Rolex and Android 11. Battery Issues. - Xiaomi Redmi 4a Questions & Answers

Hi everyone,
I've tested five Android 11 ROMS and I have to say that all of them are fantastic but I always get the same problem: my battery life is decreased 50%. I usually use my rolex device for day-by-day usage. I've tested 5 roms, 3 different batteries for almost 2 months...
Finally I've came back to android 10 (Superior OS is my favourite ) and battery life is normal again... so for the moment I conclude that there is a problem with android 11.
I've read about battery issues with other devices (Samsung) and Android 11, but I don't know if that is a officially known problem or not.
Someone else with that problem?
It doesn't matter what you configure or your ussage of the device. For me my battery is consumed 50% quickier. I've observed that Android doesn't detect any problem with battery or apps or processes, everything seems to be normal. Even at nigh with no usage, screen off and suposed to be sleeping, the battery consumption is very very high

Can you say which ROMs did you tested

Hi Thago,
I've Tested Pixel Experience, WaveOS, ShapeShiftOS, DotOS.

I'm testing PixelExperience_rolex-11.0-20210213-1852-BETA-UNOFFICIAL and when the screen is off, its fine. It can last the whole day, but with the screen on, it last only 3 or 4 hours.

How? Do you mean this?
Use your phone until the battery dies. Wait until the screen turns off completely.
Turn your phone back on. It will likely shut down again before it finishes booting, but the battery isn’t completely dead yet.
Repeat this process several more times. Power it on, let it keep trying to boot up, then let it die. Eventually, the phone won’t even try to boot up anymore — you won’t even see the boot logo or splash screen. At this point, you can stop powering the phone back on.
Without turning your phone on, plug it into a charger. Let it sit there plugged in and turned off for at least 6 hours. The goal here is to charge it to 100% capacity without turning the phone on.
Once you’re confident that your battery is fully charged, go ahead and turn your phone back on. Resume your normal usage and normal charging habits.

I also have problems with battery duration on android 11. I thought the battery was old, but after buying a new one I'm back with the same problem.

Dear Leodp
With latest roms, the battery problems was solved for me. I tested Aosp extended, Superior OS (phoenix) and for me the best: Nusantara OS, I'm testing it for day by day usage for 3 weeks and works really well.

Claudio.

Thanks, Nusantara OS is ok, no battery problems. I also installed Magisk GMS Doze module, which should reduce battery usage for play services.

Hi,
I think I wrote something not 100% correct.
The fast battery drain I was experiencing with some Android versions seems to be due to an app, probably for reading emails, and not to Android itself.
After cleaning up the mess of installed apps, I have now long and consistent battery duration with both Android 10 & 11 (various versions).
There's only (probably) a marginal loss of battery % in Airplane mode on my actual Android 11 installed system, but it's too low to be sure.
So that means: no issues with Rolex and Android 11 for me.

Battery Drain on G1

Guys,I own a T Mobile G1 Android 1.6 Phone and recently I’m facing some problems. The problem that appeared recently is with the battery drain. before some days ago the battery of my G1 lasted up to 4-5 days, without using Wireless, GPS, and Bluetooth. If I used the mentioned services normally the battery lasted up to two days. But recently the battery is draining too fast. Within 4 hours the battery goes down less then 15% even I do not use any mentioned services. I keep my phone on standby, without talking a single minute with the phone, not using any service etc, and again it goes down very quick. I took some measures according to HTC instructions how to save the battery but again it does not function. I uninstalled all applications and reset the phone to factory setting by again same thing. Then I searched on the Google some instructions, I tried also that one’s but again it does not function. I always used HTC charger that came with the phone but again same problem. What is the strangest thing that after some days the battery gets back and works perfectly for two weeks, which means I use the phone normally without charging 4-5 days. As I operate very well with the smartphones, Pocket PC’s etc I start analyzing G1 and monitoring very closely why the battery goes down, I monitored for a long time the query under the :About Phone-Battery use- and I see there that Andorid OS is using the battery from 76% up to 85%. Now it came to my mind that something is keeping engaged or it keeps running the Andorid OS always on. Then I suspected that thre my be any virus on my phone, but I installed form Market Flexilis/lookout antivirus application, but there was no virus and again the battery goes very quickly down. As I said after sometime the system returns to normal and the battery lasts for 4-5 days, and when I check the information under Phone,Battery use, I see that the Andorid OS is spending only 6% of the battery. Comparing with the previous description it is a huge difference. According to my opinion there is a small problem with any file which keeps always running to much the Andorid OS. Can you please give me any instruction why Andorid OS is spending that much the battery? Or give me any instruction how to prevent this operation that keeps Android OS to much engaged? or is there any programming mistake?, is there any need for update?, do I need to root my phone as it is not rooted? The reason why I’m thinking that there is a technical problem is because sometimes the system gets back to normal and sometimes it goes out of normal running. I appreciate a lot if you could help me to resolve the mentioned problem.
I've noticed the same thing on my G1 sometimes there is fast battery drain and it seems associated with Android OS. The percentage is over 70%. I also notice it be associated with the display as well. Could be that there is some process that won't stop running and is using Android OS or it could be that on other occasions the display is not going into sleep mode properly. I wish I knew how to fix these problems but I don't. I just observe them.
The battery issue, is an up and down problem for me. Sometime I can go through it in one day or less, other days it will last me for 2 plus days.
It also could be that the battery need replacing. Who's know.
I just bought a 2nd hand G1 - works just fine. I rooted and installed CM6.1.
My battery drains within 1-2 hours. I've tried various methods of resetting stats, with no luck. How frustrating! I wonder if it's a battery hardware problem or software?
battery
I also faced bad battery life on various roms. Since I'm using COS-DS (android 2.3.3) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950765 and the Biffmod kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=950765 the phone runs more than 24h when texting and calling. Of course you should apply the 14MB RAM hack in comination with this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139. On standby (everything off, except data and 3g) my G1 runs >48h, before it needs to be plugged in.

