I have my micro usb connected to usb port 2 for the android auto. Make sure the parking brake is set the first time you set up android auto. Might also have to have usb debugging turned on. Only works right now with certain phones, and needs lollipop 5.0 or better. You probably already knew that. If you haven't done the firmware update for the 4100, do that first.
Worked the first time with my Nexus 6.

Yes my parking brake is on. I have the Galaxy S6 which is not in the supported list but it does have Android 5.0 and I was able to download Android Auto App from Google play... I also attempted to do it with my old Galaxy S4 but it doesn't have Android 5.0 so cant download Android Auto... and to top that for MirrorLink I guess I need this Samsung Drive Link App which is not compatible with either phone!
its frustrating... Samsung is not keeping up with the Car technology... for the most part on Samsung's end I keep hearing it mostly works with the Galaxy S3 and some people have it working half ass on the Galaxy S5.

Here is the Amazon link for the Microbpass that is needed for the 4100,
http://www.amazon.com/MicroBypass-Parking-Automatic-Interface-AVH-4100NEX/dp/B00VKQ6ECQ/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1429570863&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=micro+bypass+4100
Thanks
The bypasses are relatively easy to make with a relay as well. The reason you can't just ground it out is they went above and beyond to make sure it is only active when the break is on. So, you have to create a delay in the bypass. Attach the amp on wire to the relay, the ground and the emergency break, and you're good to go. It is cheaper and quicker, as any decent electronic store will have the relay. Mine was $4 from RadioShack (RIP). This diagram shows it...

You do not need a bypass! I just bought the 6100-nex. Turn off radio to standby mode. Hold finger 1/2" up from bottom and 1/2" in from left side of screen for like 30-60 seconds. There are YouTube vids on it. Works on all nex radios. Also only the Samsung MHL/HDMI 2.0 adapter will work. NOT the pioneer one.

The AVH NEX's do require a bypass.
The AVIC NEX's don't require a bypass.
Nice! I'm hoping to pick up am android auto head unit soon. Once those pioneer ones come down in price that is.

How do you get the chromecast set up to work outside your home network?

-Turn on your phone's WiFi hotspot
-Connect a computer to it
-Set up your chromecast to use your phones hot spot as the network
-Plug your chromecast into your radio
Now whenever you want to use your Chromecast you just have to turn on the hotspot feature on your phone. The Chromecast will connect to the hotspot and you can cast to it just like it was on your home (or any other) network.
Thanks!
Stupid question... This vs mirroring or like the unchained app.... no cables?? Not trying to be an ass about to pull the trigger on the appradio4 or 4100-nex so trying to see all the possibilities.. Thanks

Thank you! Just got the 6 edge plus last week which lacks any form of video out via hdmi/mhl which was unfortunate but this would resolve that issue! Going to try this asap
Got mine all hooked up yesterday. Seems to be working good. Kind of takes a bit of time getting all synched up, but works good when going.

This might be a stupid question, but if you set your Chromecast up to stream to your AVH-4100NEX over your phone's WiFi hotspot and then bring it back into your house to plug into your TV will it automatically recognize your home WiFi network or do you have to set it up again? I haven't gone through the initial setup process with my Chromecast for a while so I don't remember if it has memory for prior network setups. Not that I'll use the Chromecast in my car all that much, but they are cheap enough to justify buying two units if it becomes a hassle to reconfigure the Chromecast every time you transfer it between your home and car.

I don't think so. As far as I know, the Chromecast will only look for the network it was set up on. ( sorry for the late response.)

Use your PC's internet connection on your phone. No more pain of wasting your precious mobile data!
you need to have a PC with working internet connection and a rooted android device.
Making it happen:
1)Connect your Android to your desktop/laptop via USB cable (dont forget to turn on USB debugging )
2)Download, extract the attachment and Open android tool application file present in the extracted folder

3)click “Connect”. this will install the latest android package and the dependencies (busybox and redsocks) and SuperUser will ask you to allow “Usb tunnel”
make sure you allow it.
now you phone has an internet connection and you can use it just by minimising the USB Tunnel app...
to stop the service, just click on disconnect on your pc (android tool app) or stop service on USB Tunnel in your phone..
play store doesn't work
actually all google apps do not work

