Question About S6 VoLTE( redundancy ?)On Tmobile

First I do not have an S6 yet but am researching before Purchase and main concern
is Battery Life ....but this is a General Question.
On Metro PCS/ Tmobile we already have VoLTE on all Devices which have 4G LTE
Radios which are Carrier Branded Devices.
Metro PCS was one of the first so back in 2012 my little LG Motion 4G had simultaneous
Voice and Data on LTE Band .
My current Factory Unlocked Alpha 850M is CAPABLE of VoLTE but lacks the specific
TMobile Software for VoLTE on this Network so as soon I make a call the LTE
drops down to 3G or H H+ to make the call then returns to LTE after the call.
All unlocked Devices do this .
HOWEVER: the Galaxy S6 has a VoLTE setting in the Menu - on a MetroPCS/Tmobile
version on Tmobile/Metro you already have this function so:
1) What does VoLTE switch do on S6 Tmobile version - you stay on LTE During calls
either way - right ? VoLTE ON or OFF.
2) Since there IS a VoLTE switch will this be the FIRST Device that enables VoLTE even
as a Factory Unlocked version running on Tmobile/ Metro ?
Meaning - is this the beginning of VoLTE as a Universal Android Feature across many
Carriers not requiring specific Carrier Software for a Specific Network to enable
VoLTE on multiple Carriers ?
Thanks for your patience - I am not a Dev and have learned much here.

I don't believe this is the case YET. Android AOSP has VoLTE built into it as of OS version 5.1 (as seen with the Nexus 6). Prior to this the VoLTE was handled by carrier software on carrier devices. I do not know if another carriers S6 will use VoLTE on T-Mobile without being flashed with T-Mobile software first.
That being said going forward we should see a VoLTE "Universal Android Feature" that is compatible with any device/enabled carrier but not until 5.1+
You're confusing a few different things
- Simultaneous voice + data was always available on GSM networks, it uses the regular GSM radio to place the call and then data is separate. This is not VoLTE.
- CDMA carriers (Verizon, Sprint, old Metro PCS) had trouble with voice + data, CDMA didn't allow it to work. When LTE was introduced, it gave them the ability to connect voice through CDMA and data via LTE, so that's how they were able to do simultaneous voice + data. This is also not VoLTE.
- VoLTE is sending the call over the data LTE network. This is also different to WiFi calling. So instead of your phone call being transmitted as a voice call, it's turned into data, and sent through T-Mobile (or whatever carrier's network) as data. You can have a VoLTE call and use data as well, it's the equivalent of having 2 data apps running at the same time.
- There have been a few VoLTE enabled phones already, I believe the Note 4 and Z3 both have VoLTE. There are probably others, I just don't know off the top of my head.
We have Had VoLTE Phones on Metro PCS since August 2012
Again-we have had VoLTE Phones since 2012 on Metro PCS :
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2408750,00.asp
I had one of the first Models called LG Motion 4G- the Call
AND the Internet while on the Call were all over LTE.
Metro PCS was one of the first to offer this and most of their
LTE ( if not ALL) have had this feature since AND TMobile has
adopted this Feature to most of their phones.
But I don't want to get bogged down in that Question.
The Question is - On Metro PCS /Tmobile you ONLY Get VoLTE on a Metro branded Phone-
AT&T issued an OTA UPDATE for their first VoLTE Phone which
was Galaxy S4 Mini .
There is No Factory Unlocked Phone which can get VoLTE on Metro PCS ( but their Branded 4G LTE phones do have VoLTE)
BUT - since VoLTE is a Function in the Galaxy S6 and is somewhat supported by Android Lollipop -
Will Factory Unlocked Galaxy S6 be the First Phone which will
Stay on 4G LTE during a call even when you get on the Internet?
Other Phones which are NOT Carrier Branded drop down to 3G during calls and thus have slower data speeds during calls etc.
The new Galaxy S6 Active will probably have an SD Card and much larger Battery -probably exclusive to AT&T
BUT Factory Unlocked Models will become available -
1)IF I get a Factory Unlocked S6 Active and turn on VoLTE Feature-will the Device stay on 4G LTE during calls with Data - VoLTE ?
2) Metro PCS LTE phones and Tmobile LTE Phones already have VoLTE so again what is the difference on S6 if you turn VoLTE on or off in the Menu ?
3) My Factory Unlocked Galaxy Alpha 850M does not have the VoLTE software for Metro/ Tmobile so I am on LTE but as soon as I make a call I drop to 3G ( it shows on the screen) with slower data and sometimes data interruption.
Will S6 do the same thing if an Unlocked Phone or be the first Factory Unlocked Phone with VoLTE across multiple Carriers ?

I have a MetroPCS Galaxy S6 Unlocked and VoLTE Works Fine and also I have the T-mobile firmware on it I'm not sure if that would change anything but I was just saying for me it works perfect

How to enable VoLTE on SM-n920c?

I bought a Note 5 sm-n920c thinking that the non-carrier specific-verison would support VoLTE.
However advanced device info settings reports "VoLTE Provisioned" as off, and it cannot be switched on.
On EE UK, setting to LTE only prevents making phone calls.
Is there a problem with the standard Note 5 here? If so, can VoLTE be enabled with any hacks? Root, flashing, etc.?
There is a thread on VoLTE but it's full of Indian-specific stuff.

