Question Samsung Upgrade 2022 - S21 to S22 UK - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

Has anyone actually been able to order an S22 Ultra on Samsung Upgrade? It just tells me they have Technical Difficulties or the loan agreement number is wrong (it isn't)...
Would be interesting to see what people have tried to get through or if anyone else has this same issue?

I ordered last night .... site was struggling and under a lot of load ...
I cancelled the order this morning .... I was going to give Exynos the benefit of the doubt but no, i cannot justify that anymore .... more benchmarks came out last night showing Exynos 2200 is barely still matching 888 let alone 8G1

Explorer Edition - does it actually exist....?

Its been a fair amount of time since the 'regular' Mi 8 launched. Does anyone on this forum have an Explorer Edition? I've not seen a single place that has stock (just pre-orders and no idea when they might be shipped). It would seem odd to have such a big lag between the two editions, particularly if people are paying top price for something that's bleeding edge technology (and the risk of it being less and less so as other new products get launched). Anyone know anything about the Explorer?

I could be wrong but I have a vague memory reading that it would be 1000 EE phones at launch then rest would come at a later date and last global firmware got EE support so I would say it's gearing up for release anytime now. Though it seems EE has smaller battery than standard and in screen fingerprint reader as real differences.
It exists, check on youtube.
Local resellers here in the Philippines already have it.
Does anyone know when it will be available to ship wide world ? Mi Max 3 will appear soon, and still no info about Mi8 EE...
I just got one from Trading Shenzen, it wasn't cheap and so far I'm happy with my purchase. Only gripe I have so far with the phone is the inability to install Netflix on the phone since it comes with the Chinese rom. It took me a couple attempts but I finally got Google Play installed also. All I need now is to find a retailer that sells a decent tempered glass screen protector that won't take forever and a day to ship it to me.

A70 price in Europe is 399€

Hello, confirmed by Samsung DE price is 399 Euros https://www.samsung.com/de/smartphones/galaxy-a70-a705fnds/SM-A705FZKUDBT/
UK price was confirmed pre-launch as £369, but Samsung UK have gone very quiet on the subject now. Although there is a product page on their site (https://www.samsung.com/uk/smartphones/galaxy-a70/SM-A705FZBUBTU/ which was actually there from before the start of the big Launch Event on 10 April) there is no pricing or any pre-order option yet.
I do hope it will actually arrive on 26 April as promised, as my main workhorse device has recently died and I'm having to use an old Galaxy S4 in the meantime, and the A70 looks like a perfect replacement for me on paper at least - big screen, big battery, decent enough processor for non-gaming use, decent enough camera as I use a DSLR for real photos, and a 3.5mm jack and SD Card slot.

Yes it's that battery that is the killer feature for me - I had a lenovo P2 and then switched to a nokia 7.1 plus but need that bigger battery...

Same here. I had a Galaxy Note 3 (until it's memory chips sadly gave up on it last month, which was terminal, RIP) and I would always carry a fully-charged spare battery tucked away at the back of my wallet. If the main battery ran low during a busy day's usage, I would pop in the spare and instantly be back up to 100%. No messy cables or bulked-out booster covers to carry, and no recharging time - just zero to 100 in about 45 seconds. Sadly that ship has sailed now it seems.
Also my Note 3 had a bigger screen than any of the supposed "upgrades" that Samsung have released since. And by bigger I mean wider - I really don't care especially about taller/thinner devices with ratios greater than 16:9 as I can't reach any of that upper area one-handed anyway. The strange ratios also make it impossible to properly compare devices by diagonal screen measurement of course, as it would be possible to release a half-inch wide device that is 7 inches tall and still market it as a 7-inch screen! I'll have to live with it now though I guess, just as long as the new screen is not much narrower, width-wise, than what I'm used to (about 7.2 mm).
Oh, and while I'm whinging I also hate the curved-edge screens that Samsung has been making almost a trademark on higher-end devices over the last few years. What is the point, I can see no functional advantage whatsoever?
So anyway, back on topic, I'm hoping the A70 should tick as many of my boxes as possible as a replacement for my Note 3, apart from raw CPU power and wireless charging, and the pen that I never used. We'll see anyway - and hopefully very soon, although it's gone very quiet in terms of availability dates or companies taking pre-orders.

