wth?
This will be updated in 2.2FROYO where all 512MB RAM will be available for use.

Hopefully you are right, any source where i can see the official statement about this issue?
From another thread:
Sigh. No. No ROM ever will. This is because the radio firmware reserves a lump of RAM all to itself so that you can... you know... make and receive calls.
Can you imagine how annoyed you would be if you missed calls or SMSes just because you'd used up all the available memory?

As said in more threads sgs has 512 mb but you loose ram for kernel, shared memory and phone memory. At the end you have about 300 MB of available memory on stock kernel. So samsung doesn't lies.

Link to where it is said as a 384MB device, coz currently we only have 350+ max usable but its unstable but the device functions wll at 340MB usable.
I wonder how the guys with the N1 reacted since they only see 192MB of their 512MB ram

N1 only saw ~200MB of RAM because a bug in Linux kernel. With the bug corrected you see 512MB of TOTAL RAM.
And yes, N1 owners complained about this. The difference is that there was a lot less fanboys defending Google or HTC about this matter.
Even the Tab has 444MB
http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_p1000_galaxy_tab-review-527p3.php
or
youtube.com/watch?v=EMLJOa2KFK0&feature=player_embedded
at the 37th second you'll see 444MB total while they advertize with "Internal 16/32 GB storage, 512 MB RAM"
and such a tab is even more expensive then a sgs.. =/

I'm 99% sure that's wrong. It wasn't a bug, it just didn't support larger amounts which was because of the way ARM was designed apparently. Linux was designed that way, and needed to be updated.
This is a totally different situation, and not sure why billboa is claiming that samsung now markets the SGS as 384mb of ram either. I have seen NO evidence of that, and if that's true, please show proof the SGS is being marketed as 384mb.
I agree that we do need more spare RAM to be available (especially in the froyo leaks, which may be betas anyway) and the currently-reserved RAM to be allocated dynamically when needed, so there is more ram available at other times. RAM allocation is cheap afterall.

You mean the link in this thread? Because those point to custom models. Just because one Xbox includes a HDD for instance, doesn't mean all models do. I'm still having serious trouble finding any evidence that Samsung are advertising the international unit as 384MB of RAM..

Well, maybe it's not a N1 you are holding? What about a screenshot?
I can show you a picture of two devices side by side: N1 (FRG83) showing 390MB and i9000 (FROYO.JHJP8) with only 304MB.
I have a Galaxy S model GT-I9000B ( brazilian version from VIVO carrier )
I flashed froyo BVJJPD and my ram manager says I have only 304 MB RAM.
weird.
Sigh
The galaxy s actual does have 512mb of RAM inside it. Out of that 512mb, 128mb is used by the gpu or something involving the hardware(I don't really know where so not going to pretend I do). Then out of the remaining 384mb some is used by the system. I say some cos different kernels use a different amount.
Like on damiangtos 2.2 kernel there was 360mb of ram free at one point.

Actually, I'd also like to know what's using the remaining 200MB or so of the 1GB RAM. Is it the system? Surely the system is already included in the used RAM indicator? Or maybe it's for the graphics?
I do find it annoying that with its advertised 1GB RAM the SP all too easily appears to run out of memory. Loading up complex pages in Opera set for "desktop" user agent frequently causes background apps to be kicked out. Sometimes even Opera appears to be booted out for using too much RAM! This shouldn't happen on a modern 1GB RAM device, when there's still around 200MB RAM free, and a further 200+MB "missing". It's a bit of a joke really... Now I can begin to understand why the latest hardware has 2GB.
Seems 200MB is reserved for the system. And also XBMC seems to use alot of cache memory. Removed XBMC and turned of alot of Sony apps and now I have a decent amount of RAM left.

So, I think everyone still dunno what the "1GB" RAM mean...
usually in android phone, the 1GB RAM was not exactly 1GB, normal scaling is 7XXMB user and system access RAM + 2XX MB system hardware reserve RAM (usually ur GPU - it's like the old Intel GMA)
Then 7XXMB user and system access RAM is further separate to user access RAM and system process reserve RAM (just see how's they scaling)
And it same as other market advertise 2GB, 512MB, etc Android Phone, even S4's user and system access RAM also approx 1.8GB instead of "2GB"
U all are still haven see how's Samsung stock ROM make their RAM usage always in busy usage (If someone got use S Advance with updated JB Stock ROM then u should know)
If got time u all should read this:

XBMC is Xbox Media Center. It was first developed for the original Xbox.
Now its available for all platforms like Android, , Windows, Linux even Rasperry Pi. Its a complete media center solution with any function you can think of.
Google it, its really interesting. It has full media functionality with its own UI. You can watch movies, stream tv shows through internet, listen to music, run software, its almost a stand alone operating system.
Under Android you can even use your phone as a remote/ keyboard to navigate through XBMC while having it installed on an Android tv stick.

also some of it s used by the Adreno 320 GPU.
both phones when empty from bloatware, the xperia sp free ram is 260mb and the chinese phone is 422 mb, why?!!!! i want the value to change at antutu benchmark device info to 971 mb instead of 766 mb is there a way??
We have 1 GB of RAM. Aprox 200/250 mb is for system. For:
- Camera; filming does not work without enough RAM
- GPU; If you have a PC and you game a lot you know what i mean
Also for being able to connect, and have the system running smooth there is RAM needed.
About your LED issue:
Stamina mode enabled? If yes disable it or download illumination bar pro
It has been stated many times by sony that stanima mode disables the LED to save battery

The Chinese "Super" phone you refer to more than likely has no manufacturer skin like Touchwiz etc, and zero bloatware thats why it has more free ram.
with a MTK Cortex A7 processor, as for performance goes it cannot compare to the Xperia SP.
you've already been told some of the Ram is reserved for the GPU/Imaging camera system etc.
tweaking androids internal Minfree values can with multi-tasking.

