Google Pixel 4/XL 256GB & Snapdragon 855+ 5G model options would be fantastic!
128GB option has been around since Pixel 1 it's time for more memory options please....
Apple has 512GB models available and Samsung has 1TB models +MicroSD 512GB on top so yeah Google it's time for 256GB+ memory options!
And use the fastest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+
Anyone here anything on either?
128GB, 855 or 855+ and at least 6GB RAM would be an easy buy

It's Pixel, so be logical.
So, think of:
- Soli radar chip(surely)with unmatched gestures.(Hoping with assurance).
- 64GB, 128 GB storage. UFS 2.1, UFS 3.0 if we are super lucky.
- 6 GB RAM, LPDDR4.
- SD 855, not 855+.
- Triple camera setup with outstanding performance.
- No eye catchy design, but would be acceptable.
- Less than ideal battery size. (also, not to forget Soli will occupy space).
- Acceptable size and weight unlike many, many other.
- QHD+ resolution.
- 90Hz refresh rate(might he 60 too, if at all it becomes 90, it'll further dent on batterylife, and NO, battery size won't be bigger just for the sake of it).
- Some software bugs right outta box.
- Average charging speed, with about 18W.
- Weirdest naming for all colors.
- Outrageous pricing in some countries.
........etc.

You're specs feel very on the light side.... Would be OK if you're talking about Google Pixel 4a would make sense!
So same storage for 4 years in a row.... Same old 18w charging for 4 years in a row.... Very sad...... No reason not to have an 256GB option and have 45w charging technology late 2019.
Updated Snapdragon 855+ should be minimal on Pixel 4/XL as they did with Pixel 1 used the updated Snapdragon 821 must remind you.
I personally you want less specs then you should wait for Pixel 4a..... That's the hole point of the 4a series.

I'm not "expecting" less, I'm talking about what Google does historically. Hardware specs-wise, it's better to keep expectation "little low" - is my whole point and I'm talking 'bout pixel 4/4XL only.
Yeah, never go short on Google's ability to find a way to underwhelm.

Pretty much all of the specs have been confirmed. The Pixel 4 XL will have a 3700mAh battery. The Pixel 4 will have a 2800mAh battery. Both will have a 90hz screen screen so basically crappy battery life. There will only be two cameras. The regular and a telephoto. Both are going to be very big. Even the "small" one will be huge. But that's typical these days.
I haven't seen any info on storage type.

Yeah, between soli and the 90hz, the battery should've been a bit bigger. But if it gets through a day, that's all that matters to me. I'm more interested in knowing if it will have UFS 3.0. Internal storage is a thing of the past, thanks to cloud services, so 128gb will be enough for me.
At one point back in the Nexus days I recall Google had the position that 4 hours of screen on was enough for almost all to get through the day and virtually everyone charged daily no matter what level of charge remained. That was then their target goal and probably still is based on their continued arrival at around that level. For me that really is enough charge and yes I do charge every day even with phones that will go longer since it's convenient to charge overnight. I'm a lot more worried about it reopening apps that shouldn't have been dropped out of memory due to lack of the same and GUI redraws when going to the main menu, that sort of thing.
They had also been working on a tech that allowed on the fly refresh rate changes. This would allow for the phone to go to 90 when you wake it up in front of an expected flick through the GUI, while playing a game, etc. The rest of the time when the phone is steady state such as watching a video it can drop back down to 60 to save battery. I'm in no way am saying that this tech is in the upcoming Pix as I've read nothing of the kind. Just saying I know they were working on dynamic refresh and to me that opens up the possibility that it could be in play on this phone until we learn otherwise.
This seems to be the Pixel 4 or 4XL with a new "leaked video".
Yep, they have found reference to the 90 hz refresh in 10 (Q) that specifically points to this device. Also that the refresh is dynamic as I described above; it seems it will have an indicator that tells you what refresh is active and in developer options there will be (could be) some controls for it.
I'm so getting this phone, it's about as done as a deal can get.

