Question Watch not activating data plan - Samsung Galaxy Watch 5

Hi. I've just received a galaxy watch 5. It's connecting via Bluetooth to my phone (Vivo X80 Pro) but when I try to set up the mobile connectivity it's telling me "EE doesn't offer mobile plans for your watch"
Obviously it does as I bought it from EE with a mobile plan.
Does anybody know why it won't connect?

Contact your mobile carrier and let them know. They need to enter your watch's IMEI # to their system.

Did that. They said it won't work without a Samsung phone (I don't believe that) and my only options were to a) buy a Samsung phone or b) pay £20 a month for a watch that I can only connect via Bluetooth.
I told them they can have the watch back.

I had a GW4 lte on s standalone plan from Verizon. I bought a GW5 pro lte to replace the GW4. Verizon was unable to connect my GW5 to the same line I had or even a new line. 7 hours on the phone with numerous reps and 3 tier two techs produced nothing. The last tier two tech I spoke to said the watch was faulty and I should return it to Samsung. I was livid. I got online, went to Mint mobile ran my z fold 3 IMEI to generate the qr code and connected my GW5 with that qr code. 10 minutes and it was done. It's a standalone plan $15 per month, I know there are cheaper plans but I don't care. My watch activated and works flawlessly.

I got it working after what must be hours of work.
I borrowed a Samsung A41 from a friend and connected the watch to that to activate the eSIM plan with EE.
I reset the watch to pair again with my Vivo phone. The phone wouldn't see the watch to pair. Brilliant.
I dug out my old phone (Realme 8 Pro), set it up and tested to see if that would pair with the watch; it worked fine.
So my initial issue of my Vivo phone pairing with the phone but not allowing the eSIM activation has now progressed to me having what could be a fully working watch, but with a phone that can't see it.
I decided as a last shot, I would try some reverse psychology.
I connected the watch back to the Galaxy A41. All good so far.
With the watch working, I then connected the watch via the watch's Bluetooth menu to my Vivo phone. It paired successfully.
The Wear app on my Vivo then saw it, but couldn't set it up (assuming as it's already set up on the Galaxy).
I reset the watch again but left the Wear app on my Vivo with the watch visible in the "pick your device" screen.
It worked, including the mobile plan. All good. What a fecking nightmare.

[Q] Tethering?.. (Verizon)

So I just upgraded to a Lumia 928 (my first WP) but because of pricing reasons and other contracts am still on a Nationwide Talk & Text plan, I am however now limited (tiered data). Now Verizon still wants to charge me for this feature despite the whole MCI v. FCC. 515 F 2d 385 (D.C. Circ 1974) thing where blocking or restricting apps on the C block is illegal and they can't charge extra for tethering (7/31/12). I've filed a 2000B form complaint with the FCC but I'm wondering if there is any current way to tether for free; I do have a developer account through dreamspark so even just a xap or sln file would work. Otherwise realistically, will the FCC do anything? This does (or at least can dependant on local radio towers) operate on the 700 band so the C Block rules should apply.
Is there any way to tether on WP8 for free?
(Again illegally imposed restriction on a tiered data plan)
Wired tethering is possible on Samsung devices, and may bypass the carrier check, but it's not (so far as I know) avaialable on Nokia phones yet. Other than that, there's no such option that I'm aware of.
I haven't read the court decision in detail, but my recollection was that it still allowed charging for tethering, just that they couldn't block it. This may be mistaken on my part, though. Frankly, I have no love for Verizon at all - they nickel and dime customers to death, they use the travel-incompatible CDMA technology, they don't offer incentives to bring your own phone (they barely support it at all), and their early temination fees are steep.