I notice that Samsung are doing a £50 off on the a50 if you take in an old phone (I have a HTC that I paid £10 from Tesco three years ago in a drawer) - hopefully they do the same with the a70...

Where is that A50 offer, online with Samsung? I know some markets have done a "regardless of condition / whether it's working", which would be a good way to dispose of my non-booting Note 3.

Hi,
Yes the OFFICIAL price in EUROPE (with tax included) is €399, for the version with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of Internal Storage. I'll prefer for this price to have the 8GB of RAM, but I feel Samsung doesn't likes to sell that model in Europe (like the 6GB of A50).
I hope to see some offerts around €350, as that's a good price for it!
I'm guessing we'll get the 6GB version too. Samsung UK support told me in an online livechat (no confirmed dates from them yet by the way) that the A70 will feature an Exynos chipset, which seems contrary to everything I've read so far (which says Snapdragon 675). I'm guessing they got it wrong to be honest.

Funny because my story is very similar. I had S8 which died, so now I'm back on my old S4 which barely holds any charge and is so slow and janky (with custom ROM). After using S8 for almost 2 years I realized that I hate curved screens with passion. A70 seems like a perfect phone for my needs, I'm actually counting days until it hits stores.

Everyone hates curved-edge screens, but no one wants to admit it. My girlfriend wants to get rid of her S8 (she reminds me every day how much she hates the curved screen :laugh. She's thinking about replacing it with a P30. I'm probably going to replace my LG G6 with the A70. I really miss a bigger battery and screen from my Huawei mate 7 days. Can't wait. Counting days with you! :highfive:
Samsung's customer contact team (UK) still doesn't seem to have any idea when the A70 will be released. They said this morning that they'll email me when they know anything more.
I did refer them to their own Press Release dated 27 March, which clearly states "The Galaxy A70 will be available in the UK from 26th April, RRP £369", see https://news.samsung.com/uk/capture-connect-and-conquer-with-the-new-samsung-galaxy-a70 (unless they redact it anyway).
Hey ho, just don't expect the left hand and the right hand to know what the other is doing.
Andre
I just had a reply in response to my email to the contact address that was given in the Samsung Press Release. They said:
Thanks for your email.
Yes as per the release, the A70 model will be available to purchase in the UK from next Friday, 26 April.
You can find out more information on the product here.

Perhaps they should inform their own online sales team then, and their customer services department, and maybe even retailers?
Andre
I contacted Samsung UK again (via their FB messenger) as there is still no availability info from their own website, nor from any retailers in the the UK, and they replied:
We can confirm that the A70 will be released on Friday, but there will be no pre-order, as this only occurs with our flagship models. Also, we are unable to confirm which retailers will be selling the phone, so are unable to comment on where it will be available.

Fingers crossed then, but it does seem odd for there to be such little fanfare, or even any demo units in stores, just a couple of days before a Samsung release though. I was hoping to go and see Avengers Endgame on Friday morning and buy a new phone in the afternoon.
Andre
Bad news guys, release date for A70 according to Amazon.de is May 15th. That would explain why there is no availability info in UK and elsewhere in Europe because it's still 3 weeks off.

When the A50 was launched a few weeks ago there was no fanfare or pre registration, it just became available to buy in stock on the release day.
The concerning thing for me is that most European retailers are claiming they won't be getting stock until mid May and the A50 was launched in most European markets before the UK so it seems strange that they would reverse the release for the A70. And I doubt there would be a 3 week gap between a UK release and a European one.
Just gotta wait and see what happens tomorrow I suppose. Argos was the 1st retailer to stock the A50 when that was released so I'd keep an eye on their website tomorrow

I did message Argos and they said they don't have any info (and they checked with the B'ham store and they have no stocks waiting for release) but sometimes these things just drop onto their system without notice, so to check back tomorrow. Not holding my breath though.
Oh well, going to see Avengers End Game in the morning anyway, so that'll be some consolation if no phone yet.
Andre
Samsung have now re-edited their press release to say "The Galaxy A70 will be available in the UK from the 3rd May, RRP £369". Also Caphone Warehouse have messaged me back to say A40, A50 and A70 all on 1st May. Ho hum.
On the plus side, The Avengers was very good.