A 3700mAh battery is too small even for a phone without Soli and just a 60hz screen. With Soli and a 90hz screen the battery doesn't need to be "a bit bigger" it needs to be MUCH bigger. Like 20% bigger. The Pixel 4 XL really needs a 4500mAh battery.
Getting through a day depends on what you are doing. My Pixel 2 XL, even when it was new, struggled to get through a full day on heavy use days (about 20% of my usage). With a 90hz screen and the Soli chip with a battery that is only 5% bigger than the Pixel 2 XL the battery life of the Pixel 4 XL will likely be worse than the battery life of the Pixel 2 XL which already wasn't great.

Well, I work, so it's not like I would be sitting in an emo lounge or something, staring at my phone. And I plan on getting the wireless dock for next to my bed. So it will sit on that at home. If I can get 4-5 hrs in-between that, I'm good. I'm more of an idle kind of person, not so concerned about screen on time, as a charger usually isn't far away if needed. But, I agree with what you're saying about the tech. I've been having the same concern, myself. Also, the facial ID will probably hit the battery a bit as well.

I actually mostly agree with you. I'm in the same position as you about 80-90% of the time. At work I don't have time to constantly be on my phone even if I wanted to and I have a charger at my desk. Battery life isn't a problem in that case.
It's the other 10-20% of the time that's the problem. In that other 10-20% of the time I could be using my phone heavily taking pictures/video, playing music over Bluetooth, using LTE all day, having to make the screen brighter when outside, using location, watching video, long phone calls, etc. Pretty much any phone can handle the 80% easily. I want a phone with battery life that can hold up to that other 10-20% of usage. And be able to still do it well after a year of owning the phone. Very few phones (if any) can really handle that 10-20% of my usage.
Also, I don't know if you've ever had a phone with wireless charging before but my advice is to avoid it. It's terrible for the battery. Just my advice based on my own research and personal experience.
You can manually force to 60 hz if the leaks prove correct and I'd be surprised if Soli couldn't be disabled but haven't seen anything on it yet. I think it's a little early to worry about battery being worse than the previous Pixels because of them.
I know the phone is not out yet but I want to know what everyone thinks of the rumored battery size of the new P4 XL with 3700mAh and a 90Hz screen.
Looking at how well the P3 3aXL did in the battery tests with 3700mAh with a older CPU do you think the P4 will do better with SD 855, I heard this CPU will be slightly down clocked and Google being Google, well optimized with their OS.
What are your thoughts?

It is mentioned everywhere online
It can be reduced to 60 at your whim; not a good answer if you want to have your cake but it is good to know. Realistically Google has been shooting for various performance goals for years and is on record as saying 4 hours screen time is enough for the average user. This gibes well with what people actually get with their devices and I would expect somewhere in that ballpark depending on how you use your device.
No mention of the battery during the launch event, suggesting that while slightly larger, there's no significant improvement. Big downside for me.

Definitely is, instead of the camera bump at the back, I would of happily taken a bigger battery and have a flat back of the phone.
I'd like to believe that google has further optimized their software. Even with dynamic refresh rates, the battery on the regular 4 is shockingly small. That's the only logic I can make from that decision. I have a feeling that if google doesnt nail this one, it could spell the end for their mobile branch, simply for that fact.
If the XL had dual sim and min. 4000mah I would get this phone for sure but I think I will skip this one.

