How to get USB 480Mbit (USB 2.0) Speed ???

Hi,
the Kaiser has USB-speed specified with 480 Mbit, but the speed to put onto it some MP3s via ActiveSync is not much faster than with my Magician (USB1.1) before. If I put in my computer directly the MicroSD card (max 5MB/sec) it is much faster although 5MB/sec << 480 Mbit. So the weak point is not the card. Is there any idea to increase the speed filling my card via direct USB connection ?

Your usb data speed depends on what your com port is set to. if you have alot of usb ports then they share the bandwidth between them. so you may only get 20% of your actuall bandwidth if you have a few other usb devices sharing the bandwidth. you can go to your device manager on your pc and increase the percentage your com port uses of the bandwidth

and you may be right, if I had a lot of devices conncted to my PC. But I have not. The point is: If I put the microsd into an USB adaptor and connected to the PC, it is quite fast, if I took the Kaiser connecting it ti the same USB, it is slow.
Any other thoughts?

This holds true for all PDA devices connected via USB...not just the Kaiser...activesync may be the bottleneck.

Ok,
if ActiveSync may be the bottleneck, how do you work around this slow copy-process? With CardExpord it is quite faster than with ActiveSync (thanks for the hint), but still far away from the limit :
To copy 58 MB from PC to Magician via CardExport - it needed 94 sec
58 MB from PC to Kaiser via CardExport - 69 sec
58 MB from PC to Kaiser via ActiveSync - 235 sec
58 MB from PC to Card via USB Adaptor - 12 sec = 39 MB/ sec
Anybody any idea to increase the speed of CardExport, there is still much room left ?

Most SW connecting to your PDA for file transfer do it through Activesync which as stated before is a bad bottleneck (its sloooow).
You are also using the file handling system of the PDA via this method and any number of background tasks will slow this down.
WM5torage (there is a thread running on here) gets around using Activesync so it may be worthwhile contacting the author to see if this will work for you or wether it could be modified for your purposes.

Read the specs carefully. It says "USB 2.0 Full Speed". Don't confuse Full Speed (12 Mbps) with High Speed (480 Mbps). What HTC is doing when they say this is commonly called "deception"!
Has anyone tried ActiveSync over Bluetooth to test whether the Kaiser supports EDR?

EDR (Enhanced data rate) is fully implemented on this device as was not the case with the TyTn (Hermes) and you will find some of my old threads in there about this very subject that you have placed within this thread ( not whatsoever to do with the first post I may add!!)

and as pda's cant keep up with fast flash cards
it's silly to believe that pda's could keep up with

I am a bit disappointed of the advertised 480 Mbit (ok in manual there is mentioned USB 2.0 full speed) but I can only see an advatage of 25% against my old Magician with USB 1.1. and even 12 Mbps (USB 2.0 full speed) should result in douple speed as the measured. I did not expect 480 Mbit, but a bit more speed, than currently offered.

Sorry Farsquidge, that my comment about video driver issues was spiced with a pinch of sarcasm. But here I am trying to be purely factual.
EDR is clearly mentioned as supported. I haven't tried this myself yet. But this will probably be slower than ActiveSync over USB as Bluetooth 2.0+EDR is 3 Mbps compared to Full Speed USB at 12 Mbps.

Yep, it could be taken as misleading.
I have never actually synced with BT as I only have my usb cable at work but I have just tried it and it seems much faster than cable connect. May just bring my charger from now on!

USB speeds are the maximum theoretical badwidth of the hardware, and are much highe than what can actually be achieved... Throw in ActiveSync, and USB speed is virtually meaningless...

USB 2.0 was missunderstood as 480 Mbit by several (!) professional journals and websites testing mobiles and PDAs and -reading that- by me. Ok my mistake - next time I will directly come here and look for spec...
What I read in the threads above is:
"Mobile has USB 2.0, but do not expect 480 Mbit as it's only full speed, but don't be silly to believe to get real 12 Mbit as there is a big difference between hardware and spec. You really have to be satisfied, if you get real 6.5 Mbit, which is 25% faster than the USB 1.1 Magician."
In the end I am happy, not to get slower...

Kaiser slow USB PC to PDA data transfer

i boght my Kaiser form a friend about 3 days ago and it has hyperdragon IV (september 2008 release) ROM on it.
my complain about it is that the data transfer between pc and fone is very slow. it takes about 17-20 minutes to copy a 175mb file on the fone's SD HC 4gb card (while the card is in the fone). i connect the fone in ActiveSync mode.
in SETTINGS/CONNECTION/USB TO PC i cannot select the option DISK DRIVE as it says that this option need a memory card in the device and it asks me to insert the card. the card is already there, i have files and programs installed on it. what can i do to speed up my transfers?

