I have an LG TV model 42LE5500. Chromecast works great except that it doesn't switch inputs or turn on the TV!
I originally set it up on the HDMI4 port. It did not switch inputs so I started googling and found Simplink. For some reason my TV does not have Simplink under the Options but it does have a button on the remote. When clicking on the button none of my other devices show up (everything is grayed out). I turned the Simplink off and back on - nothing.
I did a factory reset on the Chromecast which didn't help. I tried plugging it in to all 4 other HDMI ports which didn't help. I did other things suggested on the internet like "turn off simplin, turn it back on, unplug both devices, plug them back in, turn on TV" etc etc.. didn't work.
I tried talking to LG Chat support - that was a joke.
I am running out of ideas.. anybody got anything?
Simplink is how LG controls it's ARC and CEC through HDMI on my TV. I had a simplink settings options on my input selector screen, and when I hit the home button I have a simplink menu option along the bottom bar of apps. I have an LM4700.
I have the same problem but with another LG TV, I read through the LG support website and I read through the manual and I'm going to quote this,
"SIMPLINK allows you to control and play other AV devices connected with HDMI cable without additional
cables and settings. This TV may work with devices with HDMI-CEC support, but only devices
with the logo are fully supported."
So basically if Chromecast gets support for SIMPLINK, we will be able to use the feature, if not then no

Chromecast works to turn on my LG TV with Simplink. Go to the input screen on your TV highlight the HDMI your Chromecast is on, then select Simpling icon on the bottom row, of the TV screen, not the remote. Note: Chromecast must be powered up to an outside power source, not to the USB on the TV, to be able to power on your TV.

I just got my Chromecast and hooked it up today.
I'm having the same issue with my LG 3D TV except Chromecast does turns on my TV but it does not switch the input. I know the Simple Link works because when I turn on my LG Blu-ray player it turns the TV on and switches to the correct input.

I'm having the exact same problem. Chromecast will turn on the TV but not switch the input. I have LG's 55LS4500-UD and already tried performing a manual firmware upgrade that's release notes mentioned fixes to Simplink but that didn't solve the problem either.
When I got the chromecast and used it for a few weeks I didn't have this problem except if the tv was already turned on. The tv would switch on and change to appropriate HDMI input.
But suddenly the HDMI switch stopped working. The TV still turns on but HDMI switch doesn't work. On the chromecast FAQ section Google does mention it supports Simplink. Not sure what changed.
Just bought my chromecast. Got the last one at best buy
But I'm having issues with simplink.....I can't even set the chromecast up for it. I go into the input menu, highlight HDMI1 (which is where it's in) and press the red button for simplink. It is indeed turned on, but all of the options below the on off option are greyed out. I've never used simplink before so any help would be very appreciated. I'd love to get this working seamlessly. Input switching is not an issue...we did away with our Roku.

Ok guys, I need some help. I have a brand new 2013 LG LA6200 Smart TV. HDMI-CEC (SIMPLINK) on the LG is turned on and so is SIMPLINK Auto Power is set to on. I have the Chromecast dongle powered from the USB power supply rather than the TV USB port. Here is the problem. When the TV is off and I select Chromecast Google Play movie to be cast, I thought Chromecast was supposed to turn ON the TV and flip to the right input and start playing. However the TV never turns on. It is just sitting there turned off. However if I manually turn it on, the correct input is selected and the movie is streaming. So... how does Chromecast is supposed to automatically turn the TV on?? Cause in my setup it ain't happening. Any help will be greatly appreciated. BTW, is there a Google Chromecast place to post questions like that? Thanks.

You're not the only one. I have a 2013 LG TV (LN5700) and auto power does not work. Same setup as you-- Inputs are correctly switched but the darn display won't turn on.
I'm not sure whether the problem is with the Chromecast itself or the display as I don't have any other HDMI-CEC devices to test with.
I have an LG LM4700, and my AVR with CEC control never turned on/off my tv, but my tv would turn my AVR on/off.
I read on a forum post somewhere (take with a grain of salt) that LG didn't fully implement the full HDMI-CEC spec with SIMPLINK.

