Hey,
I'm planning on getting one of the S21 series phones. Unfortunately, I use MST a lot and it's sad that Samsung removed the feature from a lot of regions.
However, some regions still do have MST support for the S21 series but there isn't a list out there of which regions have and which don't.
I've spent the last few days trying to figure this out but haven't gotten far.
An easy way to know if your S21 has MST is by dialling *#0*# , which shoul dopen up a screen with multiple options inside of a grid, If one of the options is "MST Test", it means the device is equipped with MST.
(Note: You'll need to press the back button 2-3 times to exit after dialing *#0*# )
After contacting Samsung support across different countries (using the live chat feature), this is what I've come up with:
Regions that support MST for S21 Series:
1. South Korea
Regions that don't support MST for S21 Series:
1. North America (US/Canada)
2. GCC
3. UK, France, Spain
4. India
5. Singapore
6. Taiwan
7. Hong Kong
8. Germany (Source: corwin_amber)
Regions I'm confused about:
Malaysia (The Samsung Pay rep told me the S21 series supports MST, but when I contacted live chat using "mobile phone" category the rep told me it doesn't)
I'd be extremely thankful to all of you if you could help expand this list and provide some information.
German S21U (DBT): NO MST Test in *#0*# available.
F*#$ samsung !
i just tried to use Samsung Pay earlier at a grocery store, the credit reader has a Apply Pay sticker on it.
But when i tap my phone on it, nothing happen. the store must have disabled NFC or something.
if freaking Samsung leave MST on, it will mostly works.
Mst is not longer. F samsung

Yeah, that's why I'm bummed about it, there was no rationale behind Samsung doing this, they can claim there is widespread NFC adoption but having a backup in MST is always beneficial.

Does that mean that every variant technically is capable of producing an MST signal through its hardware? I assume they didn't just add that hardware option to the South Korean model
They can see how many people were using it and not enough were to consider adding it again.

just like nobody charging their note10 or s20 at 45w so they switched back to 25w ?
and you telling me there's more people getting their phone wet or throwing in the water than using mst ? cus the phone is waterproof.
the difference between 45 and 25 watt charging between the s20 and the s21 is 10 mins
and I can sell water resistant to a lot of people without having to do a lot of work or materials other than using stronger tape because people go out in the rain or drop their phone in the toilet.
what i cant sell them is this complicated idea of explaining mst to them and why its somehow easier than just pulling your card out and it also requires hardware and software which costs more than just some strong tape

did you just come out of a cave?
mst been around like 5-6 years ago !
do you still explain to people what is a Microwave ?
I'm sure everyone is boycotting them and refuse to buy the phone cus it's 20$ more cus of MST !
the 60 year old microwave that just comes with kitchens? to something thats barely 5 years old and only came with flagship phones that not everyone bought? thats your comparison?
of course all 20 people are boycotting samsung.
still not coming back though.
This is a community, we are here to help not to insult. If you are not able to help just ignore the ppl and move on. If you don't want to do that neither then just say "go to Google"
I think an interesting repercussion of Samsung removing MST that a lot of people are overlooking is the floor limit imposed on NFC transactions that isn't typically imposed on MST transactions.
For example, there is no explicit upper limit for transactions using MST in India (apart from the one set by you or the bank), however NFC transactions are limited to INR 2,000 (Approximately 28 USD).
Similarly, I believe in some countries limits are imposed by the POS terminals.
For example, from Samsung Pay Singapore ( https://www.samsung.com/sg/samsungpay/ )
^ Most NFC terminals currently accept payments up to $100, while there is no limit on payment transactions via MST terminals (subject to a cardholder's credit card limit)
I think if youre gonna be spending over 100 dollars it wouldnt be a quick sale anyway
also if your card was stolen, theres no id check since you just tap it everywhere