Thanks,
I haven't read the specifics other than the press release
In addition, the company recently revised its service offerings such that consumers on usage-based pricing plans may tether, using any application, without paying an additional fee.

so I thought that would include the built in internet sharing app
Frankly it's incredibly unclear and sucks
due to the way employee discounts are applied it's cheaper to have 5 smartphones @ 2gb each vs 10gb of shared with 5 smartphones even though the plan price works out to be the same
If you are on a tiered plan, you have free tethering included. I have used it several times myself (Lumia 928)
* settings/internet sharing

I thought that was the case but it is not
Just took some screenshots
this is what I get when I click through
turn on
Add internet sharing
yes -> call to subscribe
no -> just goes back to turn on option
Then you don't have a tiered plan. Mine works fine, I use it several times a week.
Hello, i bought a Nokia Lumia 928 on ebay from the states. I live in Sweden. and shure enough, i should have googled the phone a bit more before i bought it.
I have fixed to of my biggest problems with this phone.
Number 1. audio dropouts / call sound problems, speaker problems / no sound
If you go in to audio settings and you are able to change equalizer without having earphones plugged in, its the 3,5mm speaker jack that is the problem.
If you want to fix it yourself just search YouTube for Lumia 928 disassembly.
My quick fix is somewhat risky but I had to do it because my t5 torx in the speaker jack is busted.
I removed the screw in the simtray hole, unclipped the shell where the micro USB is, then went around the 3,5mm jack, down on the long side beside it, just few centimeters below, bended it out, this is hard, this way the 3,5mm connectors moves free from connector cable, blow in the crack and 3,5mm hole to get out dust, then press the phone together again and restart, I have had to do this twice. Buy a dustcap for 3,5mm jack..

2. lumia 928 Tethering, wifi hotspot, internet sharing
I was not able to use this due to verizons lockdown, i was just kicked out when i tried to activate it. But i updated to GDR3 and installed Nokia Access point and edited my apn settings in that app. (I already did it in the regular phone settings but it did not help)

http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/access-point/ce3895c7-01d0-4daf-a4c3-25c10463942d
And for some reason, when i did these two steps, i can now active internet sharing, i guess the Nokia access point app did something different, because i could not activate internet sharing before this.
When you have installed Nokia access point, you will find it under settings / access point

Possible modem failure.T-mobile was not immediately helpful

Much to my dismay, I think device is dead, bit I was more wondering if anybody else has run into this at all. To preface I'm currently traveling in Europe, phone worked fine from the 17th of October. I have the International Data and every thing was peachy till last night when it stopped associating to the cellular network. I had been using wifi calling to home till I started getting the red wifi calling icon saying invalid sim. I started looking at settings and noticed APN settings we gone and it couldn't search for networks.
I tried restarting, puling sim, then I tried a factory wipe, ultimately culminating in the pictures attached below. I also attached a picture of the bootloader for added info.
I called into T-mobile, 5 representatives and an hour and a half later was told that the only way that I was going to get a replacement is to go return it to the store where I processed my pre-order, and that needs to be done within 14 days. I'm going to try today to see if Samsung can do anything for me, but this seems more of a hardware failure that should be covered by the manufactured warranty.
I do have JUMP but I don't feel I should have to pay the deductible for this.
:TLDR:
I've not rooted, flashed or other wise modded my phone, anybody else run into this?

If you traveling I think phone needs an unlock code and a different Sim card. WiFi calling probably just updated it self and kicked you off.

You don't need a new sim to travel with. I've used my sim and carrier many times in UK and Germany with out issue, you just get to pay a premium for roaming.
If I wanted to use a local carrier and then the local rates, then I need to be unlocked and then a local carriers sim.

[Q] Why is my Gear S not able to register on TMobile's network anymore?