Not all PC's have that ability. Doubly so if your PC uses Wifi to connect to the internet since most Wifi cards can only either connect or be connected to and not both at once . Or like in my case where my PC's wifi card severely sucks and is barely usable to connect to the internet to begin with...I use my old Defy as my PC's Wifi now because my internal card is that bad (plus I can use a really long usb cord and get the phone closer to the router )
Defy runs CM10.1 -- its faster and more stable than ours with much better battery life (double cool). F Popeye's Chicken, Quarx is the shiznit....and Blechd0se and Maniac103 and Epsylon3...I'm sure there's more, but those are the main Defy devs I was exposed to.
/Defy has 3+ years of development behind it on a platform our devs would rather be working on (TI OMAP), that's why its better . I just had to clarify that so no one thinks I'm downing our devs. A few months on a new platform doesn't compete with a few years on a known platform.
//If anyone needs a cheap replacement phone, buy a Motorola Defy or Bravo. They're both built well and have a great dev supporting them, Quarx.

Following the link from within the app I saw this comes from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1371345
The download in this thread corresponds to version 3.3; it is up to version 3.7 now. I tried v. 3.7 and it also works. To make sure i disabled WiFi and wireless data. There is a hack for Google apps, I haven't tried it.
Hey Thanks for the app mate but I couldn't make it work it only connects when I choose USB Tethering I'm on Custom 4.4 Rom Rooted / Allowed Superuser permission it only shows upload spped but not download speed and there's no browsing ...... I'm on windows 8 and have a dial able broadband connection .. Also tried sharing the connection but no luck. please help.
I have an LG TV model 42LE5500. Chromecast works great except that it doesn't switch inputs or turn on the TV!
I originally set it up on the HDMI4 port. It did not switch inputs so I started googling and found Simplink. For some reason my TV does not have Simplink under the Options but it does have a button on the remote. When clicking on the button none of my other devices show up (everything is grayed out). I turned the Simplink off and back on - nothing.
I did a factory reset on the Chromecast which didn't help. I tried plugging it in to all 4 other HDMI ports which didn't help. I did other things suggested on the internet like "turn off simplin, turn it back on, unplug both devices, plug them back in, turn on TV" etc etc.. didn't work.
I tried talking to LG Chat support - that was a joke.
I am running out of ideas.. anybody got anything?
Simplink is how LG controls it's ARC and CEC through HDMI on my TV. I had a simplink settings options on my input selector screen, and when I hit the home button I have a simplink menu option along the bottom bar of apps. I have an LM4700.
I have the same problem but with another LG TV, I read through the LG support website and I read through the manual and I'm going to quote this,
"SIMPLINK allows you to control and play other AV devices connected with HDMI cable without additional
cables and settings. This TV may work with devices with HDMI-CEC support, but only devices
with the logo are fully supported."
So basically if Chromecast gets support for SIMPLINK, we will be able to use the feature, if not then no

Chromecast works to turn on my LG TV with Simplink. Go to the input screen on your TV highlight the HDMI your Chromecast is on, then select Simpling icon on the bottom row, of the TV screen, not the remote. Note: Chromecast must be powered up to an outside power source, not to the USB on the TV, to be able to power on your TV.
Same Issue

I'm having the same issue with my LG 3D TV except Chromecast does turns on my TV but it does not switch the input. I know the Simple Link works because when I turn on my LG Blu-ray player it turns the TV on and switches to the correct input.

I'm having the exact same problem. Chromecast will turn on the TV but not switch the input. I have LG's 55LS4500-UD and already tried performing a manual firmware upgrade that's release notes mentioned fixes to Simplink but that didn't solve the problem either.
When I got the chromecast and used it for a few weeks I didn't have this problem except if the tv was already turned on. The tv would switch on and change to appropriate HDMI input.
But suddenly the HDMI switch stopped working. The TV still turns on but HDMI switch doesn't work. On the chromecast FAQ section Google does mention it supports Simplink. Not sure what changed.
Just bought my chromecast. Got the last one at best buy
But I'm having issues with simplink.....I can't even set the chromecast up for it. I go into the input menu, highlight HDMI1 (which is where it's in) and press the red button for simplink. It is indeed turned on, but all of the options below the on off option are greyed out. I've never used simplink before so any help would be very appreciated. I'd love to get this working seamlessly. Input switching is not an issue...we did away with our Roku.

I don't know how your trying to stream these medias but just about all of the Media streaming options out there do NOT send your content out to be re-downloaded to the CCast.
youu say that but ive looked at data usage and i noticed 200mb lost for just streaming about 10 minutes of a movie...

