Most car models produced don’t come with wireless Android Auto functionality. So what do you do if you’ve got an older model, or a new one that doesn’t come with wireless connection built in? This wireless dongle running perfect on my 19' E350.

For sure it's true, before I considered Ottocast which supports wireless AA/ CarPlay, I choose this cause it added ChromeCast that allowing project Videos to Car. It's cool! right?

The screen mirroring feature - are you sure it's "Chromecast" and not "MiraCast"?
I ask because android phones such as Samsung phones support "Miracast", but Google Pixel phones can NOT do "Miracast" - they can only do Chromecast.
That's cool! this means I can cast TV from phone to car display. So how can I do it? connect via lightning cable or Bluthooth?

Your car needs to support Android Auto via a "Wired" connection, then it looks like this gizmo will allow you to connect your phone to your car using "wireless" Android auto. And it looks like it will also allow your car's screen to mirror your phone's display.

I have a question, when it is mirroring the display on your phone, does the car touch screen allow you to interact with your android phone?
Meaning, if your phone is displaying your home screen, and your car's display is also displaying your home screen (via the screen mirror feature), can you tap on an app icon on your cars display (not your phone's display) and have the app launch on your phone, or does the touch-screen on your car display do nothing when in "mirror" mode ?
As you can see on the screen, there're 2 entrances, one is "mirror" and one is "Cast"
Mirror is the entrance that allows you mirror your phone screen to car display, this static, that only show your phone screen on car display.
Cast is that you can project TVs, like YouTube or any streaming media from phone to car display, and you can also tap on icons on cars display to speed or back to home screen.
Does it support all Android apps in cast mode?

The cast mode may supports all video streaming apps, like YouTube, TVs, etc.
If you would like install all Google play stores apps to your car, the aacarplay pro box should be the right one for you! I don't need that much apps so I pickup the standard one, cuz aacarplay pro costs $100 more.
Hi. does wireless android auto work stable? I am looking for another one called AI Box from aacarplay, no limit to down apps.
Can someone test this for me...
Does "wireless" android auto work while the "hotspot" feature is turned on your phone?
Same question!
For the first time setup, keep Bluetooth and phone's hotspot on, after connecting with Android Auto, I can see the the hotspot is off, paired with Bluetooth.
It still using your phone's date while connecting android auto, just keep your Bluetooth on, it will be automatically connected. No need to open phone's hotspot.

I have an LG TV model 42LE5500. Chromecast works great except that it doesn't switch inputs or turn on the TV!
I originally set it up on the HDMI4 port. It did not switch inputs so I started googling and found Simplink. For some reason my TV does not have Simplink under the Options but it does have a button on the remote. When clicking on the button none of my other devices show up (everything is grayed out). I turned the Simplink off and back on - nothing.
I did a factory reset on the Chromecast which didn't help. I tried plugging it in to all 4 other HDMI ports which didn't help. I did other things suggested on the internet like "turn off simplin, turn it back on, unplug both devices, plug them back in, turn on TV" etc etc.. didn't work.
I tried talking to LG Chat support - that was a joke.
I am running out of ideas.. anybody got anything?
Simplink is how LG controls it's ARC and CEC through HDMI on my TV. I had a simplink settings options on my input selector screen, and when I hit the home button I have a simplink menu option along the bottom bar of apps. I have an LM4700.
I have the same problem but with another LG TV, I read through the LG support website and I read through the manual and I'm going to quote this,
"SIMPLINK allows you to control and play other AV devices connected with HDMI cable without additional
cables and settings. This TV may work with devices with HDMI-CEC support, but only devices
with the logo are fully supported."
So basically if Chromecast gets support for SIMPLINK, we will be able to use the feature, if not then no

Chromecast works to turn on my LG TV with Simplink. Go to the input screen on your TV highlight the HDMI your Chromecast is on, then select Simpling icon on the bottom row, of the TV screen, not the remote. Note: Chromecast must be powered up to an outside power source, not to the USB on the TV, to be able to power on your TV.