I also have an LG BP530 a Blu-Ray player which also has Simplink (HDMI-CEC). With both the TV and the Blu-Ray player OFF, pushing the front play button of the Blu-Ray player, turns the blu-player ON, turns the TV ON, switches to the right input and plays the DVD. In other words the Simplink (HDMI-CEC) protocol as implemented by LG for all their LG devices WORKS.
I'm thinking that HDMI-CEC may be a "standard" but every OEM has only tested their implementation with their own stuff. That is why each OEM uses a different name (Anynet+, bravia link/sync, simplink, Ratga link, etc...) instead of HDMI-CEC. I bet if you put the HDMI signal through a scope and try to isolate the control signals you will find that from each OEM they are just a tad different (maybe a bit longer pulse..).
Google could fix this in firmware of course but they will have to test for each brand individually and in the end possibly they will have to have an option to select the type of TV the user has for the differences in HDMI-CEC implementations. Either that or each OEM will have to update their sets to more correctly adhere to the standard.
This is why I never put much faith in HDMI CEC when I use to install home theaters and media rooms. It always led to inconsistent operation with some devices working and others not. I would always turn that feature off and program a universal remote for the customer.
At least it is switching inputs for you, though. That to me is the most important. Are you mainly using a phone/tablet for chromecast or a PC? If mainly using your phone/tablet, you could use LG's app to turn on the TV before casting. I know it is not ideal, but unfortunately HDMI CEC was a standard but all manufacturers implemented it differently. There is currently no way for chromecast to work the way it was demoed to work across all manufacturers' TVs.
EDIT: Some ray of light is that LG is a hardware partner with Google. Chromecast support might get pushed to your current TV and/or Blu-ray which would solve your problems. If nothing else, I suspect LG to come out with a new Blu-ray player that supports Chromecast.
EDIT 2: I forgot that LG's network protocol does not support turning "on" the TV or Blu-ray so using LG's app will not help you.
In fact I have 3 Chromecasts (for our 3 TVs) and the Chromecast input switching works so well on the LG that I hooked all 3 on the LG and I was able to cast from Chrome at will to one at a time and they would automatically switch to the correct input on each and every time. Now if they can fix the Auto Power ON I will be all set. I also think that LG and Google have a good relationship so they can hopefully work out who will update what (Chromecast or the LG TV) to fix this. I certainly will continue bothering them both (Google and LG) till they fix the issue.

Sorry but no dice. Simplink settings: Simplink ON, Auto Power ON. The TV recognizes the 3 Chromecasts plugged into the 3 HDMI inputs with the Simplink logo on the input TV screen, but it refuses to allow them to turn the TV on. All 3 are powered with the external power brick. However, once the TV is manually turned on, the Chromecasts do switch to the correct input when something is cast to them. So as far as the 2013 LG model 47/50/55LA6200 is concerned, the only issue is that Chromecast will not turn the TV ON even though the Auto Power setting of Simplink (LG speak for HDMI-CEC) is on.
Either Chromecast or LG need to update the firmware for their devices, as I have said before the LG Blu-Ray player with Simplink does not have that problem and is able to turn the TV on just fine.
Placeholder for HDMI-CEC
http://www.quantumdata.com/pdf/CEC_White_Paper.pdf
And if you have, tell us how you did it. I have been trying everything on my LG SIMPLINK TV and no go. All the right settings on the TV are ON but still no go,
CEC, or Consumer Electronics Control, allows for HDMI devices to be controlled with one remote control. If your television has CEC support, you may be able to turn on and change the input on your TV using your phone, tablet or computer while using Chromecast. Please note that in order for CEC to work (if CEC is supported by your TV), your Chromecast must be powered by a power outlet.
Manufacturers often call CEC by different names, including Anynet+ (Samsung), Aquos Link (Sharp), BRAVIA Link and BRAVIA Sync (Sony), HDMI-CEC (Hitachi), CE-Link and Regza Link (Toshiba), SimpLink (LG), HDAVI Control, EZ-Sync, VIERA Link (Panasonic), EasyLink (Philips), and NetCommand for HDMI (Mitsubishi).

