LineageOS accesses Google Internet sites without our knowledge - Moto G7 Plus Questions & Answers

The reason I chose to purchase a new phone was to have the ability to install LineageOS, which to my research and knowledge had an option to be installed with no Google ANYTHING. My goal was to have no Google apps or anything else embedded in the OS referring to Google or linking or accessing any Google sites over the Internet.
I have a wireless router that can perform packet inspection. After turning on the phone and enabling WiFi access in Lineage OS 12-29, these 3 sites are hit over the internet without me even opening a single application including the Jelly Browser.
www.google.com (Why?)
connectivitycheck.gstatic.com (Google Domain, for internet connectivity checking)
1.android.pool.ntp.org (Network Time Protocol project)
WHY IS THIS???? I understand that the WiFi utility program probably has code embedded to determine if connectivity past the router through to the Internet was successful, but why www.google.com? and connectivitycheck.gstatic.com, which is a Google owned domain. Can LineageOS developers programming LineageOS AOSP change the sites to check for Internet connectivity with an opensource group not related to Google? Or does anyone know of a config file where these domains can be changed? Also, the Jelly Browser starts off with the default search provider of Google.com. This should also be changed.

[Q] University proxy problems

Hi all.
Got my SGS a couple of weeks ago, and (almost) all is great.
I spend most of my time inside the university (I live on campus) and all of the web traffic here passes through a proxy server. Problem is - some of the apps (including the Market) just can't see the connection.
I have (of course) the right Advanced Network Settings (proxy server and port), and this sorts out some of the apps (like the default browser and gmail app), but the market is unreachable, and FB app (for example) can't access the net as well.
Some more data:
I'm running 2.1.
There is no problem to access these sites using a desktop/laptop computer.
I don't use 3G, relying only on WiFi.
Proxy server has no authentication.
Everything works perfectly whenever I leave campus.
Is there anything I can do?
Would this issue be resolved in the (hopefully) forthcoming 2.2 upgrade?
Thanks!
Hey do you have to log in to go online. At my past college and my current uni all android phones where you had to log in via the browser didn't work. However my friend with a Desire with 2.2 can log in, this maybe a wild guess but maybe the updated browser allows for the log in procedures to work, im not sure what its written in, javascript, php, asp no idea but that's my guess> Ive got the same problem if you get it to work let me know and if you know someone with froyo can you ask them to try or maybe its just with newer HTC phones.
Thanks for the reply.
I don't need to log in, there's no authentication, and still there's no access.
It feels like a dodgy implementation of the proxy settings in Android, and I really hope they fix it in 2.2, because it makes my phone really crippled.
Yer I really hope so to on our network their is no pass to access
its completely open but you have to log in via the browser
A quick update.
Just installed a localized (hebrew) version of Froyo (JHJP4 if it interests someone).
I can't comment on anything else at the moment, but the proxy problems are NOT solved. Still can't access the market...

[Q] Global Proxy Settings for wifi networks.

Hello there,
As we all know our Samsung Device does support Proxy Setting for wifi networks but it only works for default android browser. Is there any way that I can use the Internet behind the proxy setting through out the phone (including google maps, gTalk, etc etc) ?? Has anyone here has done it?? I have tried many apps like ASProxy, Transparent Proxy, ProxyDroid, Http Proxy Settings but none of them worked.
Secondly what is iptable module?? does our phone Samsung Galaxy S I9003 has that iptable module? I have froyo XWKB1 firmware. Some of the apps require iptable module to be on the phone.
Many people claim that they are able to use pxoxy setting through out the phone with all those third party apps but not me. Please do reply
Type opera:config in opera mobile url(not in opera mini)
You will find lots of options there including proxy. But i never used it.
BTW this is not development related question.
Sent from my GT-I9003 using Tapatalk
sorry for that, this is only forum for I9003 and I am depressed for that. I dont want peoples who own different phone answering this because I have searched hundreds of forums and blogs, those people claim that they are able to use Proxy Setting with the help of third party apps but not me ... This is only forum where all the I9003 owners hang out. Yes The method that you specified also works. I am also using it but I want to use android market, gTalk, Maps and all the apps.
Greetings
Root your phone and use proxydroid, that thing works globally, has context sensitive profiles and other features...
Oh! yeah! I have rootem my phone deodexed, applied CWM for XWKB1 also but that application didnot work for me. I have a query, have you tried the proxy settings in galaxy i9003 itself or any other phone? the proxy of my college is 192.168.1.100 and port is 3128 but I am not able to run it through out the phone.

