I see the global version supports wifi calling and VOLTE and has as much band support as my Huawei P30 Pro so the coverage should be fine but will this phone actually work on AT&T after the 3g shutdown? I've read forums where people "call" *#somenumbers*#" and it lets them turn on VOLTE without the carrier checking compatibility. Any advice or input would be great. I really hate iPhones and Samsungs which seems to be all US carriers want to support.

I'm on Tmobile works perfectly on 4G LTE. 3G isn't an issue as that only applies to phones that rely on 3G data and Yes, VoLTE works!
That's good to know because ATT is basically trying to force me to buy one of maybe 3 phones. I wish I could keep my P30 Pro but I cant seem to get the update that enables VOLTE so I need a new phone and this seems much nicer then the new Samsung.

Just have to know the phone dialer codes and your phone will run both VoLTE and VoWiFi. Just do a Google search for them.

I tried that already, I don't see any codes to unlock the options on my phone. I think the APN is part of the problem. I was told to use NXTGENPHONE. Further research shows that ATT doesn't allow any thing they don't approve to use VoLTE or VoWiFi regardless if the phone has the feature. Unless you know a sneaky way around this, I suspect the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra won't work either.

I just want to confirm that you have the global rom version and not the Chinese rom. I'd hate to spend $1,000 on a phone that only works for 6 months
I bought the Chinese version and have tried all roms, but settled on the rom from Xiaomi.eu as there are far more features and less bloat. BTW, the Chinese variant now sells for around $900 from Giztop for the base model. I bought my 12/256 for $1045 when it was first released. I heard the Global variant was selling as high as $1300. Considerable savings going with the China variant, waiting a week, unlocking the bootloader and flashing another rom.

I've been reading that having the Chinese version causes issues with AT&T specifically and no one can seem to confirm that having either rom will work with ATT after the 3g shutdown. My current phone, the Huawei p30 Pro is the global version that had the most ATT frequencies of the p30 series but apparently the only version that doesn't have VOLTE. I just don't want to spend $1,000 on a new phone that has no guarantee of working after the shutdown or even on the 5g network. According to the frequency lists online, the Chinese version doesn't support ATT 5g. The hardware on the Chinese version and the Global are exactly the same. If you wish to spend more money, go right ahead. But I would buy the Chinese variant, wait a week, unlock the bootloader and flash to global rom.

Saving money is what I'm all about. Do you know of a guide to flashing the rom? I've never used twrp or any of that sort of software. Any guides on this phone specifically would be great.
So I found a YouTube video that seems pretty straight forward:
After you flashed the new rom does your phone auto update? Can you go to settings and get updates through the GUI or do you manually have to connect it to the PC and flash it each time ?

The guides are for stock on the Xiaomi site and for the custom rom Xiaomi.eu or on this website. Just got to look.

I decided not to buy the phone after speaking with a few people from AT&T. They informed me that the way AT&T will be deploying the mandatory VOLTE would render the phone useless based on their encryption. Because the phone is not white listed they will not send the required encryption to the phone so VOLTE would not activate after the 3G shutdown and if it somehow was activated before, they would deactivate it on the shutdown date. It is really proving that living here in the US is not a great as it once was. We are now being forced to pick 1 of 3 phone companies. Apple, Samsung or the google Pixel. I assume since they paid the most in back end deals. All of which I hate. Looks like
I'll be hacking/rooting a Samsung. If anyone knows of a theme to make a Samsung look like a Huawei, please post it here. Very disappointed to lose my IR blaster and all the better various hardware that these overseas phones have to offer. Uncle Sam said no.

FIrst of all, I would switch networks. No question on that one, as they are trying to force you to buy the phones that they sell. Also, if you are using a Snapdragon variant of a Samsung used in the United States, you will not be able to unlock the bootloader and/or root it. That is only possible on the exynos variants, which are probably not whitelisted on AT&T.

I've always wanted the Mi Mix and now the prices are dropping I'm seriously considering getting one. One of the main advantages of MIUI is getting constant updates no matter the model so I'm not really concerned if it has Nougat or not. Of course the Mix2 would probably be the preferred improved device, but the price will be ridiculous for the first few months.
Any suggestions would be welcome.
P.S. I'm not a modder and it will remain stock and unrooted.

They're on Ali Express for between $470-490 for the 4gb model but I want to use PayPal. Banggood seem to have the best price at $539 for the 6gb model (with PayPal).
I picked one up on Swappa recently so I wouldn't have to wait for shipping. For $500, I'm very happy. The Mix 2 almost certainly will be China only at launch and will be very expensive and take a long time to import to the US. If you're in a country where the Mix is sold directly, may be worth waiting.
If you want to use your phone completely stock id say this phone is not for you if in the USA. Imo this phone is near unusable in the USA if you intend on staying stock.

