SIM slot stopped working on my RMA'd refurb P4XL from Google after 3 months and it's now out of warranty (by 14 days). Yes, it is confirmed by testing. Now I need to either have it repaired or I think I can swap over to eSIM through my carrier. The part is cheap but requires professional in$tallation due to the disassembly and soldering required. Has anyone had this repair done successfully? Any UBIF techs in here? The other option is to have my carrier swap my physical SIM to eSIM. I'm assuming the card reader has nothing to do with the eSIM so they should work independently. In other words, just because my SIM slot is bad, the eSIM should work no problem. One concern though is does the physical SIM slot need to be working while the swap to eSIM is made? I don't know but will find out Friday when I have a service appointment with AT&T.

No, the physical SIM slot does not have to working for an eSIM-installation to succeed.
@TrulyPain
You were correct. With my P4XL onboard SIM slot dead, I had AT&T migrate my physical SIM to eSIM. I was using my SIM in a spare phone at the store so there was no SIM even in the P4XL. When the eSIM registration went though the P4XL immediately got a cell signal and I made a test phone call. When I checked my spare phone with the physical SIM, it had been deactivated.
I'm not normally this pedantic, but for the sake of someone else in my position, you can ditch the physical SIM slot if it is defective and use the eSIM. I only wish I had done this earlier now. Next phone this will probably be one of the first things I do, leaving the physical SIM slot for travelling. Cheers.

i like to know if there is room enough above the sim to use a duosim from duosim.xcom ?
Anyone an idea?
come on , is there any room to place a dual sim ?
Oh, wow. That stuff looks cool. Now I'm curious too.
Yes, there should be room enough.
So, I've tried it and yes it fits but it doesn't work.
The TD has 8 connections to the SIM card and the Magic Sim (www.dual-sim.nl, 16th cut version) has 6 connections. It is 16th gen card which they propose to use for smartphones....
It works on my old Nokia 6021. This phone has 6 connections to the SIM Card.
The cutted SIM Card doesn't work anymore on the TD so I have to purchase a new one. I have sent a mail to dual-sim.nl. I will post the outcome.
number of contacts is irrelevant. Only 6 contacts are used for sim cards, the last 2 are RFU (reserved for future use).
If i read you right, after you cut up your sim card it doesnt work anymore? even directly in the phone without the dual sim? If thats the case your broke your sim while cutting it. The dual sim may or may not work still.
The cutted SIM doesn't work in the TD but does work in the Nokia 6021.
The Magic Sim doesn't work in the TD but does work in the Nokia 6021.
So, my assumption was that the cut is the reason that the SIM card doesn't work anymore on the TD. Strange that it still works in the 6021??
No, there is an incompatability between the magic sim and the touch diamond it sounds like. Only 6 contacts on the sim are used, the last two do nothing.
So if it works fine in your 6021 and not the TD, then its the magic sim that has the problem.
What error do you receive? no sim/insert sim?
SIM card is seen, Magic Sim program is available in teh TD but it doesn't register to the network.

Hmm thats really strange. What happens when you manually register?
It lists the available networks. KPN (my provider) in one of the them. If I try to connect to this netwerk the same thing occurs: can't register... I can try another network (roaming)?
Hmm that means the IMSI is not being passed corectly.
Sounds like a bug with the multisim itself. Another brand might work.
Not all new USIM cards works fine.
Put your phone on GSM mode instead of WCDMA or Auto.
Then the Dualsim works fine.

Due to your questions I tried it again and came to the conclusion that the cutted SIM card didn't work in the TD because it didn't contacted completely. I also saw a different kind of slide for the Magic Sim which leads to a better contact of the Magic Sim to the TD and now everythong works!!
Thanks someone1234 for taking the effort ask further

Thats great! no problem.
Does the Dual-sim 16th gen. non-cut version also fit into the TD?
I don't think my employer will appreciate it if I would cut my KPN sim-card of my company phone...
anyone tried the 20th gen dual sim adapters yet?
Tilt was previously working. Now shows "No SIM" on screen when any SIM is inserted.
Any idea what the issue might be?
I am not the current owner of the tilt, nor do I have access to it to test anything, so that is basically everything I know about it.
What is your best guess?
Thanks
is it your phone or is it a phone you got of e-bay.
If of e-bay it may be that yur IMEI is barred.