Sounds like the basic description of the USB Charging Bug.
The bug triggers if the G1 is using a kernel starting 2.6.35 and onward tree, and charged using the USB instead of AC wall charger.
A couple of option to avoid the super discharge after that (you can use either);
1. Reboot after you unplug the USB charger.
2. Change kernel to one from 2.6.34 tree
You can also visit the Dev sub-forum, there's a thread there discussing the debugging process.
It is so unpredictable for me...I have just got into the habit of a reboot after unplugging USB.
Battery drain on the G1
I have the same problem. Even on standby it drops to less than half of its battery life. Sometimes its worse. today i noticed that the battery percentage was at 84. Next thing I know the phone reboots itself and it displays that it has 1% battery, battery icon empty all in red and LED flashing in red. Then I turn it off connect it to the charger, after a couple of seconds I turn it back on and says its 90 something percent. Could be a virus or just a battery bug, that's my guess. I scanned the phone with Lookout Security and there was no Virus, malware or spyware found.
I want to try different kernels for this battery issue but want to make sure I am installing the right one.
I have CM6.1 with 2.22.23.02 radio and DangerSPL installed. Can I just load any of the kernels built for EBI0?
Specifically, can I flash the kernel in the 1st post here? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1010932
Thanks.

10 months trying fixing battery drain (k20 pro/mi9t pro)

So, It has been 10 months of headaches. Bought in july 2019, for two months best phone ever, battery lasted 2 days, near to 1-2% of battery drain at night on standby. After installing miui 11, the battery said "bye bye". 3h screentime, need to charge the phone twice a day, losing 10%/h on standby.
What I tried is:
-havoc os
-xiaomi.eu Miui 11-12. beta and stable
-Evolution x
-latest firmware always/reinstalled latest firmware-vendor
-always clean install wiping everything
-new battery 2 months ago (same results, no difference at all)
-no app is draining battery in the settings
-unistalled analytics and miui daemon (msa not found on xiaomi.eu roms)
the phone goes in deep sleep as you can see in the photos in the link below.
Gps, wifi and bt always on. Tried switching them off, just 1% less of battery drain on standby.
Bought a broken mi 9t pro just to try switching motherboards, just to try that it isn't a electric or physical issue with the phone, but can't do it that right now, waiting the new screen to test the broken phone.
https://photos.app.goo.gl/zaAoKBJ4txMa7vRg9
Any suggestion?
Have you tested putting the phone on standby in airplane mode? This is unlikely to be the root of the issue but poor cellular signal may negatively impact the battery life.

