I want to use my Huawei P30 Pro to provide an Ethernet connection for my ancient desktop PC which does not have wifi. I've bought one of these USB-Ethernet adapters but it's not working for me. My PC can see the LAN connection but it says "No Internet".
Any advice?

many thanks
have you gone into developer options and changed USB connection to ethernet (if the option is there) ?
don't quote me but it needs to be supported, by the kernel I think. I've seen that option on custom roms in the past but it's not on my current phone (not Huawei)
You can find this setting in the p30 pro ne in the developer options in USB-configuration: RNDIS (USB-Ethernet)

I seem to have a problem with my Optimus black which shows no USB tethering option at all.
According to what I have googled up and searched in this forum, a USB tethering option should be available in the wireless network section of the main settings. It appears in none of the submenus either.
It was bought free of contract and updated to Android 2.2.2 using the official LG updater. I have installed USB drivers on the computers that it connects to (and it connect succesfully as an USB storage).
Anybody knows how to bring up this USB tethering option?
Try PdaNet from android market. It may help.. Didn't try it though.
Hi folks,
Just bought an Ethernet OTG adapter.
My phone recognize the device but it doesn't give me any settings to configure the standard Ethernet protocol.
With 'ifconfig' in terminal emulator I can see the correct port (eth0) but any modifications (e.g. 'ifconfig eth0 192.168.0.4 netmask 255.255.255.0") obviously lock me out with a "permission denied".
I know for sure that the otg device have DHCP capabilities, but I need to set a static IP address in a link local region with 169.254.X.X/16 address and 255.255.0.0 netmask.
I'm connecting directly to a specific device that need this parameters.
Thank you

It might be that the ethernet drivers are half baked(for all adapters, or just yours) and nothing works...

The major problem is that there isn't even the "ethernet" settings in the settings page of the phone.
And as said, configuring eth0 through terminal emulator, requires root.

no answer on this? i just bought a docking station for my p30 pro (realizing i can actually have a decent desktop wherever i go), everything is indeed working but i definitely need ethernet settings which are non-existing anywhere in the EMUI
edit: i don't want to root my phone, i use it daily and i cant use some apps on a rooted device
Hi guys !
I just wanted to know for a Huawei P20 pro, is there a possibility of configuring the ethernet IP address and Netmask when connecting to RJ45 adapter ?. It works fine when connecting to the router. I just want to connect it to a car's OBD port and I have to set the IP and Netmask manually to accomplish that. I noticed that, eathernet configuration is available on Samsung and OnePlus phones but it's not with Huawei. We have only one option which is selecting RNDIS (eathernet) in devleloper options.

Dear,
There's no chance of configuring the Ethernet IP address on P20 pro, even if it's rooted which is very hard to get bootloader unlock code nowadays. My need for configured Ethernet connection is similar to yours. I wanted for Bootmod3 and XHP flashtool. So, i gave up and bought cheap Samsung (A12) and it did the job. I'd suggest you to go for Samsung of a recent model. Make sure it supports Ethernet before buying which can be found on Settings>connections>more connection settings. Its a better option than buying the wireless adaptor, because you'll be able access all the BMW tuning and coding apps from one device. Knowing that, the price is almost the same.
In case you bought Samsung of USB-C 2.0, note that, USB-C 3.1 to RJ-45 adaptor will not be recognised by the phone. It has to be 2.0
Phones that have the option of configuring ethernet IP address that i know of:
-Samsung
-I phone
All the best !
I have the same problem. I bought an adapter and I cannot set the ip of the adapter statically. The same adapter on the Samsung phone has the same option as in the screenshots. Someone handled it? I am using a p40 pro where root is impossible. I support Samsung without any problems: /
Hi,
neither my Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 (xiaomi.eu beta) nor the Xiaomi Redmi 5 (stock Xiaomi) of my girlfriend can successfully connect to a new VW Golf 7. Both are running latest MIUI version, everything up to date. Data connection is enabled, USB Debugging too, we tried several cables, no Dual Apps. Once a phone is connected and Data Connection is chosen an error is displayed that a connection is not possible, USB then switches back to charging.
This is very frustrating. I found many reports about problems, most of them could be solved by using different cables or disabling Dual App. Both Xiaomis should work with Android Auto and App Connect, at least that's what (some) people claim.
Any ideas what to test?
I use AA on a 2019 VW Polo with my Mi 9. I dont choose data transfer, just charging is enough. You need to download latest AA app and i dont have USB debugging enabled because data transfer with USB debugging always causes trouble.

