I've been a user at xda since 2009 (I lost my old account's password). And I was deeply in love with it and all the people.
MY EXCITING XDA EXPERIENCE-
1) Galaxy Y
I got here when I bought my first Android device Samsung Galaxy Y (S3560)*(Totoro) in 2010 when I was 11 and in 8th grade. It has Android 2.3.6 Gingerbread. But I wasn't happy as most games like Temple Run and Subway Surfers didn't run on it due to it being Armv6.
And somehow, I found a youtube video which linked to xda where it explained if I rooted and upgraded my device, it would've got m running all my favorite apps! I was happy and then I learnt upgrading and all. I never knew that there was a fake ICS Update with build.prop modded on it and believed it to be original
It wasn't easy. I ended up bricking my device and crying all night unable to fix it. My dad took it to Samsung and they repaired it and warned me never to do this again or it will get spoiled forever. I got **** scared and never touched it for another 6 months until curiosity struck me when I got a notification of an ICS Mod (I still didn't read the log and thought it to be real). And I ended up bricking it again. I was so scared. Later I found out Odin. Yup. Odin was literally an angel that saved my life and boom! I had my original device back! I tried thrice and then got the ICS mod! It looked so cool that I used to stare at my phone for days without doing anything. Later I installed an unstable CM9 which was original but didn't have Bluetooth, WiFi, Mobile Network, Brightness, Sound, and Playstore working. It was useless. I got to know that Broadcomm didn't release the drivers and needed large donation to do so. I never got to know about it.
I ended up trying hard to install GTA, etc on it but everything failed.
2) Blackberry Playbook
Now this wasn't on xda I believe when I got it. My father bought it as a gift in 8th grade. It had almost nothing except NFS Undercover. I heard that you could install Android on BB Playbook by rooting it and all once it has OS ver. 2.0.4 or 2.0.6. But I already upgraded it to 2.1.x. Now I felt like breaking my head because there was no going back.
3) MOTO G (XT1033) (Falcon)
This was my first google device and I was so happy to get it because it was super mod friendly. I got it after my 10th board exams in 2014 and I loved it through and through. Suddenly upgrading from 2.3.6 (Galaxy Y) to 4.4.4 with a bigger screen and armv7 processor was heaven! I enjoyed it a lot and loved it! It was like a treasure for me. I had to slap myself 4 times when it came to me through Flipkart online shipment. And I installed tons of mods on it. i loved it. Especially the android 5.0 part.
4) MOTO G4 Plus (XT1064) (I dont even know it's developer name)
I got it when I completed my 12th grade
Now comes the boring part. The phone was capable of multitasking, etc but it was still boring. This is the only device that I haven't unlocked the bootloader yet. Why?
NOW COMES MY POINT ABOUT ANDROID BECOMING BORING -
The phone Moto G4 had everything I needed. 32 GB, great camera, great RAM, great processor and only 208.30$. Great deal. It's still with me and I'm in College B. Tech. 1st year doing Electrical Engineering. But I've lost the excitement of modding and rooting. Have I grown up? Newer versions of Android do not interest me. I remember waking up till midnight 3 to watch the unveiling of android 5.0! Loved it but now it's all done. BORED!
Maybe because we have everything that we need in android.
And I do not know what more can be added to android to make it interesting. CyanogenMod used to excite me with its features but I don't feel like I need them now. Everything seems so changed.
Do you guys think it i common to feel like this? Or I'm a special snowflake who is a boring person....
Dude even I have left flashing ROMs. I have HTC Desire. Even I feel that rooting, modding, theming android is waste of time. I am not happy with stock ROM, but now I also dont want to go back and start the flashing game and install CM. Got tired of this. I have also lost interest in Android versions. They nowadays are pretty much same eg: Lolipop=Marshmallow=Nougat (90% are same).

So did ICS = JB = KK.
You cannot expect radical changes in open source software such Android or Linux distros . They need some time to settle in. Although the UI is pretty much the same with different versions of Android, under-the-hood, the features are pretty exciting :laugh: . I used to have a mindset that Lollipop == Marshmallow, but the native Google API support for Fingerprint was darn exciting. before Android M, OEMs used to have their own APIs for fingerprint support, but when Google introduced the FP API, you can now authenticate purchases using your FP rather than entering that darn password. You just need to save your FP once and it used to work everywhere. The Doze feature in Android M was awesome, although it can be achieved in L using apps, it was a big reason for me to uninstall 'Boosting apps' from my friend's phone. Now the doze feature got even better in android N.
The reason why '90% of the code are the same' is because it is an Open source and is an update, not a complete rewrite of the code.
That '90%' is the 'Android part' and the remaining '10%' is the 'update part'.
Fun fact: Human gene is 98% similar to Gorilla gene. That 2% difference makes us humans .

