Just giving everyone a heads up:
I just finished installing brand new firmware in my T510. I downloaded it through the Samsung Firmware Downloader app. It does work. However, I thought I was getting T510XXU4BUA and ended up with T510OXM5BUC4. I was unaware of this, as the downloaded zip file was labelled incorrectly, and I don't spend much time with the md5's using Heimdall, so I didn't find out until all was finished. Anyway, it's completely derailed my plans, and I just wanted to let everyone know to be careful. Anyone with advice on saving this ****-show without re-flashing everything (I re-built libusb from source because it was giving me trouble, and don't know if I'll be successful again), it'd be much appreciated.
Take care and all that.

As I make progress towards making us an overclocked kernel I will keep m380w users informed in this thread. Wish me luck!
June 16, 2012 Had to post an updated torrent file.
May 01, 2012 New Firmware Released (NOT ICS)
Attached is a torrent file for FD19

Here's the latest. The source code that Samsung makes available seems to have issues. I have tried and tried again to reproduce a stock kernel that will boot with the initramfs. However, the defconfig provided does not match the .config extracted from config.gz. There are some big differences between the two. The defconfig supplied with the source code defines the board as p4 yet the .config from the kernel defines it as p4wifi. So naturally I have tried both and I have tried many, many other things. All for not.
I contacted FOSS and the response was to the tune of, "We sent your message to the dev. team. If they respond, we'll respond. Until then, just wait."
With that said, I see no reason to muck about with trying to make an overclocked kernel, when there is no indication that I have valid source code.

Here is a stock ROM of EK10, released 11/23/2011 for those who need or want it.

I made some progress and have extracted the initramfs from the EK10 kernel using koush's AnyKernel. See attachments. One step closer to an overclocked kernel.
Pershoot has graciously offered his time and resources and built a recovery cwm_5.0.2.7_kor for the m380w. Which now displays correctly on this device.
He included the following notes:
UMS is not implemented (so the option will not work).
no radio/extra partitions will be available.

Can you give a few more details?
Is it HoneyComb 3.2?
Is it for WiFi or 3G tablets?

It is Honeycomb 3.2. The shw-m380w is a wifi model.

One of the most noticeable difference is the integrated digital dmb tv and radio receiver and antenna. With no change in the look and dimensions. It comes wifi with or without 3g.

Thank you so much pershoot and Koe1974. Now, CWM can operate normally with my device. Actually, my device model is shw-m380s with 3g and I would like to ask you is it able to upgrade by CWM with the custom roms of P7500 (as overcome rom) and the overclock kernel?
Hi pershoot. I've just made a backup for my kor tab (model shw-m380s). Please help me to check the boot.img attached and let me know my device is able to apply your kernel or not. Thank you in advance.
Your device is not compatible with my kernel.

Thank for your reply Pershoot. Yesterday, I tried to patch your kernel and my tab couldn't boot, so I had to back to its stock kernel. I also upgraded my tab to Overcome Rom with stock kernel and it works fine exclude one issue is the brightness level couldn't adjust anymore. Because I am not good at hex and linux coding, so I appreciate if you or other developers could help me (and people own this device) to fix my stock kernel to make it is suitable with CWM roms and able to be overclocked. Thanks alot in advance.
Just to share some of my experience, I have an M380W model, I installed pershoot's CWM-based recovery, backed up everything, and installed Galaxy Task 6.2 ROM for a try (and 6.3 update). The screen keeps scrolling, but this is solved by restoring boot.img within the recovery.
I then have the same symptom as phuonglev, the screen brightness level can't be adjusted (set to medium and looks so), and I sometimes have orientation problems.
Could all this be resolved with your specific kernel koe1974 ?
I don't imagine it will. All I am planning at this point is to enable overclocking. It will essentially be a stock kernel. It sounds as if it is something in the rom causing the problem. As much as we would like to think the korean models are the same, from past experience with a galaxy s 'shw-m110s vs gt-i9000', the roms are just not interchangable. It always seems that there is 'something' that does not work as it should.

