Without having registered I followed for almost two years here in the forum the fantastic work that @Ivan_Meler is providing for owners of an old Galaxy S7. I got mine from my daughter. She wasn't happy any more with it because it was outdated and battery life too short. I do have a mobile phone (Nokia slider-phone), but didn't want a smartphone that calls home to Google and others all the time and is overloaded with bloat-ware. As I prefer Open Source (using Linux (Mint) as normal PC-OS) to saveguard as best as reasonable my personal data, I thought I would try a custom ROM on the S7. It took me some time reading and following up the various little (!) problems the users of Ivan Meler's LOS 18 & 19 had until I decided that it was time to try it out myself.
I got the - I think - usual problems when flashing the S7 with LOS 19.1 and flamegapps. Black screen, boot-loop, etc. but not too nasty. Finally it turned out great; with LinageOS 19.1 and a number of dedicated apps (bromite, k9-mail, Signal, Musicolet music player, VLC, Memorix, Navigator_MapFactor ) and most importantly NetGuard-V2.300 the Galaxy S7 runs like a charm and battery life is excellent. With NetGuard I deny some of the home-phoning apps (especially Navigator) the access to Facebook and Google statistics, etc. A marvelous tool provided by Marcel Bokhorst.
I have to admit that I would not pay nor do any banking with a smartphone, I prefer cash and my LinuxPC for online banking. And until now I have not inserted the SIM-card into the S7 as I still use my Nokia. With the S7 I am using my home W-Lan and throughout the city (in Bavaria) there are free hotspots from BayernWLAN. Ok, you might call me a too conservative user, but for me it works out perfectly. Until now .... we will see how things develop.
Now I have registered and thank @Ivan_Meler and all who support this fantastic forum!

Hi guys,
First of all, a great (really great !) thanks to all and everyone involved with the JellyBean evervol rom, it work very very well on my dear old N1...
Well, it works very well but not quite flawlessly for me, and since I have not been able to find complaint about this on the dedicated topic in the android dev section, I post my questions here :
Since about one week ago, I remarked that my phone seems often unable to use the 3G connection : I mean I have full scale network with 3G label in the notification bar, but the logo stays grey (not turning blue) and all data request meet a deadend (chrome, news, gmail, ...) while, if I turn wifi on, it works great ...
And since 2 days ago, I started to have another trouble : my sim card just keep locking itself without (apparent) reason, I have to enter the pin code nearly every 5mn ...
No idea of what may be causing that ...
OK, I think I will in some times fall in love with the Nexus 4, but my N1 still working great with this superb Rom, I would like to wait a little (for instance, the time for Google to announce a 32 Go version of their baby ...)
So many thanks to anyone who can help me puting some additional life into this dear N1 ...
For info, I'm running the 3.1.0p1 version of the rom with a 32.50.00.32U_5.12.00.08 radio and I'm running on the Free Mobile network in France ...
I don't know what additional information I could provide to help, or any diagnostic I can run ?
Thank you in advance for your help ...
Hey guys,
After much research it looks like we might never get an update to JellyBean. I'm thinking about going with one of the custom roms, but have a few questions.
- What are the drawbacks? I see that most people mention losing WIFI Calling and TouchWiz.
- Since I only have 100 minutes, I use talkatone (w/ google voice) for free calls using wifi/data... will losing the wifi calling feature effect this?
- Does losing TouchWiz mean losing support for some of the Note's features (especially with regards to s-pen related features)?
Talkatone and WiFi calling are independent of each other. You can use talkatone.
The s-pen functionality is still there and it works fine. What you lose are the samsung s-pen apps such as s-memo and s-note. There are suitable replacement apps available in the play store. Stylus gestures are only in the ROMs released since June I think.
Also, latest jellybean 4.22 is unstable with the chipset the note is built on. There are occasional random reboots, some graphical issues. Recommend that you either use a 4.1.2 ROM, such as CyanogenMod 10.0, or a 4.2.2 dated from mid April or before, which is when the instabilities started. So CyanogenMod "experimental" or "snapshot" or M3 (three names, same rom) dated 4-11-13 works pretty well for me.
