Hi Guys
well did a search and couldn't find a topic about this, however if there is Sorry.
Anyways got my 02-Uk simplicity yesterday and set 3g and MMS up all fine, and was working fine, however today I came to work which is a bit out in the sticks so hard to get a 3g signal, and because of this i noticed I lost all signal.
after playing around I noticed that switiching it to "2g networks" i managed to get a full edge connection. My question is how come if it loses the 3g connection does it not revert back to a 2g network? I know there is a 2g connection beacuse if i do it manually it works. is there a way to do it automaticly?
also i do have data roaming connection active, and can post my APN details if anyone thinks that will help reslove the issue.
Thanks
matt
Brought mine in to t-mobile to ask the same question. they said just stick to 2g only when you're not in a known 3g area. They also recommended just turning data roaming off
I have the same problem with my Goophone Y6.
2 solutions I know:
1) Flightmode on/off
2) Reboot
This is very anoying, because the bug apperas again. One question: Do you lose signal when you turn your display off or after approximately 5 minutes?
Hi, I'm having a chronic, inconsistent, and confusing problem. At certain times -- often for 20 minuets or more at a shot -- I will have extraordinarily slow or no data capability on my AT&T Nexus One despite having four full bars: even simple webpages (Google searches, Wikipedia pages, etc...) will take minutes to load or will not load at all, generating error messages. The behavior is inconsistent: sometimes my internet will be fine, and sometimes it will be useless, and I can't figure out why.
I've tried hard-resetting my phone but have quickly run into the same problem. It must be either a physical issue with my device or a problem with some specific app I've got installed. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Alan
What does the data icon show when there's "no data"?
Does it show "G"?
In that case, it's not surprising. Bars aren't a good representation of your data capability - because they don't tell you what type of network you're on. You can have great GPRS reception, and the data rate will be awful (12kbps at best).
If the data icon shows "3G" or "H" - then it might be something with your phone's apps.
Thanks for the response -- I'm 98% sure that it still says 3G when the data stops work. I wanted to check this for sure before responding, but the data dropout hasn't happened since you wrote: I've had background data turned off for the last 24 hours in a shot-in-the-dark attempt to get to the bottom of this, and data's been fine ever since; so perhaps this all has something to do with something that's getting out of control when pulling down background data?
Alan
Well, it's happened again. I'm attaching a picture, for what it's worth, showing the Nexus One unable to get any data despite having four bars of 3G. Any ideas? The problem is intermittent and unpredictable.
Any ideas on how to get to the bottom of this? Do I need to wipe the phone and load apps one by one? Is there any chance that this could be a hardware issue?
Thanks, Alan
Wiping the phone and trying a very minimal set of apps would probably be the best shot.

Four bars of 3g? That's measuring phone signal strength not data speeds.
Sent from my Google Phone
Right -- I understand that the four bars indicate signal strength, but what circumstances would lead to my getting _no_ data despite having four bars of 3G? We're not talking slow data, we're talking about _nothing_ coming through, leading to web pages timing out, sync generating "data connectivity problem" errors, etc... I don't think this is a normal occurrence, even with AT&T.
He just told you. Your bar signal has nothing at all to do with data. You do not have 4 bars of 3g. You just have 4 bars of cell signal. The two do not have anything to do with each other.
Sounds like you do have some kind of problem though. When you are in a area with no data or 2g the data icon should change accordingly.
Stop looking and thinking that your bars have anything to do with data speeds though.

Wrong -- you don't understand that the four bars indicate PHONE signal strength, you know, like can you hear me now? find out your providers apn and enter it manually. does the browser work? Does wifi work?

I'm on AT&T, and the APN settings look OK. They are:
Name: Cingular 410
APN: wap.cingular
Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
Port: 80
Username:[email protected]
Password:CINGULAR1
Server: cingulargprs.com
MMSC: http://mmsc.cingular.com
MMS Proxy: wireless.cingular.com
mms protocol: wap 2.0
MMS Port: not set
MCC:310
MNC:410
Authentication type: not set
APN type: default,supl,mms
What changes should I try making which might solve this problem of intermittently getting no data access? (The browser works fine when data is flowing properly. But there are these occasional periods -- lasting minutes at a time -- when I get no data. When that happens, of course, the browser times out and generates error messages. I haven't been able to figure out conclusively if WIFI works during those periods.)
Thanks, Alan
[I should add that this didn't used to be an issue with my Nexus One. Something has changed in the past month or so -- either on my phone or in AT&T's network -- to make this suddenly a chronic problem.]
Did you already try using *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer and selecting "WCDMA only" in the "Phone information" area?
Also, obviously, make sure you have a data connection, not just bars (if you have four bars and no "3G", "H", etc, then you have no data connection - reset your radio!)
Did you pay your bill on time?
Sent from my CM7 G2
Thanks, everyone! Yes, I've paid the bill on time, and it always says 3G in the notifications bar on top. This is an intermittent and chronic but not a constant problem -- there's generally one or two five-ten minute periods every day where I'll have no data.
I'm trying the "WCDMA only" setting now; I'll report back if it makes a difference.
Thanks, Alan
Hmmm .... Well, I've had another data blackout event (lasted about 7 minutes) since changing the phone to "WCMDA only." During the blackout, I couldn't pull any data down over Wifi either. Now everything is fine again. Does anyone have any idea what would cause periods of no data access over 3G _and_ Wifi?
Thanks!

when this happens what are the arrows next to 3G doing?
On a side note... What configuration has been thought as a battery saver?