General [INDIA] Galaxy S21 Ultra news, pre-order, offers etc. discussion thread.

Too early to believe, but Samsung Opera House(Bengaluru) has started taking blind prebooking for the Galaxy S21 series already as per THIS article.
Unsurprisingly India would get the Exynos 2100 SoC in this series and I just hope it performs on par with Snapdragon 888.
Why would they make the screen smaller for the s21 ultra than the existing one ? No one seems to have mentioned this.
yeah its only .100" smaller, too me that`s not a big thing for me, but the thing is it will have the LTPO display which I guess is supposed to give better contrast to black colors, also I`m not sure but i have heard talk of the fingerprint reader being 2x faster...... so well see, I`ll be ordering one in the unlocked in black the 512gb version
In the USA you can register for your S21 in the Samsung Shop app. Looks like you get an extra $70 store credit for registering. Can't wait to get the S21 ultra!

The thing I like about Samsung out here in India is that with perks of cashbacks & coupons(if prebooked) the pricing becomes eqivalent to the USA pricing(has been so far) ..
I'm finding the news [email protected] S21 series interesting too. Will get "Exynos" but highly it feels like it would be on par this time around, if not better, excluding the GPU.
I seriously hope the LTPO on the S21 series is far more superior to the one on Note 20U.
I had serious banding/green tint issues and a horrible battery drain problem due to it. The 60fps video recording also had hunting issues even with laser auto focus.
I'm back to S20U, the display feels a lot more stable and a long lasting battery.

We're coming from S10+ getting the Ultra cause of the specs and my husband likes the camera features. It'll probably be to big for me but I am getting it. We won't upgrade for a while so I want the best of the bunch.
Do you think there will be any discounts with pricing if you don't trade in? I have a S9+ right now and am waffling back and forth between getting the S21 Ultra or getting a Note 20 Ultra ($800 thru work).
Have pre-reserved for S21 series because I thought we'd get the Buds Pro and Smart tag as preorder offers alongwith the free case. That is what the leakers had said a few days back but not it seems Buds Pro won't be part of the offer. Also coupled with missing charger and possible missing SD card and extra charges for SPen, will it be worth spending so much extra to sell my Note 20 U for the S21U?
P.S. The only reason I was willing to upgrade was because my Note 20 U is getting heated up a lot + because of the Exynos 2100 finally catching up to SD.

You got the VIP pass for the next Galaxy after you pre reserved it?
In India prebooking is of no use, last time for the Note 20U the cashback and freebies were offered even to customers who did not prebook and bought the phone well after the prebook purchase window. (craze for flagships in India are at an all time low, thanks to OnePlus and Samsung themselves).
Also the Note 20U was up in the corporate program with 5% discount in a matter of few days including the 9k cashback and freebies.
I will get the S21U only during the first week of Feb.
I'm expecting the price to be around 90k for S21U 256gig, anything more than that, I might as well wait for Z flip 2/3 later in April.

No I didn't get any VIP pass. Was I supposed to? If I don't like what I see tomorrow, I am going to just refund my ₹2000 and wait for Feb/March to buy it. The only thing keeping me from the flip/fold is that the camera is always a generation behind in these devices.
I for one, do no find these "pre-registering"(or any other name) hulabaloos fascinating at all given that it's a Samsung flagship.
Irrespective of card/cash or other payment methods, I've been getting Samsung flagships on the very 1st day of market release buying from small retailers for a much lower price than the price quoted by bigger retailers or the biggest retailers with a fixed price or buying directly from Samsung online or offline for quite sometime now. The cost everytime turns out to be the lowest this way in comparison to the cost combined with any other CC/DC cashbacks/corporate offers/exchange offers/finance schemes etc... you name it.
Samsung tends(or "pretends" to be precise) to be strict with such retailers but being consumers all we need is a genuinely sourced product and a proper invoice. It makes sense because once we want to sell it later, the resale value will not at all differ based on which store we bought it from.
+
In my case, prebooking offers are always applicable in the first place as one or the other re-seller does pre-booking taking the required credentials after me getting bombarded with calls soon after official announcement of the flagship.