It worked after I turned on Anynet+ on my Samsung TV (from 2009). I also had to move from the TV USB to an external USB Power (actually it's my Google TV that provides power) because when the TV is off, it does not power the USB port.
This is a brand new 2013 LG smart TV. I have turned on the SIMPLINK and the auto power on, and the chromecast is using its own powersupply. I also have a SIMPLINK blu-ray player and that works perfectly. When I use the blu-ray player remote it will turn on the TV and switch to the right channel. Same with the LG TV remote control it can turn off and on the blu-ray player. So the HDMI-CEC (SIMPLINK) is not the issue. It is Chromecast as far as I can tell. With the TV off, if I try to cast a youtube video, chromecast does not turn on the TV for some reason. If the TV is already on but in a different input, it does switch to the right input so part of the Chromecast HDMI-CEC is working. I'm at a loss here.
What version of firmware your chromecast uses?

That's interesting, because I have my Chromecast running off of USB power (from my TV's USB port), and it still turns on my TV and switches inputs automatically when it detects casting. For what it's worth, my TV is a cheap 32" Vizio smart TV (purchased earlier this year from Target).
Has anyone been able to plug it directly into their receiver and get it to turn it on?
Mine is working as advertised. Powered by AC.

I have a Monoprice 4 port HDMI switcher and the Chromecast is plugged into it. It keeps turning on the other TV. My wife thought we had a ghost.
My 5 yo Samsung 46in LCD detects it as an AnyNet device and switches inputs but won't power on. My 2 yo Insignia 24in powers on.

Mine works and turns the TV on and even switches to the Chromecast input if I start a cast.
I have a 3 year old Sony 46EX710 with the Chromecast plugged into power using the USB port on the TV. It seems my TV powers the USB ports at all time, even if the TV is off.
It doesn't switch back to the last input or turn the TV off if I stop the cast though (I'm sure that has more to do with the TV than the Chromecast).
My Sony 40EX400 turns on when I have it plugged into the wall, but not when plugged into the USB port. (indicating the usb port does not provide power when the tv is turned off)
I dont believe usb ports receive power from tvs when the tv is off thus the reasoning that you need the wall outlet. I have setup 3 chromecasts and all require wall outlet power to turn on tvs, 2 samsung and 1 sony tv.
I've got a 2011 LG TV (simplink) that works with turning it on. However, my Vizio smart TV doesn't turn on. I need to do some more testing with the Vizio, because it would be handy if it turned it on.

Finally someone with an LG. I have a brand new LG 2013 47LA6200 smart TV and I still can not turn the TV ON (switches inputs just fine). I have both settings to ON for the SIMPLINK and AUTO POWER.
My Chromecast Firmware version is 12072 (you can see that on the Chromecast app). What is yours?
Mine has the same build number. My TV is the 47LW5600. Mine just worked without messing with any settings. Although, I've looked, and I can't seem to fine my simplink settings in the menus.
EDIT: Just realized that there's a simplink button on the stock remote that opens up the simplink menu. Only has options to turn off and on.

I have turned CEC on in the settings. There's only an on/off option, and detect devices, which it does detect the chromecast. It switches inputs just fine, but won't turn on the TV. I've also tested my HDMI receiver, and it doesn't turn that on either. However, I know the receiver can be turned on via CEC because my TV is capable of turning the receiver on. Maybe an update will offer better CEC compatibility.
EDIT: My raspberry pi turns on my vizio TV when you power it on, so the TV is definitely capable of being turned on via CEC.