Ebay.
Well if that is that case great, because my carrier does not ban IMEIs, so it will work perfectly for me.
Is that really the message you would get if your IMEI was dissabled though? That doesn't really make sense, as it would see the SIM and you would see it say: Searching for network... Registering... and then it might say no SIM, but it says no SIM right away, so that can't really be it.
Any other ideas?
this is usualy a bad sim card..
usualy either a worn card.. or possibly an issue on the att side with your sim number
if you frequent any core att stores you might could get a free one..
I stopped bidding for it on eBay, cuz I don't feel like taking the risk.
It sold for $127.50
Sounds silly, i know, but i had the same a while ago, found the sim goes in and locks shut back to front the contact part going in last, just maybe this simple
I had a similar problem with my new Tytn II. Only 3 days old and after I took out and reinserted SIM, I got the "No SIM" message, same problem with another SIM card as well.
Just as I was ready to return the device, after a final test with my SIM card, it decided to work. I have not taken out the SIM since and this problem hasn't shown up.
There have been a couple of threads on this problem.
It would seem that the design of the SIM connector is not all that it should be.
My main SIM sometimes wouldn't connect and another couple of SIMs would not connect at all.
A piece of paper, folded if necessary, inserted between the SIM card and the metal clip to increase the contact pressure has completely fixed the problem on mine, but apparently it has not worked for everyone.
I have just bought an LG P880 and to my horror found that it does not work with my sim card.
Here are the details:
Three Sim card (GA6047) monthly contract
LG P880 unlocked
I have tried the following sim cards and they do work
O2
Orange
I have tried a factory reset and a hard reset with the Three sim card in and out, each time it fails to detect it.
I have tried the Three sim card in the following phones and it does work
HTC 7Pro
Nokia N900
Samsung Galaxy Europa (The phone it came with)
While waiting for Three customer services I tried the Three sim card out of my mobile broadband GA6029 and was shocked to find that it did work.
So here i am with two three sims, one works with the phone, the other doesnt not.
All three said was to go to a shop so they can see it for themselves.
Do any of you have any ideas?
3G is activated? :silly:
Get a new SIM-card ... But it's best if you go to a three store and try one of their sim cards first. Pretty sure it will work. Maybe the sim card batch you got is faulty somehow and just not recognized by the phone. Exchanging the simcard shouldn't cost you anything if there's a technical problem.
Strange. My three sim works. It's a micro sim in an adapter. Maybe there is an alignment problem?

With android I don't know...
With the old K990 I just had to flash with an open firmware.
I have full size three sim works fine, but make sure data is enabled or you won't get a signal...

Ok, so an update.
I went to the three store yesterday. They let me try one of their demo sims and that worked. So they gave me a new sim. But once the sim activated, it yet again didnt work. Same as before though. The sim works in several other phones.
Does anyone know about different sim types?
The sim is a normal mini sim. But i am guessing that their are diferent sims for different phones?
Try microSIM from three. Maybe it helps.

I had the same problem with italian sim. I discovered that pulling the sim 1mm over the battery solve the problem. Maybe the contacts of the reader and the ones of the sim are not at the same distance when the sim is full inside the reader.
Hope will help

i am not sure its FULL size, since that includes the sim tray which in early 90s and forward was a complete card with simchip you could push out
the regulars or todays sim are mini-sim cards.see more here
Have a XT-1053 on Net10. Every once in a while I'll turn on my phone (from screen off, not powered down) and it displays the notification that I don't have a SIM card installed and can only use the phone for emergency use. Rebooting doesn't seem to help, I have to remove and reinsert the SIM card and reboot. Running 4.2.2.
Anyone else running into this issue? Is it likely a marginal SIM card, an Android issue (similar to what is reported regarding AIO on 4.4), the APN settings or possibly a problem with the phone hardware? The problem re-occurrence is anywhere from minutes to weeks.
If rebooting doesn't fix the problem then it's not firmware related, instead it sounds like a physical contact issue. Is the sim card a proper nano sim or something that has been cut down to fit? I'd get a replacement nano sim, if the problem still occurs have the phone replaced.
I have had the same issue, the sim card was replaced never had the issue again.

