If I buy the unlocked from the Google store will Volte and Wifi calling work? I've known in the passed unlocked ones it didn't.
My google store stock unlocked pixel 3xl works with verizon volte and wifi calling. Visual voicemail does not work, most likely because I am on prepaid.
Do you have to do anything special for Verizon volte and wificalling or will putting a SIM in unlocked pixel 5 just work? I am coming from Pixel2 with volte but not wificalling
You have to enable both separately in the mobile network settings. I don't recall having to do anything on the carrier side.

I was wondering about this, too. I just pre-ordered two unlocked Pixel 5s. I couldn't figure out why anyone would buy the Verizon version vs the unlocked. Is it just to avoid doing configuration like this?

You can just roll it into your monthly bill and pay over 2 years. No further credit checks either. Bootloader will most likely be locked forever though so buyer beware if you are into root. And if you wait until black Friday you can probably get a BOGO deal of some sort.

I went ahead and just preorderd the Pixel 5 Unlocked from google. Hope it works especially wifi calling.
Verizon's HD voice, volte and wifi calling work fine on my wifes unlocked Pixel 3 XL and my unlocked Pixel 4 XL. The unlocked Pixel 5 will probably be the same.
Volte and wifi calling work. Hd calling needs to be activated in your vzw account. Wifi calling works but has to have the radio turned off.
Now for the $64 dollar question: vzw has there own version and it seems Google's version won't do 5G on vzw. Why....?

That is incorrect.
It's still not clear what/if anything will be different between the Google store Pixel 5 and the VZW Pixel 5. Well other than one being carrier locked.

You first. You claimed it.
You're claiming I'm incorrect. Prove me wrong instead of some of some adolescent I asked first, 2s a bigger number, bs.
I did claim it. Now as the prosecutor, it's your job to prove me wrong....
Do you get a conviction or what?

Don't be silly. Do your research and find it. You were wrong what you said that's all this is about. Don't make a bigger deal than it is. No one is attacking you or prosecuting you. If you can prove your statement then I'll say sorry. Done here.

This article was updated on Oct. 6th, hopefully it will answer your question. I can't even imagine that a Google version will not support everything, there would be no point.

The only difference mentioned in that article is with the 4a 5G unlocked vs Verizon edition. No mention of the Verizon Pixel 5.

I don't even know how I got involved with this discussion since I don't have 5G where I live but here I am anyway. So.. they actually do mention the Pixel 5 but as you say not the Verizon branded one. Reason being it doesn't matter whether you buy the P5 from VZW or not, they work identical. Here is the exact quote: "However, all U.S. Pixel 5 (model ID GD1YQ) and Verizon-sold Pixel 4a 5G (G6QU3) units will also be able to access high-band millimeter wave spectrum — supercharged throughput with extremely limited coverage." Which should probably put this part of the thread to rest.
As for wifi calling it was stated a few posts ago that you need to have the radio turned off for wifi calling to work. That is not the case, at least on my Google P4. Wifi calling is working whether or not I have the radio on or off. If the signal is good wifi calling is in effect.
I have a s21 ultra from t mobile in the US and I can't seem to find the option to allow oem unlocking, any reasons?
Yeah, you didn’t buy an unlocked phone, not tied to a vendor such as T-Mobile or Verizon. They sell you the phone at a discount with a contract to use it strictly with their network so of course you can’t unlock the boot loader.
actually none of the usa snapdragon models have it carrier locked or unlocked

Installing third party launchers isn't advisable as they lag...Known android issue
Unlocked P5 doesn't equal rootable P5. Got that. Don't ask how I know...
Sooooooo... How do I find a P5 with an unlockable BL? And is functional with VZW, ATT, and the other nasties?
Google store
AFAIK, buying the Pixel 5 from the Google store doesn't guarantee the bootloader can be unlocked. It's my understanding Google isn't a friendly on this point as they have been. Or I've believed another rumor...

The Google store sells 3 models of Pixel 5. Google, Fi, and Verizon. Only the Verizon model is not unlockable. The other 2 are and probably will always be.
Do you have the model number for the Google version? I assume Fi's going to be the same.
VZW is GD9YQ , which is, for sure, not unlockable. DAHIK

That is incorrect, sorry. I have a Google bought Pixel 5 and my wife got the Verizon model on a trade-in. Both are GD1YQ. From what I can understand the only way to determine is to look at the OEM switch after enabling developer options.
When you purchase the phone it will give you the option of the 3. I bought mine from Google for this very reason. People have bought the unlocked phone from Google, received a non-unlockable phone and sent it back. Easy peasy. Just checked the website again. You want the unlocked version... The other screen is my model
Why are you asking this question again? Were the replies in your other thread not enough?
Can the Google Store Pixel 5 bootloader be unlocked?
I've posted the question: "Can the Google Store Pixel 5 bootloader be unlocked?" in rooting threads and gotten no reply. The model number is the GD1YQ
forum.xda-developers.com
Buy it from the Google store and do not select the Verizon option even if you're going to use it with Verizon service.
Personally I bought from Amazon again not specifying the carrier as Verizon and was able to unlock the bootloader.
I don't know if it's from Verizon or Google unless that particular model is either or.The seller says it was gift, but unlocked.
Ask him for the IMEI. With that you can check if it's a Verizon model. You can also check if it's blacklisted

Gotcha
Should be; the GD1YQ is the United States mmWave + sub6 5G version, while the GTT9Q is Rest of World with sub-6 5G only.
Just make sure it wasn't initially a Verizon phone.
That that is not a Pixel 5a.

OP @AtrixHDMan please update your title to reflect that this device is a Pixel 5, not 5a.
Mod: Please move to P5 Q/A forum
I see a few ebay listings that sell open boxed, locked Pixel 5's at a considerably lower price (around $260ish).
Those phones are locked with AT&T.
How easy/costly is it to unlock those phones? Is it worth buying them to save some money?
Also can you unlock the bootloader in those phones?

The only pixel phones for sure that can be bootloader unlocked are from the Google store. Swappa is a good place for phones.

So a Pixel that is carrier-locked means implies that it also has a locked bootloader?

Yes, you cannot unlock the bootloader if it carrier locked. Most times, not even then (Verizon for sure).
The only carrier I know of that used to allow bootloader unlocks, provided the device was not under lien, is TMobile - and even then, it's questionable as the CSRs generally don't know what you're talking about.
Don't buy smart devices on eBay if you want to be able to unlock the bootloader.