Agree, but then, it would also mean you couldn't use Samsung Pay for a lot of transactions. [MST was removed with the thought that NFC now has widespread adoption, but the fact that MST didn't have floor limits while NFC does is a bummer]

recall of "made in china" ATK branded battery in galaxy tab (affect non-korean too?)
About two months ago my tab died. I'm a foreigner in korea so I went down to my local samsung electronics service centre (sec.co.kr). After talking shop with the service engineer he opened up that there was a silent recall on all made in china "ATK" prefixed model number batteries which I had. The battery was tossed in the trash can showing there is NO returns / credit (RA) arrangement with the chinese manufacturing contractor or the relationship had gone sour, but this is just speculation on my part.
The replacement battery is a korean model that seems to have diminished capacity after the wear-in period (like others have reported). It is well known that samsung, hyundai and other korean conglomerates sell second class products to its own countryfolk whilst only supplying top notch components on export orders. Let's test this theory. How many of you who dared to open your galaxy tab export models have chinese made batteries?
I kept a log of battery performance under my new and former batteries.

you'll be surprise that CHINA now the only country that made the original stuff and not to forgot the FACT that its also the #1 country who made the fake stuff
1- Cheap workers ...
2- ELECTRONIC Stuff are cheap
3- Intelligent Country
China now rolling the world by ELEC
Lets all hail China the land of fake brand knockoffs. They probably mixed up the genuine and fake batches with their OEM. Halarious! Go to china and try to buy a genuine electronic replacement battery or flash memory. Odds are you are buying a ghost shift fake. If china is so good why don't they design their own products like the koreans do. Their "dragon" mips knockoff cpu is a slow start.
Seriously guys. Its big news when a major handset is affected by a faulty component, or at least it was for the iphone 4. Now to assertain if this recall is for korean inferior product for domestic consumption with easy access to service facilities or their chinese cost cutting measure didn't pay dividends globally. Anyone got ATK branded batteries in overseas tabs? That's the issue here not how the chinese socialists peg their yuan to the us dollar to undermine the us manufacturing base (aka war machine) to overtake america as a super power. Reminds me of australia selling steal and iron ore to the japanese before it came back as bombs on darwin.

Im surprised there is no feedback. Someone PM rotohammer and ask him in the tabs he opened up to get JTAG working did he see a made in China ATK model battery. I used to work tec support for the now defunct daewoo electronics and it is no secret in the industry that OEMs will not own up to a product recall publically if they can help it and clean up the mess through their affiliated (or in house in Korea) service centres.
In case you dont yet get my drift this could be as big a scandal as the iphone 4 ariel defect that samsung capitalized on in the UK giving free galaxy S es to unhappy iphone users willing to blog their complaints online.
Does your tab have a defective battery? After 3-9 months your phone could refuse to start from a cold boot if defective and have very limited capacity compared to quality lithium-ion batteries. Samsung got screwed by their chinese subcontractor and don't want to clean up the mess if they can help it by keeping the userbase in the dark until they are all out of warranty.
That's why some of you need to check your battery model - especially early adopters.

Yeah lets just ignore him. The issue here is with all galaxy tab "7 models. The issue is not chinese people (like kosh) but the products they make more inexpensive through their lower wages and low exchange rate pegged to the dollar that was even too cost compeditive for samsung to refuse. I guess samsung has to competete with the iphone that's made under contact by Foxconn who's workers are committing suacide in droves (including R&D staff) according to local news reports. Yes I once lived in china.
Surey a few xda developers have seen a galaxy tab with it's back cover removed! Does the battery's model number have "ATK" marked on it and the infamous words "MADE IN CHINA"? If so I'm telling you your battery is faulty and there is a recall on it in Korea

I purchased a Note 4 from T-Mobile's website. The back of the sleeve states Printed in USA. And the box states Printed in the USA. Box Made in Mexico. Also, the Android logo on the back of the box looks different from the box made in Vietnam. According to the package, the phone was packaged / manufactured 12/12/2014.
Somethings not ringing here. From all the unboxing videos of the T-Mobile Note 4 I came across online and in-store, they all state Printed in Vietnam on the back of the box.
Is this a repackaged Note 4?
Would greatly appreciate clarification here. Thanks