I am sorry to say that you won't be getting those updates so often or easily on the Mix, not the official global ones anyway. Global beta for the Mix is still on Marshmallow. If you will be using the China stable or beta then no problem.

Why is that? Everything I've read says it works fine for T-Mobile and AT&T LTE. I can't think of any other requirements that make the US so different. I've also used several phones without T-Mobile lte and 3G has been plenty fast.

The point is that I will be getting some updates for the lifetime of the phone unlike other companies. The Mix is also on the list to be updated to Nougat. Besides that many of the features in new Android versions are already on even the older versions of miui.

Sure. And some features are not there yet even on the MIUI nougat builds. But yeah, the Mix should still be getting updates for sure. Miui 9 should be available for it when it comes out or a bit later too.
And you can always root and go for one (or all) of the great custom roms out there too!!! :victory:
Anyway, only my opinion of course: impossible to know when Mix 2 will come out but as guys already said it will be very expensive for a while. And despite it probably being really awesome, the original Mix will still be a great great value for a long time. I think anyway.

Joking aside - i just bought mine on cect shop for 470€ with a mi band 2 and additional cables and protectors. atm it is in customs (shipped friday, today is sunday) and will get it tomorrow or tuesday..
it misses lte band 20 which is used in rural areas but I don't care. It's beefy enough to swap from my OP1 (since the OP5 is a mess, and you were not able to buy a 3t for ages thanks OP for all the fish...)

Real simple my friend, I activated the Project Fi account using my nexus 6, then moved the sim card to the Mi Mix, made sure all the APN settings matched and are correct and boom....... MAGIC.
I've done this with.....

Huawei Mate 8, Mate 9 Pro
I have not encountered any issues or problems using Fi with a alternative device, beware you can only use T-Mobile which for me isn't a issue because it's the best service in my area, Sprint is terrible and US Cellular is non existent where I live.

I bought mine a few weeks ago and love it. All bar the camera which is distinctly average. I came from the Honor Note 8 and The Mix definitely edges it overall.

This is impossible without Samsung's signatures that's used when creating their proprietary firmware, including bootloaders. And this has NEVER been leaked or otherwise been made available to the public and never will be. Once a locked bootloader is flashed onto the phone at the factory, it is impossible to flash unofficial firmware, recoveries or bootloaders. Only official firmware with correct signatures can be flashed. If this was doable, there's lots of capable people out there who would have already been on top of this. The only thing that might help would be a leaked engineering firmware which is official but not fully functional and most likely wouldn't be unlocked anyway. Going off past experience with the leaked engineering bootloaders and kernels. which where problematic for daily use. I hope this helps you understand a bit more about this topic.

It's not disappointing though. You buy it knowing it's a locked bootloader.
You want to unlock the bootloader? By a N960F or a N9600.
I believe the lte bands are weaker on those models compared to the US version, at least that's what I saw on frequency check website. Correct me if I am wrong

I honestly have no idea. If you do some searching here, there's plenty of discussion of using the N960F and the N9600 on US carriers.
1st phone ive had where im not worried bout it being locked especially since im able to flash the u1 firmware which gets rid of all the carrier bloat..i dont need wifi calling or video calling.

Yup, last phone I unlocked the bootloader on was the S7 Edge Exynos. Well I bought it used and the bootloader was already unlocked. From there I switched back to Nexus 6P, then Pixel XL. Didn't unlock on either of those. Since then I've had an S8+, Note 8, Pixel 2XL, and now the Note 9. Didn't even care about bootloaders on any of them.
And WiFi calling works on T-Mo with the U1 firmware as does VoLTE. I use Google Voice and Hangouts, so video calling from the stock dialer doesn't work for me anyway.

Honestly the only thing I miss now with having a non-rooted phone is the ability to do full app backups. It kills me, in this day and age, that there is no way in Android to backup/restore all app data. Everything else about rooting for me was about fixing issues (battery, interface, tethering etc), which are all kinda non-issues now. Would be nice to completely uninstall apps, but disabling them works too.
I'm also not going to buy the inferior Exynox just so i can root it to make it slightly better, but less great, than the Snapdragon variant. Rooting also kills a lot of features and apps.

It's not available for all carriers in the U1 firmware. As far as I know, only T-Mo supports WiFi calling on the U1.

Yes it uses the stock dialer, but it doesn't support video calling or VoLTE. If you have T-Mo it DOES support WiFi calling and VoLTE, but not video calling.

