Three quick questions for you experts...
1. I have attempted flashing a few ROMS to my tilt which is NOT being used on the AT&T network (on Rogers, FYI). When I flash with a Tilt specific ROM I cannot seem to connect to GPRS for some reason...even when I remove the proxy...and of course, I have the AT&T crap on there which I'd like to get rid of. When I flash with an HTC rom, the camera no longer works...I get a black screen. All else seems fine and perfect, but can't live without the cam. Any idea why this may be? Any thoughts on what to flash?
2. I use a dial around number for all my long distance, and pretty much every call. I'd like to set up a rule that for all my contacts, the dial around number is automatically dialed first, ie. 555-555-5555p556-556-5556, but i don't want to have to enter this for all my contacts...would something like this be possible with a script or a different dialer? I tried using the dialing rules but it doesn't seem to work.
3. Does anyone else find that the HTC dialer is insanely slow compared to the standard one?
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to give
When you flash a HTC ROM, be sure to let all customizations run. then let the network configuration wizard set up your connection. After that, run TaurusBulba's Keyboard fix and disable the hidden proxy.
Your camera should work fine.
Thanks, but have disabled the proxy and let the customization run, everything seemed fine but those problems remain. I have tried quite a few builds, no dice...either the camera or the gprs won't work. I'll give it another go for the hell of it, thanks
I work for the government and for the next few weeks will not be able to have a phone that can take pictures with me. Is there a way I can either remove or disable the camera function so I can show that I can not take pictures with my phone.
I was gonig to say you can request a ROM, however I just took my laptop to Best Buy today to get it fixed so i can't cook. What i suggest is that you download XDA Live 2.0 and use it for the meantime since it doesn't come with a camera.
You can download a 20270 kaiser kitchen from ppckitchen.org. I think the camera OEM is optional in it, but if not, it's easy to identify which package is the camera and delete it. As an alternive, you can probably just reassign the camera button to a non-existent app and that will essentially disable it to the casual observer.
Most secure facilities don't want you to have the hardware, regardless of whether it is functional or not.

I will look at trying to disable the camera button. I will also look at the 2027 kitchen. I have not been able to get any kind of cooking to work though. I think the main problem is vista. I am not going to be in a very secure place, just a place that has made stupid rules haha.
kareem9nba
if that dosen't work or fly whit where I am going I will go your route thank you for the suggestions.
I also work for the government and if the phone has a camera on it period it is not allowed into secure sites period no matter if the "ROM" has it disabled. once they see that it has a camera its a security risk and the guards that do the intakes could careless that it doesn't work, as long as there is a camera there they will take it until you leave or worse take it for good. the best bet is leave it in the car when you go into secure areas that has always worked for me Also the kaiser can be used as a storage medium so it probably won't be allowed anyway. Since no type of storage media is allowed. Also it depends on how secure the site your going into is
I to Contract for the Goverment!
I agree with Austinsync since there is a Camera lens on it you will not get by Security. Also the fact that it can store data via internal memory and well as transmit via sms,mms and internet there is no way you will talk your way by Security. You could glue a piece of glass on a Sucrets can and they would take it away from you. In fact I had to sign a form stating that if I do bring in something like that in they have the right to take it. and you may not get it back. Where I am PDA's are not aloud ,Anything that can be used to transport data is a risk to them. So don't bother looking for a rom, leave the phone in the car besides most government facilities jam cell calls anyway so having a phone is of no use when your inside the building.
Ed...
I just have a "dumb" phone from back in the day. Just a basic as basic gets cellular. Still useless when im on site due to jaming
I don't work for the federal government. I work for the PA state Gov. I am being sent for training. The place I am going is not secure. No security. They say no cells because they don't want them going off during class. And since we have to stay over night they don't want people running around taking pictures of everything and everyone. We can have cells if we use them as alarms though. I think that if the camera is disabled or would say "no camera" if the button was hit that it would be sufficient for my situation. Even Kareem's suggestion probably would be enough to make the trainers happy if they would say anything. If not I will leave it in my car and go from there.
Also sorry about the post in the wrong area.
So apparently, I can't bring my laptop everywhere to get my thing done, but I had a thought of referring that to my phone. I find any trusted app/script to get the packets to cap file that would sit down in my sd card for further use. I'm not some evil mastermind that would go stealing anything(don't need anything now dough) This is purely for learning since I'm still learning about IT but trying to get ahead and since android is something that I'm still not sure of how it works.
And my other question: How can I get video calling on skype? I'm assuming it should work with GindgerDX but it doesn't.

The question is ... why would you want to run a packet capture? The payload data in the packets is encrypted anyway - so there's no real way to (assuming evil intentions) crack down on the convos of other users being in the same WLAN/LAN segment. If you're worried about Man-in-the-middle attacks take my word that it won't work. If you wiretap a Skype<->Skype chat/call via a man-in-the-middle attack the connection would fail as Skype would recognize that the end-to-end encryption is borked.
Anyhow, whatever your idea is ... Google for "Pixie" ... that's a network sniffer for Android, and the only one I happen to know (as real men use tcpdump or Wireshark for network analysis anyway).