Actual Manufacturing Date is set to December 9th, 2014. I noticed the Charger Connect count is '3' and Headset Connect Counter is '6'. But I never plugged in the charger yet; I just got the phone. What gives?
Also, I have the latest firmware preinstalled. I didn't have to perform any updates out of the box.
Now seriously, what gives, the count is more than '1'. What is this suppose to indicate. This is a legality issue. How is it that no one has addressed this yet.
Whats also funny is that the plastics that conceal the condition of the phone; only one side of the phone is covered in plastic, all other three sides are not and were exposed upon opening the seals of the box. I found a couple of micro-scratches in the bottom part of the metallic edges
Had a quality chat with Samsung just now. It appears the counter is set by the quality control checks at the manufacturing facility.
The ultimate question now is do the carriers have software to over-ride the build-date of a device?
Does the phone work well? Are you happy with the performance and style and so on? If the answer is yes, then why are you worried about it? IMHO you must have bigger fish to fry. Besides; if your here, you most likely mod your phone so a warranty is irrelevant.
I know you wouldn't try and return your phone and hide that you have been modifying it. I mean based on your reaction to t-mo, I doubt you would do that to them.
Oh and mine was printed in Vietnam.
I bet this is a refurbished phone.
Flashed all nicely at a T-Mobile warehouse and sent out to the stores would be my guess.
Did Samsung verify it's authenticity for you?
Doesn't matter it's still a note 4
Samsung does verify its authenticity on its own website. Showing December 11, 2014 (after inputting IMEI #)
Box label shows December 12, 2014
Phone Info * SAMSUNG Shows December 9th, 2014
Samsung explained me the logistics last night. Carriers certain quantity of phones from Samsung to meet demands--> Carrier receive phone orders in bulk, all in one box--> and repackages them into their own Carrier Boxes. Take AT&T for example, the worst of them all. Whereas T-Mobile, Sprint, and Verizon play along by copying the design of the original Samsung boxes and uses cheap labor to print the boxes at the country of manufacture of their ordered devices. Who knows, your devices may very well be treated the same as well.
But the question remains, DO THE CARRIERS HAVE THE ABILITY TO OVERRIDE THE MANUFACTURING DATES ON THE PHONES? IF DO, THIS IS UNETHICAL.
T-Mobile most likely signed cheap labor in Vietnam to print on empty light brown boxes and had them shipped to the states for repackaging the phones. After a certain quantity, decided it would be best to print them within the states to save on logistical import fees, fair enough.
I myself have seen the white and blue boxes that Samsung was referring to. I've seen them in Service Centers overseas in Asia.
But Carriers are just plainly insane.

The reason I make a big deal about this is really because of the amount we all pay. We all are paying a premium for these devices (for the most part) and deserve the right thing. Otherwise, I'd be more than happy to pay $200max for the device I received, not the whooping $750 (oh and the taxes are extra well).
Dude you have a phone that works. That is all you need. You rooted the phone isn't that unethical . Just be happy it works for you and you have no major issues with it.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
But I haven't rooted the phone yet. And besides, it is our right to do whatever we want with the devices, as long as we don't brick it.
I mean, how many customers are even aware of the Diagnostic Code *#0*# to check their devices for defects upon receiving the device; Verizon disables this command, which is insane.
Reality Check, you don't get what you pay for.
A Samsung rep once told me, "I'm not the average consumer" Uh-Oh

Yes it is your phone once it paid in full. If you did payments it not yours till us pay that last bill.
So either way it is a working device free of issues and bugs.