That made a lot of sense though! But I don't give a damn about FP and wallet (I've never done online purchases). I feel my interest towards games going down as I'm growing up as well.( It's so boring to grow up )
Anyways, I hope Google changes the UI in the next update. Never felt so bored. And most of the CM themes are pretty old and not innovative. You'll get bored after 2 days of installing themes and will want to revert back.

I can feel you, the urge, passion or whatever-you-call-it for modding have definitely come down. I don't know if it is because of the age or is modding is becoming easier and easier. Back then was the days of CWM and CM10 while Paranoid Android was for the elite devices. Now you can find modding easier than ever, everything is just a few clicks away. You can find each and every ROMs for each and every device, which made the whole fun of modding only for the end results rather than the sheer fun of the process of modding.
I remember when I got my first Android device, a tablet with Allwinner A13 chipset with a single core processor and 512 MB RAM. Before I got that tablet I was using Nokia N70 and Nokia E71, both based on Symbian S60 OS. I learned a lot about 'hacking the phone' (it's just like rooting but allows you to install apps not signed by Nokia) app signature, app installation and modifying the system partition. So when I got my tablet, modding it came to me naturally. It was a device totally off the RADAR of android devices, but fortunately, it came with a pure AOSP version of Android without any manufacturer modifications in it which made it a tad bit easier for me to mod that tablet. I discovered rooting, apps to bypass in-app purchase called as 'Freedom' (Lucky patcher got this feature long after freedom was released), Xposed modules and Game guardian. All these mods and apps let me enjoy my device without getting bored. But it was not enough for me, then I came to know about custom ROMs, there is no custom ROM available for my device, I did vague searches on Google and got links to some 5 ROMs made specifically for my chipset (not my device). I tried all of 'em but they had a lot of bugs etc. So I went back to the stock firmware by doing a fastboot flash. At the same time I also discovered ADB, I still remember when my little brother entered the wrong pattern more than 40 times, and when there was no other way, I used ADB to disable screen lock and factory reset my device. I did the same for two of my friends.
And that's how I came to learn a lot about Android.
BTW,
Now look at any kind of Android modding, there is some kind of 'one-tap' app available. Take, for example, Enabling Google Assistant on non-pixel devices, you have to edit your build.prop manually but there are 5+ apps available on Play store that does the same thing. There is no hard work involved, and the end result will always be underwhelming unless you yourself mod your system.
One of the best thread I came across recently was enabling Pixel's Round icons on other 7.1 devices. It requires you to decompile and recompile your framework.res file. Now that's what I call as real modding. Although the result is minor and can be easily achieved by installing a third party app and applying a custom icon pack, the sheer feeling of accomplishment you get by modding is just unparallel.
And one last thing,
The best modification you do for your phone is getting back the new features of the new Android version in your current Android version.

Mate, you've got an excellent point. Modding is not modding anymore. It's one touch and boom! You get CyanogenMod. It used to be fun to try and use CWM and get the result but now.... It's too easy. That's what's made it boring. Also, I'll try a few mods later. You actually motivated me! Thanks.

Hi, I'm apoxo, I'm a Note 9 User and have been really happy with my new Note 9, I'm a big fan of the Note series, hence why i'm on a Note 9, Recently, i've encountered alot of bugs with it. Here's the story.
(im gonna try to make it as organized as possible, just an fyi)
THE ENCOUNTER
It began somewhere around when One UI was beginning to be flashable on Note 9's. I have previously attempted flashing, but almost broke my phone due to it getting stuck in the blue screen where its awaiting files to be flashed, but i fixed it by letting it drain. Anyway, I decided to try again, and it actually worked! Despite me getting a bit angry at the bloatware, I was happy with One UI; and frequently switched back and forth between Stock Sprint Android 8.1.0, to T-Mobile Android 9. The first time i switched, It got me confused, All messages that were sent to me had some sort of ID on them, An example message would be:
"You still up for the movie tonight? ~M9xmKAtUm" and "How's the wedding going? ~AxL92mLsTRgZ"
the bug was only really doing stuff before i restarted, Then i figured it was no biggie, So i forgot about it later on. Then once i flashed to 8.1.0, It did the same thing, but just stopped randomly. Which I thought was weird, but come on. Everything is weird.
THE ANNOYANCE
About the 3rd time i flashed to Android 9, it really stuck for a long time. Then i was fed up, I did random settings on and off, those things. Nothing, about 2 weeks later; It stopped. Yay! Its all over now! You can l- Nope, i'm just getting started!
MAJOR DAMAGE ~ PHIL SWIFT
Once One UI i was finally out, I was ecstatic! I immediately went to my computer, and flashed to Stock Sprint Android 8.1.0. Then i did some setting up, and then. I updated to the Unlocked One UI. (I'm on an unlocked phone mind you. Check bottom to see specs and stuff.) and then it stuck. It began to cause MAJOR DAMAGE ~ Phil Swift.
No seriously it did, It would never go away. Turning off Wifi-Calling? Nope, Turning on Wifi-Calling? Nope, Factory Resetting? Nope. Switching Messaging apps? Nope. Everything I tried didn't work, and eventually i gave up. Then today, i decided it was just too annoying, and that i should get rid of it. And so here i am, typing this worded message. MMS Messages aren't affected, which is just a confusion cherry on top of a 5 layered cake, named "Anger", "Sadness", "Inspiration", "Confusion", and "Regret".