I just got my Chromecast and hooked it up today.
I'm having the same issue with my LG 3D TV except Chromecast does turns on my TV but it does not switch the input. I know the Simple Link works because when I turn on my LG Blu-ray player it turns the TV on and switches to the correct input.

I'm having the exact same problem. Chromecast will turn on the TV but not switch the input. I have LG's 55LS4500-UD and already tried performing a manual firmware upgrade that's release notes mentioned fixes to Simplink but that didn't solve the problem either.
When I got the chromecast and used it for a few weeks I didn't have this problem except if the tv was already turned on. The tv would switch on and change to appropriate HDMI input.
But suddenly the HDMI switch stopped working. The TV still turns on but HDMI switch doesn't work. On the chromecast FAQ section Google does mention it supports Simplink. Not sure what changed.
Just bought my chromecast. Got the last one at best buy
But I'm having issues with simplink.....I can't even set the chromecast up for it. I go into the input menu, highlight HDMI1 (which is where it's in) and press the red button for simplink. It is indeed turned on, but all of the options below the on off option are greyed out. I've never used simplink before so any help would be very appreciated. I'd love to get this working seamlessly. Input switching is not an issue...we did away with our Roku.

I've been wanting to use the navigation screen for GTR like gauges for a while, I've seen some projects try to use gauges using a carputer and even a Raspberry Pi, which looked really promising.
I have Nexus 5 Android phone and use several apps with a bluetooth ODB adaptor.
But first I started by using a console phone mount from proclip, and a wedge to get the right angle.
I've been using the Nexus wireless Qi charger at home and it has magnets so I can just drop the phone on it and it holds very firmly and charges it.
I decide to use this in the car, I love dropping the phone down and having it charging and being able to access the screen easily. I love the look too, not some bulky phone holder. I LOVE wireless charging, it's one of the main reasons I love the Nexus.
I had a reverse camera installed a while ago by SonicMS, they used a system similar to the one sold by Alekshop:
http://alekshop.com/products/multimedia_interface_kit_with_rear_camera_for_2009_bmws
This interface has aux inputs that weren't wired by SonicMS so I opened it up and used a spare set of RCA cables and ran them into my glove box.
I purchased a RCA to HDMI converter from Amazon, and my initial plan was to get a MHL to HDMI adaptor for the phone and a iPad to HDMI adaptor for my iPad.
But THEN... I thought, it would be so awesome to keep everything wireless, and hook up a Chromecast, so that's what I did
I setup the Tasker app from the Google Play store to do a bunch of things when it connects to the bluetooth in my M3 (tasker is another reason I love the Nexus, can't do this stuff with apple devices).
First Tasker starts the Internet sharing hotspot, and I used a plugin called Autocast to automatically cast my screen to the Chromecast, then does a bunch of other things (sets screen to not turn off, brightness all the way up, launch google maps, etc.).
The Chromecast automatically connects to the Nexus hotspot once it becomes available.
So now all I do is drop the phone on my wireless charger, and everything connects automatically, the only extra step I have to do is hold down the Menu button in my car to switch to the aux input.
Now I can easily watch Netflix, or Hulu or any app from my phone on the Nav screen, it's so awesome! It's not the best resolution, but for me it's fine.
Here are a few pics with a the Torque app:
Nice job!! Definitely something I might've pursued in my previous life when I lived in your area.
Also thanks for mentioning AutoCast, I'm very into Tasker and wasn't aware of it - actually never thought of Tasker-izing my Chromecast until now. Hmm...

I have my micro usb connected to usb port 2 for the android auto. Make sure the parking brake is set the first time you set up android auto. Might also have to have usb debugging turned on. Only works right now with certain phones, and needs lollipop 5.0 or better. You probably already knew that. If you haven't done the firmware update for the 4100, do that first.
Worked the first time with my Nexus 6.

Yes my parking brake is on. I have the Galaxy S6 which is not in the supported list but it does have Android 5.0 and I was able to download Android Auto App from Google play... I also attempted to do it with my old Galaxy S4 but it doesn't have Android 5.0 so cant download Android Auto... and to top that for MirrorLink I guess I need this Samsung Drive Link App which is not compatible with either phone!
its frustrating... Samsung is not keeping up with the Car technology... for the most part on Samsung's end I keep hearing it mostly works with the Galaxy S3 and some people have it working half ass on the Galaxy S5.