Unfortunately, it was cut down by the selling vendor (a Net10 reseller). Although they sell iphone's which must come installed with nano SIMs, they do not sell nano SIMs by themselves. You have no choice but to cut down a full/micro SIM. For all I know, they are doing the same for the iphone sales as well. Seems like many of the MVNOs are similar in not selling nano SIMs right now (Red Pocket is the one exception I've seen offer them).
It does make sense that a reboot not fixing the problem points to a problem with the SIM or phone.
Cut down sim is a massive red flag - 99.99% that is the issue. They also really shouldn't be doing that, are they also thinning the sim by sanding it? The nano sim is thinner, it is very hard on the sim socket to use a regular sim cut down to nano size as it's technically too thick for the socket.

The Net10 SIM I received didn't look like the vendor thinned it at all. I used a bit of sandpaper on the backside and cleaned up the edges a touch before installing it. Maybe it needs a bit more sanding. The Moto X must be one of the few Android phones to use a nano SIM. If an MVNO has a SIM for an iPhone 5/s/c, that should work in a Moto X, right? Never know if Apple's done something funky which would create an incompatibility with other phones using the same SIM.
A nano sim is a nano sim, so if they happen to have a proper sim for an iphone 5/c/s then it's the exact one that should be in your Moto X.
Just happened again, and this time a reboot was all it took. This is looking a bit more complex. Measured the original T-Mobile nano SIM at a thickness of .68mm so sanded the Net10 cut down nano SIM to close to the same thickness. At these tolerances it difficult to get a consistent thickness across the entire card, but got as close as possible.

This!
I've not had an issue with my moto X, but my old samsung infuse would often give 'no sim' and 'no service' messages for a while.
A restart would usually solve the issue, but not always. Eventually i took the sim card out and cleaned the contacts a bit. Never had an issue again.
Happened again last night. Reboot didn't work, but popping the SIM in/out did work without even rebooting. Think it time to switch out the SIM card itself and see if the problem continues.
I've experienced the same issue with my cut Straight talk SIM card...Usually, it takes about 2 mins and it comes back and works fine.

I let it sit overnight hoping it would come back, but no luck. Even sanded down the thickness to = nano SIMs, but it's still problematic. Until I have some experience with a real nano SIM, I'm not calling it a phone hardware problem.
I have a real Nano-Sim and it does this sometimes.... Usually decides to work again in around 30 seconds

Had this issue using AIO with an Official micro SIM, whichever sim is the smallest, had the issue with tmobile as well. Have an XT 1053
Hello All,
I've been looking to add a 2nd SIM to my wife's phone as she'd like to have separate numbers for work/life.
When I opened up the SIM tray I saw that the tray has an empty slot for 1 SIM card and another for SD card. there is a shape of the 2nd SIM slot on the tray, but it isn't fully cut out.
So I went to a few mobile repair shops around my area and was told they can order a tray for us, but it probably won't work as the phone is probably locked in software.
I know the phone isn't carrier locked, since I can switch carriers freely, so what can be the reason some unknown entity went out of their way to lock this phone to a single-SIM only?
And is there a way to unlock the 2nd slot?
Thanks!

Hi
I would take A gable and get a cheap sim tray of the bay and see if it works.
I have 2 sim and Micro SD in mine. If it is software lock i think you could flash A different region software to unlock it. Or It could be blocked as the sim reader only has the pins to read 1 sim card witch could be need hole new sim reader slot.
You could try cut out the plastic blocking the second slot
