Device Going Bonkers - Samsung Galaxy S20 FE Questions & Answers

Yo..., My Samsung Galaxy S20 FE has been acting very strange lately. I fell like I might have downloaded apps or something with credentials that is giving it seemingly ridiculous access. I'm showing like 13 devices contributing to Google Maps and activities. It also uses insane amounts of data and battery.
I've tried solving this on my own a number of times,(forums, factory resets, malware and antivirus software)but it always seems to move this way again.
It could be something I've downloaded and just can't get rid of. But I'm also suspicious of my girlfriend. She definitely accesses it, thinking im ignorant to it, but I'm not sure she's capable of this. She's more the, look at the history, forward my calls, add me to a spam rolodex.
It's also worth noting that I'm a veteran with mental health and substance abuse issues, so sometimes, my level of paranoia from combat trauma and just ****in tying one on, causes hyperbolic paranoia. But if you're willing give a little of your time, take a peak or offer some advice, even to unequivocally prove to me I'm ****in crazy, I'd really appreciate it.
Kind regards fellas

If the phone is not rooted, then reset the phone again, but do not put the SIM card you have been using so far, but put a brand new card in it for a while and do not log into any accounts.
If the previous problems do not appear, then you have the answer: the problem is not related to the phone.

Htc phones in general: Is your phone running slow??

OK... I dont know how many times this answer or question has been asked on XDA, but I know for a fact that since i have had my first ever pocket pc phone, the PP-6600, which was about mid-2005, this situation has been a general problem with Virtualy everyone who has ever owned a PPC or
smartphone! (Maybe i will get my name in lights as a sticky post for this answer!!)
BUT HERES THE SITUATION... YOUR PHONE BEGINS TO GRADUALLY BECOME SLOWER. SOON ENOUGH YOU CANT EVEN SLIDE YOUR SCREEN AND ACCESS YOUR KEYBOARD WITHOUT A 30-45 SECOND DELAY, OR IN MORE EXTREME CIRCUMSTANCES YOUR PHONE BEGINS TO LOCK UP SO MUCH THAT EVEN A SOFT RESET DOESNT SOLVE THE ISSUE BUT FOR ANOTHER FEW HOURS IF THAT. ON THE MOST EXTREME LEVEL, SOME PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THEIR PHONE JUST SHUTTING DOWN AND THE WHOLE ENTIRE ROM REBOOTS ITSELF THUS FORMATTING YOUR PHONE, ERASING ALL OF YOUR CONTACTS, PROGRAMS, ETC.
Well please dont blame or consider the rom developer's anymore if you ever thought it was the Rom's fault, or even the pagepool...
But after all is said and done, my phone just lost EVERYTHING and reset itself, and I had well over 1700 messages that i really needed that had alot of important information in them! After calling HTC tech support, and even going to my MSDN buddies, i didnt find anything or any help that i didnt already know... So when i broke down and finally called T-Mobile Billing to see if they could recover in any way my messages from a server... and of course the representative said its not possible.... BUT THEN SHE SAID SOMETHING THATCOMPLETELY ANSWERS AND SOLVES THE PROBLEM OF THAT NEVER HAPPENING AGAIN!!!
For those of us who send and receive LOTS of text messages daily, weekly, monthly..... That is the problem with why our phones begin to bog down, and eventually cause us hair loss and mood changes... LOL... Depending on the model of your phone, and how much Ram it carries with it, the phones are built to AUTOMATICALLY RESET THEMSELVES, as a last resort when it begins to get overloaded with text messages... especially threaded sms, and mms... but the first symptoms of overload is gradual slowdown of how quick your phone either switches to another app, or rotates the screen, or even
keyboard response time... 75% of this is caused by your phone having too many messages stored on it! There's really nothing you can do to remedy this other than deleting half or more of your text messages when u notice this happening, or obtaining some kind of regular pc program which will allow you to sync and download all your messages to your PC and thus allowing u to delete them all from your phone, and free up the excess memory... Now I dont have any knowledge of such a program and i would really LOVE some suggestions if someone knows of such an application... But my point was to address and hopefully solve this ongoing question!...
Now the credits.... Her name is - Tonya P. - and she is now with T-Mobile Billing... but look for her to soon join us, because we talked for over an hour, and she definitely knows ALOT about HTC phones that some of us may benefit from! She used to specialize in HTC phones and was assigned at T-Mobile as a support tech for them...
OK hopefully this post will help some of you...

