I'm about to throw down on an S22 because it's honestly the only human-hands sized phone in the current generation. The only thing holding me back is the possible curveball the ZF9 might be. Secondary display? Large battery? All the goodies with none of the bootloader locking nonsense I have to get around with international versions of the S22?
... maybe if the specs were announced tomorrow May 6th, like i saw posted somewhere? thoughts?
Looks like i answered my own question, they have an event May 9th that lines up perfectly with other Zenfone release dates

I love that samsung went smaller, but the 3700mah battery is a potential dealbreaker. no reason for the phone to be 7mm thick when the cameras protrude so much. make the back flush and go 4500mah+ instead
All the extras are intriguing, interactive back or whatever. It's just the battery for me.
soooooo it looks like there's a second event May 17 and im seeing all Laptop results as teasers for today
aand that event today turned out to be just two new asus rog laptops, our wait for any zenfone 9 news continues...
sad panda is sad. guess im getting a galaxy. Man if the Pixel6A had even a 90hz screen it would have been an instant buy for me
after the disappointment of today/yesterday, imma link this leak from January 2022 just in case anyone hasn't seen it yet
Asus Zenfone 9 and ROG Phone 6 designs spotted in Android 12 update

no fingerprint sensor back there but you will apparently still need a case cutout on the back anyways to use the "responsive back". maybe there will be a fingerprint sensor in the best location for one imo, that design in the leak or the feature in general could have been scrapped by now, who knows other than Asus themselves?
other things i'd like to see other than the fingerprint sensor in its proper place would be to:
keep the increasingly rare sub-6-inch form factor,
add one more camera for zoom to complete the almost standard now trifecta,
add wireless and reverse wireless charging just for the option and to set itself apart as one of the less than ten phones released this year so far with both,
and move the volume buttons to the left side of the phone,
that last one is minor but that just proves how well they did with the zen 8 imo.
Well well well, here it is

They kept the form factor, increased the battery size a bit and they did improve the location of the fingerprint sensor so right now this is one of my top picks for a new phone. who knows maybe they're waiting on revealing wireless charging yet? Looks like they didn't reveal the responsive back yet so either that feature was axed (like it should be lol) or they haven't revealed all the features yet. Maybe I'm too optimistic... Its between this and the xperia IV for me and right now the xperia is better with its telephoto camera (something this phone will definitely not have, confirmed by its design) and wireless charging (something thats unlikely but still a possibility for the zenfone, fingers crossed), the zenfone has got the form factor and the assumedly better price though.
ZF9 is also gonna be like half the price of the 1 IV, with a TSMC chip instead of the blazing mess that the Samsung chip is.
For me, the ZF9 looks to be the perfect device this generation. I never use wireless charging (super inefficient, plus, you already have a wire going to the charger...) I would love to see microSD slot and a telephoto, but it checks enough boxes for me to hopefully finally retire the 8T.

Between all the flagship phablets released in 2014, what do you think is the most worthy opponent to the Note 4 to be considered before you go and buy the note 4.
I am evaluating my options here, and considering other phones like the LG G3 beside the Note 4.
Share what do you think is a worthy opponent to the note 4.
In terms of the Note 3 Zero.
No SPen = no competitors.
None are in the same class in terms of multi app usage either.
I'm considering a Z3, and if an HTC M8 Maxx was out, I would consider that too...My wife's G3 is a pretty nice phone as well.
If a stylus is important to you, then obviously there is NO competition..
The way I see it we have four options
1) a worthy oponent to the note 4 would be another colour of the note 4, say you have a black one then a white one would be a worthy oponent.
2) a note edge maybe
3) a note 3
4) if you dont want to spend so much money that is then the oneplus one.
These are my opinions.
There are no opponents to the note line to be totally honest.
I see xda site got a facelift.

