Hi there,
Well I have had my wizard for a while now and the screen has managed to aqiure some scratches over the years and I found out that on ebay you can get a new screen for like £8 with tools and instructions, so this got me thinking, as I really like this phone even though it is old and outdated it still manages to keep up in some areas and thanks to you guys it keeps getting new software and os's so I thought well instead of spending £400 on a new phone why not spend like £50 on a new screen and then possibly fix the biggest problem i have with this phone, the RAM.... its really not enough and i was wondering if it was possible to get a new upgraded RAM chip and just get someone experienced in soldering and stuff to take out the old one and put in a new one. Now I know this really sounds far fetched and even if it is possible it may end up way to expensive, and alot easier to get a new phone but if anyone has any ideas if it is possible id love to know.
PS sorry if this is a seriously dumb question but I like my massive outdated smart phone I just wish it had more ram.
Thanks
Well to all those interested, i have found out that it is possible to get it to 128 MB but it will cost around £70 and i can get a secondhand HTC TYTN II for £100 so I think ill go for that instead.
That's cool
Is it available freely or did you have to do a lot of digging?
And any ideas how to install the new memory?
Well from what i found out in another thread on this site is that a company called retronix will take your phone in and change the ram chips for you. Here is the thread :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=359590
I have sent them an email asking about it but have not recieved a reply.
I hope this will be helpfull for you, I have decided against it as you can buy a second hand tytn II for almost the same price and also as I will start uni in september I will be getting a contract that comes with the Touch Pro 2 cant wait it looks like an awsome phone.

You can check if your sim door is making full contact with your sim card(sometimes sim cards don't make full contact with phone and you loose signal). You can put a small piece of paper to generate some pressure. If that doesn't work probably it's hardware.

Hi!
I just went through the same problem today.
My Kaiser is 3 year old now but works perfectly... except it does not find the sim now...!
If you find a solution, possibly avoiding hardware substitution, pls just let me know!
Ciao,

Hi all
quite some time ago I killed a good 20% of my digitizer - bottom right corner where on screen keyboard is grrr.
Being in NZ I had a hard time finding anyone that would repair it for a reasonable cost etc. This phone is not native to NZ - parallel import.
Fired an e-mail back to a local supplier to touch base on an old quote and almost fell off my chair to find they had a spare screen/digitizer/keyboard/slider etc "second hand" for $90 NZD.
BOOM jumped on that, parts arrived I swear they are brand new !
Took it apart following a video guide, 60mins or so later she is as good as new
Like really new, never realised just how worn my keyboard was :/
WOHU
If anyone needs help with such things be sure to ask I can help where possible

I wonder if you can point me to the link that instruct me to replace the cracked screen of my D3 Global with a new screen. The screen was cracked but the phone functions well and it can display well all the icons I have in the phone. Much appreciate!!

How about this: http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid-3/530813-motorola-droid-3-screen-repair-guide.html
Congrats!! My D3 took a nosedive onto the concrete a few weeks back, scared the crap out of me... I thought for sure I'd busted my screen, but these phones are built like tanks.
nice to hear others have succeeded with repairs
apologies for no response, thought I was to be notified of replies :/ apparently not!
Hi guys! So .. I wanted the Z since release but I couldnt affort it back then .. so i saved my money and I was able to buy a used one (but still with the printed film on it) with simlock for cheap (because of the simlock) .. then I removed the simlock and Im actually ready to go .. while ive been doing all this and earlier I read articles about the phone .. everyone loved it .. So then i ordered it. Now i should be ready to go but while searching for some good custom roms on here ive also took a look into the troubleshooting thread...and i found some very major problems .. for example the lifting backplate when the phone is heating up or in sunny and warm weather conditions...that wasnt that much of a problem for me tbh...but then I found the posts about the sudden cracking screens or back glasses when taking it out of the pocket or because of changing weather conditions ... so that made me really concern about my device and I stopped using it now. and im thinking about selling it (its still has the printed film so its still kinda new) and getting an HTC One or something .. but i actually want to keep the Z I love the design and the ability to get a 32gb (or even 64?) micro sd card in it ...I also know about the flaps wearing out soon but I dont rely on the waterproof thing anyway . I also noticed that there have been much more english people complaining about cracked glasses .. when I take a look at german forums or enter the problem in google there arent that much people complaining (maybe because of the climate thats different in germany) ... so .. what would you suggest me to do? Id also like to know how much people there are that have the phone (nearly) since it was released and are still happy with it .. and id also like to know some more MAJOR problems..so hopefully you can help me and give me an advice!
greetings
Hello everyone,
I need some help. I live in Dubai and I'm going to buy a Z1 in the coming days. My problem is - I want to know how to tell straight away whether my phone is the one with a defective yellowish tint or a normal brilliant sony display. Im more or less a noob and reading through the threads here I haven't been able to ascertain this and instead have been left quite confused.
I was hoping one of the experts on here could help me come up with a quick way (e.g. turning it on and checking for a setting or firmware etc.) or even just turning it on and looking for something in particular. This is something I can quickly do in the retail outlet without waiting till I get home and then coming back and fighting with the store (as is commonplace in the middle east haha). I had the Z before and now I'm using a horrible horrible BB Z10 and the only thing stopping me from walking into a store and picking up the Z1 is this!
Thanks in advance.
Hello!
You can go to setting > about device > diagnostics > test device > scree and see if I is white or yellowish, if you ware not sure about it, go to the same place on the phone showed for testing and compare them.

Checked it one month ago in Sony Store at Dubai Mall (right ahead when You come from rail-station "Dubai Mall" entering the mall). Compared exhibit devices with my Z1: all the same brilliant screens ............... people were quite nice there, shouldn´t be a problem to check Your purchased device: if screen is pure white and sharp under the illumination at Dubai Mall Your device is okay. Maybe You can ask them to let You check against a Galaxy Note in the store opposite to Sony´s when You leave a full deposite ...............
Greetings ...............
Lolol lots of people who had white screens noticed yellow hue after fw change... IMHO all screen are the same, just need to adjust colors....