I use this program on this phone and my Galaxy Tab successfully with the proxy server at my work place. I use XXKPH with CWM by Skin and root through CWM method using leo's zip. You should be able to find these around here if you want to replicate my config.

Have you tried Orbot? It's not exactly what you want but it's a tor proxy :
Orbot is an application that allows mobile phone users to access the web, instant messaging and email without being monitored or blocked by their mobile internet service provider. Orbot brings the features and functionality of Tor to the Android mobile operating system.
Orbot contains Tor, libevent and privoxy. Orbot provides a local HTTP proxy and the standard SOCKS4A/SOCKS5 proxy interfaces into the Tor network. Orbot has the ability to transparently torify all of the TCP traffic on your Android device when it has the correct permissions and system libraries.

I'm almost sure we have this module in our kernel.
DroidWall is a famous firewall for Android which configure iptable on device, allowing or not selected apps to access network, try it
Solution for global proxy problem on Android devices
Hi all,
I found a setting that worked on my device. I believe it will work for almost all other devices running at last Android 3.3 as this is a requirement for the app SandroProxy. Note that no rooting of the device is required. Try the following steps;
Install SandroProxy
Add your WiFi authentication parameters to SandroProxy. Details such as the domain, user name, proxy address and password.
On your WiFi setting, long press on the SSID and select the "Modify network config". This can be found under Settings>Wifi>[SSID]
Under proxy, type "localhost"
Under port, input the port beign used by SandroProxy, default is "8008"
Thats is
Enjoy

wht is that how to use it????
well..
it is in the Wireless settings section. i guess you should use L2 IPSec.
briefly: have to set up a VPN server/connection point at home or wherever, and you'll connect to that from anywhere given that there's an open outbound port to the internet where you are currently. than a connection will be built up creating a "tunnel" through which your packets will be transferred to the VPN host where itt could be routed and NAT-ed to the internet unrestricted.
adding IPSec or other methods of encryptions will make your connection secure.
i've never tried it on my phone but since its based on linux it must be the same way as at desktop system.
you should check documents and howtos on the internet and check for apps at Market if the androids builtin is not satisfying!

Does anyone know of a WP 8/8.1 dyndns updater?

Here is my scenario:
I have several locations that expose resources to over the public network for the purpose of monitoring (cameras, networks, etc.).
I secure access using multiple layers. In addition to the standard user name and login, I also do a reverse DNS check on my firewall to make sure the traffic is coming from either another one of my locations or my mobile phone. To accomplish this on my phone, I would need a dynamic DNS update client for my phone.
I know I can accomplish this by visiting the website and forcing an update, but I would rather have it automated.
Thanks in advance for your help,
Mike
The protocol isn't very complicated, so you could whip up such an app pretty easily if there isn't already one in the store. On the other hand, it's not the kind of thing most people would find useful. Even leaving aside the fact that Dyn just killed their free accounts, it's usually aimed at servers (game servers, remote desktop/ssh servers, VPN servers, home web servers, etc.) and one doesn't generally run a server on their phone.

simulate internet connection on raspberry to chromecast

Dear community,
I have just setup a raspberry PI as a WIFI Router and connected the chromecast to the cretaed network. Unfortunately i had to realize that it will work
only with an active internet connection. I'm running a Plex server on the raspberry and my intention is to use the PI in combination with the Chromecast while traveling. Especially when there is no intenet available. Given the fact that the chromecast firmware is on the most current level a root is not going to work. I have found a very interesting article explaining the basics of the rCast mod and wondering whether it would be possible to simulate a working internet connection on the raspberry.
– CAST_SHELL AND NET_MGR MAKES HTTP REQUESTS TO GOOGLE SERVERS. I HAVE PATCHED THOSE BINARIES SO THEY MAKE REQUESTS TO THE LOCAL WEB SERVER INSTEAD.
– THE DEVICE MAKE A DNS LOOKUP SENT TO SERVER 8.8.8.8. I HAVE WORKED AROUND THAT BY CREATING AN ALIAS FOR 8.8.8.8 ON THE LOCAL HOST AND RUN A DNS SERVER.
– THE DEVICE WILL NOT FINISH BOOTING UNTIL IT HAS RECEIVED AN UPDATED TIME FROM POOL.NTP.ORG. THIS IS FIXED BY ADDING POOL.NTP.ORG AS 127.0.0.1 IN THE HOSTS FILE, AND LOCALLY RUNNING A SNTP SERVER.
THOSE WORKAROUNDS WILL LET THE DEVICE START UP NORMALLY EVEN WHEN NETWORK IS MISSING.
Does anyone have already experience in this kind of work or could help me to figure if this could work.
Many Thanks
