I was setting my P20 Pro up as a spare phone today and when I went to setup fingerprint scanning, the option to do it was no longer there (Biometrics and password section). I checked out the Security and Privacy settings just to be sure, and it does look as if fingerprint scanning is not available anymore. The home button function doesn't work either.
I've seen people complaining that this has happened with other Huawei phones, usually after a software update. Huawei recommends restarting and resetting the phone to see if this fixes it, but it doesn't on mine.
Has anyone else had this problem with the P20 Pro, or any other Huawei fingerprint scanner equipped phone? Does it seem to be a hardware or software issue? What fixes are there?

Hi,
Recently the fingerprint scanner on my Huawei P20 Pro has stopped working. I have tried to resetting the settings and deleting the current fingerprint but it does not seem to work.
Every so often the fingerprint scanner vibrates without any contact.
Problems seem to have started after the latest software update. Does anyone have suggestions of how I could fix this issue?
Thanks.
I have the same issue. Fingerprint scanner is not working. Everything else seems to be ok. Any solutions that don't involve a hard reset?
Hello.
I replace screen on my P30 pro on official Ukraine Huawei Service, but after this fingerprint in screen didint work.
If I try add new fingerprint phone say error "Registration error".
Official service cant solve this problem.
Please let me know why need for solve problem? Thank you
Sounds to me like Huawei have done exactly the same as apple have done and used and encryption method to lock the specific reader to the board. I havnt had a p30 Pro or p30 apart yet but I belive other phones with in screen finger prints can be swapped

I have so similar problem. Just disable authentification at all (even PIN, FaceId, others). Then turn on PIN and add new fingerprints. Worked for me.

I got p30 screen replaced with original support pack and can't get fingerprint to work.
Any more ideas?
Cheers
Need calibration. Used to work for a huawei repair centre but never see this problem.
In huawe centre they have an app to calibrate the fingerprint
In my opinion the fingerprint sensor was working great in version 9.1.0.161 but since the latest update the quality of detection has decreased.
Can anyone confirm this?
Not confirm.
Works better for me

Did you enable dc dimming and rescan?
Works way faster on 178
Rescan your fingers. I find it better.
For me it works double faster than before. As suggestet by Huawei, you should rescan fingerprints.
I got the update today, rescanned my fingers and it works twice as fast then before. If you did not rescanned your fingers - do it - might be a solution
Did you rescan fingerprints? It literally says to do so in the change log.
I also find that .178 has made my fingerprint unlocking feature even better.
In fact, even better than before but I did have to re-register my fingerprints.
Hi,
I'm having a problem with my Galaxy Note 9. I just recently updated to the latest firmware which is N960FXXS5DTE2 Security
Patch 1 May 2020 and noticed that when my phone is locked, the fingerprint sensor is acting on its own. Then I get a message saying there have been 5 or more attempts to unlock the device. I tried a factory reset, still the same and also tried the sensor test which gave a PASS to all the tests.
Is it a software glitch? Anyone has this problem also?
IDK if this will help but try turning off Battery Optimization for the Samsung Biometric app. (Forgot exact app name, its something like that). I was having an issue with mine and doing this fixed it but can't guarantee it will work for you.
already disabled most of the optimizations but the fingerprint scanner acts on its own constantly. You have another suggestion?
Hello,
I havent' posted anything here in years, so I'm out of touch with the latest on this forum. Ever since I got my Note 8 (International unlocked dual-SIM model), my GPS stopped working after the first week. I know this is a Samsung thing, so I lived with it.
Now my accelerometer stopped working mysteriously, and I'm already on the latest firmware which should have fixed the GPS issue (but it didn't).
When I do the hardware test (*#0*# from the dial screen) it shows no movement in the roll, pitch or yaw axis and the same for the magnetometer). I've done numerous reboots, and toggles of the auto-rotate feature of the phone, but the issue is still the same. Other than a factory reset, what other troubleshooting steps can I take?
Perhaps there is a toggle in Developer Options or in Quick Settings that you accidentally switched?
I'm saying this because Stock Android 12 has a "Sensors off"-QS Toggle that disables sensors on the phone ^^
But... I don't remember the Galaxy Note 8's software having such a button...but just throwing this out there
Thanks for your reply. I had checked for such an option. I even disabled Developer Options altogether.
I did the Samsung hardware test (*#0*#), and neither the accelerometer nor the compass moved.
