Push notification is not working for me with the mail apps I tried,
Yahoo app, Spark app, Mail app (by Edison software), onMail app and Protonmail app.
All these apps doesn't push any notification and they doesn't even check if I got new email.

Which mail app do you use in LineageOS ?

Yahoo should be able to do push notification if you're using IMAP.
However, if none of those apps are receiving push notifications or even doing scheduled mail checks, it sounds like they aren't configured correctly.
Make sure the mail app is configured to do scheduled mail checks; has push mail enabled; is using the IMAP protocol; and is not being optimised by the system.
With some mail apps, there could be settings at both app and individual account level for scheduled mail check and push mail. If the settings are not on at the app level, that might override the account settings. Make sure the settings are on at both levels if applicable.

Try an email client that is on F-Droid like FairEmail or k-9email, these could work as no google services (in this case cloud messaging for push notifs) are allowed on F-Droid.

Thank you!!
FiarEmail do work, and it has tons of features.
One thing, Yahoo app is the only email app from the mentioned before that do appears under "Settings"->" Account" and there is a feature where it say Sync. Strangely it doesn't sync, not sure why but it should work.
Anyway FairEmail so solve the problem,
Thanks again

[E-mail vs Gmail]

This is probably an android noob thing, but I cannot seem to understand how to use the "email" app and the "gmail" app.
I want to use the stock/default android email app, you know, the one with the black background? However, I am seriously annoyed by the fact that when I receive a single new email, I get two notifications in the notifications bar; One from the gmail app and one from the stock/default email app.
How do I use this? It's required to set up a gmail account for marketplace to work. But I hate replicate notifications.
Do I just delete one entirely from the app folder?
Whats the best way to work along/around this?
You can turn off the Gmail apps notifications by delving into it's settings.
Go to gmail app, hit menu, go to more, select settings, uncheck Email Notifications. Gmail app will no longer notify you.
but if you just turn off the notification it will still be syncing in the background so if you dont want to use the gmail app go into accounts & sync and under your mail address uncheck sync gmail
the gmail app is used for just that, gmail. the email app is used to connected to exchange servers, pop3 accounts, imap accounts, basically any email that isnt gmail.

you get two notifications because you have set up your gmail account on Email app. Gmail app is way better than Email app (my opinion)
Option1: Delete gmail account from Email app and just use the Gmail app.
Option2: Go to Gmail app settings and disable notifications and use Email app (it will still be synchronizing).
Option3: Uninstall Gmail app and use Email app.

Agreed!
If only I could make my ActiveSync account (work Exchange) to use the Gmail app for mail display instead of Email.apk's viewer.
Personally I think the Gmail app sucks ****. Its so annoying to see the Gmail notification (like push email) and then only go into Mail to actually read it after hitting refresh.
Real cockup in my opinion, but then again I don't hold android in the highest light anyway.
I personally like the gmail app. I never need to press refresh. My push works great. I see the notification or the green trackball (color I set for gmail) then pull down menu and select the notification for Gmail and it loads that message right up.

That's pretty much wrong if I understand you correctly. If I get a notification from the Gmail app of a new mail, I press it and it's right there in my inbox without having to refresh it first.
I also like the Gmail app better than the built-in e-mail app.
The Gmail Push?
I have nexus one, it normally syncs every hour (i set it so)..
Why dont I get the push option? (my operator supports push mail)
If you use Gmail app - the push is automatic and the only way. You don't configure the sync time, because it has no such option.
If you use Email app for Gmail - check if you can set it to Automatic(Push) option (it's the topmost option on the list).
If you set Gmail as Exchange, it can push. If it's set as IMAP then it has to be set to poll.
Ok did that, and and yeh, its push.
Its a lil slow though (it gets a lil delayed).. but Im glad it works..

[Q] Email not syncing

My email ( default email app, not gmail app ) wont sync automatically, I don't have a task killer, doing some research I am starting to think its because I don't have a universal inbox app.
I am not sure if I deleted it or if my ROM ( Phoenix ) came without it.. Is it why my email app wont sync automatically ? if so, can I get a universal inbox app from someone please
what is your email account which is not sync?

All of them! 3 gmail accounts, and 1 hotmail account.
I don't use gmail app, I just want one program for mail, so I have been using the default app, which I believe is a samsung app. I removed gmail, and I may have removed unified inbox thinking its for facebook and stuff I don't use. I am not sure this is the cause but my accounts using the email app wont sync automatically, I have to manually tell them to refresh.
If its just that missing unified inbox app maybe I can get it off someone, but I don't know.
Can someone shed some light on this?

you can use Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync to get hotmail's email, so it will push the email to your phone.
Well I need 1 client for everything ... something is wrong. The default mail app used to work at some point, I just want to know why its not syncing mail every 15 minutes like its set to.
Is the default mail app ment to work with universal inbox? I thought mail was an android app and universal inbox is a samsung app, so I doubt it, but why wont it sync?

