Sony Contacts apk - any chance to have it back? - Sony Xperia 1 II Questions & Answers

I just changed from Xperia 1 to Xperia 1 II, and I had yet another surprise from Sony: the contacts app is missing, and the Google Contacts app replacing it, is, well, crap. I tried installing the Sony Contacts apk both from apkmirror and also an extracted version from my old Xperia 1 (v. 1.7.31), but when trying to call a number, I get a message saying there is no app to make the call. The Sony Caller app works great, the Google Contacts app uses it as default, but I can't get the Sony Contacts app to work with it. What am I doing wrong? Is there any fix for that?
I would not like to use other Contacts apps, if possible.
Please help!
Thanks in advance!

Hello -
Same issue on Xperia 5 IV. I installed Sony contacts apk, so much better than Google Contacts. The app works well, emails, sms, WhatsApp all work well but when trying to place a call I get the message: "No app found to handle this action". I also installed Sony Phone 23.0 apk (which works on its own) but I still get the same message from Sony Contacts.
Any solution?
Thank you

[Q] Missing Phone app on my AT&T GS3....need help

I installed the Rocketdial app on my phone because I can't stand the dialer on the SG3. After installing it I found that the native dialer was conflicting with Rocketdial. I looked all over my phone for ways to disable the dialer and lucky me, I completely disabled it....now I don't have the native dialer app at all! I can see it in "Application Manager" under the "All" tab but it isn't in my app drawer any more. I uninstalled Rocketdial but reinstalled it because that's the only way I can make calls but I can no longer find the native contacts app either. Because I can't access the native contacts app...I cannot edit contacts through the reinstalled Rocketdial. Please help! I really don't want to restore many phone because it took days to get it the way I like it. Thanks
RocketDial is not conflicting with stock dialer, it uses some features of stock dialer ... I guess you need the phone application back to your phone .

Display stays off after call and contact images are missing since 10.3.a.0.423 update

Hi, since I updated my Xperia Z (C6603) to 10.3.a.0.423 I experienced 2 problems.
First one is:
The display stays off after a call, also when you remove the phone from your ear during the call.
(It usualy should turn back on)
Second one is:
All my contact images are gone and it won't even show me the whatsapp, skype or facebook images in contacts anymore (in whatsapp, skype, aso. it's working ofc.). If I add a picture manually it's working but I don't like to add a picture to every single contact manually.
Have someone experienced the same issues and found a solution for them?
Thanks in advance.

Might be a little bit late, but maybe for others
worked pretty well on my Samsung S4.
download the app "proximity fix" from the playstore and run it.
Job done.
Hope that helps you or anyone who stumbles upon this!

Google "Voice search" function with contacts

Hi,
I have Google Voice search installed at my Gear - and it works great!
But I have on problem:
When I say " Call John Smith" - then the message occurs : "contact not found" (with the symbol "contact" - when I press this, i can navigate to my contact list.
I synchronize the gear with my gmail account and there are all my contacts.
I will see my contacts on the gear also.
Anyone an idea ?
thx

I'm having exactly the same problem. But only with voice search. If I go through S-Voice it's ok.
I've stuck auto voice on the gear, so I'm about to ask a lot of questions about that - maybe that might work better?
I think it has to do with the gear not actually being a phone. Well that and the Google services not being optimized for the gear. I know as of now on null rom in the play store it says there is an update to play service aka Google now but it's not compatible.
It's still pretty early so I say give it a little time and let the awesome devs work their magic.

Replace standard contacts / dialer?

Does anyone know if it's possible to replace the built in dialer and contact app with the standard Google app?
Also, does anyone know if it's possible to configure Gmail so that when you press a phone number it automatically opens it in the dialer?
Amongst other things these are two features I miss from my recently departed Nexus 5.
Thanks all.

Android Messages RCS not working

Hello,
Has anyone swapped to the Google Messages/Android Messages app over the stock Samsung messages app on the S10/S10+ and been able to get RCS working?
I came from a Pixel 3 XL and enjoy the Android Messages app over the Samsung app even with the OneUI overhaul, but I cannot get RCS/Chat working - it is not even visible in advanced settings. If I swap to the Samsung app it sends RCS messages no problem, swap back to Android messages it goes back to SMS/MMS only. I also installed Google Carrier services thinking maybe it needed that to trigger it but nothing, looks like the Carrier services app also does not get triggered to actually provision anything even with it installed.
Would love to hear if anyone has this working
Same issue here. I prefer Android messages since I get a lot of verification codes texted to me and Android messages has a quick copy code option. On TMobile. Rcs works fine on Samsung message app.

I am using T-Mobile and I have not yet had RCS support(waiting for it), but I want to ask, how did you install Google Messages app on your new Samsung phone? Did you transfer your info including apps using Samsung Switch app? If yes, some apps may not have transferred correctly, so I would uninstall them, then reinstall or just try clearing data of that app.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled Google Messages a few times, still does not resolve, even installed Google Carrier Services to attempt to fix. Really odd if you cant use a different message client with the same tech.
beep boop
Right now its only supported on the stock Samsung messaging app.

"Messages" is a public app that Google has on the Play Store (just search for 'Messages' and make sure you get the one from Google LLC), and anyone with an Android phone can download it. It's a drop-in SMS/MMS replacement for OEM (or carrier) apps for SMS/MMS.... it also supports RCS, but not on every phone.

And it looks like it may stay that way for a while: For RCS to be shared between apps, the way SMS/MMS are, Google needs to build an API so that different apps could access the same data. It LOOKED like htye were going to do that, but then 9to5Google and others reported that the code was hidden and commented out in the Android Q preview, with comments suggesting that it wouldn't be available till Android R. Lord knows why it's taking Google this many hears to get down basic functionality on something as important as messaging... they've been pushing their RCS Universal Profile since 2016, so it seems ridiculous that it'll be 2020 (for Android R) before they release an API baked into Android for it.
Textra is still my favorite SMS app. I wish Messages and Samsung Messages would implement their quick reply features
It works for me sending messages to my parents who are on Sprint with me using the Google Messages app. I'm pretty sure they are using the default Samsung messages app but I'm not sure if that makes a difference.
Not exactly the same but worth a mention...Verzion S10- has Real Time Text (RTT) working..you enable this from the stock phone dialer screen, three dots at the top right for Settings > Real Time Text. You can set it to always on and you'll get the additional option to send an RTT type message call whenever you click a contact.