EDIT*******
Shortened.. but it must be explained in detail to address all the different problems which occur do to this feature...
and you can dispute it all you want fellows, but i have 10 friends who volunteered to help me test this by putting our
unlimited text messaging to the wall... Using mass SMS software, they were able to send me 1500 text messages to my HTC
8925 and that was the starting point for the phone just doing its own soft reset / for non responsiveness!....
At 1791 messages the phone shut down, and all of my customizations/contacts/programs/messages disappeared!! ... The
phone dropped to Athine OS Rom which was flashed before we started the test. But it was really a NAKED copy, which i
DID NOT flash to the phone.... and also i noticed that because of the HARD SPL... it was unable to fully format the phone so instead it just erased all my PERSONAL DATA / CUSTOMIZATIONS ... and the memory tab under settings said 116mb used ... but this has been tested and confirmed... I have no reason to make up a situation that will keep you from texting your heart out... I simply am trying to save some of you the EXTREME HASSLE that i am going through now, because i no longer have any of the information that was saved in my sms messages, and so i am about to lose $15,000 ... all because HTC never explained, or even warned that such a thing could happen!
So if its too long for you dont read it!... Im sure alot of people will thank me for going into so much detail so they could pinpoint exactly which scenario is/has occurred with their phone and can maybe prevent the disaster!

you lost me.
keep it short and sweet
Simple and short...
Delete you old text messages. The allegedly bog your phone down. I say allegedly as mine has over 1000 on there all threaded and it is still a zippy as the day I flashed it.
Psi
Yep, as above it appears (in short) that the poster is suggesting that text messages (and I guess MMS/email too) will start to fill up your storage memory, once the memory is full it may cause your Kaiser to hard reset itself.
...That sounds pretty scary. The worst I've ever had is a popup warning me that 'Storage Memory is Critically Low' - If I take action and clear out old messages/email it speeds up a bit, if I ignore it, applications freeze and the handset is unresponsive until soft-reset.
...Worth bearing a potential autonomous hard-reset in mind just in case though I guess...

Rob.

Application Lockout - Zune, Xbox Live

There seems to be a problem with some applications on my HD7, specifically the Zune and Xbox Live. Sometimes when I try to start them there is a short delay and then I'm dumped back to the Start menu. It happens several times a day and the only cure is to restart the phone.
Today things moved on a bit, as my bought apps fail to start and tell me I have an invalid license before uninstalling.
Can't say that I'm overly impressed with the software reliability thus far... shame really as I'm blown away by pretty much everything else about the HD7...
Sent from my Dell Streak using XDA App
I have the same .
1 random phone crash
2 apps kicking back to start nenu
3 the screen that is flickering (looks like the phone is beyond repair)
I hope we don't have to wait till and of January for some bug fixes , because this phone is actually not usable for every day for me .
Things went from bad to worse yesterday after I'd posted - I lost access to my purchased apps, couldn't download or re-download anything and my Windows Live ID was no longer recognised. Eventually a hard reset cleared all the problems and also seems to have put a stop to the problems I was having with applications failing to start... Fingers crossed its a permanent fix.
Was quite impressed with the responsiveness of the @WinPhoneSupport twitter account... got to give Microsoft credit for that...
I've just had a similar experience. Phone seemed to completely hang, none of the buttons worked, so took the battery out, replaced it and booted up. All was good, but now every single 3rd party app claims to have no license.
I really don't want to have to reset the phone - it's taken me weeks to get to this point. Has anything changed in the last couple of weeks, making it fixable without losing all my data?

let me know how the Hard Reset goes for you. Many apps keep putting me back to the home screen. The Harvest being the worst of the bunch. This is extremely frustrating as I have had nothing but high hopes for WP7, I've been thinking about cancelling my contract with Sprint for my EVO. If this continues it'll be back to my Nexsus One.
I'm really feeling let down by Microsoft.

Change all your passwords and remove fingerprint unlock (incase phone is opened while you sleep), should be enough, However there are spying apps out there, which I have no knowledge of, but this method could happen to all your phones...
The only real way to stop this happening again is by talking to your wife about this, why she feels the need to go through your phone, speaking from experience.
You could get 100 new phones, but it will just keep happening otherwise. If it is a trust issue, be compassionate, as to not inflame your situation. If she is a control freak, good luck...

You need to give more details bud. We are not mediums here.
Which version of the phone do you have? Where did you buy it? Rooted, non-rooted? What weird things, other than taking screenshots? How exactly do you understand that it is taking screenshots, does it give you a notification or do they just appear in the gallery? How often does it happen, is it random or does it also happen when you do certain tasks?
If you need help with such a potentially complicated issue, you need to give as many details as possible so people can help you without guessing everything.
On Android 9 and above it's almost impossible to have an embedded rootkit that a factory reset won't kill. On 8 and below it is.
So it's something you installed (including updates), or that's living in your data or one of the factory installed apps. Fun times

The best solution for this is to ODIN reset.

