Sorry Im NOOB!!

Hey sorry guys but i just got my att tilt and im reading through all these threads and im just wondering what is the difference between a hard reset and a soft reset??? please let me know!
Maybe if we stop replying to threads like this people will stop making new threads like this.
DO NOT POST THE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!
thats messed up man....sorry we cant all be [email protected]@holes likes you are!!!
I think his point is that you should read through the wiki, sticky posts, and also search some more.
I would use the search feature . even on google. I know the difference between the 2 but i dont know how to do a hard reset on my phone. Guess im a noob too o well. l8r.
Ok surely you must be joking.
soft reset- restart the device
hard reset- restore back to factory
gee that wasnt to hard. I probably saved the guy a few minutes of looking at the cost of 10 seconds of my time.
Its the principle of it. Promotes Laziness. Like saying its better to ask by starting a new thread than search.
i would like to thank you for that....everyone else wasted more time writing crap then just tryin to help!

I think he was faster reading this in the wiki than posting his question here and wait for an awnser. It just that jong people now a days are to lazy to look for the information. Instead they rather wait longer and get the awnser carried to them. Just reading the wiki was all there was to it.

You are just as much part of the problem as the OP who was too lazy to do it for himself.
Sure, it's an easy question ** BRAVO FOR YOU ** but when HE does it, the next guy does it, etc, etc, etc..... Then you have 500,000 stupid new threads that there is a WIKI and 1,000 STICKIES for these babies to read and get ALL the help they need. Nevermind the fact if he opened his owners book the answer is right there, too!
im a part of the problem.
I kindof thought that me helping others will provide a better experience to the OP, than say you telling them to search/read stickies.
didnt know xda-dev had storage/server issues , im sure the weight of this thread will contribute to the 500,000 others.
but if you dont want to see these posts you can always request a mod to add a feature to filter posts by join date or post count in preferences.
Request to Moderator
It would be good if a Moderator could just Delete this thread. He got his answer and now the thread is pointless and of no use. Best place for this one is in the trash.
I believe in searching. But just in fairness to the OP I just tried several searches and I got loads of results on soft and hard resets but not one of them defined the difference between the two. OK, I realise the answer is probably in the wiki but still.
I would say we take a hard line approach with those who should know better. So maybe before being too hard on a guy we should look to see how many posts he has made. If it's a very few then point him in the right direction. If it's more than 20 then be more tough. JJ
You guys are hilarious, the idea that by responding to this thread it'll somehow promote other threads that would've been answered via the wiki or searching is baseless.
1) If he did not search for the answer to his question do you think he would search through "types of threads" and find out that "people answer stupid questions"...In fact if he did search the forum he'd find out that people in fact DON'T answer threads with questions and that in half the threads people tell other people to search the forum or look at the wiki.
So if he wouldnt search for his answer he would never search to find out proper rules on this site and ansewring the question doesnt further his "kind".
Just admit it, people like being assholes on forums, especially ones where people get to know each other its sort of like a clique. You're the people sitting in the school halls when a new kid shows up and doesnt know where room C101 is and instead of saying "go up stairs take a left" you start going off about how people should use the directory and map found downstairs. :: shrug ::
EK...I applaud you for helping that guy out. I have looked at the wiki for multiple phones/ppc and alot of times hitting a link to an answer causes more questions than answers. Again like I said in another post....this is why I try not to participate in the forums except to say thank you to those that do something positive for the COMMUNITY!
http://www.google.com/search?q=soft+hard+reset+windows+mobile&start=0&start=0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
Yes, so hard.
Phase...thanks for proving my point!

JF 1.5 (cupcake ) and MyFavs

Installed JF 1.5 (cupcake) and myfavs are gone. Is this normal as NOT part of the build?
I would like to get back if possible.
Also in the brouser auto-rotate was possible in JF 1.42 r33 and now its not working at all and landscape is not a feature under settings.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!
TIA
Please, please, please read and search the existing threads (in this case the JF 1.5 thread) rather than starting a new thread.
In general I favor creating a new thread when you have a specific question for anything, the exception being about about the custom ROMs. The convention here is to keep the ROM discussion to the ROM thread and it does cut down on the noise in the forums.
In this case both of your questions have been answered on JFs 1.5 thread (multiple times)