RealPlayer Cloud will if the codecs or container aren't supported. Should stay local otherwise.
OP, wakaday, try LocalCast from the Play Store to be sure that you have supported content. I think that will tell you.

Chromecast will generally not run if it can't access the external Internet, but local streaming solutions should not consume any data. Some apps may load up a web UI from an outside server which should be a relatively small amount of data.
Which apps were you using to try and stream local video?
The combination of a UPnP server (I'm using Serviio on Win7) and BubbleUPnP works well for me.

As the others have said, local casting should not go out to the Internet and come back.
Assuming you meant megabytes, 200 MB in 10 minutes equates to roughly 2.66 Mbps bitrate, which seems to be a reasonable rate for a file.
Will need to know the exact details of your test (apps, media location, etc) to further theorize what happened.

Ah balls. Loving my chromecast in my man cave but thought i would get another one to see if I could hook it into the wifes car.
She has a pioneer headunit with a large screen and HDMI in.
mmm i thought, lets get a micro router and create a local wifi network in the car but with no actual internet connection, connect the chromecast and my phone to this and voila play a load of movies stored on my phone, straight to the chromecast.
Bloody google. They require the chromecast to have an actual internet connection to allow anything to play.
I have tried localcast, EZcast but non of them will throw directly to the CC without a full internet connection.
Any idea which dongles will. I know an apple tv will work but want an android solution really.
Thanks in advance

It is but would rather have it wirelessly. Somebody my hack it down the line i'm sure.
Best option is(If you have a mobile Data account and who doesn't these days...) is add one of those Wireless Hotspot pucks (MiFi) to your account and use that in the car (or Hotels or anywhere for that matter!)
Then the CCast can connect to the NET via the Hotspot and so can any device you want to use.
The CCast doesn't need a lot of data to load the players and provided you have your content synced or stored to your mobile device it won't use up your mobile data to stream.
Miracast is wireless. It just requires a Miracast receiver device to be plugged into the HDMI.

Hi all!
I looked on the forums here and couldn't find anything about it... have you seen this CarPlay AI Box thing?
Seems like similar hardware as the Android headunits but on a dongle and then you connect it through USB and it streams via CarPlay. I think it's interesting for folks like me with a traditional headunit with Android Auto/CarPlay to have full access to Android.
Does anyone knows about it? I guess we could have the same options as the headunits such as custom firmwares or maybe figuring out what software does that CarPlay integration and use it from an Android phone - getting full Android access...

Expect it to be unfinished, unreliable, 'buggy as' and unsupported.
I have been looking at this as well. I'm going to order one as soon as my wife will let me probably a month or two from now.
To my knowledge nobody else seems to be utilizing car play as a generic display output with touch screen support.
I can't wait to get a hold of one of these and dump the firmware, if we can replicate how they interface, perhaps we can replicate it In software.
Imagine Apple car play as a primary display, as an installable magisk module.
That would solve the issues of Android crippling secondary displays for DRM. It would also hola many car units to be repurposed closer to their users need. But also help to minimize e-waste and unnecessary wasteful economic activity. Too much hardware goes to landfills because of lack of standardized interfaces for DIY upgrades.

That's what got me intrigued, how they manage to output to CarPlay! If it's purely software based then it might be ported.
I will try to get one of those to play around!
I have a idea for this little box. If I get or I figured out how to mimic ios for convince car head unit . I will install or creat mode for any android phone we had same configuration in our car low price.
Hope to see further developments of this Carplay AI
It solve the android HU poor sound quality and yet have fantastic experience of Android
Now this only runs on Android 7.
I think i find the solution which I guess this ai box using same method. Here is the think. Install android on raspberry pi and using usb c power port for triger car android auto system and run screen2auto app and viola here is own android tablet on your car android auto system.
did anyone figure out how to install a custom firmware on this Android Box. I am looking to connect a Bluetooth OBD dongle to this, but don't think the stock firmware allows anything other than Phone connection via Bluetooth.
Hi, could you share the firmware?
I try to install on Raspberry