You're missing that it's for the 9600, which is a Snapdragon, not the 960U. Samsung allows the 9600 to be bootloader unlocked. They don't allow rhr 960U to be bootloader unlocked.

I just got the Note 9, coming from an S7. So far I'm in love with it! Definitely the best phone I've ever had, however, I did notice one issue I'm not particularly comfortable with. If I check my software information I see the security patch level is from July 1st 2018. If I tap on software update it says the latest updates are already installed.
I was quite hyped about the One UI update, but seeing this I started to wonder If I'll ever get it via OTA, and most importantly that I will probably be stuck forever on this July patch and not get any security updates
My question here is: If I download a firmware update fromSamMobile and decide to flash the one from Hong Kong or any other country, will it mess something up due to the fact it's not my country? I just want regular updates and seeing no update has arrived for this specific firmware of mine since July makes me think I will NEVER get anything and that honestly sucks.
Any help would be extremely appreciated!

WOW,that sounds like pre-release firmware..................
A few questions to get the ball rollin':
1) Which market/area are you using the phone?
2) Which carrier are you using/is this phone loaded-up with carrier-specific firmware out-of-the-box?
3) Are you able to use Samsung Pay/Google Pay/banking apps (if desired)?
4) Is the phone bootloader unlocked &/or rooted? If so,this usually kills most mfgs updates from being pushed to the phone & some tap-to-pay apps.
If you could provide a screen shot such as this (or the circled information) it may be of help to determine what's going on:

As for will flashing another areas firmware somehow prevent future updates for being automatically pushed to the phone,I'm not certain.
The screenshot info I requested should give others here a better idea of what's going on w/your update situation.
If everything is 100% as it was shipped by Samsung (no other firmware flashed/no bootloader unlock/root),you're still likely better off by switching to a different areas firmware & updating manually if necessary.

A few questions to get the ball rollin':
1) Which market/area are you using the phone?
2) Which carrier are you using/is this phone loaded-up with carrier-specific firmware out-of-the-box?
3) Are you able to use Samsung Pay/Google Pay/banking apps (if desired)?
4) Is the phone bootloader unlocked &/or rooted? If so,this usually kills most mfgs updates from being pushed to the phone & some tap-to-pay apps.

2. To give you a little bit of information in Costa Rica it's illegal locking a phone to a specific carrier. You can buy it wherever you want and use the sim card of your preference. I just bought it there because it was cheaper. It's a two year plan with the carrier but again, if I want to use any carrier I can, as long as I keep paying them for the plan I'm using. Technically the phone is unlocked. It just has a ****ty preinstalled software on it and I want to get rid of it.
3. We don't have that here so it's not an issue for me, no worries there.
4. I haven't rooted my phone.
I attached the screenshot with the info you requested. Hopefully that can help you have a better understanding and others as well.

Is the pre-installed software carrier-specific garb,such as we get in the US & if so,is it of the same market/SIM Card you're using?
If the firmware/software is carrier specific & you're using another SIM Card/service,that may explain why you're not getting timely updates (that was the case w/me on an AT&T phone on T-Mobile at one time,not sure if such restrictions/stumbling blocks still exist w/AT&T or other carriers).

If the phone is unadulterated (factory firmware,no b/l unlock-root) & you're using the service provider of the installed firmware,it sounds like it's in the carrier's hands & they're in no hurry to push updates.
You could flash a non-carreir firmware,but,that may result in loss of WI-FI Calling/VoLTE/VVM or other carrier-specific items that you want to keep.
I found this one for Costa Rica on SamMobile,not sure if it's carrier specific,or,a SIM-Free firmware:

I'm not 100% sure on this,but,after doing a bit of digging,the firmware I posted appears to be specific to Kolbi

So,that may be an option,but,then you're seemingly stuck w/their bloatware & possibly,lose some functionality of your current firmware.
The upside is a more current version/security update.
However,unless someone chimes in with a similar experience w/Costa Rican carrier firmwares,you're probably going to be the canary in the coal mine & have to flash other firmwares & find out if it's worth it to you to use another firmware.
SUX that you're left having to find out on your own,your situation w/July firmware is criminal & unfortunately,while an extreme example,is not a unique one.

That may be a one specific to a different carrier in Costa Rica. There are three carriers here and Kolbi is one of them, not the one I have though. Do you have any idea what functionality could I lose, apart from WiFi calling and the stuff you mentioned previously?
I want to try a completely different one, maybe not even a one specific to Costa Rica. What I'm not sure is what would happen if I, for example decided to try a Hong Kong one which seemingly has faster updates. I don't know if flashing a completely different region software would mess up my phone.