Unlocked variant on t-mobile

I have an Unlocked variant which I purchased directly from Samsung.
I don't happen to see VOLTE settings in my mobile networks setting.
Is this normal? I have seen another user post a screenshot from his/her phone which shows VoLTE setting (Telcel network) which can be turned off or on,but my phone doesnt have that.
I am on Tmobile.
tmobile phones have never displayed any VoLTE icons or notifications. Its carrier dependant on if they show it or not.
Unlocked US S10s has every Tmobile feature except Multiline Digits and probably their crappy RCS service
It's also missing the Tmo Video calling.
i have t mobile and always buy samsung international phones. volte, wifi calling,
video calling, and download booster usually dont work until i change the csc to tmo. i would think the ability to do so will be coming once the phone is rooted and out for a while.

1. Normal. The icon is disabled, but the feature isn't.
2. Yes. Testing VoLTE is as simple as placing a call. Phones w/o VoLTE will drop to 3G/2G OR fail if LTE is the only signal avail.
3. VoLTE toggle is missing. I sent feedback to Samsung about this some time ago.

Can't enable VoLTE

My carrier did support VoLTE, I have been able t offer VoLTE working on my Note10+. But after I switch to Pixel 4 XL it's not an option

i have exactly the same problem in greece, the 4 last mobiles like note 9,op 5t and 7 pro,p30 pro works perfect with cosmote carrier on volte and wificalling mode, but with pixel 4 xl not working.i didn't find solution on the whole network
Google is just ignoring most VoLTE networks by not providing needed configs on their phones.

Carrier should add the profile of Pixel 4 to enable VoLTE. No VoLTE is working in HK for Pixel 4 device unless they do so.

I don't think so, VoLTE works on my Galaxy Note3 with flashed rom that supports VoLTE although my network didn't list and have VoLTE for Note3
From what i know strongly carrier dependant. If they did not enable it for the device, i cannot enable it
There was a way to enable VoLTE on my previous Asus Rog phone 2 using root. My carrier didn't support it before but it worked using that hack. Don't know if the same will work on pixel..

I am on google fi. Both my wife 3axl and my 4xl show volte as on but greyed out. So I cant change it. I dont know if that means its actually on or not. And it shows vowifi not available and vidio over lte not avaliable. Does anyone know if I am actually on volte?

If you are on LTE out of call, you making a call and you stay on LTE, then you have VoLTE.
Ah thank you. I do belive that I am on volte. It does continue to show lte when on a callat least most of the time. sometimes it kicks back to hspa+ but not too much. The weird thing for me is why no vowif. I thougt wifi calling was a given at this point especially with tmo. I have signal spy and I use it to force tmo all the time. Sprint sucks in my area but for some reason the phone wants to default to sprint. I did the tests in a number of sports around my area and sprint gets like average 8 mbps download while tmo gets like 30 or 40mbps download. Thats a big difference. This is my second time on fi. I had it when it first came out with my nexus 6p and it always stayed on tmo. never switched to sprint. so fi changed something.
Has anyone figured out this issue? I am on redpocket with GSMA (ie AT&T). They have told me over and over that volte and WIFI calling is enabled - neither option is available. (same with a note10+, pixel 3 XL).
Thanks!

Have you tried the mentioned method?
I have magisk on Canary build and i am not able to find advanced settings to set "preserve avb 2.0/dm-verity" in first steps.
Also I tried to apply the codes at the end of the instructions to enable Diag mode but it is not working
I am on latest Android 11 beta 3

For the A11 beta's there aren't any userdebug vendor images anyway, so you can't do that step. On A11 Beta 3 I know QPST works with the given ADB commands at the bottom of the quoted post, but I couldn't get QXDM to show anything but it's a pretty old version. I do not know about PDC.

Will flashing pixel 4 XL with AT&T build carrier lock device?

I have an unlocked pixel 4 XL that was purchased directly from Google. I would like to have Wi-Fi calling on AT&T but was told they only enabled it on AT&T branded phones. Would flashing my pixel 4 XL with an AT&T build carrier lock my device?
I also have a pixel 3 XL and have the same question.
Thanks in advance anyone who can answer.
@bmurf
What they told you is not true. I have always had WiFi calling working on ATT using Google Store phones forever. If you are currently using AT&T as your carrier, you use the "Global" image or AT&T only if one is available, and NO it definitely will not carrier lock your phone. If you are on the November 12.0.0 (SP1A.211105.002, Nov 2021) it will work if your SIM is provisioned for it. If you cannot get Wifi calling working, check phone settings to see if your SIM is provisioned for it. In the dialer type *#*#4636#*#* under phone settings check that the toggle for WI-Fi calling is on. If it is on, that means your SIM is provisioned for it and it will work. If it is off and you cannot toggle it on, your SIM has to be provisioned for it by AT&T. . My family has 4 Pixels and they all have Wi-Fi calling working for years. Starting back with the Nexus phones, but PIxel 2,3,4 all work. You can go to AT&T and request they provision your SIM for free. Don't leave the store until both your phones are working. If you have a really old SIM it may need to be replaced (free also). Disclaimer: I have had a post-paid account for a long time. If you are on a pre-paid plan or AT&T MVNO, your results may be different.