The Pixel 4 will have dual SIMs. One is a physical SIM and one is an eSIM and the phone will support DSDA which means both SIMs can be active at the same time.
Carrier support for eSIM is another topic. Some carriers are not supporting them yet, some only on select devices, and others fully support them. So be sure the check your carrier's policies before assuming it will work.
The early word from Youtubers seems to be the XL battery is not terrible, MB for instance said it seemed ok but it was too early to quantify it yet.. As to dual SIM they already have a working DSDS configuration on the 3a which I have and can attest to being legit as I'm a dual SIM user. It's hard to imagine it wouldn't work on the 4 series.
I'm reviewing the smaller Pixel 4 so I'll let you know how it fares once the review embargo has lifted. As for DSDS, yes it does support it.
I'm hearing a rumor that on twitter, people are saying it's not a "true" 90hz display, but rather an OC'd 60hz. Not really sure what that means, but it makes sense if you want it to be dynamic. I don't really follow twitter, so maybe someone else in here has seen this and can elaborate. Idc what they call it, personally. As long as it works
The screen seems to be the one thing Youtubers are happy about; otherwise overall they are critical of the lacking hardware and some of the design choices. I'm sure you've all seen some of those so you know what I'm talking about. The screen however seems to be getting accolades across the board so however they're doing it the effect has been positive.
I'm not well read on screen refresh rates from a hardware perspective, is there a reason to care whether it's a 90 hz being downclocked or a 60 hz being OCed?

Exactly. They seem to be concentrating on soli, right now. I haven't heard anything bad about the screen either. Probably just some haters. Not really sure how it works either. That is one side of tech i no nothing about, as far as implementation. This is only an assumption, but I would think that having an OC'd 60 makes more sense, only allowing it to boost when necessary. Rather than a 90hz, constantly downclocked and only returning to it's natural rate when needed. But this is all just spitballin. Either case, I am still looking forward to it, not gonna let the haters get me down
Pixel phones always work better than expected in the day to day. I recall not too long ago seeing video where the guy from unboxed hardware was in a suite in Vegas with a number of other prominent Youtubers and in the video he asked them to pull out and show the phone they used personally, Pixel tied the iphone with few others phones coming out of pockets. When you think about the reception for the 3XL and it's notch and all the other complaints people who have tried everything and could us anything were putting that phone in their pocket over others. For my own purposes I'm pretty sure this one is just going to continue being the phone that shouldn't be as good as it is but somehow the whole will prove greater than the sum of it's parts just like the Pixels before it.

I didn’t own one myself however I’ve heard many saying their pixel 3 had issues with not enough memory etc... MKBHD is one of them and he is a pixel lover. Ive seen many youtubers say it so I’ll take their word for it.

No question on the memory, both Pixel variants suffered from redrawns and apps had/have to be reloaded that should have been in memory fairly often. If there was any question that 4 gigs is no longer enough the P3's answered it fairly well. They did not however slow down. Brownlee BTW was one of the young millionaires in that suite in Vegas and he was one of the people carrying a Pixel 3. Evidently he also found it to be more than the sum of it's parts.
The battery life is going to suck. I have a Pixel 2 XL and even brand new the battery life wasn't very good. Compared to the Pixel 2 XL the Pixel 4 XL has a 5% bigger screen, 5% more pixels, face unlock hardware, a radar sensor and 6GB RAM which will all cause the Pixel 4 XL to use more battery but the battery is only 5% bigger. That means worse battery life. And that's with the refresh rate set to 60hz. With the refresh rate set to 90hz the battery life will be much worse than the Pixel 2 XL which, again, wasn't very good.

I want better than "not terrible". Even at 60hz 3700mAh is too small. If it allowed setting the resolution to 1080p then 3700mAh would probably be ok. As it is the battery life will be a little worse than the Pixel 2 XL in 60hz mode and much worse in 90hz mode.

I hope the screen is more like the Pixel 2 XL in terms of color saturation but without the other minor issues of the Pixel 2 XL screen.
I have a Pixel 3 XL. Should I upgrade to the 4 XL? I love my phone, don't really care about the 90hz display, don't care about soli or face unlock. I do like the lack of the notch but my real reason would be the battery life. Has anyone went from the 3 XL to the 4 XL and noticed an improvement in battery? I know opinions are subjective but do the 200Mah increase in battery and new processer make a good impact on battery life? Any opinions or insight are greatly appreciated!

