Hi,
I am running the leaked 606 froyo stock ROM but I wanted the stock google email app so I wrongly decided to flash the google apps package from http://goo-inside.me/google-apps/ . However now I can't open any of the google apps and the email app is missing anyway. Could you please tell me which package either from that webpage or any other I could use to make it work again? Possibly as a flashable zip as my command knowledge is dismal. Thanks
I believe that the google apps package you installed is compiled/optimized for gingerbread so that might be why you don't get it to work. Try reflashing the rom over and all should be reset, if not you might need a data wipe before. Then you should be able to find the stock Gmail app in the market and you can uninstall/freeze the LG one.
Ok so I just got my Milestone rooted yesterday and installed iceandfire custom rom on it.
After doing so, I found out that there's no Android Market app installed on it. After a quick Google search, it seems there is no official download link for the app, and that it only comes pre-installed on certain devices, not all of them.
Anyway, I did some search and found that I can easily install it by just downloading the .apk file and use Astro (which comes pre-installed with iceandfire) to install it. I found the link here:
http://www.theandroidsoul.com/downloadinstall-new-android-market-apk-application-v-3-0-26/
So I downloaded it and it installed fine. I then launch it and it pops up a message saying I don't have an account and then I need to sign in or create one. I click on OK to create one but nothing pops up. I rebooted my phone and did it again, still the same thing. I'm not sure what the problem is, but I've tried many suggestions, mostly from here:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Android Market/thread?tid=2c6343eb1c5c4e2e&hl=en
and none of it works. Can someone give me some help?

You need to first flash Google Apps (gapps) and you will get the Market and other Google services. You can create a gmail account on your computer and use that to sync with your phone.

Ya I already have a Gmail account, just couldn't figure out how to get it to work with Android Market.
Hmm I also did find some info on gapps, I downloaded it but couldn't install it using Astro. Do I put that in the updates folder, the same as where I put the custom rom, and then apply the update? Would I have to remove the custom rom first to prevent it from flashing my phone again?
YOU HAVE TO FLASH GAPPS !!!
Do it like you flashed Ice and Fire and any other MOD in OR !!
Some times it's very important to READ a Thread and don't only search for Downloadlinks.

yup, got it flashed and installed successfully. Now I have another problem, I can't seem to get it to sign in? I get this message:
"cannot establish a reliable data connection to the server. This could be a temporary problem or your sim card may not be provisioned for data services. If it continues call customer care"
At first I thought it's probably my connection, so I tried using 3G instead of WIFI, but still the same thing. I then tried to create an account but it gave me the same error, so I can't create or sign in at all.
I did a quick search and people have said it could be that the SIM card or your service provider doesn't support it or something. Which doesn't make sense as why would setting up an account like this be relevant to your service provider? It's just the same as setting up an exchange or email account on any device.......also, while I was still using Windows Mobile on my Xperia X1 or HTC Touch Pro, I was able to install Android on it and went through the same setup process and got it working properly. So I don't think it's gotta do with the SIM card....
Evening All.
I have not long since got my HTC One (UK version of it makes any difference).
It is S-Off, bootlooader unlocked and rooted with TWRP 2.6.3 recovery but currently running stock firmware. I've had a play with ARHD and liked it. However it's a bit of a nause having to re download apps every time I update. The internet were I am is very slow so this takes time.
I know backup solutions exist however I get conflicting reports about the apps. Having come from an iPhone (which I still use as a work phone) I am looking for a backup solution that with either a brand new phone or a factory reset and a new/custom Rom I just hit restore and it puts all my apps data and settings as it was when I backed up. Including things like my layout in widget locker and nova launcher.
I was going to be using helium but then read that you still have to download the APK for all the apps again from Google so that seems a pretty defunct choice.
It's there an app which will backup my phone, I can remove this to my laptop. Then factory reset, reinstall the app (I'm assuming you have to do this) and then I put the backup back on the phone and restore it?
Cloud options are no use due to the slow internet.
Apologies if this has been covered before but I just can't seem to find a definitive answer.
Thanks in advance.
Carl.