Mine has the same hardware revision as well, but doesn't have much of the issues others have reported, such as the fingerprint scanner and camera focus issues. The only issue is the purple tint on the left side of the display and a couple of microscratches on the metal edges (probably the way it way handled during the handling process at the warehouse); I didn't see all four sides covered in plastic wrap.

It would be interesting to get John Legere's response to this matter as well. This is not a uncarrier move.

I've been able to trick a few gas stations, I put in either my Drivers license or my credit card in backwards then pull it out quick and immediately put your phone up to the pump.
If you are gonna do that, why not just use a credit card? Seems like twice as many steps for the same result.

Points. Anyway, I've noticed that places that fail with the note 8...works with the Gear s3. Weird.
There are some retailers that will reject Samsung pay even if there is no technical reason to do so, should work does not mean it will work. I know off the top of my head Costco does not allow Samsung pay using MST (though I have not come across a Costco that has NFC).
At issue might be that if the retailer has chip and pin setup, then it will outright reject MST transactions if the card being used supports chip and pin.
I also suspect, and this is pure conjecture on my behalf, it has something to do with the tokenization and the inability to track spending patterns (if i recall gas stations are highly susceptible to false positive that anti-fraudulent algorithm detection uses) .

I thought it was the chip Samsung and capital one say it's not. It's really not that big of a deal that it don't work I cross the on as that don't out of my places to shop. If I can get points for purchasing stuff I already was going to purchase for later to get 100 dollar gift cards 6 months later I'm going to do it.
Wish wish there was a way to know where it works and what don't I deal embarrassed when it gets declined
I use American Express and it works pretty much everywhere. But in NY it's basically a law to have Android/Apple/ and samsung pay support in every store. I use both forms of Samsung pay and it works basically every time. I'll give Android pay a shot sometime but not for a little while mainly because Samsung pays little swipe up for debit card use is awesome. Also I should say that in my experience (earlier today at a dollar general) I was having issues with the mst. But I found out it was due to placement. Also my note 8 froze the cashier computer so we had to reboot the computer and try it and it all worked great. So if you have issues just see if it's a placement issue.
Hi everyone,
I'm due to upgrade my phone and really keen on the note 9 but to buy in the UK it is costly. I'm looking at buying from the EU but there's a variety of model types with subtle differences in bands.
Please would someone be able to advise me whether for example N9600 or N960FD would be fully compatible with the UK networks?
The N9600 appears to be fully compatible with UK bands but I'm new to buying non UK phones.
Plus if they're both compatible, would one be better than the other?
Thanks in advance

Hey mate, sorry I think I must have chucked the voucher away with the delivery box and other junk
Have a look on www1.techinthebasket.com - I picked up my previous Note 8 SM-N950F/DS for £633 back in October last year. It was a Taiwan model (BRI) but picked up XEU / BTU CSC when I put my O2 SIM in it and it worked flawlessly. They have Note 9's in now for good prices as well. They only accept PayPal so you're covered. I also picked up a Surface Pro 4 from them a couple of years ago and saved over £200. Well worth a try.

Ah, looks like they've only got the Snapdragon version in at the moment - £880 for the SD 512GB/8GB and £629 to £679 dependant on colour for the SD 128GB/6GB is still pretty damn good. Keep checking though, they did have the Exynos versions in for around the same price a few days ago...
Really good prices.
The only thing that's holding me back is to wait for the pixel 3xl. If some of the rumours are true about the Iarge screen, then I might go pixel, but other say it's only 6.1" and has a notch which renders it even smaller when watching film properly.
Thanks for the input so far. Note 9 is in number one spot, just need to compare to the pixel to firm up the choice
The N9600 probably won't work with some UK Cell Providers. You are better off getting the N960FD as that is a GSM device.