Hello everyone it's been awhile. Years have passed since I logged in, and I am delighted to find sections for Android TV, Auto, and Wear on XDA.
My first android device was an HTC HD2, which actually natively ran Windows Phone, so I got into messing around with Kernels, and ROMs from the beginning. It sits in my drawer as a relic of the first, and only device I have ever bricked.
Like a car tuner that's addicting to upgrading cars, for a long time I would say ' I'm just gonna' keep it stock'. It looks like I've cracked.
I have a Razr phone 2, which I still quite enjoy and would like to get a couple more years out of it with Android 10 and so on. Is it possible to take a rom from a phone running a similar android device and install it on the Razr or will I have to develop my own Android 10 Rom? Also, how likely am I to brick this sucker?

I bought used pixel 5 2 weeks ago, I wanted to switch back to Android again.
This is great little phone, and I like it.
But Android 12 is really one freaking ugly OS, so boring, no colors, all and all, I really dont like to look at it.
Was Android 11 worked better on this phone? By means of battery (i get 5-6SOT on 12) , and camera?
Do you recommend to switch back to Android 11?
I don't have comparison answers.
Just can say I prefer A11 over A12.
I'm a lite, minimal user, and usually only run the phone from 30-85% and usually will see an hour SOT/10-15% battery.
Here is my a current SS. I'm running crDroid A11.
As far as I can remember OnePlus has had ROMs / mods / kernels and god knows what very early on.

They became successful and don't need the community anymore. It wouldn't surprise me to find out the 11 series ships with entirely disabled fastboot like Oppo devices apparently have.
Those mods depends on developers... Those guys get old and do not care about development anymore.
We now have only the manufacturers and google mainly.
Including Android 13 beta, it's available for us.

Honestly the holdup is probably on Qualcomm. Sahara is updated v3.x, so all firehose tools we've had stopped working. If MSM was leaked successfully, people would be able to reverse the new protocol, so QCom probably put more restrictions on OEMs to prevent that. Additionally, sources still doesn't seem to be released so nothing really can be built against. Check out any SD8G1 devices and the dev support currently:

If Qualcomm is going to start being anti-developer, I guess it's a good thing that Pixel doesn't use their processors anymore.

Exactly, it got leaked but OnePlus put more protections around it. The thing itself is packed as well, I was able to start reversing it, and the protocol commands are COMPLETELY different. A lot of lower level things are much easier to reverse from dynamic analysis rather than static with vmprotect and other packers on. I don't really have time to do a full deep dive analysis on the protocol while not being able to even see it in action, just complete guesses. See https://github.com/bkerler/edl/issues/274 for a brief description in the 3rd post. Even if the loader is sent, the magic to start communication in firehose is now different as well, so after getting past sahara, now you have to deal with firehose.

Exactly, it got leaked but OnePlus put more protections around it. The thing itself is packed as well, I was able to start reversing it, and the protocol commands are COMPLETELY different. A lot of lower level things are much easier to reverse from dynamic analysis rather than static with vmprotect and other packers on. I don't really have time to do a full deep dive analysis on the protocol while not being able to even see it in action, just complete guesses. Even if the loader is sent, the magic to start communication in firehose is now different as well, so after getting past sahara, now you have to deal with firehose.

Sounds like it is time to move away from Qualcomm then. I guess my next phone is going to be a Pixel after all. At least there I know that I'll get rapid updates that actually fix bugs rather than this nonsense with OnePlus that forces people to go to custom ROMs just to get basic functionality and a stable device in the first place.