Anyway, better than mine.
I wrote to Samsung Customer Service and they replied me that a quote of RAM is reserved for OS...
Why - then - we all have different amounts of total RAM?
Mine also says 1258mb. SM-G800F rooted stock Rom
Well first of all, anything related to sizes in computer world is not exact since someone decided that 1mb is 1000kb not 1024kb. So if a device has example 1,5GB ram, it's never really exactly 1,5GB.
Then secondly the system reserves some amount of the ram to use, so a phone will never have 1,5GB free ram if it's marketed having 1,5GB ram.
Edit: Thirdly, you have to compare the ram usage to a same phone with same firmware, settings, apps and updates to get real information.

@leripe: It only applies to data storage devices, not ram.
RAM: 1.5Gb = 1536 Mb = 1572864kb = 1610612736b
DISK: "1.5Gb" ~ 1500000000b ~ 1464844kb ~ 1431Mb < 1,4Gb
But rest is right. Most of the ram is reserved for other hardware, ex GPU.

Just stay away from Turbo ROM, I'm using it right now. (Not sure if it's an Android 6.1 Issue or just from Turbo ROM) Right now at this moment of writing my system is taking 484MB of RAM and my apps 230MB leaving me with 178MB free. Rebooting the phone fixes the issue for some time. (I'm not using Xposed nor anything similar, just Greenify).
Anybody from here knows if Android 7.1 requires more RAM than 6.1? Is it worth (or even possible) to downgrade our phone to Kitkat to get that extra RAM boost? Or is it better to stick arround with Lolipop+ ROMs?

Yes, you are right I took the picture in the wrong place. I just noticed that on my phone (Turbo Rom 5.0) my system is taking at least half of the phone available RAM for the system ONLY. I't usually between 450 to 580 MB. When I took the previous picture I thought that the System RAM usage rose to 700 (It looks the same). But I still believe that having the system taking half or more of RAM available must be wrong anyway (Look at he picture in this post).
Anybody can give some suggestions how to reduce System RAM usage? Or is it ROM dependent? (I'm not using any mods like Xposed nor other UI Mods)

Hey guys!
Many of you guys know about Mi A2's Memory problem. It's about Write and Read speed of Rom.
I tried everything. Sometimes its good but most often its bad like hell. Writing speed is about 30 MB/s.
I tried to reflash stock ROM and install clean so I got a better result. About 235 MB/s... After few days of using again... 30 MB/s
Idk what's wrong exactly. Xiaomi pulled back both updates of August and September. so I think there are some major issues.
And I am sure that there is two model of eMMc memory for A2. And I hope that this problem just goes for software.
This bug or issue cause many lags and freezes. Many people have the problem with flashing Roms with fastboot in Mi A2 too. I think this can be ROMs issue too. I tried to flash via fastboot with adb or with Xiaomi flash tool but both were unsuccessful due to an unknown issue. I tried them on 3 computer with over 16 GB of ram so it's not my computers problem.
We just need Xiaomi talk clearly about this problem. It's not a small one
I just want to know if our phones have the hardware problem or no
Update: At the 22 of October, we created an issue tracker for google devs, And they are investigating the problem. If u have the problem too, pls go to the button link and star the issue:
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/118036531
Update: ( 24.10)
Google admin:
We have passed this to the development team and will update this issue with more information as it becomes available.
that's right, it's a common problem on this cell phone, we hope that with the October update it will be resolved as more and more complaints
ye
Let's see some screenshot
Many Beta testers in India MIUI forum believe that its just my problem and they haven't any problem with ROM speed
I can confirm this. What's promising that speeds are good on freshly installed system. So it can mean that this is something with the software, not hardware.

Exactly. When i install fresh rom, there is no problem. both speeds are about 200 MB/s. But after few days... Its like hell and it cause some lag and bad response on touch
Maybe someone who has installed MIUI version on Mi A2 can do the tests, because MIUI doesn't have two partition system, so we can see if there is difference there.
And how are the Mi 6x 64/4 test speeds ?
Because it is the same hw on this phones, we can know is it software or hw issue.

90MB/s writing is not good really. It must be about 200 at least. But it's not about speed. it's about instability. Try to run that benchmark again. Then try to use ur phone...
Just a question. Since this happens after some use, it could just be that memory isn't being trimmed (properly).
Could you trim the memory and do a benchmark then?
You can trim it via terminal or using the Trimmer app from the play store. Root needed for this.