How is your progress Koe? I'm waiting for the good new from you.
Awesome, can't wait to see some progress.
I thought I was the only one with problems trying to use tasks rom.
Just FYI for any other M380W owners out there, you can supercharge your tab. Made a big difference for me.
*Edit
Btw Koe,
There is a small update for the M380W 10mb file from software update. After it downloads and reboots it's telling me that it failed to install. Any advice on how to get past this? (I'm rooted and supercharged).

If you are on EK10 then it is probably the update for Polaris Office. However, if you are not running the stock rom, your device may be reporting that is an p7500 or p7510 which I think comes with QuickOffice. So it might be confused.

This is the best I can do ( http://www.wupload.com/file/2662167342/SHW-M380W.EK10.7z ). If you prefer bit torrent, let me know.
So, just to confirm.
If I want to root my device (I just picked it up yesterday) I need to download the
Samsung_Galaxy_Tab_10.1_root.zip file, then follow the instructions for apply the zip through recovery mode.
So what is the ek10.7z do? I understand it is a stock ROM....is it just for back up or why would it be needed? I guess I am just asking what is special about it
Then, who do you flash a ROM with this one?
I am familiar with the Korean ROMs and kernels. I have the m110s and have received so much help from Koe before Thanks for that.
I have taken over the old thread and have been trying to fill your shoes! hahhaa

To root just follow the instructions and you will be fine.
ek10.7z is just the stock rom for if you choose to revert from back. currently, there doesn't seem to be much development going on for the m380w so I uploaded it for those brave enought to try roms built for other 10.1 models. I always delete tons of stock apps so it's helpful to have a stock rom to get back it i need to.
is flashing ROMS still the same?
Just using Odin and put the file into the PDA slot?
Forgive me for a stupid question but I'm VERY new to this:
Because Touchwiz is so awful, and the original galaxy tab is being denied ICS by Samsung, I've been thinking about using a custom rom.
There's already a nice looking ICS port coming along.
However, being VERY new to the galaxy tab - I bought this one used, as a pure wifi device, though it HAS a sim slot, I want to know -- how can I restore the original OS if I have problems with a custom firmware?
I noted Kies will refuse to deal with a samsung tablet if it's not an official rom... or am I mistaken?
I'm on a NTT Dococmo SC-01C (original Galaxy Tab) with official 2.3 docomo firmware. this was an upgrade from the preinstalled 2.2
Thank you SO much for help in advance.
You can flash stock firmware using either heimdall or Odin
So yes you can always go back.

Would you recommend the ICS Alpha 3, or is there a better Honeycomb rom? I can't be sure which is which because it seems like every distro has its OWN version number which doesn't match the android release number... sigh
I don't have personal experience with the hc port from but its being released as an release candidate which means that it should work pretty OK but there are probably still quite a few bugs to squash. The ics alpha 3 from is what I've been testing recently. It is NOT feature complete and those features that ARE there are extremely buggy if you are curious to know what isn't working I suggest exploring the ics from dev thread. Most of the working/broken info is in the first post. More detailed info can be found by paging through. Its nowhere near ready for prime time as an every day rom. I'm just testing it because I'm a bleading edge kind of guy and wanted to check out responsiveness and the slick new UI. I will be switching my from back to a gb room sharpish. Please note that i,m not giving the project a bad review, contrarily its showing amazing progress and I'm sure within a few months that there will be a release candidate of either fully working ics aosp or cyanogen mod 9 which is an ics project for the tab that many of the pics aosp project members are contributing to right now.
For a self described noob I would suggest looking for the most stable well tested and fastest rooms you can find. My best recommendations would be overcome kratos (the latest version for the Sgt) or cyanogen mod 7. Both of which are based on gingerbread and both of which have been tested for long periods of time with awesome user feedback and work great without the bloat of all the Samsung apps and such

Hi all,
So yes, I'm a prat. A massively lucky one. Earlier in the day, I managed to successfully root and upgrade the firmware on my Samsung Galaxy Note GT-N7000 to CM9, specifically cm-9.1.0-n7000.zip from the Cyanogenmod website. I got it working, and all was happy, shiny and right with the world.
And then, it all went Pete Tong when I tried to flash gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip on it, which promptly tried to make it go back to the stock firmware, and then it soft-bricked. I managed to recover from this minor boo boo, but I would love to know how I get my Google and Facebook contacts on there... any hints?