tried that also, nothing change. Always 4%+/h of drain in standby.
I've pretty same problem, and it's really strange...
I've a Mi 9T Pro, bought not more than 2 months ago brand new, all stock.
I leave on just the phone active during the night, in both SIM cards: no bt, no wifi, no mobile data active.
The battery drain is around 10%, which is really insane considered that before my 3 years old phone, an Honor 8, in same conditions, was draining not more than 4%.
In general battery is draining really too much.
Passed OTA from MIUI 11 to 12, but the drainage is same.
I'd like to understand what is the issue causing that.
Dude. Same issue for me. It's only 6 months old. I noticed battery loss on miui just a month into purchase. I'd suggest pick a rom without Gapps or one with microG and try them out. I was using evo X and getting around 6-7 hrs SOT. Once I moved to Aim and Omni I started getting 9-10 SOT. I think Gapps is mostly the culprit. Miui sucks these days. I tried miui 12 and was utterly disappointed. Try this and you might just start loving your phone again. I'd say go for Omni and setup microG, install greenify, turn off battery optimisations only for essential messaging apps and turn on aggressive doze. Your sure to see a difference
Try havoc os 3.7 , try it without social apps like instagram, facebook and other crap.
Mine usually lasts around 3 days with 6h sot.
I also have gps , bt , sync and data always on
Tried gms doze? Disabling autostart of apps in miui?
Mi 9T Pro ll Tapatalk
The point, guys, is not to try different ROMs or install apps or not to use social medias because the phone drains battery...
The point is that the phone should not drain battery that much at all!
I think Xiaomi should care more of the firmwares released, trying harder to fix bugs that might be important rather than releasing new features.
My own opinion.
PS. Last night i checked the battery drain thoroughly: from 1.30 am to 7.30 am, just both SIM cards on to receive eventually phone calls, no WiFi, no BT, no internet connection, ND mode active = battery drained 9%
It is not acceptable!!
Clear all apps from memory, clear cache of 'Google Frameworks' and 'Google Play Services' don't restart the phone
I do this whenever I remember usually every few days and get great SOT around 9-11 hours. Although Accubattery says my battery health is 3300 of the 4000 as I've had it for a while and I'm a very very heavy user. Brand new was getting closer to 10-12 hours doing this same method.
I found it by someone posting a random comment somewhere in this forum just don't know who or where I saw it. They gave no explanation as to why it works but just what they did and its worked immediately. Note I'm still on MIUI 11.0.3 Global as I'm nervous this method won't be as effective in more newer MIUI Versions.
If you have a newer version please try and let me know if it still works, hope this helps
Also I reinstall MIUI through the phone after clean flashing it via Mi Flash
That is that I flash clean (erase storage but not lock bootloader) from Mi Flash and then go to the update settings of the phone and then press the 3 dots at the top left and "download latest update" and then install it again
This helped when I was on MIUI 10.X.X but do it out of habit so not sure if it helped for MIUI 11.0.03
edit: Reinstall method
Similar issue with my K20 Pro.
1. The battery backup on Android 9/MIUI 10 was giving me close to 1.5 days of backup of 7-8 hours of screen time.
2. It was decreased to 6-6.5 in Android 10/MIUI 11
3. Now with MIUI 12 it is reduced to 6 hours and with need of charging two times in a single day. All this with no social media apps, only Whatsapp, Youtube, Prime Video, Spotify and MS outlook, teams apps with regular usage. WIFI all the time, no GPS, 2-3 hours of Bluetooth. plus tried deboating MI apps.
So far I have tried PE, EVOX and EU roms but all gave me disappointing battery backup. The battery seems fine only on android pie so my assumption is that battery probably doesn't need replacement and more of xiaomi's firmware related issue on android 10.
It's so disappointing to see such a great piece of hardware holding back because of battery. I hope somebody find a good solution to this issue.

Battery Drain after Android 12 Update

I've promised myself not to root my pixel NOR install custom ROMs or kernels over the stock and for 1 year almost I kept the stock ROM on. It feelt wonderful to find a stock phone that was so smooth and an incredibile battery life then...
Well, then Android decided to update to 12 and I felt so confident ( usually I don't update software on old hardware ) and trust Google so much that i did the update bit **** starter to happen. Battery was draining faster then ever, with the same usage of the phone it went from 100 to 0 in 6 hours. Tried it for 1 week, factory reset twice and started from 0 with no apps installed but nothing changed.
Does anyone else had the dame problem with Android 12?
Btw, now I al on LOS + Sultan Kernel and in 13 ours of usage ( the same ad always, i don't use the phone to much ) I still have 77℅
I have the same issue as you! Besides that, A12 works randomly face id on my phone. Then I decided to use LOS
@MySelf_v1
Glad you found a solution, but I have no issues with battery on A12 running the stock ROM. That being said, Google has replaced my phone twice due to defective batteries. My current phone shows 3,860 mAh capacity which is 104% of the design capacity of 3,700 mAh. I have used Accubattery for years (after the 6P battery debacle) and when the battery capacity dropped below 80% on the P4XL I was on the phone with Google straight away. Most of my problems on the previous P4XL's were from using wireless charging continuously and leaving the phone on the charger all night, charging to 100% every time.

I think it's because Play Services is running in the background. Try restricting apps. Or you can try recalibrating your battery.

Several apps won't work without play service.
So can't restrict that.
But how to calibrate battery, it will work ?