No. Skype Video only works on a selected range of devices (read up on the description in the Market) having a FRONT camera (a camera that's facing you and not a camera that's at the back of your device facing away from you).
Look around on XDA/Google (in other words: SEARCH!) and you will find out that there's a hacked version that has Video enabled for some additional devices, though I don't know if that would support the back camera of the W8/X8.
Yeah I'm kinnda sorry for the dumb question about skype cause I just always forget to look it up when I sit down on the web.
As for the sniffer thing. I dont know who would ever need to investigate packets affcourse I need to get the password. The sicuation is hard to explain, but lets say I need to prove that 14digs of just numbers is a stupid idea for long range wifi access password.
I cant get my laptop there so I need an alternative to get some packets and then easily get the password at home and as I sayed I'm not a genius in IT but I know how to use some of the features that backtrack provides.
Ok so I have a strange setup that I would like to get working on my MotoX. I have delayed lock installed on my phone because I hate having to input the code every time I pick it up but I need some security on it. Right now I have it lock after 3 minutes of inactivity. So if I'm working on something or texting someone it doesn't keep locking on me. I would like to add the wifi plugin so that my phone will stay unlocked when I am at home. When I am enjoying media at home on my chromecast/roku/bluetooth speaker it is annoying to have to enter the code to make changes. I know netflix and certain apps display the basic controls on the lockscreen but my roku remote app for example would be nice. I can't just leave the phone unlocked whenever it is within range of my WiFi however. I have roomates and a completely vulnerable phone is just asking for trouble. What I would ultimately like to be able to do is have delayed lock keep the lockscreen off when I am on my wifi and activate another app that will password protect certain apps so that I can access the basics while protecting important things like my messages, photos, etc. When i leave home and disconnect from my wifi I would like the lockscreen to engage again via delayed lock but also the individual app codes to turn off as well as i don't want to have to enter two codes to get to my stuff. I know there is probably a way to achieve this but I haven't found a clean way to do it. I understand the best way to do it might be tasker, but I don't have any experience working with tasker.
thanks
Anyone figure out how to have a lock screen and use touchless controls... you know... touchless? Giant gaping hole by Moto.
Whoa - documentation here https://motorola-global-portal.cust...a_id/94881/p/30,6720,8696/action/auth#privacy
This implies we have the ability to do this but I'm not seeing the setting anywhere???
How do I use Touchless Control with the lock screen?
Touchless Control now includes two new features to make using Touchless Control with the lock screen easier. The first is voice pin entry. If you use a numeric pin code you will be prompted by Touchless Control when you encounter the lock screen to speak your pin. Simply say your pin code to unlock the phone to complete your request. The second feature is to allow the Google application to run in front of the lock screen without needing to unlock the phone. This feature requires you to agree to the terms and conditions before you use it. Enabling the feature can be done by agreeing to the notification or turning the feature on manually within Settings -> Touchless Control
Using Open Mic+ seems to be a viable alternative. Does it use the low power core from Moto though?

It's a necessity that it will not work as you want it if you secure your phone (there's really no way to have your phone be secure and has full access to the touchless controls). Your best bet is to buy something like a Cobra Tag alarm and use it as a trusted bluetooth. Turn it on/carry it with you whenever you don't want to have to unlock your phone. I use my car's bluetooth to keep my phone unlocked while driving. It works great because you can wake the phone up and tell google now to navigate somewhere or ask about the traffic all without touching your phone. I think the trusted bluetooth is another great feature that Motorola included that separates it from other phones out there currently.
I've also been beta testing the new SkipLock app for it's developer. It allows you to disable the lock screen when you're connected to trusted wifi points like at home and work. I've been using it a couple days and it has been working well.

Egh this doesnt really solve issue because you could be at the office all day long. You dont want your phone unlocked there.

still too many use cases where this doesn't apply...
moto missed the ball here. this should be user changeable option. there is no security concern here. you dont have to give someone access to the messaging app, just send the damn message.
I use tasker + secure settings to keep my phone unlocked when within range of both my work or home wifi. I feel secure enough at work that I'm not too worried about having it unlocked. Anything extremely sensitive is locked up anyway. I also use my truck's BT as a trusted device which keeps it unlocked there as well.
So basically my phone is unlocked unless i"m not in my normal places.

Did you follow any specific Tasker guide on how to set that up? I have tried setting it up and haven't have much luck.
I have however just tried Skipunlock and it works well on my Moto X with 4.2.2.
Provided I can get it to work properly, I would rather use Tasker so that I can set it up to unlock when "near" a wifi network rather than being connected.

I've been using this setup for a while. I'm sure I didn't just figure it out but saw it somewhere but I don't have any idea where. The only gotchya is that with 4.4 you need to use the beta version of secure settings.
I use pattern lock, so I just create a task when connected to wifi to disable pattern lock. Secure Settings does need to have the 'helper app' installed too.

Here's the two Tasker projects I've been using to unlock my device while connected to a "safe" Wifi network. One of the projects maintains a set of variables that can be used as states or referenced within tasks. The other project handles the locking and unlocking, and depends on the first project. It's was working fine on my Galaxy Nexus for a long time, and appears to work fine on the Moto X as well.
There's a lot in the "states" project that's not needed for locking/unlocking, but it comes in handy for other things. You can probably just change the "Wifi Connected" state to a "Wifi Near" in the myTRUSTEDWIFI profile, and get rid of the Wait action and uncheck the "if" box in the remaining action in the exit task.
Yes!!!! New version of touchless control fixes this!!!
