[Q] Variable frame rates while shooting video

Recently, I have been recording a few short movies with my HTC One and while looking at the videos on my PC, I noticed that the frame rate is variable. I initially thought that the video was shot at 30fps under the Normal setting but the frame rates are all over the place. For example, in one video the minimum frame rate is 17.004 fps and maximum frame rate is 29.791 fps, as measured by MediaInfo. However, each video's frame rates differ slightly. Additionally, the front facing camera records very choppy video. The frame rates are around 6 fps. Is this normal?
I am curious to know why the frame rates are variable and if there is any way to get a fixed frame rate locked in. Do all video-capable smartphones have this variable frame rate feature?
Before I forget, I have also been taking some photos in varying light conditions, day and night, and the f-stop on all photos seems to be f/2, without exception. I found that strange as well.

The variable rate is to ensure it is not underexposed. Imagine it is fixed exposure, so varying shutter speed. It's more pronounced in darker environments.
The focal length and the aperture of the lens are fixed, so the f-number is a constant.

I appreciate the explanation. I worry that a low frame rate will affect the smoothness of the video. I could already see in my videos that motion was somewhat weird at times, especially in night scenes. Any smartphones out there with a fixed rate for video (ie. 24 or 30fps)?

Camera recording capability, and 8kp50?

I am inquiring about the phones video recording capabilities, and the possibility to do 8kp50.
I've tried to get rudimentary answers from support, not good.
At 4kp60 and 8k HDR, how far can the data rate go up in h265 or h264, deep the pixel depth go and format (4:2:0, 4:2:2, 4:4:4)? This is both a sensor, chipset and software question, as each of these constrict the maximum performance.
I haven't been able to find a datasheet for the sensor, but it; s said to support full 48mp at 30fps, this data rate is close to 8kp50. So, even with minor over clocking the sensor can be read at this rate. However, the 855 chipset does not support 8k video officially, but it can pull frames from the sensor a lot faster than the video mode. So, like what the Nokia 9 Pureview does to do computational photography, all the processing systems on the phone could be used to process and compress these 8k still frames to higher quality. So, is this possible?
The remaining question is, how fast can the still modes compress 8k frames (can it get continuous video rate)?

Screen refresh is 59.30 in 60 hz mode?

Hey guys,
So I recently purchased a Rog 3, mainly for smoother, better emulation (coming from a OnePlus7).
The strange thing is that, Rog's screen in 60 hz is actually 59.3 hz.
This sadly makes emulators that run at 60, to have a stutter every second or so.
Playing in higher Hz, like 120, 144...creates that slight jerkiness that always happens when one plays locked 60 fps 2D games on high speed panels. I'd much rather have 60 fps games play in 60 hz.
Anything that can be done to force true 60 hz (or at least 59.9) on this phone?

Question Oppo find x3 pro auto refresh rate

I can't seem to find a auto refresh rate enable button on the setting. There's only high and standard option. Is it normal for Oppo x3 pro version 12?

From what I recall, both the high and low settings are "dynamic" or automatic, just that at low it's capped at 60, high is 120 when possible but still dynamic, only using 120 when it thinks it's needed.
I didn't think that had changed from colour os11. I could very well be wrong.

Since the display is LTPO Oppo should take advantage of the dynamic refresh rate down to 10Hz. But unfortunately it uses either 60 or 120. It could save a lot of battery.

Question Asus camera app, video recording, frame drops

If I am recording video in pro mode 1080p 60fps H264 codec (ISO auto, shutter speed fixed value, white balance fixed value, image stabilization ON, hyper steady OFF), camera app or android OS set the CPU frequencies too low, which causes frame drops.
I don't know why only on 1080p 60fps CPU freq. are automaticaly lowered to ~710MHz/840MHz for big cores and ~1.3GHz for small cores. I can help myself if I set also ISO to fixed value...then the recorded video is almost frame drops free, but it is still on the edge (cpu utilization almost 100%).
I am using high performance system mode. Also try set min. freq. to max. in 3C CPU manager, but 1080p 60fps pro video mode always set them lower.
If I enable hyper steady(requires more performance), camera app does not touch cpu frequencies and recorded video is smooth without frame drops.
Android 13(WW-33.0210.0210.210), rooted.

Can someone confirm this issue?