Yeah that's the use of "Google" apps obviously. Also restricting won't kill the app, it will just load notifications slowly. I mean you said also you change rom but still battery drain continues then yea, your battery might be displaying wrong percentage, calibrating it might help
I would suggest a clean install, to begin with, and mind what the developer says about the firmware needed. I am on ArrowOS 12L and can't tell any battery drain. Installed it 5 days ago and still have 20 odd per cent of battery left, waiting for the first full charge but I do not use any google apps/ services (gapps or else).
I really suggest also flashing latest Vantom kernel from telegram channel. first 4 days no battery drain on Pixel OS, at 5th day it started with 20-30% drain overnight. Then I flashed latest Vantom and until now, no problems anymore
Battery Calibration isnt really a thing anymore, modern batteries dont need it, google that info anytime, however, going into recovery and wiping cache etc, then turn phone off, fully charge battery to 100% before turning phone back on should correct any misreads. Do remember with modern Li Ion batteries, how you treat it will determine how long it lasts, maybe reading an article of 2 about how to look after your battery may help you to maximise its life, or in the end, you find you have a battery with the iphone issue, they end up only charging to about 80% on a full charge.

Just to add guys, its very important not to regularly completely drain your battery, that also can potentially damage it, always a good idea not to let it drop below 10% before fully recharging
I can recommend between 25 and 75 percent charging. In this way I've a old tablet with always display on (dim if not use) and acca charging controller in my house for house control, used 6 years without any problems (battery is still alive)

Question Critical battery drain

Hello
Yesterday i had the phone around 65% at 01h00, in the next morning (around 7h20) i wake up to find the phone at 1%, no wifi/4G/bluetooth/GPS...etc was active, even the battery saver was ON. As you can see in the screenshots, android system drain battery around 400% !!! what's up with this behavior ? happened the 1st time last week (49% drained in 8 hours) the problem seems gone after i fully charge and than reboot, but still today happened.
The phone is almost 1 month old.
The 1st few days, i disconnected the phone from charging at 100% and went to sleep, after 6 hours battery is drained by 6% without doing nothing. is this normal ??? screenshot
ROM : crDroid 8, latest magisk installed+microg+magiskhide props config and fdroid/aurora modules installed.
Thanks

well, that must a bug related to optimiztion of the rom, report it to the rom mantainer
Exactly what happened to me same ROM same phone but I didn't root it. it drained from 54% to 6% during the night, next day I switched the ambient display off and the battery became better but so far I am also looking for solutions to make it similar to miui
I feel the battery is draining so much fast when I start using the apps unlike miui but the room is also great and fast , with my light use it gave me 1 day of use and remaining of 10% with 120 fps (3.3%/hr screen on and 0.6%/h screen off )
today I will test it with 60fps

Wow, 3.3%/hr is seriously impressive for active drain, especially for 120hz. Can I ask you if you did anything special / your exact setup? I installed Ricedroid 8.0 + Sleepy kernel and applied the GMS Doze module + Naptime (as suggested by a kind poster on here), and this allowed my idle drain to go down to 0.2%/hr, but my active drain is still struggling a bit.

Ohh the 3.3%/hr is combined use, which takes account of both active drain and idle drain (through what I guess is some weighted average). But honestly, 6.7%/hr (or even 7.8%/hr tbh) is still pretty damn impressive, so I'll thank you for letting me know! Now I wanna flash crDroid haha.

I spent 1 day and half trying all custom roms in this forum because for long time I was on miui and didn't know how custom ROMs are now , after trying I found that all custom ROMs either are pixel flavored or very basic without any customization and I settled with Cr-droid because it offers best of both worlds less google and good customization options.
now regarding the battery after few days of using on 60 fps I have combined use 2.4%/hr and 0.8% screen off but I still feel that it drains fast during my usage compared to Miui , I have only used naptime for optimization do you advise me to add anything else for non-rooted device ?

MIUI very often switches off alarm (not clock alarm) and wakeups -- it's known for long. Your notifications often comes late when using MIUI. In real life situation, however you might never notice it, but it's there. It also sets higher priorities to known messaging, social media apps to receive notification/action faster than any apps that are outside "the list".
It's a good trade off for battery life compares to stock AOSP or lineage which put every apps on generic list of "optimized battery" based on your pattern. It will took a long before the pattern is useable.

I'm not sure about your possibilities on a non-rooted device honestly. I think Naptime can work on a non-rooted device, if you grant a few permissions through ADB first (if I remember correctly, the app itself will guide you through the process). Be mindful of which apps you're restricting though, as Naptime will likely cause delays in the arrival of notifications. You can whitelist apps through Android's battery restriction screen.

Hmm I don't have any further tips honestly, not about these specific things. In my case, using Naptime already improves battery life by a ton over the course of a day (not wasting entire %s in hours of idle time is already huge).
Try and see if greenify or its replacements helps.