After reading the listing it doesn’t state anything about It having a year warranty with them instead they’ll only replace if the device is faulty within the first 30 days.... risky?!! ? .... Just checked again it doesn’t come with any warranty.... ?
Plus if you use the CODE: PERKS on eBay you get a further £50 off... Very tempting stuff
If the pixel 3xl is a bit underwhelming, I'd rather buy a note 9 with a warranty even if it costs more. Having had LG phone issues, I don't want the risk

Oh well haha, has anyone in the world ever actually needed a warranty? I certainly haven't ? It's like insurance, even if you try to claim on it, the odds of them paying out to you are so slim it's hardly worth bothering. It's also another price you pay for getting something significantly cheaper than in your own country, right now they're selling that phone over £200 cheaper than anywhere in this country, if you're so worried, take that 200 and buy insurance, or open a premium bank account for like £11 a month that offers you full mobile phone insurance like my girlfriend has, she can essentially just launch her phone at the wall and they'll pay out for a replacement ?

Believe it or not i had an issue with my S8 plus (Snapdragon 835 variant) a year ago (screen issue) used it for about 8 months, it took about a month to resolve but ended up getting a refund instead lol
I know what your saying, looks like I'll just go with WondaMobile instead of eBay, that way my mind will be at ease
Btw hows your battery life on your model? I'm still undecided whether to go with the SD 845 or Exynos 9810.. I had the S9 plus with the 9810 and the battery life wasn't great (3.5hr SOT) with 15-16hrs usage consistently, ended up selling it to my bro ?
I broke my screen while backpacking across Europe. After going to Samsung repair center in Prague and being told its an American phone and we don't fix them. I tried again in Milan. Called USA tech support 4 times only to be told send it to Texas to be repaired. Wonderful phone just don't drop it and if you do don't expect it to be repaired if you are not in the United States. Mayorly disappointed
Plenty of repair centres, including the ones that come to your home in the UK. I can't imagine the screen is any different between US and Euro?
I think it may have to do with Samsung Europe doing everything to discourage people from importing the better (SD vs Exynos) and cheaper phones from USA...

Samsung told me on 3 different call the phone is not fixable in Europe. I hav to send it to the service center in Irving Texas. And they don't care that i an out a $1500 phone while on vacation. They are a **** company when it comes to service. They hung up on me 4 times and when i tried to give them a 1 out of 5 on the automated phone review I was told the system didn't understand my response then thanked me and hung up. That one way to keep your customer reviews high.
Damn this sucks a lot...

Its to do with both companies being different entities and having different warranties. Likewise a phone from Europe would not be accepted in the USA.
Are you sure this is a Samsung problem? As far as I know all phone warranties are not international. For example the iPhone warranty specifies the countries in which it is valid, and indeed America and Europe are not put together.
I absolutely believe this is more to do with the motherboards not being the same. I don't believe the S888 and the E2100 have the exact same die/footprint. Parts comparison seem to show different size slots for components near the earpiece. I just believe the people you had on the phone couldn't tell you "exactly why", as most of the time, they don't have the knowledge.

That half makes sense. The different SoC would mean a potentially different layout and slight changes in any exterior components. Normally, companies would try to standardise as many parts as possible but since there's only 2 SoCs then that only two variations which is likely acceptable to Samsung. I wish a had a EU and US variety of any Samsung phone to check this.
The call centre people won't have any idea on why this restriction exist. They are either trained to state it or are following a diagnostics script on the computer and will quote only what that tells them. Even if they had any knowledge, they wouldn't be able to divert from the official line or they will be in trouble.
I am sorry about your phone, that's a tough spot to be in.
If I were you, I'd buy a cheapo used phone wherever you can and just fix the s21 Ultra when you get home.

