Can someone with an OTG hard-drive check what speed they get when transferring files?
When I transfer files from my portable hard-drive via USB to my old budget Xiaomi Mi 9T, I get stable 30-32 MBps speed:
mi 9t
Watch "mi 9t" on Streamable.
streamable.com
But when I copy the same file to my Zenfone 8, the speed is fluctuating between 2 MBps and 15 MBps:
zenfone 8
Watch "zenfone 8" on Streamable.
streamable.com
The speed is fine when copying files directly from my laptop.
Not every phone goes cool with every USB cable, not at file transfer, not at charge, and some may even trigger incompatibility alarm on your phone.
I even tried RN10's USB (which is very fast on Redmi) on a Samsung phone, it was like .. very slow. Same thing happened when I used Samsung's USB on a Huawei phone.
Yeah depends on what you use. I tried a Samsung u3 micro SD card in a Kingston card reader connected via a Samsung Type-C/OTG adapter
https://streamable.com/9pvdrz
Use a different cable/port. Reboot.
Check settings on the phone in Developer options if you have that.
Clear system cache, hard reboot.
Windows:
Check Event Viewer for error messages.
Try updating or rolling back drivers.

USB. Or try turning Developer options off.

How do I connect my phone to my computer? I prefer charging via my computer (not sure if recommend) and it would be nice to be able to put music and pictures on via my iMac (running newest version of Lion). I don't have an SD card, so maybe it's just not picking it up cause I don't have one?
But I downloaded the Android app, which says it requires Android 3.0 or higher, but I tried it and it just crashes whenever my phone is plugged in.
I don't understand the way the memory is done on this phone, why does it have "usb memory" and why does it have to load every time I turn the phone on?
Why isn't it all just phone memory? To me thats basically "you have 2GB for phone stuff, the rest is just for music and picture". Can you put apps on there? and phone stuff?

To Connect iMac with android, I recommend you androidfiletransfer (you Can find it on the web)
Difficult to explain the storage system of android but "sd card" is for internal storage while the common sd card is indicated as "external_sd"

Like I said in my post. It says it requires 3.0 or higher. Note runs 2.6.3 so can't use it.

Sounds odd to me, given that I have Note too.
Other way could be to install kies for mac, even though I read somewhere that the last version doesn't recognize Note.
The fact is that I used to have kies for mac on my macbook but I uninstalled it and the note is still recognized as usb storage (when I connect Note to usb, I need to connect the Note by clicking on "connect" on the notification window).
Does usb icon appear on your notification bar?
Other possible problem could be Lion, I use snowleopard so I can't say if the problem is due to the new iOSX.
Bytheway, just to answer your other question: no, it's preferrable to charge Note via domestic plug. The charger is 1A, specifically for Note

There is a USB logo on the notification on my phone. And when I go into setting on my iMac it says connected android, but can't click on it from them. and it doesn't show anywhere else.
On my sisters android whenever I would connect it it would pop up with something on her phone choosing what mode to put the phone in. Not doing that on my one.
edit: I've downloaded Kies.. but isn't picking up my phone.
edit 2: Says it only works with certain phones
Try Airdroid if you're on the same network, it's a pretty awesome app.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
Why dont you just use the mass storage mode? Plug it in and the internal memory will show up like a usb drive on your desktop.
are you using mtp mode or have you selected usb debugging?
Hi,
I bought a new Mi A2 a couple of weeks ago.
I've just tried connecting it to my PC (which runs Windows 7) but file transfers are dead slow. Every time I plug it in i get a warning that it could perform much faster using a USB 2.0 port.
I tried installing drivers (using a file named adb-setup-1.4.3.exe that i found on many websites. The problem still persists after updating the drivers.
I also tried installing the Mi suite but it doesn't recognize my phone (I've read Mi suite is out of date and won't work with current Android versions)
Surely there must be a way that I can transfer files to and from my PC at normal speeds like I've been doing for years with plenty of other Android phones?
Hmm, mine works just fine... Try switching the physical USB port. Maybe the one you are using is damaged. Also check if the cable and the type C port on your phone are dirty.
Mine is same
But no one accept it
You can use Mi Drop.
You need FTP client for PC, like FileZilla, and connect your smartphone and PC to the same wifi network.
Mi A2 may have a USB Type C port but appears to only support USB 2.0 (480 Mbps).
I recently transferred 40GBs of music files:
First through FTP (which took an hour plus via 802.11ac)
Wire (3.1 thunderbolt cable which took half the time)
and found that transfer was slow regardless.
I have quick solution.
Connect you Mi A2 Phone to PC and select file Transfer Option in Phone
Go to C drive >> Windows >> INF >>wpdmtp.inf
Right click and install. Now you can access files
Just use the Mi Drop.
you can use FTP Server for high speed file transfer, with internal network speed