i dont have any personal grudge against that phone, but the poor display talks for itself
There's nothing comparable when it comes to display. Displaymate says its the best mobile display ever. The closest is probably the iPhone 6+ 1080p display if you don't count the QHD which most people don't care about, and it is a distant second. That's what you get when you are the only ones with modern OLED tech on a phone.
Nothing comparable to the Snapdragon 805 of the Exynos either. I mean, literally there are no 805 phones yet and definitely no 20nm Exynos phones which is, again, a Samsung exclusive.
S-Pen and wacom digitizer. Of course no one has it.
Camera nothing is comparable. All those crappy Chinese phablets use the same 13MP sensor with terrible software processing. The Vibe Z2 Pro supposedly has the same 16MP OIS sensor, but I've seen more than a few reviews of it and the quality really sucks. Software does a whole lot, and the glass and camera unit they built the sensor into is likely not that great either. LG G3 isn't very sharp and their low light shots are very overexposed. and blur easy because they rely heavily on the OIS. Xperia Z2/Z3 is low contrast, underexposed, noisy, poor colors, and very inconsistent. It has no OIS either. The only superior cameras are iPhone 6/6+ for nightshots, and Nokia Pureview cameras. Basically nothing can compete with the Note 4 in Android. Android just really sucks with cameras in general.
another none here, but come to think of it little more, Note 3 is actually the only opponent. Others have no stylus and therefore not in the same class, Note 2 is little outdated. I know it's bad since my choices for phone are limited to 2 models, but I refuse to have phone without stylus.
Been using my 3T for two days now. Haven't sold my 6S, though the plan was to use the funds I would've got from that to cover the cost of the 3T.
The reason being is I'm having a few doubts. I'm no stranger to Android, as the majority of my smartphone's have been Android, and the first iPhone I bought was in January 2015.
I don't particularly miss any of the iOS features such as iMessage and Facetime, as WhatsApp pretty much covers those, 3D Touch was quite handy but this has gestures instead.
My issues are, I guess, the camera; OIS, mic quality, security, Android Pay.
Camera wise, on paper the 3T is better than my 6S without OIS, but so far it struggles to take pictures without some form of motion blur. Recording, the mic isn't as good either. Also read reports of the camera hump falling off, at least on the 3.
I'm also a little concerned with security, I've had way more pop ups / apps being forced on me in the past two days, than I would have using the iPhone for the same amount of time. Though I heard Nougat is as secure as iOS now?
Oh and I can't get Android Pay to work. Well I managed it by accident, held the phone on the same way as I normally works with the 6S, and nothing. Ended up waving the phone around whilst unlocked until it registered.
Not sure if am looking for faults because Apple have sold their products and OS on me, or if the 6S just is a better device...
... though it can't compete with the 3T's screen, Dash charge, fast fingerprint scanner and battery life.
Miss my Autodesk Graphic app though
Need convincing I've made the right choice, thanks guys
I got my OP3T a couple days ago and I love it.
First off, there is no such thing as a perfect phone, but this one comes pretty close.
Camera - From my testing with the camer on my phone, I think that the main camera is VERY sensitive to motion. YOu need a steady hand to take good pics. However the front facing camera is really good and pics don't come out distorted at all. I think reall all you need is to find a camera app with good stabilization and you will be good.
Microphone - don't really use this, but I don't think it's a problem. I know phone quality is really good and clear for me. There are apps and mods that can probably help out with tweaking the mic
Security - just like anything, with time anything can be hacked. Keep in mind that oneplus 3T is a dev friendly phone. Most other phone manufacturers cringe on letting users modify their phone. Certainly Apple is very much opposed to that as well. Now your popup issue might be something else. There are a lot of popup blockers you can use. I use and recommend Ad Guard pro. It blocks ads and popups in browsers and in apps.
Here is what it comes down to... Do you use your phone more for pictures and video or pretty much anything else? If it's the later, than honestly you can go wrong with the OP3T. If you use it for photos and videos more, then maybe you can research some apps to see if there is anything out there that is worth using to make better pics.
It's funny because I bought a 64gb iPhone 6S plus today to resell and honestly it feels ancient compared to my 3t .
I have natural steady hands..

Not the best photo obviously lol but it can take great pictures. Any good photographer can take a picture with anything and make it look amazing, camera is sensitive to motion but software update can fix this. No problems with video it looks and sounds very clear not o mention videos are very steady.

