green screen flickering problem at low brightness - Sony Xperia XZ3 Questions & Answers

Hey, I purchased a used AU Xperia XZ3 yesterday, I've been only using it for a day when the screen starts to flicker in green bright, but only in low brightness. I noticed it first in the always on display, and also during powering off the phone, which gave me a CRT like effect. I came to a conclusion that the phone is flickering green only in low brightness level. I may not know what it's been through because it is a used phone, but I've read threads about OLED phones, and saying it is a software related problem. I hope it is software related, so I don't have to do a screen replacement or stuff. I've tried resetting it and it didn't work. I haven't tried clearing the cache, because I don't know how to boot it into recovery mode. It happens suddenly when it's charging. I'm wondering does anyone have had the same problem or maybe have found a fix for this? I'd be really thankful.

Try this.

Hi, sorry for the late reply. Your solution helps a lot for a couple of weeks, but then I've decided to claim the device to the seller and he replaced it with another unit, since it was still on store warranty, and is working fine until now. Thank you for helping, hope you have a good day.

This is a major issue. Personally I would've returned it too... better safe than $orry!

X1i. flash always on

Hi!
was working night shift. when I looked on the ground and noticed that the screen on my phone was on. so I graped it to turn it of, when I realiced that it wasn't the screen but the flash on the back next to the camera. its not as bright as when the flash is actually turned on in the camera menu. and the only way I found to turn it of is by pulling the battery out, anyone had/has a similar problem.
Michael
there was someone else who had a post about this before - search "light always on" or something like that but there was a recent post with someone who had the same problem
I did a search. not that i didn't do so before. the only thing that came up was for a different phone (wizard) not for Xperia. been looking around now for the last couple days and haven't been able to find anyone else with a similar problem. well at least on the internet.
any one else

I wonder if he/she did ever fix it. well if I can't fix it soon I will have to take it back to the shop.
Edit: after posting I did another search and wolla. found this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=485701 . this might explain it a liitle bit. after reading does posts I think I better not wast my time. since it really looks like a hardware issue
well. send it off to three on monday. they called me back yesterday.
the LED is allways on due to the wiring on the main board being corroded. we have disconnected the wire. because the damage is from corrosion we can't fix it under warranty. we are sending it back to you today.
were did the corrosion come from. its never been anywere near water.

Sweat (perspiration lol)?
or maybe if you live near the ocean?
When lights are always on like that it does usually mean there was or is some trace of liquid on the circuits or on the led itself.
When you receive the phone, try disassemble it and clean the corroded circuit with alcohol and it should be good, if its only the short causing the led to always receive power.
That sucks though...
I was the first to post about this issue. 4 months on or so and I still have the same problem. The light has remained on all the time since then, although not as high intensity a when the flash is on. It's no big deal, you get used to it, like the led lights on the side of the phone. I'd also like to say this has not impacted on the flash whatsoever. It still works

You mean to say that it has been running non-stop(minus restarts) for 4 entire months???
thats good news for me to know the LED is so durable.
so you haven't tried disassembly and cleaning it yourself, the corrosion that is. I taken my x1 apart already and its not that hard, just have to be gentle.
Yep. Although remember the intensity is not that high as when you switch on the flash to take a pic. And actually even though the phone is off the led remains on. It's the battery you need to take out. So it's been on constantly for the past 4 months.
same problem

[Q] Samsung GNote screen issues

Hi guys,
I'm new to this forum so I'll try to make the issue I am addressing as clear as possible.
I bought this phone for around a month now and I was quite shocked to notice the problem with my screen. Basically, it is functioning perfectly well. However, I noticed an issue while I was using my phone in the dark to check my facebook. While it was loading pictures, the screen black out and I seem to notice " cracks" appearing. I went to the service centre for a check but I was told that my phone is perfectly okay. Still in disbelief, I tried to somehow "test" my phone in the dark again. I noticed that those "cracks" appear only when the phone is booting up i.e unlocking the phone or when the phone is about to light up and they can only be seen in the dark. I'm really not sure whether it is a hardware problem with the LCD or otherwise. I would appreciate if you guys could provide me with advices.
Thank you!

[Q] Capacitive Buttons not lighting up?

Anyone having trouble with the cap buttons not lighting up? I just noticed today that they are never lit up, regardless of what I set them to do in the display settings. Even "Always On" does nothing. I know they work as they very briefly flash during reboot.
This isn't really a big issue for usage but it is weirdly annoying. I don't know that they ever worked really, just never paid attention.
Between this and the Camera taking forever to open I wonder if a return is going to be in my near future; I just hate that they'll probably give me a darn refurbished phone in exchange, although I paid for a new one. I've only had it for a few months
EDIT: Got it! Went through all the settings menus again and somehow power saving was turned on. I rarely use the Quick Toggles so I never noticed.
I'd recommend a factory reset, this is a really odd issue. A factory reset helped my issues, but I ended up exchanging my phone for other issues. I got a brand new S5, but I had only owned mine for a few days at that point.