Sorry but I do have a life and I don't always the time to read thru 28 pages. If I have the time I do search and read!!! I'm sure you never started a thread with a question that has been already answered!!!
Anyways!!! Thanks for the links!!!
Might I humbly suggest if you do not have time to search and read then wait until you do have time? Everyone here (with the possible exception of myself) has lives as well and would just as soon not have to do others work for them.
It took me longer to type my post than it did to search and provide you the links. In the time it took you to do your posts you could have gotten the answers yourself.
And yes I have asked questions and had it pointed out to me that the question has been asked before and been provided a link to the answer. However I have never posted a question on a forum without first searching as thoroughly as possible. Never. Probably why I have to ask very few questions.
Regardless of how u feel I'm sure this thread will help others.
Again, Thanks for the links!!!

This is a process informally called "lurking", which could be better described as "doing your own goddamn work instead of making other people do it for you." Unfortunately with the widespread attention xda has gotten lately, the ratio of the lazy to the productive has risen significantly.
OP: You don't have a right to run JF software (i.e. it is provided as-is), nor is anyone obligated to provide you troubleshooting. If you don't have the time to read through the sticky threads, then like JP said you should find the time or learn how to better use the search function.
This thread had the opposite effect of helping me... it falsely got up my hopes that the MyFaves app is available, which I previously believed it to not be, having read the rom threads....

I as well thought someone added myfaves.apk to jf1.5 and re-signed it.
The JF cupcake 1.5 is an ADP version, which by default doesnt include myFaves. You can always wait for another update.
Hope that helps
You know what's even more annoying than someone not searching? ...
People who act like forum police/moderators and jump on the posters back with rude comments and a holier than thou attitude.
Instead of writing paragraphs about how YOU would post- maybe you should either not write anything at all, or, gasp, be curteous and friendly- help someone out, then kindly point out the search function if necessary.
What a concept.
Yeah, some of these threads get up to 200+ pages, with thousands of posts along with it, even a search will bring up a lot of posts. Not all of us have the time (as we work, or go to school, or have lives outside of the internet) to sit down and read through all of them. So it would be easier to answer the OP's question, and just end it there, then to tell him to search and complain like your on hormone pills, haha
But back to the OP question, any T-mobile apps will not be present in an ADP build. We just have to wait until someone gets a hold of the T-mobile build. So until then, just flash back to RC33 if you need myfaves.
You can auto rotate the browser (although other apps will use this function as well) by going to:
SETTINGS > SOUND & DISPLAY
then under "Display settings" make sure "Orientation" is checked, then your browser will rotate.

Option A: Everyone who has a problem spends the time to read the entire sticky post, not only solving their problem but also learning in the process.
Option B: Everyone who has a problem posts the same goddamn question over and over again on these forums. The real developers and hackers get sick of it and leave xda-dev.
I choose A.

I just answered the OP's question, so the thread should have no further discussion unless he has more questions. All questions can not be answered with the information found in the sticky threads, so there are people like me, and many other people in these forums who are more than willing to help out another person trying get things running smoothly. If you don't have anything positive to say to the OP and get them going in the right direction, just let other people help.

Silly of me to think that WE ARE ALL HERE to help each other instead of acting like we are the sh!t and know-it-all's!! Ever try to read 5 pages of a thread using your G1 let alone 20+
Remember where you came from and how it felt not to know things and how it felt to be overwhelmed by all this info and how to apply it. Maybe then you will NOT act like a-holes.
I vote we all complain that proprietary, crappy T-Mobile software don't exist on NON T-Mobile builds of Android. You know, the way it's been since ADP phones were released in 2008. Oh yeah, and we all need to keep acting surprised when they continually don't show up in ADP builds. I think that's best for everyone.

Sorry, you're completely right: There's no point to having stickied threads or search buttons. Everyone should just start a new thread whenever they have a question, regardless of how many times that question has already been asked. Catering to the newbies who are too lazy to use forum tools and letting them overrun the forum is the best thing for the forum. I have seen the light!
postscript: sorry for bumping this failure of a thread, but newbie spam like this is choking out the real purpose this forum and I feel like unless someone takes a stand, [email protected] is going to lose relevance (assuming it hasn't already).
I was kind of hoping this thread would just die away once it left the front page but since it is back...

