I just bought this phone 5 day ago then i just realized i smell something from this phone it's like nail polish remover, do anybody have this smell too? Or it is just because it's new phone and it will went away throught time?
I can confirm the smell. I bought he phone some weeks ago and unsealed the box on my own.
When opening the box I got shocked by the pretty strong smell that was everywhere (phone/charger/box).
It has dissipated after a few days and I guess it's some adhesive solvent ... hopefully.
I'm saying hopefully, because I recall the exact smell from a Li-Ion laptop battery that was bulged and I had to puncture before removing. So, I hope it's not the battery that leaked electrolyte during the assembly ...
normal for new phone.

Hi all,
My little nephew dropped my Tytn II in the toilet and i want to know if anyone has had an issue with water damage and managed to resurect their phone.
I pulled it out within 3 seconds of falling in, i then removed the battery and slid the keyboard out furiously drying with a towel. After about 30 minutes i reinserted the battery and the sacreen showed thin multi colred horizontal lines and then went white.
I removed the battery again and then left it for 24 hours at which time i restarted it and got to the "smart mobility " screen but then the screen did the multi color lines and then went white after about 15 seconds, when i put the phone to my ear i hear like a scratching sound, i contacted the phone company i am with and they sia try drying it with a hair dryer or leaving it out in the sun, also they had a customer who put their phone in the oven and got it to work again. Granted this was not for a Tytn II but i am just wondering if anyone has had any success with getting their pohne to work again after a similar set of circumstances.
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kane
Patience can work wonders - you have to understand that the very intricate insides of your phone have been saturated (from the sound of things) and even the merest hint of any residual damp in the wrong place could effectively kill the phone as you've described. It could also cause more long term damage when it's powered up in that state, so I'd really recommend keeping the battery away from it for as long as possible. Do as the guys on the phone suggest, leave it somewhere warm and dry (your airing cupboard if you have one) and just wait a few days at least, maybe even a week. I wouldn't advise any extremes of heat (the oven etc) as this could damage something in itself - you don't want to go from a damp phone to a melted one! The LCD screen may be quite sensitive to heat, and you wouldn't want to damage that.

Well I did the same exact thing about a month ago...I was pissed! I reacted very quickly and pulled out the battery and let the phone sit overnight. In the morning I dissassembled the phone and took a hair dryer to all the circuit boards and pretty much every piece. I put it back together, said a little prayer, and it worked! Just thought I would share my experience.
So my recommendation...take it apart and dry it out nice and good.

WOW!, thats fantastic, i did look at taking it apart but the screws are so tiny and look to be in the star shape (not like a regular screw) can you advise where you got a screw driver set to open it.
PS. I was pissed as well.
Thanks to everyone for your help

Sorry one more thing, can you tell me how long you dried it for with the hair dryer? how far away were you holding the hair dryer and have their been any side effects since you got it working.
PS. i found a place that sells the screw drivers,
go to radioshack and buy a T4 or T5 screwdriver. I think it's a 5 but just buy the whole T set. It's for electronics. There's a thread somewhere on this site that shows how to disassemble to the kaiser
Hi, My name is Hooty, I'm an HTC Killer. Tonight marks my 7th HTC phone to be destroyed in some form in my possession...
1. Jasjar - Screen
2. Dash - Screen shatter - replaced
3. Dash - Charging Circuit Fried
4. Advantage - Screen - replaced it.... then...
5. Advantage - Charging Circuit Fried (both related to 1 single bad charger...)
6. Diamond Euro - Slammed in a door and frame bent (screen survived miraculously, but permanently mis-aligned)
7. Diamond US - Fell in to a puddle from my laptop bag....
So this leads me up to my next question, the internals of the Diamond Euro seem to be just fine, it was just the frame and exterior that are bad, with the exception being the screen... Is it feasible to change out the radio and any other boards affect by the water for the unwatered down parts from the Euro version? or are they non-interchangeable? I am not worried about the 3G capability as I use T-mobile US and of course they use off-frequencies for their 3G..... I have the manual downloaded and definitely have all of the tools (have done the screens on all of my devices myself, so technical prowess isn't the issue). Just need to know the interchangeability of the parts....

+1
i would have thought the main board etc would be generic.
hmmm, let the phone drip dry over night in a warm room (after pulling sim, stylus, battery and back) and it seems to be doing alright with the exception of the triggered moisture indicator.... maybe I got lucky this time....

My wife's blue angel fell in the toilet... don't ask. Same thing though, I thought it was toast but after it had fully dried it worked fine, I won't comment on the smell Seriously though it lasted until I got sick of it.