Honestly I would just stick with OP9 on a supported stable rom of some kind and use it into the ground. Not sure what's going on but look at the dev section for Pixel 6 Pro, you got kernels, and that's about it, and it's been over 6 months since release already. The few roms that did come out are dying or dead.
If you don't care for custom roms to begin with, then samsung is always an option with an arguably better support promise than google

Oh no, I definitely do care for custom ROMs, I am *never* happy being locked down to what the manufacturer wants me to have which is why my last Samsung was the Note 5. If I got a Pixel, I would probably install ProtonAOSP (which is available on Pixel 6/Pro), use the Pixelify Magisk module to get back anything I lost, and be happy as can be. The only reasons I didn't go with the Pixel 6 originally were the reports of the crappy screen, the crappy Samsung modem (that's still giving people problems), and the crappy battery life. The 6 Pro was out because of the curved screen, the crappy modem, and the crappy battery life. My OP9 has none of those issues, just janky stock software complete with a massive and unacceptable SoC throttle and a buggy boot/fastboot implementation that makes it easy to brick.
I am happy with my OnePlus 9 now that I have StagOS paired with OOS12 C.48 firmware, there are only very minor issues and one major one that I have to remember to work around every time I restart the phone, but I am never happy for long and I get grass is always greener syndrome pretty frequently lol. I have been keeping tabs on the OP10P forum because it was originally going to be my next device (I only just got my 9 in February and I'm already wanting something new) but obviously the situation right now with OOS12 being a dumpster fire and how many people have bricked their OP10P trying to root it or change the firmware between regions... it's not a great sales pitch for sure when there isn't an MSM available and it sounds like there won't be for quite awhile, if ever.
There are so many issues with this phone and I started to hate the OnePlus. I'm definitely going to change my OP10 Pro to Google Pixel 7!
Yeah, I've been a oneplus fan for a long time. AT&T forced me to upgrade from my OP7Pro due to them discontinuing the older bands and I got the 10 pro without much research.
It works great, I've been loving it and it hasn't had nearly as much bugs as others have said with the hangs and what not. Everything feels super crisp, but I definitely agree with the overtuning optimization. Can't even background a game to send a text without it closing. Terrible.
So I'm already thinking I should have gotten the 9 Pro. More 5G bands, why the hell they got RID of a feature is beyond me, and actual custom ROM support, albeit very new. I'm sure given enough time the 10 pro will have custom roms, but the drought sure is making me feel like trading it in for the 9 Pro.
TL;DR Definitely considering trading in my OP10Pro for OP9Pro.

The phone is on point mate, the stamina and performance...even the camera is good (beside the lack of macro) video zooming is amazing and so smooth and stable, battery will last 3 days with little use or 10+ hours SOT otherwise, definitely 8+
Performance as I said is nuts. PS2 games? No problem, full 60 FPS which is a vast improvement over my 8pro, the 8 gen1 is superb, my phone's never got over 32-34c
I've read it's Qualcomm being bumholes, I've heard Devs just won't get it (waiting for the 11)

This would be the first time OnePlus has really dished out a dodo... Honestly the last time I felt like this it was with HTC, only we had ROMs to flash, I know things have changed and Google wants to go the way of Apple, probably to get a nod from corporate tools who couldn't care less and will still buy an iPhone anyway.
I know we only account for a small percentage of people who buy Android devices and mod them I think it was 5-10% maybe less. But it doesn't end with those numbers, every person on XDA (well a large number) are usually the designated IT as nominated by their mum/dad/sisters etc and we fix things for everybody, but we also influence what they buy so no that percentage is a load of old twaddle, if you couple the rooters with the people we influence and the people the talk to, then that number is a much higher percentage.
Just reminds me of the HTC one X when Nvidia got hold of it and locked it down, HTC never recovered from that, Samsung saw an opening and the Galaxy's S took over, I think the pixel or something else will do the same to OnePlus, have been looking at the nothing phone, it looks ridiculous but it there's a custom ROM scene for it then I'm heading that way after one year with this.

This is happening atm, and my last op phone unfortunately. This brand was the pc of the smartphone world, modding and general feel wise but not anymore...

Nah, something else might come along but not Google. You can always leave it up to Google to **** something good up.
Though I wouldn't communicate it in the same way (please keep it civil folks), I do very much agree that OnePlus has become exactly what they were up against back in 2014. They've become massive hypocrites by shutting out the community that made them. There was so much amazing development on the OnePlus One, which I have proudly owned as a daily driver for over 3 years, that a lot of community invented/inspired goodies ended up in all Android iterations by all brands active in the market today. It was truly revolutionary. And this is how OnePlus thanks us today: with a knife in our collective backs. Under the disguise of "improving security" – which is an easy excuse for a lot of things – companies like OnePlus and of course also Google have been striking development communities hard. Why? Not willing to deal with any liability or unpredictable situations (shareholders like keeping things predictable) I guess. The cool thing, though, is that we're still here and we're still developing!
I currently have high hopes for Nothing. If it'll be anything like Bacon, another community revolution is just around the corner...
