I am currently on G780FXXU8DVC8 firmware and I want to flash G780FXXS7CUI5
I know that right now the binary no is 8 and the firmware I want to install has binary 7.
Can anyone tell me if it is possible to do so using Odin? As i've heard one can't go to a lower binary using Odin.
Is there a way to go to a lower binary?
it's not possible via Odin, technically it probably is still possible with a lot of work modifying the firmware. obviously it wouldn't count as official firmware, and no I don't know how.

OK, this is my second post on XDA, but I'm finding it a little more difficult to get to grips with the Note and its workings, coming from my HTC Desire.
I'm currently on Kernel version KKA, and have read Dr. Ketan's guide about how to root your device, which seems very straightforward. My phone is prompting me to download a new firmware, which I assume would make it more difficult to root, as it would have a newer kernel than the one I currently run, so I have held off for now.
My question is, if I root and want to apply the firmware update, I assume I can do this manually, and would obviously prefer to maintain root, rather than downloading over the air, which would remove my root. From what I've read, I assume I could do this with Mobile Odin Pro, but could I also apply a pre-rooted version of the new firmware, and if so, which is the firmware I should use?
Like many of you, I am waiting for the official ICS upgrade before I mess around too much with my device. Thanks for any advice you could give.

why would you wanna search for pre-rooted rom when u can keep rooted in all stock rom with just few easy steps???? Its very easy with CWM !
Yes exactly agree to priyanv
You have kka rootable ROM, just root n get cwm.
Then you can update any ROM, either with mobile odin or cwm
Just want to advise somthing, but b4 that just decide, which rom you want to update after rooting.

Well, I see two distinct methods to get root.
1. Flash kernel+recovery with odin, then flash the su binary.
2. Flash the whole /system with su binary included.
Is there any other way I'm missing here?
I want to keep my rom very close to the original.
Seems the best method for this is the first one.

Yes, I'm aware of that.
I'm thinking in terms of stability.
The kernel is get from source of samsung? (probably)
Will not be exactly like the original.
The firmware is get from (I have no idea)?
The latest firmware available in a thread is older than mine.
KIES has any kind of recovery? reflash the original firmware? forget about odin.
I'm asking this because I have a P970, this phone has a separated recovery where you can flash the original firmware directly from LG webserver.
Samsung has something similar?

You flash rooted kernel, and after that the one that is yours. So it will be the same.

Hello,
i got an rootet Note with CWM v3.0
My software version is 2.3.6, my band is XXKK5, bought in Austria.
I would like to do an update, my phone says there is no update, so i would choose manually.
I have not much knowledge about mobiles, so always read here (same when i did the root)
But as more i read, the more confused i get.
I dont know what file to choose, that fits with my baseband, i read this is important.
My noobish idea was, i could find a file and do the update with CWM to keep root.
Anyway, i could do the root again after the update, i think.
Can you please tell me what to do and point to me where to start?

If you are already rooted, use mobile Odin if you are willing to flash an stock firmware. You can choose any of this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18978158
Or get one from www.sammobile.com
In Dr. Ketans thread you have how to flash using mobile Odin. Take into consideration that if you are going to flash a 4.0.x firmware you also will need to flash a safe kernel to avoid the brick bug.

So I had a botched situation caused by me when flashing a custom Rom (Rom/instructions is great, I went off the reservation myself) and had a soft brick.
I had decided at that point to just revert back to stock and not play around until things stabilize with Eng more. However, I couldn't.
The last stock referenced topic is with an outdated firmware and being 950U1 rather than just U. Downloading updated firmwares (or even attempting that one blindly) resulted in "Device dismatch".
I was then basically forced to (and successfully) go to SamPWN but that wasn't my initial intention.
Does anyone have an updated guide on how we can go back to stock without EngBoot, and specifically also states which CSC file is needed?

I may not have the answer, but check these guys and ask questions there, you should get an answer.

And this link if from an unlocked S8 forum, but it has some info that you can find useful.

As I stated, I've attempted this and it failed. Plus it doesn't explain which file for the CSC had it worked anyhow. Downloading the latest results in the model dismatch. So can't JUST download and flash. But thanks for atleadt trying.
@charkata thanks for the links, I'll check them out and see how that goes.

Not the home version. And try using modified Odin.

I'll give it a go, going to try to do it in an hour or so and see if it'll work with the PrinceC version.
Is there any chance (in your or anyone elses opinion) that the mismatch could be the result of the custom rom being based on U1 rather than just U?

No, it can't modify hardware based model number.

You should be able to just completely reflash the stock TMB firmware with the modded Odin without an issue...am I understanding correctly that this did not work? Download the Prince Comsey modded Odin. It has a .ini file that you need to open w/ a text editor like notepad++, and edit UMS=0 to UMS=1 -this allows you to also flash the userdata file included in the TMB firmware, along w/ the normal BL, AP, CP & CSC.
Make sure you downloaded the correct firmware for the S8 (G950U), not S8+ (G955U).

Did this work? Can anyone confirm? If not, I'm going to try it this weekend and hopefully I'll remember to reply here with results.
I was wondering if it was possible to unpack the stock AP file, remove bloatware and then repack it. Although, I'm not so sure if this is possible since I haven't seen anyone try this? Im just curios.

Yes you can but you won't be able to flash it with Odin anymore. There's a reason why you haven't seen it done. If it were that easy we wouldn't have a need for unlocked bootloaders, root access, & custom recoveries.