The NFC sensor is behind the camera. I used it for a purchase 2 hours ago and it was fine. You just have to hold the camera up to the sensor for a few seconds and it should work. You don't even need to open the app. Just need to unlock your phone and have NFC on.
Hope you keep the device
Yes, yes, it's possible to love a phone. Heck, you sleep next to it, don't you? Rate this thread to indicate your love for the RED Hydrogen One, all things considered. A higher rating indicates that the RED Hydrogen One is an incredible phone that you enjoy tremendously. You love it.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Pretty much everyone in the Houdini program (pre-release testing) appear to just **love** their device.
I've had mine for about two weeks now and have grown to absolutely love it! While the industrial design may be a stark departure for some, the scalloped edges make me feel really comfortable not using a case. Its really clear that this device is well built.
It runs a fairly stock version of Android 8.1, and I receive OS updates every few days to address bug fixes. Funny thing is, I haven't witnessed any bugs myself. While it's not an SD845, most users won't be able to tell the difference at all. This thing FLIES! I think until the next snapdragon SOC shrinks down a bit to single digit nm size, the performance gains won't be significant enough for users to really be measurably different in real world tasks.
Battery life is bonkers! I'm constantly demoing the device at full brightness for several hours a day, and on those days will end with about 40% life left. On my "off days" of regular use, I will typically only get to about 60-65% by the end of the night. I'm quite comfortable saying this will last some users two days.
The camera is fantastic as well! I looked it up in AIDA and it doesn't say who makes them, but the specs say 12.3 MP and 1.55 μm cell size. There's a few devices on the market with the exact same specs and both are praised for their camera prowess. I think what makes this one so awesome is the spacing between the cameras, which makes for the awesome 4-View holographic effect but also creates an awesome depth of field mode. I'll see if I can post some samples later today. The 4-View screen is something you just have to see. I won't bother explaining it, but I'll say that adding depth to photos makes me feel like a great photographer, even though I'm typically best outfitted with a potato cam.

I just got my 2nd unit; so, I can start to experiment a little.
BUT, I have a *lot* to learn as my last Android device started
in KitKat and runs Nougat today. From a cursory look, quite
a bit has changed since then with a/b updates and the like.
Oh, and finding time for these experiments is another issue...

If you bought directly from RED they will send you the Key to unlock. Hopefully you can work your magic with that. They are not allowed by contract to do that with Carrier phones.

update all Red apps, and you can take portrait or landscape front and back
Good morning Red One users. I have an opportunity to purchase one of these from AT&T and was wondering if anyone can confirm that the speaker has gotten better for hands-free calling. I'm basing this off of a YouTuber who said he cannot hold phone conversations over speakerphone without the other party saying they can't understand him so he has to switch to handset. I've had a chance to see the demo and the AT&T store and they have only one left and they're holding it for me until close today.
I did notice when I was in the AT&T store looking at the demo I noticed the LG I was currently using had all of its signal bars but the hydrogen only had about 3. So I'm wondering if anyone has had any signal issues or drop coverage. I know this depends on your cellphone provider towers locations. Just wondering if anyone saw any drop off in cellphone coverage from previous devices?
I have both the AT&T version as well as the unlocked Titanium. Both operate on the AT&T network without issue. The signal bar has never dropped below half that I'm aware of and I have not had coverage issues even while traveling.
I purchased a Redmi Note 10s for about now 2 months. I understand it is a budget device, but I am trying to see if anyone who is more knowledgeable on Android than me knows what may be occurring here. Yes, I have tried to Google the solution but to no avail. I'm sorry.
The device works fine overall, but the other day I started the camera app and I noticed there is a line at the top of the frame when in any mode other than 1:1.
If I place the camera in a 1:1 ratio, there is no line (since it shortens the top), anything else there is this stuck annoying line at the top. Now, what is peculiar is that when using the stock camera app, and we go video, the line at the top moves according to how I move the device around, it is not stuck. Also, I noticed the line at the top changes color, depending on background and weirdest thing of all.. it applied this line to all my pictures that I took PRIOR to this issue occurring.
Also, I tried gcam and other camera apps. In photo mode, same story, line at the top is stuck, but when we go video on these other apps, the line now does not "move" like in the stock camera app but is also stuck in video mode as well.
Now, its either hardware or software I know. I have not done a total reset yet but may later on but since I got a bunch of logins and apps downloaded and what not, I wonder if anyone knows a solution about this issue.
Hardware: Impossible unless the build is this bad for Xiaomi Redmi devices. I never smacked the device, it never fell nor has any liquid damage. I babied it since day 1.
Software: I think it could likely be more a software issue than hardware but pls enlighten me why and how to fix.
Thank you,
Does it happen using every lens or just one lens? What you describe sounds like some sort of spirit levelling/guide lines, although they shouldn't be present on a saved image, unless some option is enabled to do so. Try resetting the app, just write down settings you want to remember first.
I recommend trying the gcam port app instead of the stock one too, much better images.
Post a sample photo and screenshot demonstrating the glitch.

