I am curious if anyone else experiences this and what could be the cause. I have a rooted Pixel 4a 5g running stock Android 11. Once per week I have Titanium Backup run a backup and have it reboot when the backup is done (TiBu will stop some apps for the backup and then they won't function again until a reboot). Most times everything is fine but every once in a while when I try to enter my pin after reboot, the screen is unresponsive. I then have to force power it off/on. Usually this resolves the issue but every once in a while I struggle to get the phone powered back on. Holding the power button doesn't work. Holding power plus vol down, or power plus vol up doesn't work either. I then go into a mild panic, put the phone down for a bit then try the power/vol button combos again (I never remember the exact combo that works since I am mildly panicking) and it eventually powers on with working touchscreen.
I find this behavior weird, annoying, and not in the realm of normal operation. Any thoughts what could be causing this? I use the same apps that I have used on all my previous phones and have never experienced this. Is it an Android 11 issue? Would upgrading to A12 fix it?
Appreciate any feedback!
I have similar problem - go to a bookmarked website, no touch response, restart usually fixes it....super annoying

i noticed recently that if i press the power button, it sometimes takes a really long time to turn the screen on. i know the hardware works because the backlight in the soft buttons turns on immediately, but the screen remains black for up to 10 seconds. this happens rarely. however, im fairly sure it isnt a software problem because ive wiped completely and installed a fresh rom and the problem seems to persist. perhaps i just recently noticed, and the problem was always there? does anyone else have this problem?
three threads above yours.

could be a hardware issue.
Mine does this every few days.. I am still on the stock 2.1 rom.
Mine also does this, I only noticed it after flashing Cyanogenmod 5.0.6. so I thought it might have been a bug. I also assumed it was a bug because the phone seems to act strangely when you are touching the screen and try to hit the power button.
Hopefully this isn't a hardware issue, I've had the phone since release.
Is anyone else experiencing similar issues?
It happens to me as well, but very infrequently. Maybe every few days... so it doesn't bother me enough to worry about it.
I'm on stock ROM btw.
I am leaning towards thinking this may be software related. A few minutes ago I was at the lock screen and tried about 50 times (yes I waited long enough after each press) and simply could not get the screen to turn off. I then tried long pressing the power button and, sure enough, each time it would bring up the shutdown menu (yes, over the lock screen). Must be a bug right?
Hmm, my problem's slightly different. Around half of the time, I have to press the power button twice to turn the screen on. Sometimes, pressing it the first time doesn't turn the screen on, had to press the power button firmly again.
This started only recently. On stock n1 and bought it during feb.
that means that your power button is dying, like many others' (including mine)
this is the first time, it takes 2 clicks to work....than it will increase.
Expect a repair soon...
Well i am having the issue other way around. i am not been able to put my phone in stand by mode by clicking on it and it is do a hard press then i get options to shut off the phone
any suggestions what might be causing it ?
I'm happy I haven't received this problem yet

I am having the same issue and i wonder if you were able to find the cause for it. I have the same rom as you do on your phone

I have a similar problem. When I unplug the N1 from the charger, the screen comes on showing the lock screen, and I can't get it to turn off. If I unlock the phone, however, then the power button works normally. I don't think it was doing this until recently (I bought it in January the first day it was offered and am running the stock update1 ROM).
So here is my theory if the power button is a problem then it needs to act up both ways and not only one way. right now i can put the phone in sleep mode but i can wake it up. i will post the issues on the development forum and might be able to find an asnswer to it
So seems like the issues is because of Cyanogenmod 5.0.6 because since i have flashed another rom it is working just fine. i will be doing some more testing before i can be certain
Another problem I am experiencing is when I long press the power button, it pulls up the phone options menu but also turns off the screen. It's extremely frustrating as it does this quite frequently; right after I power on the screen again and unlock the device it works properly every time - so much so that I am convinced this is a software issue.
I am now running froyo, rooted with Cyan's minor root patch. I can also say for sure I experienced the same problem on CM 5.0.6, but it definitely occurred less frequently.
Am I alone here?