I have my micro usb connected to usb port 2 for the android auto. Make sure the parking brake is set the first time you set up android auto. Might also have to have usb debugging turned on. Yes my parking brake is on. I have the Galaxy S6 which is not in the supported list but it does have Android 5.0 and I was able to download Android Auto App from Google play... I also attempted to do it with my old Galaxy S4 but it doesn't have Android 5.0 so cant download Android Auto... and to top that for MirrorLink I guess I need this Samsung Drive Link App which is not compatible with either phone!
its frustrating... Samsung is not keeping up with the Car technology... for the most part on Samsung's end I keep hearing it mostly works with the Galaxy S3 and some people have it working half ass on the Galaxy S5.

Here is the Amazon link for the Microbpass that is needed for the 4100,

The bypasses are relatively easy to make with a relay as well. The reason you can't just ground it out is they went above and beyond to make sure it is only active when the break is on. So, you have to create a delay in the bypass. Attach the amp on wire to the relay, the ground and the emergency break, and you're good to go. It is cheaper and quicker, as any decent electronic store will have the relay. Mine was $4 from RadioShack (RIP). This diagram shows it...

You do not need a bypass! I just bought the 6100-nex. Turn off radio to standby mode. Hold finger 1/2" up from bottom and 1/2" in from left side of screen for like 30-60 seconds. There are YouTube vids on it. Works on all nex radios. Also only the Samsung MHL/HDMI 2.0 adapter will work. NOT the pioneer one.

-Turn on your phone's WiFi hotspot
-Connect a computer to it
-Set up your chromecast to use your phones hot spot as the network
-Plug your chromecast into your radio
Now whenever you want to use your Chromecast you just have to turn on the hotspot feature on your phone. The Chromecast will connect to the hotspot and you can cast to it just like it was on your home (or any other) network.
Thanks!
Stupid question... This vs mirroring or like the unchained app.... no cables?? Not trying to be an ass about to pull the trigger on the appradio4 or 4100-nex so trying to see all the possibilities.. Thanks

This might be a stupid question, but if you set your Chromecast up to stream to your AVH-4100NEX over your phone's WiFi hotspot and then bring it back into your house to plug into your TV will it automatically recognize your home WiFi network or do you have to set it up again? I haven't gone through the initial setup process with my Chromecast for a while so I don't remember if it has memory for prior network setups. Not that I'll use the Chromecast in my car all that much, but they are cheap enough to justify buying two units if it becomes a hassle to reconfigure the Chromecast every time you transfer it between your home and car.

I don't think so. As far as I know, the Chromecast will only look for the network it was set up on. ( sorry for the late response.)
Hey everyone, i have an issue with my new Note 9 and its Dex mode. I've contacted Samsung's reps but no responses after 1 week now.
My issue is: if i connect my Note 9 to Samsung's Dex Hub (1st Gen) OR a 3rd party usb c to hdmi adapter (the Meopolow one) i cannot use my Spen to control the cursor on the screen or write on the phone's display and see it on the TV.
I've seen now more than 5 YouTubers doing this on their Notes.
I even have a visual clue about this missing feature - after i connect my phone, in the notification area i get a different notification as opposed to what i saw on YouTube. I will provide 2 photos for you to see what is different. If anyone can help i would appreciate it, i really need to make this work.
PS: the screenshot with blue annotations is on my phone, the one with the green band is from YouTube. Look where it says "use your phone as a touch pad

Works on mine, but it still kinda sucks. It asked me to turn my phone sideways to use the S-Pen. The best way I've seen is to connect a Bluetooth mouse to your phone.
I am switching to landscape and i tried with and without keyboards or mice. The thing is .. and you can check... You wont have that text in the notification area whether you keep your phone in portrait or landscape