I did, but only because after one year, I got a REALLY good trade value for the 3XL and the 4XL was $200 off. (do not trade-in at Google) For about the first week I had it, I was jonesing for my old fingerprint sensor. Then face unlock got really good. Eerily good, like if I look at my phone on the stand or even laying flat on my desk, it unlocks. Screen is absolutely gorgeous and sharp as a tack. As for battery, I think the 4 is slightly better. With the 3 after 12 hours at work, I would be down to 20% on average, sometimes less. With the 4 that is now averaging mid-30's. Scientific.... no, but after using the 4 for 4 solid months it is never as low as the 3.. Could be the 3 was a year old... could be my 4 had 106% batttery capacity (Accubattery) when I bought it, but on measure it feels a bit. Should boil down to money. If you can sell your 3 and get a $200 deal or better off the 4 then go for it. If you are looking to just trade into Google and get boned on price, then I would wait for deep discounts when the 4a's arrive. Hope this helps.

Extremely helpful, thank you!
I get better on the 4XL but it's not a big difference. In both cases turning off AOD added 30ish minutes of screen; they really need to improve on that. I otherwise have everything on both now and then and end up around 4 to 5 hours on an average day of mixed use which is about 30 more than before with the 3XL. For me this is good enough since phones charge so quickly nowadays and I'm usually by an outlet and otherwise have a 10k brick in my messenger bag when I'm going to be flying and that sort of thing. Not that I wouldn't take more but I can work with what that.

I saw on YouTube pixel 4 xl last about 6-7 hours of screen on time!! Mixed use of mobile data and wifi.
Adaptive brightness!! I
Is it fake?
I had pixel 2 xl but unfortunately the touch screen stopped working.
I am considering buying pixel 4 xl or S20
But I am afraid not liking the camera of s20

You can get screen on of 10 hours or screen on of 2 hours, it's entirely based upon your usage which no one else will be able to match
If you can wait for Pixel 4a - Pixel 5 or take it now its helf price [emoji1750]

I upgraded from the 3XL and never regretted it. It's the last Google flagship for a while at least, so if you find a good deal, go for it! Battery is slightly better, but the overall experience is way better in my opinion, although these things are very subjective.
PS: You don't have to put up with the notch by the way. Use the settings in Developer Options to cover it.

I've no idea if that is true or not; people have lots of different usage cases and will get different screen times. I tend to run at the bottom of the pack with every phone I own, I like to use my toys so I don't turn much of anything off and have a smartwatch and other devices constantly in use. It isn't really surprising that I dont do as well as the ordinary owner.
I've got to agree with the fellow above though, the 4XL is significantly better in use. It isn't any one thing I'd point at, everything is a little step better. If the phone had been released at mid range pricing to match it's rather modest spec it would have been the hottest phone of 19 and had rave reviews.
Greetings to Pixel 5a owners from Ukraine!!
I was a happy Pixel 4a owner for some time, but battery life upset me. The battery replacement didn't help, so I switched to a mid-range Realme.
I am missing the Pixel experience and looking forward to rejoining the Pixel family. Pixels have never officially sold in my country, and since the war started, it's become even harder to find one on sale.
Luckily, the local retailer has brand-new Pixel 6 and Pixel 5a for a reasonable price (~$600 and ~$400 with taxes included), especially considering how our local currency is losing its value each day. I'm choosing between these two models.
Would you say it's safe to buy a Pixel 5a right now? I am excited about its battery life; at the same time, it's not that large and heavy. However, I'm a bit concerned that it has only 6 GB of RAM, and the Snapdragon processor might be not too future-proof, as Google might save some features for their Tensor-based models. What do you think?
Best,
Andrii

Currently I only use my 5a and 6 for testing.
Between the two, I prefer the 5a and plan on switching to it as my daily use phone.
I am still using (and like) my 3a as my daily-use phone.
The 5a is very close in size and style.
Between the camera style and positioning, a dedicated fingerprint sensor, ..
Might be why I prefer the 5a.
Cheers.
Forgot to add - both 6 and 5a are Japanese versions. I have found that the shutter sound can't be disabled; maybe you know any other issues or differences?