I just started having this problem after upgrading to 2.2.
I have this every so often. But sometimes wonder if it is flyscreen doing it
You guys should all just be running the app no lock to take the power autumn out of the equation.
Ahhhhh! I just need trackball wakeup!
I have a similar issue where my screen will turn on but will be unresponsive. When i turn it on and off, the backlight jut comes and goes. If it times out it won't turn back on for a bit(the backlight will come on still).
I just wiped my phone, hoping that'll fix it since it only started happening on a regular basis since I updated to Froyo
I'm wondering if you guys have any fix for my problem
Here it goes :
One click on power button, it does a screen lock.
The problem is that when i hold my power button, it off the phone by itself.
I'm wondering if I want to bring back the menu when you hold the power button down? ( Besides flashing a new rom of course )
ie. Turn Power Off
Enable Flight Mode
Off Data Connection
Silent Mode
on Darkys v4.1 2.2 Froyo
Mine just started to behave like this aswell. Not out of the blue though, something went wrong with a flash and the phone got corrupted. I fixed it by installing a rom again with cwm and restored backups. Phone works fine now (as far as ive tested) except the powerbutton behaves like you describe, it makes the phone vibrate a few times and then reboots, without showing the menu to opt for shutdown and other options. Very frustrating.
Considering the way it happened im pretty sure some sort of corruption is the cause. I think a full flash with odin or heimdall may be needed. Will report back if I find out how to fix it.
Edit: I cwm-flashed extended power menu to restore my powermenu (well, replace it with custom). Still not sure what caused it, I think careless flashing, possibly involving an incompatible package.
My Nexus One is unrooted and on the latest Android 2.2.2 / FRG83G. From time to time, when I try to shut down the phone with power button (long press power button -> pick "power off" from menu), it doesn't actually power down the phone but instead rebooting back to the OS. When this happens, it usually takes 2 more attempts to properly power off the phone with the power button. Is this a software bug or is my power button going to die soon? Wonder if I'm the only one out there with this strange bug.
I've never heard of that happening. There's not a known bug that causes that... Your not rooted? IDK
Just a bug i guess, although not one i've heard before. If it's bothering you a Hard Reset may fix the problem.
I can confirm this bug. Instead of shutting down it does a quick reboot. The following shutdown always worked.
I'm running stock 2.2.2 frg83g, no mods.
I've noticed mine do that a couple of times, when plugging it in during the shutdown cycle.
do you guys experienceing this problem have wifi calling enabled/installed?
I had this problem when I was using Emonother's rom. But after trying out another rom, this problem didn't occur again already.
I just discovered yesterday that my power button seem to be not working. Pressing it doesnt lock the screen and long pressing it doesnt bring up the power options. Tried wiping everything and still the issue remains. When I pull my battery and then insert it back the phone boots itself, as if the power button is pressed all the time (even though i can still click it and its not stuck). Ive been using rom toolbox for the power menu but choosing to turn off the phone makes my phone have a screen freeze, all other options work like reboot, fast reboot, reboot recovery etc. Anyone know how to fix this?
Edit: After a couple of days my power button is working again

How did you get it to work? Or did it started working on it's on? Thanks
I've seen that happen on mine, due to a bad USB charge port. Replaced it, problem disappeared.
Any chance your device sometimes thinks it is docked to a docking station?
Inexpensive part to obtain, less than 10 dollars (usd), takes about 15 minutes or less to replace.
In the 2+ years I've had mine, I've gone through 4 of them LOL...I'm hard on charge ports I guess.

It just started working again. When I turned off my phone to place my sim back and it didnt boot up automatically, I knew the power button is working again. Pressed the power button, device booted up and the issue is gone. I dont know if mh device thinks its docked, i dont have a docking station and ive never had problems with my charging port yet.
I've been using my N7000 for 2 years and this thing happened for 3-4 times. The lock button will be like stop working, sometimes it is like being press all the time and the problem will be sorted out by itself. Normally when this happens, the phone will be laggy and will reboot by itself. Is it a common thing for this phone?how do you get your phone fixed Kcube989?
Ok, so here is my problem, I was in twitter and suddenly the phone froze, I press the power button for a while and my screen never turned on again, although I get the capacitive buttons on, at first I heard sounds like the lockscreen, I even somehow got to twrp with the screen off cause my pc recognised it in recovery mode.
I've tried to enter the mode for bricked phones but as I cannot see anything I'm unable, also tried pressing the power button for 20 seconds multiple times, dont know what else to do.
Any idea will be greatly appreciated.
Also, some info on the phone: OOS 4.1, phh roooted, magisk.
It should be press and hold power plus volume down, for around 20 seconds to force a reboot.

Yeah tried that mĂșltiple times to no avail, it was like the screen was not turning on.
I solved it by waiting 1 hour and trying again and suddenly it was working fine
This has happened to me a number of times already. It completely sucks. I boot to a black screen, capacitive buttons work, I can hold power button until I get the Power Off / Reboot menu, and from there reboot, but the screen keeps being on on the system. Recovery works fine, or so it would seem, because a few times, wiping system and reinstalling the OS gives me a "No OS installed. Are you sure you want to boot?" and EVERY time, the only solution ("solution") has been wiping data. It might start happening randomly, maybe updating Franco Kernel, maybe applying a substratum theme, maybe, like just now, after doing NOTHING at all. I don't know what to do anymore.
edit. of course, the hard bricking guide, step 2, works, but step 2 deletes your data, and if i remove the erase userdata lines, it doesn't do anything.
