does your number, IMEI, Network state or network show up?

The model number is the N910T3 version, it does show my number, it lists the IMEI and for all of the network state related stuff it lists it as "UNKNOWN."
Are you still on TEKXodus? If you came from an older version ie..4.4.4 or whatever then I'd suggest Odin flashing 5.1.1 stock, see if you get service then try flashing the custom rom again. Might be a mismatch in baseband and all that. Open dialer and punch in these numbers *#12580*369#*and make sure everything matches. Also run thru the thread you found the rom and make sure you flashed everything suggested.

I tried Odin flashing the stock 5.1.1 firmware and had no luck, also used Samsung Kies firmware to try and go back to stock as well just in case that would solve anything and I have no luck. It just shows " (No Service) " When I look in the status bar, and it still says it isn't registered.
And when you open dialer and input this *#12580*369# everything matches?

I'll go ahead and attach an image as well to show. Yes everything seems to match up when I input that in the dialer.
Sorry I wasn't doubting your word lol, honestly I'm kinda stumped as well, almost seems to be network locked. Is it a Metro branded phone or Tmobile? I wouldn't think that would matter. Wish I was more help fella

It is a T-Mobile brand phone, which I figured wouldn't matter much anyways, I've owned a few T-Mobile phones in the past and have had no issues using Metro Pcs even if the phone was locked because T-Mobile does own them. That's perfectly fine, thank you for giving some suggestions anyways that I hadn't thought of.
The Apn checks out? In settings?
U could also try flashing a data fix for the international roms. Maybe last resort try a new sim
Like the guy above said have you checked apn settings? You could also try in the mobile setting where it says Network Operators and then Search Now and let it search. Choose Tmobile if it pops up or if MetroPCS pops up choose that. If you need MetroPCS apns I have them since I'm on MetroPCS. Let me know if you've fixed this because I haven't rooted yet and plan to root and install Tekxodus rom but if this is a problem then I'll just stick with stock unroot. I have the N910T tmobile brand if that matters
APN settings have really nothing to do with his dilemma, my question would be this for the OP. Please check if the IMEI number matches the one that's on the back of the phone under the battery. I have a work around but i need to verify.
I went through the same problem coming from TekXodus rom. I tried everything and no luck. Flashed 5.1.1 stock and called tmobile about it. after their tech guy didnt know anything else i could try they sent me a replacement.
And now here I am again
I also flashed tekxodus from my wifes 4.4 phone. Now no sim card issue. Same as op.
Edit: flashed the correct baseband. All good over here.

Hey, everyone, I need some help:
On my SM-920G, I re-installed stock 6.0.1 (last official update before 7.0) and, now, I don't have access to the network (says emergency calls only). IMEI and serial number are both intact. What can I do to regain access to my network? I know it's not a motherboard problem because it happened after flashing stock software. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.
Thank you,

Did you install the right firmware for your region? You should check that or flash right modem file. If all else fails use kies to restore phone to factory or flash a custom rom and check if everything works.

So, I actually had to have an IMEI change... Long story - but, my question now is: is it possible to return to stock (completely stock) and NOT lose my IMEI number? I've heard some people say, "yes," and O be heard some people say, "no." Is it possible?

I don't think there is any risk of losing IMEI if you flash stock with odin, but if you have root then firstly take an efs backup, just in case, efs is where your IMEI is stored.

If you have root then in the root folder you will find a folder called efs. Just copy it and save it to your SD card or your computer. If you have custom recovery then you can save it from the backup option but I guess that won't help much if you flash stock with odin then it will remove your custom recovery. There are also some apps on the play store but I never used them, I use the first method.

Yeah, I'm just on stock, so that won't work - but, now I have another issue:
So, here's what happened... I got my IMEI changed, and all was good. But, then I realized that my phone was rooted. I tried to flash magisk to have magisk installed, and then my phone wouldn't boot up. Afterwards, I flashed stock to restore official device status, but when I did so, I realized that my network wasn't working. My IMEI (clean IMEI) is still showing, but I DO NOT have any access to my network and can't search the web or anything. What could be the issue, and what is the easiest way to fix it?

Did you flash the correct firmware? The same region as it was when it was working? Flashing a stock rom from a different region sometimes causes this and you need to flash the right one or at least the 'modem' file of the right one to get it working. Or you could use Samsung Kies software to completely recover your phone to its original state when it was bought. Also, What do you mean by saying changed IMEI? Did it not show it correctly or got corrupted and you fixed it? or you changed it completely to a different one from the original?
If you have a good IMEI just call your provider and give them your IMEI and your sim card numbers.

CodeNameRedNeck,
So, I have a good IMEI number, but I cannot register the network service. It tells me "Emergency Calls Only" even though it shows a signal in the top right hand corner. Are you saying that I just need to call TIGO (I am in Bolivia) and register my IMEI number as well the SIM card numbers - or, could it be that there is an even deeper issue? Also, which SIM card numbers are you talking about? Thank you, my friend.

Mufrad,
I completely changed the IMEI to a clean one because, apparently, when I traded for the Note 5 (I am in Bolivia, and that's what people do here), the original IMEI was put on the blacklist. So, now I have a completely different IMEI that is clean (unreported), but I do not have any network access at all - furthermore, when I access the menu using *#0011#, it says "IMEI Status: NG" under IMEI Status. I'm not sure if it's a software problem? I have a friend looking at the phone, but I do not have any idea how it's going because he still hasn't been able to fix it.