Hi I have this version of AI box
https://www.alibaba.com/product-det...a2756.order-detail-ta-ta-b.0.0.5abb2fc2wCcoEN
There is also rebranded version from Joyeauto with 4GB RAM, generally it is the same product:
https://www.joyeauto.com/mmb-multim...-for-the-cars-with-oem-factory-apple-carplay/
Joyeauto provides also download section for this device, where is a new ROM:
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/oyjsw7s4q6dmvrm/AADy_yP8FC3JqnIrgjZrK-Gea?dl=0
Is there anybody who can make custom rooted firmware?
Btw. It can be plugged to any Android phone/ tablet via Carlinkit Wried CarPlay Smart Link Dongle for Android https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33038683679.html
It works like in the car, it is good for playing with and installing in home.
Bluetooth is blocked only for phone connection. I plugged cheap BT dongle to the USB port of the AI box and now I can connect anything including of OBD2.
What is annoying is autohiding on-screen navigation panel. It would be better make the always visible navigation bar and all apks opening resized in the rest of the screen.
Generally it is pretty interesting and good working device.

I tried 3 different what I found at home and all work fine. No need to install any software or driver. These work: Gembird BTD-MINI5, Trust Bluetooth USB 4.0 Adapter , ASUS USB-BT400 . But I think you can try any.
One more thing: you need to access full settings to pair Bluetooth, I installed ADW launcher and there is access to all settings.
ADW Launcher 2 – Apps on Google Play
ADW Launcher 2, beyond tweaking your android desktop
play.google.com
ADW launcher would be fine set like default one. But they packed the factory launcher also with phone application, so you need to start both launchers. Then the Home button is launching factory launcher so it is better to use only the factory one. This would be solved by custom rom.

just confirming you been able to connect a external devise (not your phone or a speaker/audio device) via Bluetooth? Where did you go in system setting to search for the Bluetooth devices?

Hi, I connected OBD2, also I tried to connect phone to this dongle, it works only for sound playing from the phone. Phone must be connected to the native BT for dialing and calling. You can use both BTs, native and dongle same time. Full android setting console is accessible when you run ADW launcher - there is a Setting icon among apks. Good luck with dongles.
Just received the BT dongle ($10 cheap ones). And it works perfectly fine!
thanks for all the help!
hopefully someone can make a customFirmware for this now. Also noticed the device already got Root access.

Most car models produced don’t come with wireless Android Auto functionality. So what do you do if you’ve got an older model, or a new one that doesn’t come with wireless connection built in? This wireless dongle running perfect on my 19' E350.

For sure it's true, before I considered Ottocast which supports wireless AA/ CarPlay, I choose this cause it added ChromeCast that allowing project Videos to Car. It's cool! right?

The screen mirroring feature - are you sure it's "Chromecast" and not "MiraCast"?
I ask because android phones such as Samsung phones support "Miracast", but Google Pixel phones can NOT do "Miracast" - they can only do Chromecast.
That's cool! this means I can cast TV from phone to car display. So how can I do it? connect via lightning cable or Bluthooth?

Your car needs to support Android Auto via a "Wired" connection, then it looks like this gizmo will allow you to connect your phone to your car using "wireless" Android auto. And it looks like it will also allow your car's screen to mirror your phone's display.

I have a question, when it is mirroring the display on your phone, does the car touch screen allow you to interact with your android phone?
Meaning, if your phone is displaying your home screen, and your car's display is also displaying your home screen (via the screen mirror feature), can you tap on an app icon on your cars display (not your phone's display) and have the app launch on your phone, or does the touch-screen on your car display do nothing when in "mirror" mode ?
As you can see on the screen, there're 2 entrances, one is "mirror" and one is "Cast"
Mirror is the entrance that allows you mirror your phone screen to car display, this static, that only show your phone screen on car display.
Cast is that you can project TVs, like YouTube or any streaming media from phone to car display, and you can also tap on icons on cars display to speed or back to home screen.
Does it support all Android apps in cast mode?

The cast mode may supports all video streaming apps, like YouTube, TVs, etc.
If you would like install all Google play stores apps to your car, the aacarplay pro box should be the right one for you! I don't need that much apps so I pickup the standard one, cuz aacarplay pro costs $100 more.
Hi. does wireless android auto work stable? I am looking for another one called AI Box from aacarplay, no limit to down apps.
Can someone test this for me...
Does "wireless" android auto work while the "hotspot" feature is turned on your phone?
Same question!
For the first time setup, keep Bluetooth and phone's hotspot on, after connecting with Android Auto, I can see the the hotspot is off, paired with Bluetooth.
It still using your phone's date while connecting android auto, just keep your Bluetooth on, it will be automatically connected. No need to open phone's hotspot.
