Couldn't find it anywhere on the specs. Nexus 6 will not do VoLTE? That would be a disappointment

But it's not clear from that whether individual carrier versions will be updated separately -- potentially stranding unlocked phones *not* purchased from a carrier -- or whether there will be a general update of *all* nexus 6s that will support VoLTE on any carrier.
In theory, a handset that supports the standards should work on any VoLTE network -- the channels, codecs, etc. are all negotiated between the handset and the network. But we don't know what proprietary hacks the carriers may be throwing into the mix, or the extent to which they'll enable/disable it for individual accounts based on what they believe the capabilities of your phone are.

I don't care who gets it first, I just want to get it, in some reasonable timeframe relative to the carrier versions, without having to root or run a custom ROM. I buy unlocked phones to avoid carrier bloatware, and so I can use the phone where I want to without having to ask my carrier for permission to unlock. If I can walk into an Apple store and buy an unlocked iPhone 6 that will support VoLTE on AT&T or Verizon or T-Mobile, why can't I buy an unlocked Nexus 6 from Google or Motorola that will do the same thing?

Oh I get what you are saying but I wonder if it will be like T-Mobile Wifi calling where some things may only work with one carrier and not others. We will have to wait and see.

From what I heard from a few inside sources the "OTA" will allow these capabilities across the board for all Nexus devices. That said for specific carrier systems such as "T-Mobile's Wi-Fi Calling" will either be given a choice to download a patch for it from T-Mobile's site to enable it or somehow have the OTA easily identify what network it is on and automatically use it (something in the SIM CARD design).
T-Mobile just has been very vocal on their end about it since they have had the longest partnership with Android and with Nexus especially. They are literally brimming with excitement over getting their specific services to work fluently with the N6 this time around.
As for my sources, I used to work for T-Mobile back in the day. I ended up making a few friends with device suppliers and "Network Enhancement Engineers".
I have seen confirmation that we will get an update to allow wifi calling but i HAVE NOT seen any posts from t-mobile confirming that the nexus 6 will get an OTA to allow VoLTE.... can anyone share a link to tmob confirming VoLTE?

Picked up my Nexus 6 a couple of days ago and it's great but Voice Over LTE does not work on this device. I asked the sales rep at T-Mobile before I bought it about VoLTE and she told me it does have it.
Can anyone verify if this device is even able to use VoLTE?
I'm sure it'll be available in a software update so I wouldn't worry. It's not like the phone isn't capable of it.

She was misinformed, @askdes the Sr. Product guy for T-Mobile confirmed via his Twitter account that while the nexus 6 will not ship/be released with volte or WiFi calling, it will be updated within the next couple of months to support both. In addition it will also support band 12 (700mhz) block a spectrum in the neqr future as well.

I read in several places when the N6 was announced that it does support band 12. What it doesn't have are TMO's libs and kernel modules to make use of this band. The VoLTE and Wifi calling is the issue.
Oh cool, I guess it's just dependent on whether your location has band 12 up and running or not.
Usually I'm not too worried about VoLTE but my area is hurting right now in terms of capacity and backhaul so I cannot even use hangouts to make a stable call while maintaining lte.... Smh.

VOLTE is probably something to look for down the road a bit.
In the UK, Three has just launched the UK's first VoLTE service on their newly launched 800MHz spectrum. Officially, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the only device that will work on it at the moment, they plan to support more devices, but the Nexus 6 isn't in the list so far.
A few people on the Digitalspy forums have been able to access 800MHz on other devices, one person on a stock Nexus 6 with the latest OTA, and another person on a Moto X 2014. I have a Nexus 6 running the M preview 3 and I haven't been able to get any 800MHz even though it's broadcasting in my area.
Does anyone know if there are any methods of accessing the 800MHz coverage, even if VoLTE doesn't work?

Where you at in UK. I have family in Birmingham. Your N6 should have band activated. It going to be up to your carrier. If someone already accessed it on stock 5.1.1 I would flash back to see if it works. I'm not a Guinea Pig. I'm a nurse and need phone to be reliable. Thus I don't run preview builds. Only those that give feedback to Google and can deal with broke **** should even flash M. Cheers Mate.

800Mhz is LTE band 20.
If you have an XT1100 (the international model) then band 20 should work just fine.
The American model XT1103 doesn't have band 20 as far as I know.
I'm running M preview 3 and it runs like a dream, no issues what so ever, and battery standby is excellent, paired up with some kernel tweaks and low brightness I'm getting at least 5hrs screen on time daily, so I'm very happy with that.
I do have the XT1100, and yes it supports Band 20. Band 20 works on the other carriers that are broadcasting it as their main LTE band (O2 UK & Vodafone), but Three UK uses Band 3 as their primary spectrum, they only just launched Band 20+VoLTE but do not support the Nexus 6 officially. The people who have been able to connect to it say that it works but VoLTE does not work, unless you are using an officially support Galaxy S5.
I might try flashing a stock rom on my N6 and see if it makes a difference.
Did this work in the end?