Wish I could be of help w/info regarding the WI-FI Calling/VoLTE/VVM with your carrier on another firmware,that varies from carrier to carrier as far as carrier-specific firmware & how the carriers handle it.
One way to try to glean some info regarding that would be to contact your carrier & ask if BYOD's have all of the functionality vs carrier-branded phones.
It's definitely a mixed bag here in the USA.
As long as you flash firmware for the SM-N9600 model,regardless of which region/carrier it's linked to,you should be OK with the basics (voice/messaging/data),the most you might have to do is check the APN to make sure you're getting the best service/what's specific to your service provider (should be automatic in SIM Free firmware,YMMV on carrier-specific firmware).
Knox will NOT be tripped w/official Samsung firmware,but,out-of-region firmware may render Samsung Pay/Google Pay useless.

The explanation, why I am asking those specific questions in that order are written below (the message is long, read it if you are interested in my theory...)

About 2 months ago I got my Chinese variant of mi11 ultra 12/256. For the first 7 days of waiting to unlock the bootloader everything was working great. After unlocking it I installed xiaomi.eu and from that moment I experienced all of the problems mentioned in my 3rd question, one after another, without the possibility of fixing them by for example changing to all the firmwares mentioned in the 2nd question, or even by coming back to the Chinese original firmware. I am very experienced modder of android, especially xiaomi devices, so I don't think that there was a lack of my experience in trying to fix this device.
Suddenly, without any reason and without any hardware damage, the rear main camera lens stopped working. I sent my phone for the guarantee repair including the list of all the other issues. The service center informed me that it was not possible to fix this phone and I received all my money back.
I cannot find any other and better phone for this money in the market, so I am trying to figure out if the problems which I experienced was caused by using global firmwares on the Chinese variant of the phone. My theory is, that there has to be a reason (and connection) why my phone stopped working properly after switching the firmwares.
Why there is such a huge price difference between the Chinese and Global version? The Chinese variant you can easily buy now for 780 euros with the shipping to Europe. The global variant costs 1300 euros.
I cannot believe that in Europe it's necessary to pay 520 euros more for the taxes, extra 5g band as well as the official Google play support. That is 40 percent more of the phone's value!
There has to be a hardware difference. Many people are saying that there isn't, but noone never shared any official data comparing two devices and proving that each of the chip on the motherboard is exactly the same between those variants.
In my opinion global firmware on the chinese variant is somehow damaging the hardware of the phone, which cause problems not possible to fix.
I had a chance to speak to a few xiaomi mi11 ultra owners. Until now, my theory was correct, because all the people who bought Chinese variant and switched to the global / eu or whatever different firmware started to experience at least the touch response issue as well as the fingerprint scanner issue. Other people who did not switch to global firmware on the Chinese phones didn't experience any issues mentioned in this post.
I have a global device with global ROM and firmware, I have stuttering when rear screen is active and fingerprint scanner is not always accurate, also during browsing the touch screen response becomes sluggish and I have to screen lock and reunlock to fix it,
I have multiple issues with my 11 Ultra. It's the most stupid flagship phone ever. Chinese crap.
Hardware is great, software is just a total crapshoot.
For instance: the attachment option doesn't even work here in this app.

No that's not the Chinese variant at all.
It's the m2102k1g version.. G as in Global...
Note that this number is on the back of the phone. So in your own theory, yours should have "c" on there for Chinese...

I use the Xiaomi.eu rom, which has the features of the China rom, which aren' t in the Global or EEA roms, but has the Google services not available in the China rom.
There have been some confusing discussions all over the internet from this forum to OnePlus' forum on what ROM and hardware variant is used where. The simple answer is that Oneplus uses different hardware for different regions and the ROM is not necessarily tied to the hardware. OnePlus is using hardware variants that will work best outside of it's designed region and putting a generic ROM over it.
To clear things up I've made a cheat sheet with the main specifications between and across all the variants. I understand that it may not be complete, but it should help a lot of people understand what they are getting with each variant. I've also attached a PDF for easy copying and pasting.

mine is a NE2210 , but it came preloaded with NE2211 , the hardware is same and it has Oxygen OS , which is good .. but so from now onwards i will be following guides meant for NE2211\?

I'd treat it as such, really the biggest difference is the OS. Technically all the phones are the exact same hardware (except for Ram and storage sizes) and you should be able to cross flash if a full factory rom is released.