Hmmm? I'd start all over.
Is there a reason why youre using CM9? [since CM10.1 is out and pretty stable].
Anyway, the Gapps you installed was meand for Gingerbread [GB] [CM7] and CM9 is based on IceCreamSandwich [ICS].
If you decide to use CM10.1 which is Jellybean [4.2] youll need to use the latest JB based gapps with that.
Anyhow, if you use the proper gapps and sign into your google account on the first boot, itll synchronize with the google server and recover your google contacts. [it probably didnt work because as you said yourself the wrong gapps was installed.]
About facebook: Im not a bookfacer myself but i reckon when you install the facebook app, the contacts will be [MAGICLY] added to your contact list.
Goodluck!

I'm using that as CM doesn't appear to have a stable monthly build for my device on 10 or 10.1. I managed to finally get the right version of GApps, and they've come down, so many thanks. So that said, can you suggest a decent stable ROM? Unfortunately my Googling for this isn't up to par, as I'm not quite sure what to look for. Yes, I'm a n00b.

I think if you look around in android development youll find quite some interesting roms.
Most if not all roms are pretty much always under construction; however that does not mean theyre not stable enough to use as a daily driver.
That being said, i myself am quite happy and impressed by Paranoid Android 3, which is based on Android 4.2.2(JB).
Make a backup using cwm recovery and just give it a try.
Goodluck.

Hi, I want to root my S3 mini, above model, running Android 4.1.2. I'd love to be free of the huge amount of bloatware that came with the phone so I can optimise its functionality.
However, I previously tried to root my Samsung Galaxy Y and ended up bricking the phone in spite of various attempts.
The endless threads going off in different directions are not particularly helpful either.
Also, if I do manage to root the phone, how can I be sure that there won't be conflicts with Samsung firmware updates etc.
I'm trying to make the process as smooth as possible. I know people on here give their time freely and appreciate that but losing half a day just trying to get a bricked phone back to its original state is not much fun.
Hey bro while upgrading any samsung device it is told that if the device is rooted i may cause problems.. So i think the mistake you make is upgrading your phone after rooting which eventually leads you bricking your device....

you won't get any samsung updates after rooting so there won't be any conflicts.
maybe these videos will help you how to root and install a custom rom.
I'm using the I8190 and I can asure you, once you have found a ROM that fits your needs, you won't miss Samsung updates. You can simply flash the new ROM, or you can wait and have a look if there are problems reported, then you stay on the firmware.
Downgrade? No problem.
Wanna change Rom? No problem.
Once you got for root and maybe even an upgraded ROM you won't miss a thing
OK, how do I know what mod is the best given my spec?
You mean which ROM?
Well, you can try a few and see which one fits your needs best, simply search the forum
I was referring to the CyanogenMod 10.2 mentioned in the video posted.

Just wondering, I'd love to see LineageOS ported, although I personally suspect that given the commit to deliver Oreo by the end of the year, most serious work on ROM ports may start once that is delivered. I'd like to be surprised though! Thanks to all who contribute to the ROM community on any phone however, it is always appreciated even if you don't get enough thanks!
JUST got a copy of the XT-1900-1 factory image... maybe... really haven't verified it yet.
As for building, we are starting fresh so there is nothing to build *from* yet. Files and blobs need to be extracted and obtained. Device trees need to be populated. Then there is the conundrum of 6 or 7 variants of this device.
In other words, it will be awhile.