Here is the Amazon link for the Microbpass that is needed for the 4100,
http://www.amazon.com/MicroBypass-Parking-Automatic-Interface-AVH-4100NEX/dp/B00VKQ6ECQ/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429570863&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=micro+bypass+4100
Thanks
The bypasses are relatively easy to make with a relay as well. The reason you can't just ground it out is they went above and beyond to make sure it is only active when the break is on. So, you have to create a delay in the bypass. Attach the amp on wire to the relay, the ground and the emergency break, and you're good to go. It is cheaper and quicker, as any decent electronic store will have the relay. Mine was $4 from RadioShack (RIP). This diagram shows it...

You do not need a bypass! I just bought the 6100-nex. Turn off radio to standby mode. Hold finger 1/2" up from bottom and 1/2" in from left side of screen for like 30-60 seconds. There are YouTube vids on it. Works on all nex radios. Also only the Samsung MHL/HDMI 2.0 adapter will work. NOT the pioneer one.

-Turn on your phone's WiFi hotspot
-Connect a computer to it
-Set up your chromecast to use your phones hot spot as the network
-Plug your chromecast into your radio
Now whenever you want to use your Chromecast you just have to turn on the hotspot feature on your phone. The Chromecast will connect to the hotspot and you can cast to it just like it was on your home (or any other) network.
Thanks!
Stupid question... This vs mirroring or like the unchained app.... no cables?? Not trying to be an ass about to pull the trigger on the appradio4 or 4100-nex so trying to see all the possibilities.. Thanks

This might be a stupid question, but if you set your Chromecast up to stream to your AVH-4100NEX over your phone's WiFi hotspot and then bring it back into your house to plug into your TV will it automatically recognize your home WiFi network or do you have to set it up again? I haven't gone through the initial setup process with my Chromecast for a while so I don't remember if it has memory for prior network setups. Not that I'll use the Chromecast in my car all that much, but they are cheap enough to justify buying two units if it becomes a hassle to reconfigure the Chromecast every time you transfer it between your home and car.

I will be very surprised indeed if these phones support video out through usb c / MHL
Note 8 Pro didn't and there's been no announcement that there's anything different in this range (discussed briefly in this thread, with links to more detailed discussion https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://xiaomi.eu/community/threads/redmi-note-8-pro-to-hdmi.53266/%23:~:text%3DIt%2520seems%2520that%2520the%2520redmi,MHL%2520neither%2520the%2520SlimPort%2520standards.&ved=2ahUKEwiQxsW1z8XqAhVIMewKHalODKEQFjABegQIDBAG&usg=AOvVaw237DjQg8DPjsOAQ11S9sHM&cshid=1594485066088)

I'd guess it's that these are (when we get down to it) budget devices - all the features you want, but stripped of those you don't (such as usb 3, which might support MHL, assuming I've understood that correctly)
Fwiw I find screen mirroring through Chromecast fairly useful, and loads less hassle than a cabled solution for occasional mirroring. For a longer term solution though a cable connection would likely be more stable, but I guess that's probably a niche use case, for which the redmi note series is probably not the best choice
@thesoupthief I considered Chromecast option, and It would be a good idea if it didn't require a wireless internet connection, I need something to connect phone directly to a basic TV, without router as intermediate

This is not an ideal solution, but it works (with a bit of messing about). Instead of using a router based network to act as the intermediary for a Chromecast you can use another device's WiFi hotspot
We stayed somewhere for a few days last week where there was no wired internet. I had a Chromecast (I took it along expecting there would be WiFi) - my RN8 and another phone
I set up a wireless hotspot on the other phone and used my RN8 to connect the Chromecast & TV to that wireless network
I was then able to cast stored content from my RN8 to the TV without any massive data usage on the other phone
I've never used a Miracast dongle but that might be the simplest option - they're dirt cheap (€7 or so on eBay - about the same price as an HDMI cable) and don't require any external network. Not sure how reliable they are, but I think they're still supported in MIUI - can anyone comment?
Curiosity got the better of me - I just ordered a Miracast dongle. I'll report back when it arrives (it's likely on a slow boat from China, so it won't be here for a while yet)