My wife bought me the international version of the Samsung Gear S (SM-R750W). She said that she researched and from her understanding it should work on the T mobile network. From what I've found though the consensus seemed to be it would not work, or if it did it would be spotty at best depending on the specific towers/area you were in because Tmobile utilizes different network types in different areas.
I decide to give it a shot anyway and went to the T-Mobile store where I signed up for the wearable plan and got a new nano sim card. I was crossing my fingers but as soon as they put the sim card in the watch it came to life. It looked to be working fine but as I left the store I received a text from T-Mobile stating " the SIM for your wearable devices is in an ineligible device. Services to the SIM are locked until it returned to your eligible wearable device".
I pessimistically started thinking well great, there goes that idea. But as I got into my vehicle I shut my phone down and tried to see if the watch can work on its own as a phone when unencumbered from my Note 4 bluetooth/WiFi data connections. It worked perfectly-I started calling my friends and they couldn't believe I was talking on a watch phone. Several I actually felt the call sound quality was better on the watch speaker phone compared to normally speaking on the Note 4. I called customer service but they told me they couldn't see anything and if it was working fine not to worry about it.
For the next eight or 9 hours it worked perfectly and I was using it a lot. I drove around large swaths of town and neither data nor call experienced even the slightest issue - for once I was happy to be wrong.
Eventually, as I am oft to do, I fell asleep. When I awoke this morning the watch was no longer connected to the network. It gave me a message saying it was unable to connect and did I want to scan for additional networks. I selected yes and it was able to find the T-Mobile and ATT networks. T-Mobile was selected and a "registering" notification was displayed. It took awhile but eventually said it was unable to register with the network.
I call T-Mobile and they said pretty much exactly what I expected them to say -that because it was not a T mobile device they could not ensure proper operation. But he said (and he characterized this as "good news", "light at the end of a tunnel" and "viable solution” Seriously said all 3 things.) I could either forget all about the cellular connection and just use this as a companion device OR go and buy a new Gear S from T Mobile if I really wanted that feature.
I’m truly and utterly baffled that he believed his suggestions merited the positive sayings from above. Never in my lifetime has my head been closer to exploding.
After I was finally able to speak again, I explained that it seemed unlikely to be an issue with the watch. If my Gear S was working perfectly yesterday and can still detect Tmobile & ATT networks, then something on your end seems to be preventing registration. He agree to file a ticket with the engineering team and tomorrow I should hear from them hopefully. He also told me to go and try another nano-SIM, gratis, at the Tmobile store. So today I went and as soon as I put the new card in all systems were go. I assumed that I somehow had received a bad card because here again now, data and voice are connected.
This time I didn’t even make it out of the parking lot before it notified me that that it was again unable to register with the network. There is conflicting information regarding the radio frequencies and bands that the different Gear S models have and I didn’t have high hopes. But then it actually did work, WELL, so any ideas as to what is going wrong?
I don't know how I put this in the wrong forum, could one of the mods please delete it? It's already been reposted in the correct forum.

Don't bother calling verizon to get your Samsung Watch 3 connected

I got my Watch 3 LTE directly from samsung. I went to the Verizon website, called support, went into a store.....no one could help me. They couldn't figure out why the watch didn't have the CCIDS number or something or other.
I tried to do the QR Code from the Gear app but it never really worked for me. I had to hit Next there, took me to the verizon site. it ended up setting up a new number for the watch with Verizon and paired that number to my phone, so everything will be fine.
I will have to cancel my old number on my old watch, but whatever.
I got mine from Verizon directly it wouldn't activate so i did an online chat with them and after a few minutes and sending my IMEI they sent me a email with the QR code. once i scanned the QR code i was good to go after setup finished. coming from Samsung shouldn't block you from activating
It was fairly easy to do it directly on my watch., but you have to select "continue" when it asks for a QR Code that you don't have. Or something like that.
But you do have to call to disconnect it, which I did after discovering service was $17 per month (including taxes and fees)! Something I may do for a week here or there as needed. Wish VZW made it easier to temporarily activate it. After all these years, this might force me to take a look at Sprint, AT&T And T-Mo.

No Texting In Standalone Mode

Galaxy Watch 3 LTE - Sprint
As the title says, I can't send or receive texts in standalone mode. I can send & receive calls, use data, but no texts. They only work when connected to Bluetooth. Anyone else have this issue or know of a solution?
Hi, I have the same problem, I had to create a program to be able to send sms on standalone, but i keep working to receive it , but actually I am learning how to add the TAPI libraries to tizen Developer so i can create this program , but this it will be my second program on tizen Platform and i am lost by now... anyway i think its clear its a bug on message service program on the watch. Anybody could guide me how to develop a program to use the tapi library on tizen developer or another way to create the package?
Thanks!!
I think you have the Usa variant as you are on sprint
here with the F variant in Europe the providers set up the watch to communicate with the linked phone via data ....
to make it work stand alone i pretty much had to load the earliest firmware i coulc find ... boot unlinked to a phone in stand alone mods...after a full reset ....then load an esim from a different provider...and then i got a watch that ran stand alone calls and texts....
but i pretty much had to break the thing to do it
the reason the providers do this is not because the watch cant do stand alone but because they want you to buy a samsung phone on a contract ...and a watch on a data contract ....and not just a watch on stand alone with a pay as you go esim....