Hey Guys,
Recently some salt water manage to get in my Samsung Galaxy S while i was fishing. Ive open my phone and clean as much corrosion as possible. Now I've notice that somethings are starting to fail on me in the past few hours My accelerometer, Charging port, 3.5mm head jacks, screen is all good and sim card slot. I can call out but cant take calls in. Chances are the corrosion can finish my phone off for good, in a few months time.
I was thinking if i can buy, new replacement parts or even the whole samsung galaxy s board ? and if any please link.
thank you, kindly appreciated
only level 3 services centre can get new boards but then you also need to write an IMEI to it and print out a new IEMI sticker so not something that can be done. buy a broken screen galaxy s from ebay and swap screens.
I'm sorry for your unscheduled swim.
Frankly, salt water damage is about as bad as it gets-anything depending upon capacitance or resistance will ultimately be affected by the salt.
In my opinion the whole phone is either now or soon will become erratic-even if you swap your screen into an ebay broken screen replacement as suggested I feel the screen from your current phone will deteriorate quickly so you may be sending good money after bad.
I think it's bite the bullet time
Best Wishes
Ashley
disappointed .... : \ Is the phone worth selling ? while phone housing is still new around 2 days old. Screen is still working but might die in the future due to corrosion but so far so good screen is fine.

Not as a whole phone, maybe for parts, but you would have to mention the salt water damage otherwise it would be fraudulent.
Some times things happen that are just plain accidents and most likely, like AshleySear said, it's bite the bullet time time.
Maybe look around eBay for a used phone, or wait for the new Galaxy S 2.
Sorry for your potential loss,
Ian

Page 121 of the i9000 user manual.. They have a built-in water sensor, to allow Samsung to identify when moisture has entered the device. If it's similar to the iPod's, it's probably inside the headphone port (so they can see the color change without opening the device).
So don't warranty it..
There is 6 in the galaxy s plus we have microscopes to check the board as well.
Sent from my GTI-9000 Using that XDA app thingy
I hade same problem
I managed to drop my 2 weeks old GalaxySII in water. The left side of the phone was in sea water for maybe 2 seconds.
I dismounted the battery and tried to blow on it.
That war 10 days ago. Now that the warranty is gone and insurance dont cover anything I yesterday decided to disassemble it and try to clean it with filtered water.
Well the salt had dried and started to corrode on the circuits. It did not look promising but i gave it a try anyway. I used Electrical Cleaner and even bathed the circuit board in lukewarm water. The salt would not come off.
I dried then assembled the phone and pressed the power button with a spark of hope... nothing happened
So my conclusion is DO NOT BADE YOUR SMARTPHONE IN SEA WATHER!!
At least if your unlucky and it is to late put it in your pocket and annoy someone to push you into the sea. Then at least the insurance covers it
I guess my next phone will be a Motorola Defy+ or a Samsung Galaxy Xcover since i have a bad habit of breaking my phone.
today morning i droped my sgsl in detergent water .
i will keep it alone for one week
i wanted to know that detergent water damages more than water or salt water or any ways to get my phone alive
Hi, my name is Alan and i just want to share with you what happened recently with my Galaxy Note...
a few days ago the wifi adapter just dissapeared, followed by the SD card, the s-pen and USB functions (i can charge it but my pc doesn't recognize it, even in download mode)... I've seen all of these problems by separate in the forum but not in a whole package.
Sounds like a faulty board... and sounds like it's time to replace the whole phone.
Water damage?
Not water damage.
Not really, i replaced the screen a few moths ago though... but it was fully functional until last week.
On the other hand my 2 years old nephew dropped a XT925 in the toilet lol... it was there for 30 or 45 minutes, i know it's splash resistant but it's not a freaking submarine... a few hours later (after cleaning it xD) i powered up the phone and surprise! it was working, kinda, no signal and when the battery ran out i couldn't charge it back, it was dead, all i had was a nice kevlar and carbonfiber paperweight xD.
i opened the phone, washed the "sulphated" areas (or however it's called... my english it's a little rusty) with isopropyl alcohol, dried it... and voila! it's been more than a year since that and my brother still uses that phone .
bought a s4 active from a girl for the screen but she told me bring my battery cuz hers is shorted out. the white dot is pink. the phone is waterproof so i didnt suspect any motherboard damage but my battery didnt allow it to turn on either. no signs of moisture nor corrosion inside on the motherboard either
It's only waterproof if the case is closed correctly. I didn't try the waterproofness when I bought it, I certainly won't do it nearly 3 years later.
But what's you question?