From the looks of it we'll get we'll get data on 800Mhz but not VoLTE oddly, I've asked why Three aren't using Advanced Calling by default.
I too am trying to access the VoLTE on my Nexus 6 using Three in the UK (South London). Does anyone have any updates or can advise how to enable this service?
Many Thanks
Guys just curious to know if anyone able to use Jio without using Jio4GVoice app.
As plenty of ROMS support VoLTE (like PN) but still not able to call directly from dialer..
If anyone having knowledge then pls share it...as our loving Nexus 6 surely support VoLTE.

I'm having MOTO G PLAY 4, and I can make calls even I keep data off with Jio. As if we need to keep data on then it can be used in any 4G phone with Jiocall app..my main concern is to get calls without keeping data on..
I think nexus 6 doesnt support the certain band on which jio volte works i also own jio sim but it doesnt work
I don't know the super technical explanation for this, but it sounds like your carrier actually isn't using VoLTE properly. I have Verizon in the U.S. and on literally every ROM I've ever flashed VoLTE works fine as long as "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode" is enabled under the advanced mobile settings. VoLTE is a standardized thing, and it should be able to be toggled under that option "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode".
If you have to use an app Jio4GVoice it isn't true VoLTE. Right from the description of the app it says "Jio4GVoice enhances your non-VoLTE 4G phone with VoLTE capabilities. You can now use your non-VoLTE smart phone to make HD voice and video calls to any landline or mobile number anywhere in the world. You can also use these VoLTE features on your existing 2G/3G smartphones via JioFi."
Either your carrier needs to support true VoLTE, not some stupid additional app or you need to be able to install that app on third party ROMs. If it isn't eligible to be installed maybe you need to edit your build.prop or something like that.
I'm from Hyderabad,India. I have consulted Customer care for this voLTE issue., They are saying that Nexus 6 doesnt have voLTE by BUILT..So NO voLTE support...But their should be definite way of Flashing any built or editing to get voLTE definitely.. So If anyone has idea share here..Thanks

If you pull the SIM card from either the Redmi Note 3 or iPhone 6 Plus and put it in your Nexus 6 does VoLTE work (you probably have to enabled "Enhanced 4G LTE Mode")? If it works then it means your account or original SIM isn't provisioned correctly. If it doesn't work with the other SIM then it sounds like you're screwed unless you can get that app installed on a custom ROM. If it's available in the Play Store on stock but not on a custom ROM then try manually backing up the app (with something like Titanium Backup) and restore the app on the custom ROM. You also might be able to edit your build.prop to get the app to show up in the Play Store if it's not.
its the same sim i used with both devices ...i think the nexus uses band optimized for US or foreign countries but not for India

And you'd be correct. India uses a LTE band, band 40 I think, that neither Nexus 6 supports. You would have to move to the 6P if you need that band.

It doesn't support Nexus 6P too.. And I contacted Google for support.. They have said that.. After 1st quarter of 2017 they are launching a update for Pixel phone.. Which would give Volte to Pixel.. And they don't have any Interests in bringing Volte to old devices
Then I guess you're buying a Pixel.
Is it turned on in the*#*#4636#*#* menu under phone information? This pic is from my menu on 7.0. it's changed from the last time I looked in there.. however, there may be a great button that says, turn on volte provisioning flag. Or off of it is already on.
Is anyone seeing these settings under mobile network? I'm using the Google edition with T-Mobile, and this setting isn't even present for me.

Maybe it's standard with T-Mobile. I don't have that one either but VoLTE works with Vodafone in Germany.

I think that this is the case. I've been observing, and most certainly have VoLTE enabled and working as it should. Thanks for responding!
Advanced Calling is Verizon's 's version on VOLTE. It will only display Advanced calling only if you are ob Verizon network. In your Tmobile case, you should have a regular Volte toggle to activate.
TMobile does not show that option anymore due to customer turning it off and then complaining that they were dropping and missing calls. I spoke to tech support about this just the other day. VOLTE is always on I was told.
I got my Pixel 4 Xl today unlocked version and use ATT and I had to tell ATT that i was using a note 9 and gave them my old Note 9 Imei and told them to turn on Wifi calling and Volte and everything activated perfectly fine, it shows HD in the dialer during a call, and I can turn on airplane mode and just turn wifi back only, and calls worked perfectly fine with wifi only, wish I had gotten the 128gb version instead of the 64gb one

Ask your Carrier, most of them don't want the users to play with that switch and usually it's activated right from the start.