What ROM are you using? Are you on stock or using a custom ROM? Also, did you try wiping cache and dalvik already? This sometimes fixes weird bugs for me.
Are you roaming when this happens? On my AT&T band N1, sporadically throughout the day it will be "roaming" on AT&T's network even though I have AT&T as my provider. To fix I just manually select AT&T on the network selection screen. It might help you?
Btw, have any of you heard of the problem I'm having?
EDIT: I just realized that on my APN settings the password for wap.cingular wasn't entered. This might fix it I suppose; We'll see.
Also, instead of setting WCDMA only, shouldn't he set it to the one that prefers the EDGE network over 3G if it is the 3G network that isn't responding? Maybe he just has iffy 3G in his area.
Guys I have an odd problem.
Where I live, the signal on the HTC One switches erratically and constantly between H+, H and 3G. At every switch of course the data connection goes offline. It's driving me crazy.
Is there a way to force the phone to one of the three: 3G or H or H+?
Please see image 01.
I've tried going into *#*#4636#*#* but the choices baffle me (see image 02). I've tried a few of the available choices but it seems that 3G, H and H+ fall into the same category.
It's probably a dead end, I can't imagine what else to do ..... has anyone else had the same issue?
The 3G logo means it's on voice only, and H+/H means there's data incoming/outgoing. They're using the same radios and frequencies, it's more like an idle state when it shows 3G. 3G will still periodically go up to H+/H to check for any incoming data then goes back to sleep at 3G.
I have the same problem with my connexion. It is only stable when I have the "3G" symbol. I did not find a way to force "3G". It seems the switch to "H" is on demand...

It's normal behaviour, if you have a good H connection it will switch to this when there is data traffic but when there isn't it will switch between 3G and H
The signal on my Sony Xperia SP fluctuates all the time and changes mode from H to H+ quite a bit, and when I pick the phone up it usually disappears to nothing and I lose signal.
Is there a fix for this? Does anyone else experience this problem?
Made a video to show what I mean https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQVTygYlK-k
It is normal that the signal changes from time to time. Normaly a connection is just H and when available it will switch to H+ when the network is in use.
What I advice at first is a new sim card. This does fix most of the network signal issues

Its normal. You have poor HSDPA signal in your area. Switch to 2G Only Mode when you don't need fast internet connection via data packets.
It will hold better signal (of course if you have 2g transmitters in your area) don't switch modes at all so battery drain is also a little less.
I've seen a number of threads where people post about their device dropping network data connectivity, and needing a reboot to solve it.
My issue is a bit different. Occasionally (I've noticed it 3-4 times today) when I go to send a text (SMS) or to use a data enabled service like Hangouts, that my phone shows no bars at all.. not even just no data, but the bars are grey and there's a red x. I wait about 15 seconds and it reconnects, then another 10 seconds later, the data is live again.
Phone is a private sale and under 1 month old, and all the Stamina functions are off.. I do see that the "Queue background Data" is turned on, but I don't think this should effect, no?
Not sure what digits I should be looking at to know if this might be a hardware vs software issue.. build is listed as .93
Im no stranger to unlocking and flashing, but I've kept this stock cuz it's tight and I adore the battery life.
Suggestions?

check in settings in network and set your network to the one you use , like gm/wcdma /lte , maybe your phone is strugling to find 3g or 4g , try it , who knows it might solve the issue , ty
Been about a month since I posted, and I'm still experiencing this issue. I often thumb my phone on and it's not connected. I don't really mind waiting for the 30 seconds or so that it takes to jump back on the network, but it often means I miss calls, and since it's my business phone, it kinda bums me out to suddenly get a VM notification of a missed call even though it never rang.
Is there some sort of utility that I can use to monitor the network activity to see how frequently it drops, and for how long? I've looked into ones on Play but they don't seem to have a history, just something that shows what data up and down is currently being reported.
Sadly the only Sony store in my city (and I think the country - Canada) has recently closed for good, so I'm not sure how to go about warranty repairs...

I don't have a solution, but I can tell you that you're not alone. I've been experienced the same thing on my Z3C. I sometimes wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that the MVNO I use doesn't support 4G LTE.

Interesting.. Your issue isn't just data, but a complete network disconnection? Im with Fido which is an MVNO under Rogers, but I thought they supported LTE. The issue also persists even on wifi

Yes, it seems to be a complete loss of the mobile connection. When I wake the phone I see gray bars and a red X on the signal strength indicator. Within seconds the phone re-acquires and the indicator goes to 2 or 3 bars. I have also seen it happen with wifi active. The frustrating part is that it doesn't seem to do it often enough to troubleshoot. I'll notice the problem maybe a couple of times a month and there's nothing obviously different about my usage patterns in those instances.
Mine does it at least a dozen times a day. I can only assume this as I frequently miss calls and at least 3-4 times a day I see it happen. =(
Same Problem
Randomly I have no connection at all but after a few seconds everything wents back to normal. Did not have this problem with T-mobile in Germany but with with O2 I have. With T-mobile I had LTE but with O2 I don't, so I guess that's the reason.
Interesting... I've disabled LTE and now have it on 3g/GSM. We'll see how it works moving forward, and I'll post again in a week. Stay tuned.
Service Providers
In the mobile network settings one can change the service provider manually. With LTE enabled my provider has three entries: LTE, 3G and 2G. Connecting two LTE fails, because my provider blocked it in my plan. Having LTE enabled, it often tries to connect to LTE I assume. I switched off LTE and set the provider manually to 3G. Maybe that helps. We'll see.

Interesting.. I have LTE as part of my network and plan... But once I made changes to the settings as I indicated, I no longer receive the network drops I originally experienced.. I might just be missing the alerts, but it seems fixed... #crossedfingers