To be honest 17-20 minutes for 175MB doesn't sound that far out. Transfer speeds will be less than USB 1.1. If its just small files I use ActiveSync, if its anything big (Maps etc) then I use a Micro-SD/USB memory card reader which is much, much faster.
As for your issues with the DISK DRIVE option in the USB connection settings I would post for help in the HyperDragon thread (or search the thread first...)

I agree with Andy, that's a question for that ROM's thread. I'm running a 6.5 rom and have the same problem.
USB1.1 is slow and it's the nature of the beast. If you're going to transfer a lot of files, pull the MicroSD and buzz the files over manually.

With ActiveSync is normal speed ...if you want more speed you can use a version of Softick Card Export and you can transfer with 700-800 KB/s ...and if you want much more speed use a card reader.

i understand what r saying . but i must correct u : on GSMARENA it says that the fone has USB 2.0.

The phone is USB2.0 compliant, meaning it can be used on a USB2.0 host, but that doesn't mean it supports the "hi-speed" mode added by USB2.0. And it indeed doesn't.

I think is something strange with data transfer using USB ...probably antothers missing drivers ...I don't know.

I think USB2.0 means hi-speed, if it not supports it isn't USB 2.0 ....is USB 1.1 or USB 1.0 ...maybe I'm wrong ...but if somebody have more knowledges about USB please corect me.

These days USB 2.0 is pretty much synonymous with Hi Speed but when USB 2.0 first came out it could also mean 'Full Speed' and you had to be careful not to get 'tricked' into a 'Full Speed' (vs. Hi Speed) bit of kit.
This topic has been done to death in several threads, heres one I contributed to slow copying to SD card Note the fact that it's not so much the USB hardware limitations that cause it to be as slow as treacle, it's the huge bottleneck that Microsoft (in)Activesync imposes (hence why copying to a card reader on a USB 1.1 port is still much faster than using Activesync via a USB 2.0 Port). Activesync is really a major weakness with Microsofts Mobile Phone OS Strategy IMO.

Well I just said it above!
USB2.0 includes all 3 speeds, low, full and high. So a device that only uses full speed is included in the standard. Compliance with USB2.0 means that the device will work on an USB2.0 concentrator, that's all. This because at the beginning of USB2.0 you usually had both USB2.0 and USB1.1 ports on computers, and some USB1.1 devices would not work if connected to USB2.0 ports due to stricter timing requirements.
People now assume that USB2.0 = High speed, but as Flying Kiwi said it it's only because it is true in the majority of cases, in the books it's not a requirement.

Bionic plus USB 3 = Blue Screen of Death on windows 7

I have a Samsung series 7 chronos with 2 USB 3 slots and one USB 2 slot. ok..
I have the Droid Bionic. have had it for about 2 months. I got tired of the camera slowness and battery crush and etc, and saw on these forums that 5.7.893 has lots of fixes.
Having no fear of root I did it. The camera is wicked faster, I get at least 1/2 the battery life I used to have..all is good.
however, I used to be able to connect to ANY of the USB ports on the laptop with no problem. Now, when I connect the Bionic to one of the USB 3 slots (only, the USB 2 slot works fine), I get a BlueSOD on windows 7 after about 3 seconds.
Heres the specifics. If I connect and the the phone is set on USB charging, its fine...If I pick Windows Media Syn, PC mode, or Mass Storage device, the computer immediately goes to Blue screen of death. Specifically

I have deleted the motorola drivers, cleaned and reloaded them...nada
I am at a loss...AM I going to have to go back to stock on the Bionic to fix this?
Any suggestions at all?

TRUST me,sometimes when the driver corruption happens N0THING but a windows format&reinstall will fix it not even the second coming of christ... sorry to tell ya

Might be a problem with the ram or hard drive on your computer since you have c writing error.
I recommend doing a disk cleanup and freeing some space on your computer
Then running checkdisk on your PC in case you have a currupt file system or bad sectors.
I could be wrong and it could be something else all together, but when the BSOD appears like that, I would investigate my Video card, RAM, Processor/chipset, and Hardrive/filesystem. It's usually one of them that's the culprit.

its either what you say or he had a virus and didnt know it, pc got cleaned but the virus screwed something up

I am getting blue screen when awaking from sleep with an iPhone or iPod Touch connected to the USB port. Works fine on the USB 2 ports. I haven't tried an iPod 4g to see if it's related to iOS, but it is definitely related to the USB 3.