I had the same problem on my mk7 jetta and in my case it was caused by having the USB modem activated on my phone (I often use my phone as a WiFi USB modem for a desktop computer not equipped with WiFi card). Turning back every USB option to normal/off did the trick for me. USB debug is not required.
Did you fix erro?
Helo, did you fix erro? I'm with the problem like you!
Hello everyone,
Im trying to connect my phone (redmi note 10 pro MFF edition (europe)) with a rj45 cable to avoid wifi signal in my house. In my old samsung its connected directly, but with the xiaomi nothing happen, I dont find the option for ethernet neither.
Did any one try this ? Its just a software problem ( MIUI system) or more hardware. Since im still waiting to unlock my bootloader, Cannot try with a custom room to see if the problem persevere.
Thank you all for the feedback
any feedback ?
I do not have the Redmi Note 10 Pro, but some general questions:
1. Did you disable Wifi and enable Airplane mode?
2. Which adapter did you use?
I disabled the wifi and enable the airplane mode, but nothing change.
I use this adapter https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B07CR79XM7/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, work as charm on my old samsung.
The issue is that in miui we dont have any ethernet interface to configurate the dhcp or other stuff.

I thought the issue was that you had no connection. I have no idea about the MiUI. So if the issue is that you get no connection these might be some obstacles:
I found a discussion (for the Redmi Note 8/Pro/8T) on the mi forum (https://c.mi.com/thread-3003395-3-1.html) where a person describes that he thinks the issue might be the chipset. Your ethernet adapter uses the 8152B chipset, but he says that it seems like you would need an adapter with a AX88179 chipset. An ethernet adapter that supports the AX88179 chipset is the https://plugable.com/products/usbc-e1000/.
Another user in the same discussion says that it works for him with the j5create adapter (https://c.mi.com/oc/thread-3003395-1-0.html), although he states that nothing indicates that he is connected. (For some reason I didn't find any information on their website about what chipset their adapter uses, so we don't know for sure if the chipset is the issue.)
But let me re-emphasize that I do not know whether that really is the issue or whether it works with one of these adapter. So be aware of that.
If the ethernet is still not working the issue might be that the kernel wasn't configured for Ethernet over USB. You can find a lot more information about these things here: https://android.stackexchange.com/questions/225643/how-to-make-ethernet-work-on-android-over-otg
If you actually decide to buy a new ethernet adapter, please let me/us know whether it worked.
Thank you Ponyo71 for this intersting feedback,
I think its myabe a doubel raison : first hardware and secone software.
I get the same issue with my mibox 3, she dont regonis all the usb rj45 adapter, only the ugreen worked and another 2$ adapter that I get from discountshop.
the software raison is the only part that we can modify easly, I know that xiaomi reduce alot of option from android to optimise the battery or to not show that the chipset used is very powerfull for some specific utilisation. nad since the chipset used for wifi and BT probably is the same that manage the ethernet.
The xiaomi coast cheap, Its's normal that they bypass some non essentiel used option. More, i think if it's a option htaht only less than 5% of people use, they will supress it from miui to save and manage the battery.
Anyway, Now im back to samsung, no more xiaomi for me
Seems like it really is the chipset, since the ugreen adapter uses the AX88179 chipset. And apparently it works with your MiBox 3. So I guess it really is your ethernet adapter and not the software, although I can’t say for sure.
In this case, we will get at least the ethernet configuration but disabled. in MIUI we dont have any ethernet parameter. The software has a part of the problem
Yeah, seems like MiUI has no configuration options for Ethernet.
Hello all,
I have updated my P30 pro to version VOGUE-L29C 10.1.0.179(C431E23R2P5) according to instructions posted here (dload). So far so good. Unfortunately, the smartphone is now no longer recognized by any PC via USB. Old backups from a USB stick can also not be used. It can only be charged via USB. I have already tried to check the USB port via the menu *#*#2846579#*#*. No preassignment is displayed. Setting any option has no effect.
I also can't reset the smartphone with any older version. I have tried several. The update reports an error when checking and restarts the smartphone. Recovery is also blocked so I can't perform a wipe.
Has anyone else observed this effect and possibly a solution or a tip for me? My main problem is that no file or photo transfer is possible via USB.
In the developer options, all settings for ADB via USB, USB file transfer and OEM unlock were enabled.
Thanks for your time and support.
Best regards from Germany.
Andreas
I've had that problem on a p30 pro. Headphones, TV out, super charging all worked, but not data connection to pc, absolutely no reaction besides charging. I've read that forcing update did that to some phones, but updating from phone to the next version would solve that. Didn't solve it for me, when it updated... I could access its memory using Huawei share and network neighborhood from Files. Bought it that way and sold it after 1 month.