It is happening only with the main lens, not the others.
I went ahead and wiped data. Issue persist unfortunately.
When I point the camera towards a bright light, you can see the top line becoming blue and part of it disappearing.
Will post images soon to give you a better idea.
Yes I did try other apps such as gcam. Same issue.

From the looks of it, it seems like you have a faulty sensor. Just have your phone replaced from where you bought it.
Agreed with jacobpayag, looks like an RMA job, for a faulty sensor.
I bought it from wirelessplace, and I am unable to return or exchange unfortunately since it has been over 30 days. I emailed them but.. I doubt they will do anything. I guess I will keep it as is. No Xiaomi CS in the USA, I do not believe I can RMA this device. Please advise.

Sorry I can't help you with consumer rights laws in the USA. I'd be surprised if you couldn't have it repaired or replaced within 12 months from purchase though.

I mean I'll keep the phone, its overall a great device and I am not huge on photos or anything but still.. to have a defect after 2 months? Not giving me much faith in their QC for future purchases.

That's why I still prefer buying phones physically. Also, you could try to repair the device yourself. I think you can buy the camera module online and AFAIK, you can replace each individual camera instead of having all 4 replaced.

Hello, I want advice for a phone between iPhone 13 Pro, Samsung s 21+, I want to use it for a long time, fast and non-catching. What do you think of Samsung's Exinus processor? Some people say it's good, others say it's not. Is snapdragon better? Also what do you think about OnePlus 9 Pro, Oppo find x 3 pro, Sony xperia and Pixel 6 pro.? I will be grateful for your detailed advice. Which phone is the best in the long run.
Welcome to XDA
Long run, how long? There have been display issues with the S21Us. Unlike iPhones and other Androids stock Samsung's UI is tricked out.
Personally I won't buy any Android with no SD card slot which I use as a data drive. Samsung's support up to 1tb. My minimum ram is 8gb but having 12gb doesn't hurt.
I want a native spen, its remote bt shutter release and especially Smart Capture are very useful.
I want either Android 9 or 10 which the Samsung UI is nearly identical for both and functional.
I didn't want the issues with variable rate displays (reduced color rendering/power consumption) or 5G. I hate rounded display corners.
So I went with a second new Note 10+ Snapdragon running on Android 10.
Still one of the best Amoled displays out there. My heavily used 2+ year old N10+ continues to run nearly flawlessly with one battery replacement so far.
It looks and runs like it was new. No detectable display degradation with ScreenTest. It's a gorgeous solid workhorse that just keeps running. Buttons, spen and C port jack are still tight. Current OS load is over 1.5 years old, still fast and stable with minimal maintenance.
Projected service life is 2-3+ years.
Zero regrets... so far.
The biggest problem with Androids is choice. There's an Android to fit any appetite...
My display is minimalistic by design. Dark themed with One Handed Operation plus running on the sides. Digi Clock also hides a set of quad short cut buttons. There's a lot there, out of sight...

If you don't want the spen there's the S10, 20 series. These are smaller more no nonsense phones that are still very capable.
My knowledge of them however is very limited.
Whatever you decide use a reliable vendor as there's a lot of misleading ads. Best to talk with the company by phone first and feel them out.