[Q] Immediate email notification????

I am using cammster.com as one of my security applications at home. it sends me an email when it detects motion. However, I cannnot seem to find a friendly app that will send am email immediately to my Sprint Hero.
What free email program and app can I use that will send me an email when cammster sends it out, and notify me right away.
I have tried a google account (gmail), but it seems to want to check for emails at predefined intervals when using the main email client (that I also use for a work (exchange) email address).
I tried a yahoo (ymail) app and email addy, but it would conflict with my work email and stop the program from receiving the work or the ymail mail.
I quickly tried K9 app, but couldn't figure out how to use it with the yahoo mail to notify me immediately of the new email
Any suggestions?!?!?
The gmail client does push notifications. You should use the gmail client not the mail client for a google account (gmail).

Are you on a Rom? Or are you on the stock sense rom? I am curious because sense is a bit more friendly with accounts and sync.. in the settings menu, there is actually a section called "Accounts & Sync". In there, you can enable background data and auto-sync. It will probably not be instantaneous, but honestly, your battery would die immediately if your phone was constantly checking your email. I suggest WildHeroc as it is currently the bomb digity. Have a good night.

Nexus 6 Best email app?

Hi,
I'm looking for a good email app for my Nexus 6. I basically only use a personal outlook/hotmail account. I want to sync emails manually only, not push nor auto sync after a few minutes. With the gmail app, when I delete an email in my outlook IMAP account, it comes back and i have to delete it again. it annoys me. I've tried removing and re-adding my account as well. So Gmail is a no go unless this problem is fixed. I've tried many apps from the Play store including aquamail, cloudmagic, K9-mail, bluemail, WeMail, Air Mail-email, Solmail, Outlook app and Email Typemail mail. I'm not satisfied with any of these apps because either 1. no manual sync option (only push) 2. interface isn't that nice, 3. takes too much time to load emails. I've tried Nine which is perfect for me, but I'm looking for a free app. Currently, I'm using Boxer but still not totally satisfied as it takes time to refresh my emails. Any suggestions of free third party apps will be appreciated or maybe testes stock email apps of other phones?
Thanks!
You've mentioned that you have to delete the email twice. I'm assuming you're deleting the email in GMail, then having to enter your Outlook account and delete it there, if I'm understanding you correctly. If that is the case, then the problem is with your email setup. IMAP by design leaves messages on the server, since with IMAP only a copy is downloaded to a client, with the original remaining on the server. Since Outlook is your server, you have to access Outlook to permanently delete the message. If that behavior is not what you want, check in the settings for your Outlook account and see if you can send messages using POP3 instead of IMAP.
If you can make the switch to POP, the GMail app should then function as you expect it to, deleting the messages off both server and client.

k9mail is best option.
And I suspect that complaint of "only push" is targeting k9mail (since the rest of your complaints definitely don't apply), so I will say that you CAN set it to be exclusively manual. Its in Account Settings --> Fetching Mail --> Push folders, set it to "none". Also so it NEVER checks unless you tell it to, set Poll folders also to "none".
Edit: This should give you a hint;
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=159420
Seems that MS does NOT implement the "Trash" directory in their IMAP structure. That means that any attempt to delete a message via an IMAP client will perform the deletion locally, then issue a MOVE command to move the message from INBOX to Trash on the server, and since the "Trash" directory doesn't exist, the MOVE fails on the server and the message remains in the INBOX.
Solution: in k9mail account settings --> folders, scroll down to "Trash folder", and select "Deleted Items".

Actually, I meant deleting it twice from the Gmail app. So for instance, I get an email and delete it in Gmail by swiping. After several seconds, I'll get a notification or receiving that same email. And then I have to delete it again in the Gmail app.
Even so, IMAP could very easily cause this, for the reasons stated. But thanks for the clarification.

No. IMAP *can't* cause this unless there is either a protocol failure OR a configuration error.
How do you resolve the OP's problem then?

I've actually setup my account with exchange activesync on the Gmail app. Entered the manual settings for setting up the Exchange account and now the Gmail app seems okay. Although, it's sending emails only from my outlook alias and not the orignal email ID, but that's not an issue at the moment.

No Hotmail push notifications in Gmail app

I've just got my first ever Pixel phone and must say I'm really liking it. Only issue I have is I'm not receiving any push notifications for my Hotmail account in the Gmail app. I've never used the Gmail app before but I don't think it's an issue with the app.
I've added my Hotmail account as an Active Exchange account, otherwise you don't get the push notification option. It's accepted the account fine and although push notifications is selected, it's not working. I have to manually refresh the page for new email to show.
Does anyone have a fix for this?
Edit: It does seem to the be Gmail app as I've installed another email app which receives push notifications just fine. Everything is enabled as it should be in the Gmail app.