Hi All,
I am considering getting a Mi Mix. I was checking around for general issues or problems with the phone but so far I found only rare issues on the hardware itself. Did you encountered big issues with the Mi Mix?`
I plan to use it as a tablet to play games and read books, I don't plan to use it as a phone or for the camera (which I understood is bad). What do you think, would this work?
Thanks,
Marius
Truth be told, the camera is indeed as in the reviews - a complete misunderstanding.
Apart from that, this is one of the sweetest (albeit most slippery) pieces of tech I've ever held.
The performance is not stellar, but really great nonetheless - including gaming & the screen is a sight to behold.
You need to get used to the speaker during calls. Networking/connection is mostly OK - I get LTE in the EU but have experienced random disconnections. Nothing to be concerned about. GPS & WIFI are nothing to write hime about, but OK.
USB transfer is slow though.
I would still recommend it nethertless, & 10x over a Galaxy S8(+).
Camera is a pain... all other stuff is very good...
4G : if you knwo your carrier band everything will work like a charm...
CPU / GPU : SD821 still make job in 2017... user interface is fluid, gaming is fluid...
About USB, no any trouble here about speed...
BT, Wifi, GPS, NFC, etc... all works like a charm...
Custom ROM, we have some choice here then, it's a good phone if ur are not a selfie/picture fanatic...
Hi all,
I've been a long time viewer and user of the info here in XDA, I think I was probably even a member here in the past. It's been a few years since I last rooted a phone, so seems this is where I need to be.
I've gone down this path as for the last few months, I have been putting up with the frustration of my new work phone (a Galazy A11). The only good thing about the A11 is its battery life, it is terribly underpowered and due to this I can't get it to stay connected to Android Auto & it doesn't support Paywave. So I decided that my 4 year old U11 with the latest Android was going to be more useful. So I have once again started down the journey of rooting and updating a phone - only to find 2 of the things I can't get to work are Google Pay & Wireless Android Auto (go figure!!!) - although wired Android Auto connects & stays connected which is a big improvement.
But anyway, I'm sure my adventure into getting into a deep and meaningful relationship with the hidden parts of my phone are just starting once more!

Well now welcome to XDA! Officially.
And enjoy your stay
So I was looking into a new phone I could buy new, had a headphone jack and telephoto lens, and maybe stereo speakers, and came across this phone.
I noticed that the Note 9 used to have lineage os support up until 17.1, and was wondering if there was any specific reason support was dropped? Is it hard to port 18.1 and 19.1 versions of LineageOS to the Note 9?
Some other questions I had about ROM'ing the note 9:
- Does performance degrade significantly when on ROMs?
- How is battery life?
- How's the camera, and is there a gcam apk that can use all the lenses?
- what features would I lose if ROM'd the device, and is their any ways to reinstall them or get mods (like thru magisk) to get them back?
- did the pen even work when it had LineageOS support? Is there apps/mods that can be installed to make it work?
For context, I'm coming from a Pixel 3a, and cross shopping with these:
- an A72 (4g), still 3 yrs of OEM software support
- Moto Edge 2020, LineageOS support, Plastic back and no IP rating to ruin so I don't feel bad about replacing the battery
- S10/+/5G, very good phone, just wouldn't feel to confident in replacing the battery
Any advice on how living with any of these phones ROM'd nowadays would be greatly appreciated.
Hi, @JayAbbhi,
I am currently using a N9 that has not be rooted, but has been heavily debloated via adb. I prefer to use it over a N20U.
I think LineageOS support for the N9 has ended, but you can ask in the LineageOS threads on the forum.
APNMirror has updated LineageOS application files for applications, such as Phone, etc...
I tried the LineageOS phone, contacts and messages apps on N9 and N20U.
GIF images cause the messaging app to crash on both phones.
Couldn't access one section of the phone (Version 23, Android 10) on the N9.
I don't access the internet (surf, chat, etc...), and mainly use FOSS apps with NetGuard.
N9 is a Beast!
edit: APKMirror, not APNMirror site...