Just wanted to let you know: I have the same Bluescreen on my Samsung Series 7 Gaming Laptop (700g7a) & my Nokia N8 Handy. When I connect it in Sync-Mode to an USB 3 port > BSOD
To me it looks like a driver problem on Samsung's side. Our Laptops may share the same drivers/hardware combo on the USB part.

AFAIK, XHCI is for "legacy" USB3 support. Any way to disable that in your BIOS (as there is in mine) and see if that helps?

I get same bsod here with Motorola Atrix, win7x64.

EXTREMELY slow USB speeds

Howdy y'all,
I noticed this first on my purely-stock ROM, and I was hoping that ViperROM might fix this, but no luck. When copying files to or from the internal storage to my Windows 8 64-bit ultrabook, it takes about 45 minutes for 500 megabytes. To back up my phone, I have to leave it transferring literally all night.
I know that my laptop has ONLY USB 3.0 ports, so I don't know if this somehow causes a problem with the HTC One? As annoying as it sounds, I might have try getting the USB host cable and using a standalone stick to transfer this stuff.
A little off-topic, but I'm really starting to get impacted by this lack of storage... 32GB? That's abysmal... I take my photos in Zoe mode, and I filled up my storage the first weekend I owned this thing, with casual sightseeing camera use. I have to keep copying things off weekly to make this phone work for me. Anyone have some USB-related tips, by chance?

Hmmm...that's strange. Coming from a GS3 the transfer speed on this is considerably fast, and I can even see imagine previews. (I never could before with MTP). I transferred about 2 GB in pictures and it took around 17 minutes

My S3 and GN2 were lightning-fast compared to this phone. 2,000MB should transfer in about 80 seconds over USB 2.0. That's not even thinking about USB 3.0 at all.

I'm seeing highly variable speeds with my T-mobile variant. I'm on CM10 at the moment. Some times it's OK, some times it's so bad the computer thinks I've disconnected the device. Something is seriously wrong here but I don't know what can be done about it.
I also tried on my linux laptop, same symptoms.
Anyone NOT seeing this issue with an HTC One?

I had to transfer off my pictures/videos because I ran out of room, (32GB, thanks to Sprint...) it took a combined 15-20 hours to transfer about 20GB. Those transfer rates are garbage. I too, only have USB 3.0 ports.
That comes out to 0.38MB/s -- or 388KB/s -- pure crap. I am considering doing over WiFi instead.

No issues with my transfer speeds-- given how many times I've used fastboot to push large image files around lately, I can say it only took me about 10 to 20 minutes on a bad day to move a ~500MB file.

Fear no more. 4.2.2 saves only one picture and one video, but allows you to extract pictures from the video if you feel like it. (As opposed to the 21 files it saves right now)
Also, I use USB 2 (old computer) and I have no complaints.

Hopefully there is no difference in quality by scrubbing the video instead of saving the separate stills...

Some motherboards with usb 3.0 and win 8 do not jive well.

That comes out to 0.57MB/s, or 583KB/s. Also known as complete crap. Real-world USB 2.0 flash drive transfer rates are about 125MB/s, over 219 times faster than what you're getting here.

That would be weird, (but still believable,) since my ultrabook came with Win8 64 and only USB 3.0 ports.

I just built a new PC with an Asus Sabertooth and i7 4770k. Didn't ever get the Intel brand USB 3.0 driver and through USB 3.0 I transferred 20 GB of music in under a half hour.

I'm backing up my phone to wipe everything, and I'm seeing the same sort of 17-hour/6GB transfers. This is ridiculous...

I plugged in my phone to a USB port on my HTPC with USB 2.0 ports and copied the whole thing in 30 minutes. I don't get what's up with this phone and USB 3.0 ports. It was a PITA to root my phone as well...

Does anyone know if the new Mi 8 devices has usb 3.1 support? I cannot seem to find any specs that say anything about this.

I'm searching the net for this info aswell. Nothing found. For me this is the most important question on devices without SD slots...
I'm not willing to work with USB 2.0 on 64 GB or even 128 GB internal storage like on the OP6... ?

that's a bummer! 3.1 and you could hope for future developers coming up with some form of desktop mode for android phones. 2.0 and that hope is gone. And a wireless display technology that allows for a desktop made has yet to see the light of day