When my son switched from an iphone to Android we had to call AT&T and give them those numbers before it worked. I had an Xperia phone that I had to do the same with. There are apps that can read your sim card number. It should also be printed on your sim card.

Hi. I am a complete noob when it comes to rooting Android.
**************************UPDATE************************************************
THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN SOLVED. PLEASE SCROLL TO POST #89 ON PAGE 9 TO SEE THE SOLUTION.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77950935&postcount=89
***************************************************************************************************
I bought an *unlocked* Samsung Note 9 N960F/DS (Exynos 9810) international phone from a seller on ebay brand new and sealed. Received the phone yesterday (10/19/2018) and popped my working existing sim card from my iphone 6 with T-mobile into the new phone and it *worked*.........except no wifi calling.
Since my house has terrible reception I really do need wifi calling in order to receive calls (I use Skype for outbound). I decided to root and install Detonator (tekhd) even though I've never done this before. Somewhere along the line I messed up and installed the latest LUX ROM because I misred Tekhd's guide on Detonator (my fault).
Here's where I stand now: I found a stock ROM for this model (N960F/DS) and reinstalled it using Odin3 v3.13.1.
After a successful flash when I insert my working T-mobile sim I get "SIM network PIN blocked. Enter SIM network PUK."
Here the Service Provider SW shows XEU/XEU,XEU/MYM
I get the *same* message when I insert a spare T-mobile sim I happened to have that was confirmed as available with T-mobile customer service. If I take the working sim out and put it back into the other phone it works without a problem. I think that rules out the sim cards having issues.
Earlier when I had the phone rooted and Detonator installed (and working), I got a different message when I inserted the SIM:
Network Lock: This device can be remotely unlocked if eligible.
Please use the "Device Unlock" application to unlock the device.
Make sure the device has an internet connectivity to use the "Device Unlock application".
Here the Service Provider SW showed TMB/TMB/MYM.
I tried looking for a T-mobile Unlock App apk to download but could not find a recent one. I would get a "Device not supported" error. It seems T-mobile has taken it off the Playstore.
Now, I can't install a stock USA ROM from T-mobile because those ROMS are only for the Snapdragon versions and I have the Exynos chip. I was given two unlock codes over the phone with T-mobile customer service to try and unlock the Pin lock but they both did not work.
Do you think an unlock service will be able to provide me with a valid "Sim Network PUK" code? I'm happy to pay for the service if I can just get the damn phone working. I've spent almost $770 on this phone and in hindsight should just have gotten the T-mobile branded phone for $100 more. I'm really at a loss as to what I can do to rectify this situation.
Also in hindsight I should have done more research before purchasing the phone and also should have backed up my partition in TWRP........You live and you learn.
The irony here is that I had an unlocked phone.....and now it has somehow gotten locked.........by the carrier whose SIM card is working perfectly fine......in a different phone. The device was paid in full btw.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

this is a first. I always though once the region lock was lifted it couldn't be relocked( to me it seems to be a region lock issue, which if it is you need to make a 5 min call on region soil... good luck)
anyways check on your box there is a sticker with model and serial . find what carrier or region its from and grab that firmware and flash it. might want to factory wipe everything (including cache) in the recovery before booting it up indownlaod mode to do Odin flash.
also remove sim before wiping/ flashing, let it boot and do the initial setup then insert sim.

I did wipe and reinstall the stock rom with the sim removed. The strange thing is..........I get the same message if I insert an old, blank, unused t-mobile sim into the device. Plus the working sim works fine in my old phone. So how could it be that the sim is locked?
There is nothing on the box that says anything about a carrier. This was advertised and sold as a factory unlocked phone which by all indications it does seem to be. The only thing on the box that says anything about country is that it was manufactured in vietnam.

did you flash one of these?
these should be the original firmware U1 and the lates U2 which if you flash wint be able to downgrade bootloader but shouldn't be causing rhe sim lock issue.
flash U1 first and see if it fixes your issue. then try the October U2 just for fun
you can also download it using samfirm tool
enter 960F and MYM in settings it should also be a faster download then the web links

My baseband version currently shows N960FXXU2ARH7 and Service Provider SW Ver. shows XEU/XEU, XEU/MYM. I will try loading U1 first and see what happens.

ok so it's too late for U1 . ure phone is already on U2 latest bootloader. so flash the October build
but be sure to wipe all with no sim before flashing
and in Odin fill in all slots and for csc use CSC but not HOME csc file.
good luck

yeah might as well use tarp. and erase all. but before, did you sift through internal s or ext s for an efs backup that detonator might have made automatically?
check for a folder called .backup and or for a file like:
efs_backup.img.gz
efs_backup.img
or anything similar

No, but I did download Dr. Ketan's tool to make an efs backup. But that was way later in the process....so it wasn't the original efs directory......It was after I flashed my current "stock" rom. I'm going to try and find another site to download since that one will take 2 days on slow speed......
Btw what does the ZBD mean? MYM I figured is Myanmar......

I am using Samfirm and found this;
Model: N960F
Region: MYM
File: N960FXXU2ARJ1/N960FOXM2ARJ1/N960FXXU2ARJ1/N960FXXU2ARJ1
Verions: N960F_1_20181001162540_w0h1lv73k8_fac.zip.enc4
If Install this ROM, does this mean my phone will be region locked to MYM again? I'm definitely confused on this......