This is a fascinating and most helpful discussion - but I am CONFUSED. Which statement is correct?
Thanks for clearing up yet another confusion!
Does that mean that NE2210 has different physical hardware than NE2215, or is it just a software limitation? For e.g. if you flash NE2210 with NE2213 OOS rom the missing 4g/5g bands will not magically become enabled?

Can you please enlighten me... Is the OnePlus 10 Pro hardware the same for all versions, i.e. - if we flash an EU ROM onto the NE2210, will the phone have the same bands as an original NE2213 version? Will Android Auto work - even though it hasn't been preinstalled by the phone manufacturer? (This is the error message I get when I try to run Android Auto on the NE2210.)

I think so due to the fact that people have said they have NE2213 ROM on an NE2210 phone. Also when I looked at the SIM slot of my NE2215 it has 2 sets of contacts even though it's sold as a single sim phone. Lastly I rooted my NE2215 phone by booting a rooted NE2213 boot.img.

I have never rooted or used Fastboot on a phone, but feel that I need to in this case. I got my NE2210 while in Europe (I upgraded from an 8T). Used it in various countries without real problems (except for phone and messaging apps - which I could not replace with the Google apps, and some Chinese bloatware, which I uninstalled or at least force-stopped). Next, I traveled to the U.S. That's when the problems began. The NE2210 would not connect to any Mobile Network (I am using Google Fi but also have an Asian SIM card - neither would connect.)
I love the camera and speed of the phone and even the Color O/S is fine.
I then realized that Android Auto does not work - "because it had not been pre-installed by the phone manufacturer."
Please let me ask you one more question: On the Internet, there are numerous instructions on how to flash the NE2113 ROM - have you seen step-by-step instructions that are complete and airtight (for a beginner)? I'll be happy to share my experiences once I have made them!

I have an NE2210 that I bought off Amazon and when it came in, it was flashed with Oxygen OS NE2215 ROM. I'm currently using it with Google Fi and seems to work great in my area so you should be able to get yours to work stateside. The only thing I'm not certain of yet is if 5g band 71 is activated since it's on a NE2215 ROM or if that band will not work at all due to hardware limitations. Earlier posts in this thread seem to allude to that it does work because the hardware is the same, however I've seen other threads that indicate the US version definitely has different hardware. I can tell you that my phone has indicated 5g before but that may only be the 41 band. I'm going to install signal spy to try and confirm if I'm ever on band 71.
Edit: Oh, and my Android auto does work. However, the seller indicated that the ne2215 ROM was flashed by OnePlus themselves. Not sure if that's true or not.

Am actually wondering this myself. I've seen a few posts of NE2215 devices getting better signal when cross flashed with NE2213 because 2213 has a few more 5G Bands enabled.. I would definitely be interested in this if cross flashing could open up more bands... if the hardware truly is the same.

It does, as T-Mobile uses B71 for NR 5G and the NE2215 is sold by them.

But my variant is actually a NE2210 (Chinese) which has NE2215 ROM flashed to it (supposedly from factory). Are you saying that you have proof the hardware is the same between the two and by simply flashing the NE2215 ROM on a NE2210 device will activate the use of 5g band 71?

So update: Over the weekend, I've noticed my phone on 5g three different times. All three times I was on band 41. Still no luck at catching it on 71. The theory of flashing ROMs to activate bands isn't looking good so far but I'm going to keep trying.

I have both VoLTE and VoWiFi working on stock NE2215. I've heard NE2213 works just the same, but sometimes better due to having a couple extra 5G bands. But @RS7JR seems to be seeing something different with actual tests.

I don't think my tests prove that VoLTE and VoWifi don't work. I don't have t-mobile but I do have Google Fi and my WiFi calling does work which I'm pretty sure is the same as t mobile VoWifi. Not sure about VoLTE though. The only thing my tests have proven so far is that flashing ROMs from other variants doesn't unlock the use of more frequency bands in the radio. And in my particular case, specifically 5g band 71. Keep in mind, I've only had 3 opportunities to test it so take my info with a grain of salt. I'll still be doing more testing for the next couple weeks.

From what I can tell, 5G is not working in Canada. I believe that, in order for 5G to work, the device has to be certified for use on Canadian carriers' 5G service, and that doesn't seem to be the case for the OnePlus 10 Pro. Otherwise, everything else seems to work perfectly. However, it's also my understanding that 5G connectivity did work on the OnePlus 9 (also the OnePlus8???), so not having it work on the OnePlus 10 Pro is very confusing. Personally, I don't care if I can't access 5G. It has no "REAL" benefit for me, so I can live with it. I'm just curious as to why the OP10P is blocked from 5G access.