We are here to help each other. The first step in that is following, or at least considering, the rules set forth on the forums. They are here to help make the forum better. The first 2 are:
1) Search first
2) Be polite
Call me a know it all if you like. It does not change the fact that I am gently (and politely) trying to get you to do what is helpful to everyone on the forums. The vast majority of users here can follow these rules, why not you? I have not called you any names nor denigrated you in any fashion. I am simply asking you to be considerate to other forum users and mindful of the rules. By posting threads like this you generate noise in the forums that makes it harder to find new/original content. This is not an end user forum but one dedicated to technical users capable of researching answers.

No need to read 20+ pages, “search this thread” works just fine on the G1. It is easier than posting as a matter of fact since you do not need to login and requires less typing.
Remeber YOU DONT HAVE TO REPLY, period!! No matter how you feel, YOU DONT HAVE TO REPLY.
In case you cant read, YOU DONT HAVE TO REPLY.
Spanish: usted no tiene que responder
German: Sie haben keine Antwort
French: vous n'avez pas de réponse
Italian: Non si hanno per rispondere
You are NOT obligated/required to reply to anyones thread.
If you want to help then do so, if you dont then dont.
Again THANKS for the links!!!
Now please be a grown up and let this die I already got my answer
While it is sometimes said in an off-putting manner, the forum rules clearly state that you are required to search for the answer to your question prior to creating a new thread. If a search does yield the answer(s) you seek, then find an existing thread related to your problem.
For example: There are several active threads related to Cupcake, so you could have posted in one of those, as opposed to creating a new thread.
Thank you for your understanding. Thread closed.

Are you a victim of trying new things?

I have had a htc g1 t mobile in 100% working condition for a long period of time. a month ago i rooted the phone ( and i was successful), downgraded the phone to rc29 and tried to put the hero firm ware into my phone. in the process of trying to put the new firm ware i came across some difficulties and now, as what they say "bricked" my phone. immediately as this happened i was able to reach such screens as holding the end key and the camera key landing upon a white page with some options. not having much knowledge i played around with it and now my phone is completely unresponsive. all it will do is start up and stay on the g1 spalsh home screen and only when i take out the battery will it shut of. holding down any certain keys together does not seem to help. i have also given my phone to such companies as SN traders who were unsuccessful in repairing it as they said " they could not identify the problem". perhaps they never really tried. but the point is, i want my phone to work again. do you have any suggestions as to what i may do to bring my phone back to life or perhaps suggest a place to go to that will repair it for a fee. Please help . thanks in advance

Victim is definitely the wrong term to use in your case. This is exactly why the Devs put a disclaimer up reccomending you don't try this unless you are confident in what you are attempting to do.
At the end of the day, it's your hardware and your choice whether or not you choose to tinker with such things. As a side note, if you were able to get a screen with some options on it, you were probably able to reflash at that point but decided to "mess around" with it instead of coming here for solid info.
Sorry for your loss.

arbab01, perhaps you misunderstood.
this part of the forum is for development. There is a wonderful Q & A section that experienced g1 users such as myself tend to frequent (yes it is nice to help people out every once and a while).
Also, its part of the rules.

You're a moron. If you try to "attract" people to this thread with a misleading title, people will simply use their back button when they realize they've been duped. No one in their right mind is going to help you if you try to trick them into it. How stupid are you?
POST IN THE RIGHT SECTION, SERIOUSLY.
Mods: Ban the Noobs who cant use search or google.
To noob: buy a 20 dollar phone or go back to stock cause you are not tech savy enough to own/mess around with a g1. Also look for local colleges that teach a course on "googling"
now for the advice: you bricked your phone. its useless now. you are screwed. see above message.

if you have try and put the DREAIMG.img file on another sdcard and try again. if not, go for the deductible, it's cheaper than a new phone right now