Thanks for the response... I got them back. See the edit above. Don't know how I missed that Power Saving was on but that was it. I may still return it due to the Camera problems, but that is another thread.
No worries, glad you fixed it.
Delawaredrew is an odd name. You from DE? I recently moved from Dover to Honolulu.

I grew up in lower DE, about an hour south of Dover, but live in WA now...
Bummer about your phone, I don't think I'll test the water resistance, even if I get the official back.

[Q] Phone starts and sounds but screen remains black, with backlight on!!

Hello all,
My Xperia was in a serious bootloop that I couldn't fix, not with pc companion not with flashtool flashing stock roms. So I gave up and sent it to the closest Sony Mobile certified repair store, it took them one month to tell me they couldn't fix it, they said they opened it, changed the battery and it still had the same problem so they also gave up and gave it to me, they did say the problem could be the motherboard. I'm now living in Brazil and getting a motherboard for the c6602 is impossible first of all because the phone was never commercialized here (and importing is impossible, it'd take 2.5 months and they'd charge me 200% of the part price, unfortunately that's how Brazil works ). Something interesting that happened is that when I got my phone back they had solved the bootloop issue but they created another issue, the phone starts makes all the sounds the screen turns on BUT all you can see in the screen is the black color, so the backlight is on but nothing shows up.
Could I be able to fix this via software? or the only option is changing the motherboard (or maybe fixing something on it)?
If any of you knows how to fix this I'd appreciate an answer.

How do you know it isn't a display problem?

Because I sent it to sony and they said the problem was the motherboard and the problems the phone's been giving are pretty random, for example at the beginning the problem was that it had random reboot each one with more frequency, it when from that to just work with the ac adapter connected, it went from that to a bootloop of just showing the sony logo and restarting, after I got it from sony the problem is that it boots app (without needing to be connected) it makes all the sounds like it was working perfectly but the screen is ON but black. So because all this I'm convinced it's the motherboard.
I see changing the battery didn't fix your problem.
I think it's so sad that this phone with just more than a year of life are getting this serious problems and sony isn't doing **** to help us. They keps my phone 1 month just to tell me that it couldn't get fixed, they said they changed the battery and all but still the same problem. I've reached a point when I just don't trust sony anymore, I'm getting a galaxy s4 on monday but still I wanna fix this crappy-phone.
Well, in my case it happened out of nowhere, I wasn't doing anything special with the phone..., I'm thinking maybe restoring the TA partition would fix something? I don't know... I found the motherboard for 80 euros in aliexpress

Note 8 Screen suddendly turn full flicker green !

Hello Guys !
I have a big massive Problem with my Note 8 SM-N950F.
I was watching Youtube and my Phone has worked fine no Problem no Green Screen till suddendly my Screen went full Green Flickering mode and I dont know what the Reason is. I restarted the Phone and it worked again no problem for 30min then it went back to Green flickering screen.
I have try : Restore the Phone as New completly Wipe out / Result = Negative
Installed a Custom Rom / Result = Negative
I did not dropped the Phone nor does it has a Water Damage.
The Green Flickering screen only comes when Im in the System but while I am on TWRP it never shows up so I think it has something to do with the system and not Hardware.
Problem still there still need a Help

A full wipe and flashing the latest official firmware usually solves non-hardware issues. If you tried that and the issue is still there, then it sounds like a hardware issue that would need repair (hopefully within warranty).

Motherboards can be faulty, etc. It doesn't have to be caused by the user. If you flash stock with full wipe and the issue persists then the only remaining variable is hardware. Either that or maybe you didn't do the full wipe when flashing latest firmware. Not sure what else to suggest beyond those two possibilities. Hope you get it working.
I had this also on my N950F. It happened very suddenly while I was using it:-
* Greenish tint
* Reduced brightness capability
* Flickering
* ~half-inch border of more intense tinting on all four sides
Cut a long story short - couldn't fix it with a complete factory reset.
Today, the problem has suddenly disappeared and the screen is perfect after four days with this issue. Just out of the blue - screen back to normal.
I'm guessing it was either a dodgy board connection which righted itself, or a temporary light sensor issue.
it is a hardware fault relating to the lcd. this is usually seen when the phone has been dropped. and is a broken lcd. i know its stated it wasnt dropped but that is the issue

Utter nonsense. It hasn't been dropped and it doesn't have an LCD screen. Know-it-alls spoil it for others by making unfounded comments.

Yes, that's it, if not droped, then a faulty screen, just like that, many people wish that all problems can be fixed by some trick, clever app or hidden setting, but, in true, a very little number of troubles are fixed this way, so my advice would be to take the device to an authorized samsung service center

Be nice to people trying to help you.
There is two causes to this. Software or hardware. Next time it happens try screen capture. If appears on screen shot it's software buggy. Although highly unlikely but if it does usually a reboot or factory reset solves it.
Other more likely scenario is hardware. If you used a crt tv you'll know as its the same symtom of failing picture tube.
And it's definitely not connector issue.