That's complete overkill. More than likely a factory reset is all that's needed... and greater care when downloading.
Pre-Pie OS's are susceptible to rootkits that can breached protected partitions but not the more modern Android versions if I remember correctly.
This is an example of one that requires a reflash to totally wipe it from the phone:

I disagree, tot overkill at all if its a persistent malware. Plus if you want peace of mind it is about as simple of a process as loading the factory ROM. Why take a risk?
OP hasn't checked into this thread after the initial message. Maybe the issue has been solved.

Be prepared and never sync all your backup copies at the same time, stagger the syncing to help avoid the possibility of all copies being compromised.
This unlikely but it's a wild, wild world.

When I typed that original post I was using the phone and the keyboard kept screwing up and I was exhausted. I have factory reset the phone. The strange things that were happening like when I'd hit my recent apps tab at the bottom, if open say Ebay app then Chrome. I'd hit the recent and it would show gallery and settings. Since the factory reset it has still been taking screenshots. I've only had this phone about 20 days and got it at bestbuy. It's over the 15 day period to just take it back but hadn't been incredibly long so I guess we will see what they say. I dont do alot of app downloading or visit a bunch of websites and so on so I have no clue how this happened. Here's the real kicker, this stuff is also happening on my wife's phone (a11) I am honestly thinking about throwing the a11 in the trash and trying to get this one replaced. It's so damn frustrating it's caused arguments because I'm the one who will spend time learning how to do stuff with this. Like how to use everything the phone is capable of and can look in the settings and see that the "tracking device" in the settings that can UNLOCK YOUR PHONE, ACCESS YOUR CONTACTS" is the find my phone app that you installed from Samsung. So of course I am a "hacker" and really know nothing about this crap. And she's the person who will download every survey and shopping app she can find. So this is where I am with it idk what else to do.

Try something bud, in the settings there is the palm swipe capture option. When you find it try and disable it and see if the issue persists. If your phone has no virus, it might have some issue with the gestures or the screen and it might be getting mistaken that you are trying to make a screenshot.
And regarding your wife, you gotta sit her down, smash on the table with your hand so you can get her attention for a bit, and show her some videos about security and the risks involved with ignorant behaviors in the digital world.
Good luck.

I have the palm swipe off. She reset hers and says it's still doing "weird stuff" but this has been such an extreme issue with us that I can't and won't touch her phone. Because even with her sitting there watching me if I'm going through **** too fast for her to see exactly what's happening it's like I'm asked to slow down and I try to... Then she's will be like well what's this and start touching **** on the screen and u lost where I was in the first place because I then have to explain something that was just there.. Like if I'm in running processes and it's like WHATS THAT. And it will be a system operation that she read somewhere is "a concern for vulnerability" and doesn't understand that it doesn't mean that because that's there that it's a problem.. It's there normally and it is possible that's a way for security to be compromised.. Hopefully you can see the pattern I'm going in..... I am pretty good with this stuff for a power user. I know what oden is.. I know what a ROM is and stuff but I have never actually loaded my own ROM on a phone. And the fact that I sort of understand some of this is working to a huge disadvantage because it's like.. Well you know how to do this stuff so no wonder she's concerned.. When in fact I don't know how to do this stuff.. I made (foolishly) the comment when I was showing a process used by find my phone to her and my sister... The fact that I just showed you this process running that your asking me about you're just viewing it in a different place shows that if I wanted to track you I'd do it and you'd be too stupid to ever find out... And it was just frustration.. I meant Id just look at your Google history or something along that mannor.. Anyways I'm gonna be heading to bestbuy to see what they say.. As far as her phone is concerned I'd rather just spend the 200 bucks and throw it in the trash. I can't do that with the s21 so this is where I am with all this. I wad actually told by my family not to worry about it.. So what if someone steals your bank info it will be fraud and you won't be responsible for it anyway.. So just forget about it and use it....and here I am
This isn't rocket science... or a soap opera
Do a factory reset then change your Google account password.
Don't load anything until it's verified to be functioning ok*.
Then be careful what you load.
*If that fails reflash the firmware.