Are you rooted? It is known not to work on rooted devices with the latest update. Strange I know...
You might want to try the older apk.
Sent from my Note 4 running FK.v17x
Yes, but it was working before, restored from a backup I created backup before installing, restored wallet and it says that I need to setup pay, no luck
Edit:
Found a workaround and it's working again, go to your superuser app and temporary unroot, complete the setup and reactivate root, it's working for me again
Looks like we're out of luck being rooted... Thanks google
It can be used rooted
Hi all,
Wondering if anyone else is running into this. I installed the Exchange Services APK from apkmirror, and was able to get Gmail to support exchange accounts. However, after a period of time, the account vanishes from the device. I found some threads on the S6 forum where this also occured, but can't seem to locate a solution anywhere. Anyone have any ideas? I've tried all the usual suspects such as clearing data/cache, etc. No luck. Running stock 5.1.1 on a 920i.
Thanks.

Oh, good! I'm seriously glad that I'm not the only person this happens to. Perhaps if we compare notes, we can isolate the issue.
I'm running an OH6 firmware (stock for the n920i) and had package disabler pro disabling a bunch of things (but nothing that I wasn't disabling when the problem did NOT occur on either an 'a' or 'c' variant.) I've also tried with the gm.exchange apk installed as a user app and as a system app.
Most recently, I tried it with package disabler pro completely removed from the device to see if that matters. (I'm now rooted and can use titanium backup to disable bloat.) Same results.
I've also tried with samsung's exchange support disabled and enabled (it didn't matter.)
I'm almost considering to just use samsung's email program for the exchange server and gmail for .. well.. gmail. I'd rather that both accounts are accessible from the same program, but I'm not willing to use my gmail account from the samsung program (as it doesn't support advanced gmail functionality that I need.)
Had the same problem. Went back to using k9. Would love to find a solution.

That's based on Tmobile's N920TUVU1BOH6. Do you know if anyone else running that firmware is using exchange via gmail - and if it's working or not?
What apk Version you are using?
I have the same issue until i install the com.google.android.gm.exchange_5.0.101238867-502287_minAPI19(nodpi).apk
This is for the latest API!

I never had this problem on my "c" variant... only on the "i" variant. However, I'm willing to try anything at this point... Just installed and configured 5.0.101238867 (from apkmirror.) Wish me luck.
Take care

Well, if anyone actually did wish me luck, it seems it might be working. With 5.0.101238867 (likely taken a nexus marshmallow RELEASE image), I've now been 24 hours without losing the gmail exchange account.
However, I am noticing another problem: On my phone, I can't edit any of the contacts sync'd via google's exchange. I can view them, but there doesn't seem to be any mechanism to edit them with Samsung's contacts apk. (The option to edit is there, but when I select it, I can't actually change anything.)
Edit: If I sync the contacts with Samsung's activesync/exchange support, I can edit the contacts... so this might just be a case of gmail contact sync being incompatible with samsung contact sync. In order to edit the contacts sync'd with gmail's exchange support, I have to install the google contacts apk from a nexus device running 5.1.x (or from apk mirror.)

Did this end up working full-time for you? I have installed the 5.0.101238867 and it survived a reboot (what I believed was removing the accounts before...) but I woke up this morning to find my work account gone.

Yes, it's still working for me. With either a "i" variant OH2 firmware or a "t" variant firmware that I've been using for the past 3-4 days.

Strictly speaking, you don't need root to install the firmware - but you will trip KNOX when you install TWRP or Philz CWM (which is the only way I'm aware of to get the 't' system on a non-t variant.)

What if I disable Knox first, with Package Disabler (which doesn't need root. Not actually sure how it works )

Disabling the knox software won't prevent the knox fuse (or flag) from being tripped if/when you flash a custom recovery.
However, the knox software will stop working once the fuse/flag is tripped.

I have no idea if it's good or bad for you and your circumstances.
I ended up giving up on Gmail and finding a better solution anyway. Aqua Mail can be made to look almost exactly like Gmail, so I went that route and it works perfectly. I also like the additional customization it allows for. Also, Boxer has a nice Gmail clone that Cyanogenmod is using that looks promising as well.
