Apps you can, but like the games which come with obb files, no, it will restore but they won't run.
Also best is subjective, try out roms and see what works for you.

Hi guys and girls!
Hope you are all doing well. Anyway, I rooted yesterday and am running a new kernel (speed mod k13 I believe) anyway. What I am after now, is as the title says, a light, fast rom with decent battery life. I was wondering if anyone had suggestions or experiences and could suggest something. Would a CYANOGEN from work? When I had my galaxy s I was using 7 and found it really good. But are there others?
Cheers!
Oliver

cyanogen will indeed work as will paranoid android charack,s,rocket rom if its lite you want then look for a rom with aroma installer so you can install what you want
Cheers!, really liking the look of paranoid android, especially the hybrid roms! it has been a goood while since i flashed a rom, so need to figure out what i have to do again. lol, thanks, if you can provide any tips on moving to this rom from stock ics with speedmod kernel, it would be helpful! Thanks.
Is this a decent guide to follow for paranoid android?

As long as you are on safe kernel you don't have to worry about anything or to revert back to GB. Just keep flashing rom with full wipes. Its enough for you.....
So, i am trying to back up through CWM on hydracore, it gets soooo close to the end and then says there was an error backing up the data, any ideas on what this is or a remedy for it?
I dont really want to flash a rom without doing the backup... even though in the past, i have done (old phone) is it imperritive to make a backup?

What exactly you want to backup from old rom, apps? If so then use titanium backup. I never backup whole rom as it hardly takes 15-20 minutes to setup rom if you have backup of apps.

Yes, as with any AOKP/ CM9 based rom..
There are alternative apps that could be used.
Otherwise, there are some excellent choices when it comes to Touchwiz-based roms as well.
Some are available themed to the AOKP look, if you prefer.

Gnote and papryus are the best alternatives.
Swyped From My Juicy Flavoured AOKP JB.
I'm sure someone will be able to answer this super easily.
I'm new to rooting and ROMs, I just rooted my 4x hd yesterday and after being blown away at how easy it was, I'm now considering flashing a rom.
I've read around that you can get things that let you select the rom you want on boot. I was wondering if I could do this with the stock rom and cyanogenmod?
Do I have to partition the internal storage or something?
Also I'm pretty sure when you flash a new rom you loose apps and other data but can someone confirm this for me please?
And one final question. What's your favourite stable rom for the 4x hd? If I am able to switch between ROMs like that, I might add another I want to get close to vanilla if I can.
I am on version 20a stock rom android 4.2

No, you're on v4.1.2 if you're running stock ROM. But you could have found all those answers by searching first.

Hi all,
I am currently using CM10.2. I am happy with it, but I might need MHL for somehow. Can I flash back and fore between CM10.2 to Stock without wipe my cache and data and I get
1, stable enough to run on both ROM
2, Personal data still good(still keeping like whatsapp history, contact data etc)
I am not brave enough to test by myself, hope anyone can help. Thanks
Mike

You can try it but you will for sure get a bootloop, especially with stock and custom rom. This way you are maybe able to change between custom ROMs with same android version, but stock is older than CM 10.2.

That's what I meant the differences between android version are to big and especially if you have a stock and a custom rom. Too many files/file paths are different and your system will screw up. It will boot, show the LG logo and reboot. That's why every single custom rom thread has the wipe part in it's instructions.
Like I said you can try it but I see no chance. I did it once between two custom ROMs (both CM 10.1) and even that didn't work out good.
It booted but every single app and system itself force closed repeatedly.

Most custom ROMs have that option.
Yeah I know.... But I don't want to flash a custom rom actually ? because you have to setup your whole phone again.

You can always use Titanium or backup to PC then restore.
I am considering to install a custom ROM on my OP 3T. I do have one question. Cause I like oxygenOS but I just want to try something else, but when installed am I able to revert back?
Sadly, nowadays custom roms brings more harm than good.

that was a subjective question and this is an inappropriate response
it depends on what you want out of a ROM and what your stock ROM is like. if a stock ROM doesn't suit your needs, sometimes there is an appropriate ROM for you. i have rooted every samsung device i have ever had and improved my experience greatly.
when you find a good developer, custom ROMs can be better. stock is usually most stable

I wonder what you want out from a rom?we are using/talking about OOS and that's suit my needs(It has all that is missing in stock android).
Sorry but Samsung software is garbage.
Midomad said:
As Android is further refined, there are fewer and fewer reasons to use a custom ROM for most users, custom ROMs will always be relevant to entry-level/midrange smartphone users, or those who still use older devices, that aren't receiving official updates from OEMs anymore.

OOS seems to have everything i want in a ROM too.
that being said, i may find features that i want and don't have. my moto has pretty much everything i could want, but updating to a custom 7.1.1 increased the performance of my device so much that i can't imagine going back.
i haven't used any custom ROMs for OP3T yet, but from what i'm reading we have some really good devs and it is worth a shot. for instance, RR offers customization to such granularity that i will try it because that customization leaves me feeling like i actually own the device (basically the opposite of what apple does with their products)