Smaller retailer like non Samsung but authorized dealers like Sangeetha Mobiles, Chroma, Reliance Digital?
By how much you get a discount on the selling price, I have never tried this as I always get it from the Samsung Cafe.
I kinda feel awkward asking for a discount in Samsung Cafes

No not those big formats, they don't as they don't need to and they can't either. Smart cafés can but they will not.
Instead, approach a few small multibrand players if you have time for it. They need flagship buyers to stay alive in the eyes of big brands for their own promotion/survival and to do so, they let go of it for extremely thin margins.
I happened to purchase two N20U units costing 90k each from two diff. sellers(when it was 1st released) - that's one example.

AFAIK, Samsung smart cafe franchises actually get the highest profit margins for each product they sell compared to other resellers. And it's the marketing skills and subsequent illusions created by the staff that make one feel awkward to ask for a discount.... Nope? The one running the franchise CAN give big discounts, but doesn't want to. They actually ended up giving me discounts a few times in the past but then I stopped visiting them lately as altogether I don't find it worth it.

Buying S20 FE in the US

I've been out of the rooting, flashing ROM loop for a really long time. The last time I used a Samsung phone and rooted it was 5 years ago. I do remember that certain versions/models don't allow dual-sim support, custom ROM or rooting. I'm coming to the US this January and I plan on buying a phone at around $700 price range. My eyes are on S20 FE. Would you please enlighten me if it's a good idea to order it from Amazon or should I buy it from someplace else to ensure I'm not missing out on something?
Thank you.
If you look in the ROM section there are rumors you can unlock this unit but it is a paid service. I am very happy with this phone, and the lack of root is my only complaint. Very good phone in all other respects.

Question [Advice] Samsung Tab S8 Ultra

Hello all
I pre-ordered the S22 Ultra and Tab S8 Ultra. Now that I've got them I find the S8 Ultra to be too big. I wanted to exchange it for the S8+ but the Samsung shop staff are beyond useless. Apparently, they cannot simply exchange it. I have to return BOTH devices and order again.
The thing is, I had a discount code, traded-in a couple of devices and got a discount for buying both devices. I am more than happy to keep 2 devices. All I want is to exchange one and Samsung are not really providing a half-decent customer support which is really disappointing.
I ordered the S8 Ultra with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.
I opened the box and saw the size and decided that it was too big. Apart from that the tablet itself is still in its original wrapping. I considered selling it to cex .co .uk and they're offering less than half the price which is not an option for a brand new device.
Any advice on what I can do to get Samsung to assist or a viable alternative option?
Sell your Tab S8 Ultra directly to someone else on Swappa or Ebay (or your local equivalent). Use that money to buy a S8+. Easy.
@thecrater I see you're in London?
Why not take it, with all the delivery paperwork, to one of the Samsung Experience Stores in London and see if you can work something out with the in store Manager?
I would be interested in perhaps buying it from you, but only if it has 5G (I'm in London as well...so can meet face to face), but you're better trying to store first.
@pinsb
I am in London. It is the 5G model.
My experience with the Samsung Experience Store, at least the one that was in Wembley is not great when it comes to online orders.
If you're interested it, dm me
Here in sweden you can try device up to 60 days and If you do not want to keep it you can return it. But the device must be in new condition.
Samsung Experience Stores are not part of the official Samsung brand... They are run by a 3rd Party...
You could try Oxford Street though...
CEX prices are naturally not going to be that high... Mostly because they need to make a profit somwehere.
Seriously keep the Ultra (S8) itll grow on you...!