I actually used to do one or the other -- helping out or pressing back -- but it's getting ridiculous. If some guy is strolling along the grass with a "DO NOT WALK" sign in plain sight, is it really necessary to carry him off or ignore it? No. You yell at him so he gets the hell off himself and doesn't make that mistake again. And hopefully, spectators will see that such behavior will not be tolerated of them, either.
This is supposed to be a development section. Besides, XDA has too many users dragging it down as is. If this guy never posts here again, great, one less problem.
I cant believe this thread is still open..
and i hope he never posts again
If you can't boot in to the bootloader (camera + power) or the recovery menu (home + power) then it's dead. The only way to fix it is to replace the motherboard, but I doubt you'll be able to get a third party to do that for you. If you have a contract with tmo, go in to the store and act dumb, just say that that's what the phone does after you updated it. They should give you a replacement. If not, enjoy your paper weight.
Seriously guys, even if someone posts in the wrong section you might aswell help. But I'm sure it's much more satisfying to throw a hissy-fit >.>

thanks for ur sincere reponse. unfortuantly i got this phone from a local person here in ontario who i suppose brought it down from states. Would u know how to replace a mother board or any one who does and how much would it cost?

FOLLOW FORUM RULES AND YOU WONT GET FLAMED. Its easy. All you do when you press the back button, or "just answer their question" is enable people to not do **** on their own and reinstate the fact they dont have to follow the rules. I'm sure we all haven't spent all of our time following the rules to watch someone else get away with completely disregarding them, right?
Besides, if this guy was REALLY trying to fix his phone it wouldnt have taken him a day to get back to anyone...and now its a "mother board" issue? He's wasting our time...
there's a post for a how-to for replacing a motherboard in this forum already....does this guy know where the search button is? He even includes how much you should expect to pay/best way to find one!

for someone with 150+ post you think they'll have the intelligence to search or refrain from opening new topics unrelated to rom development...

Please keep the topics relevant, keep posts to its appropriate threads, stop opening personal FAQ topics, learn to flash properly and learn to search properly.

If you have a problem, stop panicking right away, stop opening new threads for EVERY SINGLE question that you have, use the existing topics for the relative questions.
Can you imagine if 10-15 people on this board started posted every detail of their lives like you do?
Look, i don't post much, but i come to this forum quite a number of times a day.
But every day, i see a new thread posted by "circleofomega"; And every single time i see it, i'm exactly like "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU"

I am ahead of him by 2 months, only 30++ post, learn to search and report to help, maybe should give him my old Dupod 898 pro.
its not good to mock someone who is in need of help, but alas, ur 30+ posts and more intelligent, then why dont u help me with my problem....shud i debrief u with it jimk68??
PS: i have already apologized for it if u carefully read the above replies....had a word with the mods too..so i think talking to u doesnt matter..if u can lend me a helping hand, i wil be greatful..
obviously the rom you're using doesnt play well with the software/settings you're using...
you only mentioned 2 roms...
try someone elses?
or use official rom...
Circleofmega,
now you've did it again.
I think it is better for you to take an iphone so you can't fool around yourself!

K nobody mock you, after you first post, most member (senior) help you out. As replying to your post at Spike thread you open another 2 thread. (HELP: flash original rom, then choose a rom that you like)
Cheers.

It appears you open a new thread for every little thing instead of try & testing yourself. To gain knowledge and become a proper senior member you need to read, read, read and search, search search. Hopefully you will try this

[Q] How do I install MotoIncred?

I rooted my phone and got some over clocking stuff but i want moto incred, how do i install it and do backups n stuff im confused
Do a rain dance, throw your cell on the toilet, flush it, then pray to Thor for help : right after it you'll be struck by lightning, then you'll wake in the ICU with everything sorted in your head and your phone right by you and with the desired ROM flashed!
Seriously, read the FAQs, the Wiki and use the "Search" (on top of the page) before opening a new thread for asking something that already has more then one tutorial posted, please!
Mods, please close the thread, there's no use for it...
EDIT: OK, I've been kinda too ironic before, I'll play nicer now:
1st. Look at the first post in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734802, there's a topic/paragraph under the title of "Installation".
2nd. If you need info/instructions on installing an backing up the OS, read this other thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698059.
Cheers!
Please keep your inquiries unrelated to development in general section.
Also, please don't insult members. It is better to pass a link to the tutorial that you mentioned. In the worst case, ignore and let the thread bury itself if it contains repetitive questions.
Thanks for keeping xda-developers a peaceful and helpful place for all.