Were you able to figure out what was wrong? I have the exact same issue you describe and nothing I've tried seems to work.
Yes I did.
The issue is with the Samsung's Dex Station (1st generation, the one like a hockey puck). It will not work with it.
Samsung's techs argued this: "since 1st Generation Dex Station is intended to be used with the phone in portrait mode, and the use of Spen requires landscape... it will not work".
To which i replied: "But we do have the possibility to run in landscape, if we double tap de "icon" in the top right corner it switches to landscape... also this can be verified by pulling down the notification area, which now comes down from the power button and not from the sensors side; also i even switched to landscape the whole thing, dex and phone....still no go".
They replied back: "It doesnt matter that you switch to landscape, the function needs to work with a device that can have landscape capability, and Dex 1 doesnt". The tech guy who called me, while on the phone, tested 2 Dexes himself and confirmed it will not work... its not just a tale"
I was about to accept this, but i told him I have a 3rd party usbc to hdmi (Meolopow) and it doesnt work with it either. He said, unfortunately its not Samsung, so from out point of view the reasons can be different, we cannot offer support for this.
So, i went and bought myself a Samsung adaptor (1x usb 3.0, 1x Gigabit Ethernet, 1x Hdmi, 1x UsbC) usb to hdmi.... and it works. So...it does seem that they are right. All those who bought themselves 3rd party adaptors... and have this thing work... they should consider themselves lucky... it seems its not guaranteed.
I chose the adaptor instead of the Samsung Dex Pad (2nd generation) as it is smaller and more versatile. On top of that... it doesnt require power to work... works fine without charger...and... i dont have to remove the flipcase or bumper.

Personally, I'm using 3rd party adaptor and the S-pen works for me...
Does the s-pen remote function have to be enabled?
No

I have same problem with you. Can you solve it? What kind of dex properties did you buy? Can you share photo of dex station you buy? Please help me, i need to use s pen on dex. Thankyou
Most car models produced don’t come with wireless Android Auto functionality. So what do you do if you’ve got an older model, or a new one that doesn’t come with wireless connection built in? This wireless dongle running perfect on my 19' E350.
The benefits I got from AACarPlay
Wireless Android Auto/ CarPlay
Add Chrome Cast to car - allowing watch TV with Car Screen

For sure it's true, before I considered Ottocast which supports wireless AA/ CarPlay, I choose this cause it added ChromeCast that allowing project Videos to Car. It's cool! right?

The screen mirroring feature - are you sure it's "Chromecast" and not "MiraCast"?
I ask because android phones such as Samsung phones support "Miracast", but Google Pixel phones can NOT do "Miracast" - they can only do Chromecast.
That's cool! this means I can cast TV from phone to car display. So how can I do it? connect via lightning cable or Bluthooth?

Your car needs to support Android Auto via a "Wired" connection, then it looks like this gizmo will allow you to connect your phone to your car using "wireless" Android auto. And it looks like it will also allow your car's screen to mirror your phone's display.

I have a question, when it is mirroring the display on your phone, does the car touch screen allow you to interact with your android phone?
Meaning, if your phone is displaying your home screen, and your car's display is also displaying your home screen (via the screen mirror feature), can you tap on an app icon on your cars display (not your phone's display) and have the app launch on your phone, or does the touch-screen on your car display do nothing when in "mirror" mode ?
As you can see on the screen, there're 2 entrances, one is "mirror" and one is "Cast"
Mirror is the entrance that allows you mirror your phone screen to car display, this static, that only show your phone screen on car display.
Cast is that you can project TVs, like YouTube or any streaming media from phone to car display, and you can also tap on icons on cars display to speed or back to home screen.
Does it support all Android apps in cast mode?

The cast mode may supports all video streaming apps, like YouTube, TVs, etc.
If you would like install all Google play stores apps to your car, the aacarplay pro box should be the right one for you! I don't need that much apps so I pickup the standard one, cuz aacarplay pro costs $100 more.
Hi. does wireless android auto work stable? I am looking for another one called AI Box from aacarplay, no limit to down apps.
Can someone test this for me...
Does "wireless" android auto work while the "hotspot" feature is turned on your phone?
Same question!
For the first time setup, keep Bluetooth and phone's hotspot on, after connecting with Android Auto, I can see the the hotspot is off, paired with Bluetooth.
It still using your phone's date while connecting android auto, just keep your Bluetooth on, it will be automatically connected. No need to open phone's hotspot.
