Found A Bug With YouTube HDR w/ Autobrightness? (Oreo April Patch)

So I was appreciating the beautiful display on the Note 8 and it's abilities again today by watching a HDR video from YouTube on it, but I noticed something weird. Whenever I went from a bright to a dark environment, (lit bedroom to dark living room) the screen would drop to a lower brightness, then realize it's in HDR mode and go all the way back up, and it would alternate multiple times as I moved around in the dark environment. It would drop to a low brightness, pick back up to full, drop, repeat. Can anyone else test to see if this is happening with theirs too?
Settings: WQHD+ resolution, Auto Brightness enabled, Video Enhancer enabled

This will help me confirm whether it is indeed a software bug introduced in Oreo/April Patch or if it's my own hardware that's having issues. Thanks for the help!
I would say it is a software bug.
This was happening to me after the Oreo update, unsure what I done that resolved it though but, after flashing a custom rom and going back to stock it has worked fine for me. Using the same Oreo package that I used to update to Oreo the first time also.
I am really sad to hear about all these bugs due to OREO updating, they make me think that it has far more cons than pros over nougat, in my country no Oreo ota yet, I will stay this way until a really good oreo comes out...

Weird Dark Blotches on screen?

Hello! For some reason my phone has these weird dark spots that jump around whenever there's something dark on my phone (Reddit dark mode, twitter, discord, dark spots on youtube/netflix) and I tried to use a screen recorder to capture it but it doesn't show up on the video, so I assume I just have a faulty screen? Or is this a bug with Android Pie? I only got the phone a few days ago, no drops or thuds on it.
It's a known issue that was introduced in the February security update.

Well, I guess I'm happy my screen isn't broken but this also means I don't know how to fix it.. Have they announced that they know this? Once I update my phone to pie (The day I got it sadly) I've noticed so many issues with it, and I can't go back to Oreo :/
People have reported it but no official response from Xiaomi yet. We'll have to wait and see if the March security update fixes it.

Thanks for these details. I almost accepted the update but declined.
It's going to take a lot for me to purchase a Mi A3. Quality control on this device is horrid.

Black crush / gradient banding issue in samsung note 9

Hello community!
I recently bought a samsung note 9 out of the love towards the note series. But, after 2-3 weeks of usage I started noticing that there are some issues in displaying darker shades of black. The gradients of blacks are not shown properly. Instead, bands are formed in different shades of black. I searched internet and found that it is called black crush. My display is perfectly fine and it is appears like some firmware/software problem rather than a hardware issue. I also saw many people complaining about the same issue with samsung premium phones like S9+, Note 8/9 etc. But it is very surprising that there is no result for black crush or gradient banding in xda forum for note 9.
Please help me here. I wanna know if this is an issue of my piece only or is there anyone with the same issue. (Do check your phone twice before saying no. You might miss to notice it). It is so sad that a premium phone like note 9 is having an issue like this. I also read that even the advanced note 10 also face this problem. So even an update sounds foolish. The black crush isssue is really annoying. Once we notice it, we'll see it everywhere and we cant unsee.
I can't put screenshot to explain as it is a processing problem. You can search google to understand black crush or I can take a picture, if needed, of my display showing it.
If the problem really exists, I think it is high time for Samsung to have a look at it.
Is it on Mar security patch or newer?

Im in the latest security patch (1st September 2020). Is there anyway to get rid of the black crush problem? Would it help if I try installing a custom rom?
I can't tell if custom rom could fix your problem or not but those with display discoloration issue mentioned that their problem haven't go away with newer security patch(Aug/Sep).
If you've no plan in using samsung pay, you could try custom rom but rooting will break this function forever. There are workaround for other functions(at least in rooted mode), but not for samsung pay.

I was thinking about installing another OS. But, I'm not feeling to do it, as rooting permanently trip Knox. Do you know if the black crush issue is a h/w or s/w problem? Is there any fix for this? Will rolling back the OS to any previous version can help removing it?
I don't know if it's s/w or h/w but most people with display discoloration issue(not sure if similar as yours?) said s/w. Better just wait for newer firmware base. Those security patches probably with old bootloader/base that's why the screen issue persists.

It appears to be a software issue for me too, rather than a hardware one. Thanks for your advice. I'm gonna take it and wait for some time for an update from samsung, without unlocking the bootloader.

Question Help diagnosing a issue

My S21 Ultra has been suffering a minor screen glitch mainly on the lockscreen but sometimes appearing in applications.
I thought it was a hardware issue but after a screen replacement it is still happening.
Hopefully some S21 Ultra owners can help me diagnose the issue.
How to reproduce the issue:-
Make sure dark mode is enabled
Make sure color pallet is enabled
Make sure QHD resolution is enabled
Make sure lock screen is stock live wallpaper
Now when phone is locked, press lock button on & off 10 times one after the other.
Do you see glitch lines across the time on lock screen?
Thanks in advance guys!
not sure what you mean, I don't see anything.
share the device model number and the software version it's on please.
also, i suggest you submit error report to samsung members app > get help > error report after reproducing the issue (would be best if you take video recording or a screenshot of the issue when submitting ticket).
Attached a video for better understanding of the issue.

Just my guess, so don't take my word for it since I might be wrong... but I'm guessing it's due to how the display powering on is programmed, which area is supposed to light up first and the animation of how the screen powers on is causing that 'glitch'.
I also don't think it's a hardware issue but rather something more software related that needs to be modified.
One other possibility is the charge buildup/flow within the hardware wirings that end-up resulting temporary spiking in LED lighting up to the area that lights up first. (again, I am very much speaking hypothetically. By no means am I an expert in this area)

Had Samsung take a look at it, phone passed software diagnostic after a reflash from themselves, then they done a full hardware replacement, motherboard, screen, battery, the whole phone basically, issue still persisted, they deemed it a OneUi 4 issue as the display phones on OneUi 3 didn't have the same issue, guess I'll just wait for a OTA.

Question Refresh rate drops when edge lighting comes on

Hello since first build on one UI 4.0 im facing refresh rate / screen strutter when edge lighting comes on.
Have done factory reset when receiving the first build of one UI 4.0
Anyone can confirm if another factory reset is needed? As restoring my games and apps take quite alot of time and data.
Current build is the latest BULC
Exynos dual sim model
Hi, I've sometimes noticed that too, although not 100% sure if it's simply related to this:
Picture in Picture, Split Screen etc - Refresh Rate drops to 60Hz (EXYNOS)
Hi there, I'd not noticed this before the Android 12 update, but refresh rate appears to drop from 120Hz to 60Hz when using Picture in Picture or Split Screen views. Can anyone else reproduce this please? You can confirm this by going into...
forum.xda-developers.com
Can you please test that scenario too? Thanks.
There are a lot of moments throughout a lot of applications when adaptive refresh rate just decides that it's the moment to use 60hz. The one that annoys me the most is the unlock animation.