Your Mi A2 connects to Mi PC Suite?! Is it stock ROM?
I'm on latest stock update, latest Mi PC Suite version, all drivers in PC updated and ADB through other softwares working perfect, and original mi cable that came with phone. It still does not connect to Mi PC Suite. Never did since I bought this device in september '18. I think Mi PC Suite is only for MIUI devices.
Try installing Qualcomm Driver by searching somewhere in the dev sec.
So i bought a used A2 for 5500 INR.
At first i thought it was a bargain but soon it turned out to be a nightmare.
The phone is full of bugs.
Worst one is that the phone only charges through the usb port. No data transfer of any sort. like an old nokia pin charger.
OTG doesn't work. It doesn't connect to the PC.
Whenever I plug in the OTG/connect it to pc, the usb options are all greyed out (same in the developers options default usb preference).
I can't even use Gcam now bcoz the PC doesn't recognise the device at all, so can't enable Camera2api, can't root, can't install ROMS... can't even buy a new phone cuz i have no money ???
turns out my phone also have the slow Emmc issue ?....read speeds are okay but write speeds are very slow... specially Random write (~10mBps).
I read many people have faced this issues. All those Posts are old, has anyone found a solution.

I am also facing same issue. Can't transfer data using USB Cable
Hey guys, as the title says - I am having difficulty with transferring files across from my Samsung S21 Ultra to my PC.
I have tried:
- Developer mode, enable USB Debug
- ^ + set default debug to be FTP
- keypad *#0808# and select MTP+ADB
- In the notification bar, clicked the 'charging' notification (that sends me to battery, not to pick another option)
I do not have the original samsung cable as it was of poor quality and failed after 2 months however I am using Anker cables, I use them for file transfers on other devices such as cameras, VR headsets and other phones - they work perfectly fine on everything except my S21 Ultra. I have also tried different PCs/Laptops in case its a driver issue.
Phone specs:
Model number - SM-G998B/DS
Running the latest version of Android.
If anyone can help me, that would be great. I really don't want to factory reset as that means losing the things I want to keep anyway which is just a lose lose.
If you can't find a solution quickly right now, then just use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.primftpd&hl=en_US&gl=US
FE Explorer can also do something similar.
Or, Samsung Flow or something else.
Also, are you mostly trying this on Windows or something else?
Ensure usb-drivers for Samsung phones are installed on your pc. E.g. by installing smartswitch on you pc.

No need to install anything.
If it's Windows, just go to Windows Update at some point after you connect the phone.
Click "Check for Updates" and/or go into "Optional Updates" and you'll find that the driver is waiting to be installed ON YOUR COMMAND.

Surely I wouldn't need an additional app to transfer files? I'm doing this on the latest build of Windows 10 21H2 and also on a Windows 11 laptop, my P20 Pro transfers just fine but the S21 Ultra doesn't read anything as something other than a charger.