Service is a word that gets thrown around a lot and has lost its meaning. I take the word very seriously. While the quality of products themselves, all products, has ebbed & flowed over the years, service is in decline everywhere and for me, it began here in the US. Now of course I've noticed it across many other countries - as an aside, particularly China. The quality of support is completely conducive to preferred/main customer base (higher), to how badly you need the service (lower), to diversity (lower), to how well the product has sold that you're requesting service for (much lower). So with the latter in particular, Samsung sells a million of these things and doesn't give a rat's ass who needs help 9 of 10 times I'd wager. These companies get so big that they go through a phase where they really don't think a whole lot about losing customers.
Want to get an idea of the TOTAL loss of service? Spend time in the can. A dear friend of mine did and the hoops she had to go through to receive calls from me, get my commissary contributions, even get a pair of socks. Experiencing that on either end REALLY tweaks your barometer for how you view service both good and bad.
Amazon is a company I really try and avoid, but their return policy is a cinch. I suppose this is good "service" but I wouldn't call it "service" in a discussion really. For a company that floods their marketplace with black/grey market items & counterfeit reviews/resellers from China, and makes UNGODLY amounts of money off them, they'll take your grey market Plantronics headset right back without question because they know you'll buy something else and they know the sellers are addicted to them. Right now it seems the only corp/person who is billionaire successful & still has a soul is Elon.
Hopefully Samsung gets their act together when they see their margins tip with the s22, maybe Amazon (heh yeah right) will get their crap together when customers jump the Prime ship with these subscription price increases. Or maybe not - Moto/Lenovo lost market share & could STILL care less.
Oh yeah, and stay outta the can.
</rant>
To the OP - best of luck & get home safely!
As your paying Samsung should be able to fix the screen and this is terrible Consumers travel around the world and Samsung should have a International warranty option.
I got my Canadian S9 Screen fixed in NZ by a Third party. Snapdragon model. NZ Samsung will fix out overseas models provided they can but you have to push to do so.
(This might be unique to NZ because of the amount of overseas visitors we have to such a small population.)
This is done to discourage importing. Because in there eyes you costing Samsung NZ a sale.

In my Experience Apple have a International Warranty. I know of Ipads and Phones being replaced provided they are compatible in the New Country that your in under Warranty. With Samsung we are not even talking about a Warranty replacement.

Apple or its Apple Authorised Service Providers will provide warranty service on products that are tendered or presented for service during the Warranty Period, as permitted by law. If the product is portable, meaning that it can operate independently without a power cord, you may obtain warranty service worldwide.
It's the same screen - they should have fixed your device...
I use a SM-G9980 16/512 DS I brought in from Hong Kong - because I wanted to use ROOT and the Qualcomm engineering tools to give myself a WWD with all the 5g bands turned on. I broke its screen while at my residence in the western US, I have been fortunate in my endeavours, so I didn't give a rat's about the Samsung warranty or cost of repair- I cared about how fast my device could be repaired... There were some important documents I needed.
I asked the authorized Samsung Repair center, got the same BS that you did - which is ridiculous... Lots of busisiness people travel the world every day - I'm a global traveler l should receive service wherever I am....
If I have to pay a international charge or subscribe to something, fine. But I don't like being told it can't be fixed when in truth it's just a poorly thought out Samsung policy.
I'm not sending it off to Hong Kong for repair Not willing to accept defeat, I had a replacement screen (A US one not Chinese from HK) purchased on ebay - OEM cost a little short of 300 US Dollars - don't get the barebones one that you have to transfer everything, I extreme urgent overnighted it to my residence, took my device apart so I could see what was inside, and t hen I hired a kid from the repair shop to wrap it up for me - It's the same screen - just makes sense why engineer another screen when it's the most expensive part- make 'em interchangeable but lie about it was the policy... LOL
Go back there an have 'em try to put what they have on your device, and It's going to work.
If they wont' just buy one on e-bay and pay them to attach it - the hardware is compatible. I have my device in had right this second - works like a champ. If I'm wrong I'll pay for the one you wasted that didn't work. 100/dl
Let us know what happens - am I proven correct or do I owe you a reimbursement
L4X$
Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but aren't you the one at fault for trying to get a US version of the phone fixed in Europe?
Your warranty is valid, if you're in the country you purchased it in...
Am I missing something painfully obvious?