I am ready to do this if needed. I know this isn't a major thing to do but I've never actually done it and don't know where to get my factory ROM for this on my carrier and all of that good stuff. And do I need a computer to do this with oden or can that be done completely on the phone. I am not worried about anything on here I CA. Question S21ultra camera issue and reboot

I'm having random restarts with the s21 ultra, seems the phone is having an error in the background and restarts to avoid freezing or something.
I checked all the auto-restart options are off. The restarts really happen randomly, sometimes im watching a youtube video, sometimes chatting on whatsapp, and it happens almost once/twice a week.
But what i noticed lately, mostly its when an app is using the camera. Sometimes i try to launch the stock camera app and it doesn't launch (writes a quick note that its unable or something) and the phone reboots.
Any solution of what to do? I keep entering the members app after the phone restarted and send the crash log to Samsung but until now I have the same problem and no fix.
Its really unacceptable, i have paid alot for this phone, i got the 512GB with 16GB ram and in the end the phone crashes when opening the stock camera app. Really will never buy Samsung ever again
First, you need to track down the source of the problem.
I wouldn't even let WhatsApp run on my phone... it's nothing but trouble.
Try clearing the system cache.
Clear cam data.
Because it's rebooting you can't see what was running/cache last.
This is abnormal behavior and may indicate malware.
Look at 3rd party apps you have installed for starters.

If it hadn't rebooted it would show as a running or cache app in Device Care or Developer options.
After reboot that's all cleared pretty sure the cache is too but you can double check.

I would try to get the device replaced by Samsung as soon as possible if I had the option rather than trying to troubleshoot it. This is abnormal behaviour, maybe software, maybe hardware but if I can get the device replaced, I'd choose that as the first option.
I had a similar issue with my brand new HTC Desire S (ages ago) and foolishly tried to solve the problem by trying software hacks, almost tripped the security flag and missed the DOA claim window trying to sort it out myself. Fortunately came to my senses and took it to the service centre and got a replacement on the same day.
If that's not an option for you, then we can all huddle together here and try to figure this out.
And by the way, don't hate on Samsung because your device isn't performing well. Sometimes this happens with complex electronic devices. That's what the warranty is for. If they don't honour the warranty, then we can all swear at them with abandon. Calm down and contact the service centre.
Be mad at Samsung for many things. Not this. Their QA isn't that bad and also head-to-head with Apple's, statistically speaking. Wait till you see what Pixels have been doing, LOL.

It may be hardware or firmware. Or completely self inflicted.
If you can return it, I would do so.
When buying an Android always go for one with an SD card slot; use it as the data drive and the OS/apps go on the internal memory. Makes life and reloads much easier... and faster.
I always build my computers with data drives, even did it with my laptop. Among other things it helps to protect your data. In almost all OS crash and burns, the data drives remain intact. Nonetheless you back up the data drives to at least 2 hdds that are physically and electronically isolated from each other.

I am not really sure what their warranty policy in KSA is. Will go to them in person and check what they will offer after making a backup of my data. But I expect they do not allow to get replacement (i have the device since about 4 months now) but this problem was not happening the first 2-3 months. But i haven't installed a single new application (so we cant say it may be a new 3rd party app)

Instead *****in you need to track it down...

I do not have many 3rd party apps for starters (less than 20) and i have the same exact apps on my other honor 10 phone which dont have this problem at all, so i believe its not from a 3rd party app.
Clearing cache and cam data are the first things ive done, and the same issue reoccurs.
Im posting this not for *****in but for users to give me ideas of what to do since im frustrated and i have done all the 'quick fixes' i could think of with no success.
If there is a way i can view the crash log, then that might be helpful...

Only way to be certain is to ask them I guess.
Do you get the standard 1 year warranty in KSA? Or is it different?
I don't think there is any harm in asking. if they can diagnose the issue, they may be able to repair it at least, if not give you a replacement.

We get 24 months warranty by samsung here, but I am not sure if they allow replacements in their warranty. I've had previous bad experience where they kept trying to 'repair' the device and same problem came again (long time ago- over 5 years so maybe things have changed).

Wow! That's double the warranty coverage offered to us here in India.
If you think it's a software issue, and don't think Samsung will be of much help, then start with a factory reset. If that doesnt solve it, clean flash fresh firmware. If still no joy, then mostly it's going to be a hardware issue. Whatever you do, don't root or trip the e-fuse in any way if you want to have any hopes of claiming warranty in the future.
Hey
I also had this problem.. My phone would keep restarting while watching any type of video and/or using any app that used the camera. The phone screen would almost become "glitchy" with green lines and restart.
I even had an official Samsung partner come repair my phone at my home. He replaced the motherboard and the battery, but sadly this didn't fix the problem.
Lucky I was still within my 14 days with my phone network to get it replaced.
