Flashing Magisk won't affect your data, unless system conflict
It is better to backup your data before modding

You will get OTA, after Root also, but after updating your root will gone, recovery will replaced by Stock recovery, and if You are decrypted after update
it will get encrypted.

Does stock recovery not allow zip flashing?

It allows local upgrade, but it has not much flexibility like TWRP.
I've just updated from 4.0.2 to 4.0.3 and here's how my "OTA" was working:
1) Got notification that the update is available
2) Went to XDA to download OOS 4.0.3. full ROM zip, TWRP 3.1.4.1 image and Magisk 11.1 root
3) rebooted to TWRP, flashed new ROM, Magisk root and TWRP image.
As far as I know, that's the only sure way to update your phone while keeping root and TWRP.
Does it pass safety net?

Yes, it does! With MagiskHide it works like a charm.

I'm sorry, i didn't fully understand what you were trying to say here
But i'll take a wild guess and tell you that in TWRP you always need to flash full ROM, not OTA version. Otherwise your phone won't boot.

Nope, it never wipes anything other than system, so all your data and apps are safe.

Which version twrp to use seen official and a few others in forum for our device??
Hello, sorry for my bad english (German). I installed the update too and now my root, recovery, kernel.... are away. When I try to flash the recovery or other stuff with cmd, is there an error message: FAILED (remote: Partition flashing is not allowed)
Got anyone an idea how i can flash my recovery again?
since both available TWRP images don't work on september patch, I tried to decrypt data using magisk and fastboot, I installed magisk with avb and force encryption turned off then I used fastboot format userdata, but it still says it's encrypted, is there any way to decrypt it?

Go on fastboot,
Fastboot -w
This will wipe everything on the phone, boot twrp, flash the zip then flash magisk
You will no longer be able to receive OTAs
I want a clean install on my mate 20.
I have unlocked bootloader and want to install stock rom with root prevs.
My current install process:
I first
flash with twrp
then remove encryption
then wipe cache/dalvik
then format data,
then install romaur v1.x from twrp.
when get into emui i use emui flasher1.1apk to go to the firmware i want.
This process takes to long and what file-format does the firmware need to be in order to install stock rom from twrp??
I love the romaur, but there are some components removed from the rom that i have gotten used to in emui.
The rom is ultra fast tough! (sorry Aur)
So how to makes this work:
TWRP
Format data
clear cache/dalvik
install 9.0.0.xxx (optional rom)
Finish with a clean install and then root with patched_boot.img
Then install magisk ++++
Any ideas? Hope my post makes sense.
Regards, Kenneth, Norway

I guessing there is no way to install stock rom from twrp then??
???
how about using hstool to upgrade to the latest firmware and then unlock bootloader and flash patched magisk to recovery_ramdisk partition.
and if you want twrp you can flash it to ercovery partition

i'm not sure but i think the bootloader get's locked, and when you unlock the bootloader the phone get's wiped.
when i had locked bootloader and used hstool to update between versions my data was not wiped.

no problem
I am trying to root my Redmi Note 9, and the instructions I am following say to install "lazyflasher-no-verity-opt-encrypt".
I downloaded it and unzipped it but can't figure out how to actually install it on the phone. There is no APK file that I can see. The other key download, Magisk, came with a APK, so that stage went okay.
When I realized that I didn't know how to install lazyflasher, I uninstalled Magisk, as I feared bricking the device on the next boot.
Is there a way to backup the whole system, before I go ahead and brick it? I want to back up not just user data and a few app settings, I want something that will allow me to restore all my installed apps and system settings, in case something goes wrong.
No, you do NOT need no-verity-opt-encrypt.

Good news. Can you link me to a decent set of instructions for rooting my device? I am an android noob, with Windows and Linux skills.
And what NOT to do, if I don't want a bricked device?
Just make rooting using fastboot and flash updates using fastboot and everything will be fine.
So if I do it the fastboot way, it wipes personal data, right? Is all that data restorable by means of the standard Redmi backup tool? If not, what's recommended to backup and restore that set of data?
No, data is not formatted for rooting or updating the system.
Data is formatted only for unlocking bootloader.
Do I need to unlock the bootloader for fastboot?
You do NOT need unlocked bootloader if you want to flash signed images (from stock rom).
But, you NEED unlocked bootloader if you want to flash custom partitions, like patched boot.img and patched vbmeta.img, for rooting.

Thanks for all your help!
I want to do two things:
1 Install a root certificate in order to get my phone working with my local network
2 Install a backup app such as Titanium Backup.
So my RN10Pro is running MIUI 13.0.8 . Is it possible to download a MIUI 13.0.8 ROM from the Mi website and flash it to "Reinstall" the os?
Also, does this method need extra things like TWRP or is the unlocked MIUI bootloader enough?
You can reflash yes, I tried it before but on a different phone. I think you can do it in the Updater in settings too, I did mine in twrp by flashing recovery rom and doing a format data because of encryption. But to be sure (and avoid any errors), use fastboot flashing instead. It will wipe the data so be sure to backup.

So to be clear, it needs the unlocked bootloader right? Guess I have to wait 7 days :/

You can relock it afterwards if you're not planning to do any modifications or move to a custom ROM.