Do you have super display installed? I had an issue where I had super display installed and could not connect my phone for file transfer until I turned the super display service off in my services on Windows.
I am having the same issue and as I can recall it was after the recent update strange may be.
Open driver manager from within control panel, right click on portable devices and update MTP driver for Samsung phone. Press allow on your phone and you should be good to go.
I'm using Solid Explorer over WiFI, no issues
If you're using a corporate windows you need to install the media feature pack. Otherwise just try a different cable, some don't work. I had the same issue when using my old huawei cable, used the one that came with s21u and was fine.
Try disabling DeX in the phone settings. It worked for me..
Just a quick question guys, does the S21 Ultra come with a USB 3 data speed cable or is that something I'd have to buy on amazon etc. Thanks.
Trying to look at pictures on computer (been taking lots of them with this camera)
accessing data is stupid slow and it doesn't make sense
phone unlocked with allow data transfer selected
oneplus charger to usb b port at front of case "equally as slow with usb c at back of motherboard" so I dont think the cable is the bottleneck
I feel like ive tried everything including enabling usb debugging (dont know why but I havent been into tech to the level of this amazing forum since I was young so forgive me if answer is obvious google was useless)
Thanks, D

to clarify transfer is what to be expected but the loading of thumbnails and data amount or size. once youve loaded all of them its fast.
but it takes a few minutes sometimes.
phones generally have good SSDS so does my computer processors on the phone is good, I cant find the bottleneck, does every device do this???
Windows need to read all your photo, every time you connect the phone. And if you have many photos... it could take some minutes ...
For example my Lenovo Legion y540 with i7 gen9 12mb cache, 16gb ram dual chanel, SSD Samsung 980 Pro 256gb for Windows & Samsung 870 Evo 2 Tb for storage. In my case it takes a few minutes. 2, 3 -5 minuntes. Yes is annoying !

If you use the stock Oneplus red cable between the phone and the desktop, it most likely is a 2.0 spec C-type cable (most likely, at least the one that came with my 9 Pro is). Go buy a 3.1 C-type cable (nowadays USB 3.2 Gen 2) or 3.2 C-type cable (nowadays USB 3.2 Gen 2x2)

That's annoying, I thought the point of a thumbnail was a low res picture for quick access. You'd think in 2022 we'd have a better way.

Ok so at 2.0 speeds 480 Mbps, suppose all pictures are 15 mb big and they're 1500 of them I'd take 48 seconds to see them all (high res no less)
(But they're not because you click on them and it takes an additional 7 ish seconds to load the image when opened. )
By this logic using a 3.0 cable (4800mbps) ( if ssd supports the speed) should only take about 5 seconds for all images
And it does not because I've used a c to c pixel cable to connect.
So they're must be a software bottleneck preventing a few things
The thumbnail should be small and in turn it should really take no longer than a couple seconds to load low res images ( unless these thumbnails don't exist on the phone and they have to be generated once the phone is plugged in)
It could also be a Windows issue (anyone have a mac that could try accessing their data through the file browser) just like the search feature in Windows takes ages and it's often so bad it can usually be faster finding the file manually it could be a matter of a broken or outdated protocol to read files off a device.
All I'm saying with all of these advertised speeds 5 minutes for 1000 5mb (yes not 15) and a couple big videos is too damn long. I'll be trying to see if there are any softwares out there that let you read of your device in a similar way itunes ( does itunes still exist??) does with apple devices

I have a usb3 10gbps cable and it still runs at slow speeds. I think that it's only USB 2.0 over type C
Maybe the 10 Pro has slower USB type C then, my 9 Pro is way faster with a 3.1 cable.
are using a usb 3 port on your computer?
i don't have any issues with transfer speeds.
I forgot to mention, my laptop have only usb 3.1 ports & 1 type C for charging.. & Windows 11 Pro x64.
Type C ports are produced in different versions, from 2.0 from 3.2.
Thumbnail are not the problem. I set my View with Details & select the newer first. Same amount of time. Still the green bar charge all hundreds of photos. Like i have a hdd from 20 years...