At first I want to post what's the given Information from Google and then ask afterwards, what I don’t get here.
Requirements
(pls click here to get to the original Source):
A compatible Android phone with an active data plan, 5 GHz Wi-Fi support, and the latest version of the Android Auto app. Wireless projection is compatible with these Android versions:
Any phone with Android 11.0
A Google or Samsung phone with Android 10.0
A Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, or Note 8, with Android 9.0
A compatible car or stereo. Find out if your car or stereo is compatible with Android Auto .
Tips:
To find out if your phone has 5 GHz Wi-Fi support, contact your manufacturer.
In the EU, to use 5 GHz Wi-Fi in the car, your smartphone must comply with additional regulatory requirements. On Google smartphones, Pixel 3 and newer models comply with this requirement.
To find out if your specific car model is compatible with wireless Android Auto, contact your car manufacturer.
=> What I have:
- Mi 8 with LOS 18.1 / GApps Pico installed
- HU with 5 GHz WiFi and Bluetooth
- AA via USB works flawlessly
- CarPlay via USB and Wireless works flawlessly
- Android Auto V. 7.1.614584-release
- Google Play Services 21.48.15
=> What I want: <=
- working AA WIRELESS
Recommend installation process from Google:
Step 1. Prepare your phone & car
Make sure your phone meets the minimum requirements.
Confirm that your car is compatible with Android Auto Wireless . If you're not sure, contact your local car dealer.
Ensure your phone has a strong and fast cellular data connection.
Step 2. Connect your phone
Important: The first time you connect your phone to the car, you’re required to pair your phone and car via Bluetooth. For best results, keep Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Location Services turned on during setup. Make sure your car is in park (P) and allow time to set up Android Auto before you start your drive.
Plug a USB cable into your vehicle’s USB port and plug the other end of the cable into your Android phone.
Your phone might ask you to download the Android Auto app or update to the newest version of the app.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete setup.
Step 3. Start Android Auto
Your wireless connection might take a few seconds to start. You might need to tap Android Auto

on your car display.
Step 4. Disconnect your phone (from wireless projection)
If you want to stop using Android Auto wirelessly, on your phone notifications screen, tap Exit driving mode.
Drive safely. Pay attention to the road and driving conditions, and always obey applicable laws.
Now my questions:
1.Why does that f***Ing sh*t* installation procedure not work, even if I stick to everything? Any ideas?
2. Can anybody explain me what has (technically) to happen between the AA app on the smartphone and the head unit of my car, so that I can try to force both devices to do what is intended?
3. Why to hell does the AA wireless implementation need a USB cable connection (you see this is somehow connected with question 2)?
4. Are there any special settings (not the standard toggles) in the AA App (or in the AA developer options or the developer options of LOS) which I should (or possibly shouldn't!) have done to make it work?
It would be great, if somebody could help me to unterstand the setup process and my problem in this case.
1) You've provided no detail on what happens/where it fails.
3) It doesn't necessarily. Some BMW models support wireless AA, but not wired. But units which support both typically require you to connect via USB first, so the HU and phone can trade information (such as BT addresses, WiFi SSID, etc.).
What HU do you have? Does it specifically say it supports wireless AA? Supporting WiFi alone is not sufficient.

1. Because there is nothing special to provide - it fails when it comes to the connection with the head unit. A Bluetooth connection is established to use the phone function, but there is no connection to use AA. It does not appear on the display. Wifi does not connect. If I try to connect manually to the head unit Wifi I fail because I don't know the WPA2 Password (consisting of 8 letters).
3. Thank you for that Information. I just wondered why the Google description seems to make that USB-Connection mandatory. Since my head unit supports both (wired + wireless, I should probably try that again with USB plugged in the whole time). Is it important to implement the wireless connection within the very first connection with the head unit (should I reset everything?) or dosn't it play any role and can be done at any time later after a succesful first USB-Connection?