thanks for sharing your experience! very helpful!!
As I stated in your Pixel 5 thread, I believe you can still get the 5a new. Here are the main differences between the 5 and 5a:
Screen size: 5a is bigger but only 60Hz, 5 is 90Hz
Battery capacity: 5 has 4080MaH, 5a 4680
RAM: 5 has 8GB, 5a has 6GB
Wireless charging: 5a doesn't have it
They both use the same SoC (Snapdragon 765G), same GPU, and same modem.
There are some additional minor differences - the 5 has Gorilla Glass 6, vs the 5a only uses Gorilla Glass 3. Negligible with a screen protector. 5 is IP68, 5a is IP67.

Thanks, buddy, for kindly sharing your feedback in both threads.
I am planning to purchase a new device this week and was trying to get as much feedback as possible within an extremely short period of time.
Initially, I thought about P5 vs. P5A vs. P6.
Only used P5 are in stock, so its battery life is likely even worse than the new P5A and P6. So now, I'm choosing between the latter two.

TBH I haven't handled the P6, but with the physical design and the problems many have had with the new hardware, I'd say stick with the P5a. I doubt the 2GB of RAM will make much difference for you. My wife uses hers pretty heavily for playing games and she's never had an issue with sluggishness.
If you want to be able to root, make sure you buy an unbranded Google device.

What do you mean under "unbranded"?
I saw devices sold in open boxes, and their screens are covered by a protective film like on new phones—the semi-transparent on the P5A and the solid white on P6.
I assume they might be the refurbished units. Is there any way to check it?
upd: ##786# and *#*#786#*#* do not work either on my P4A or other phones, and I assume, on P5A and P6 won't work as well

Don't get a carrier branded device. But since you're in the Ukraine, I'm not sure this would be of any concern.

Hello, I also from Ukraine, I bought my 5a 2 month ago in stylus. Everything works fine. It's not Japan it's US model.
Thanks, @ipdev, @V0latyle, @[email protected], for your feedback
Today I placed my order for the P5A (US version), and I look forward to receiving it next week! Should I check something when in-store? I'm not confident about the seller, so it's better to find out issues before paying.
The idea was: Everything works for me in my P4A, except its battery drains too fast. P5A is similar to P4A but with excellent battery life. Snapdragon SoC, 60Hz screen, and rear-mounted fingerprint are more pros to me than cons.
Bad thing with this phone is how easily overheats during warm summer days while taking pictures or having video call and gps turned on. Google really made cheapest phone they could.
Also idiots from google didn't enable VoLTE like normal company but they locked it so only "certified" carriers have it. This is my first and last pixel phone.
Battery is great, cameras are standard Google reliable and good.
Clean Android with regular updates is also good and everything just works.

I am hesitant to do that since I risk lossing banking apps and payments that use nfc. Google is trying hard to disable hiding of unlocked bootloader...idiots.
Only ROM that for now works is pixel experience and rooting will again cause issues with banking and payment apps.
I don't know, magisk is hiding it perfectly
Thinking of buying it for 2023, but it was released only in like 3-4 countries so the communites for ROMs and other development could be far stronger. Rule#1 when future-proofing through custom ROMs: Make sure the phone is widely available.

I'd personally say stay away. The overheating issue isn't *terrible* if you're not a frequent user of video chat, but when you do need it, your phone is going to overheat and your radios shut off. I was trying to use a telehealth visit with my doctor for a recent diagnosis using 5G on Visible, and it keep shutting off the radio and freezing the phone. I had to use my wife's iPhone instead. The doctor couldn't even call my phone because it was locked up for 5 minutes.
I'm on my 3rd Pixel 5a (due to screen breaks) they have all had the overheating issue. It won't come up for months but if/when it does come up it can be during a critical time.
Hiya, I been looking for a smaller phone for months now, im on a budget, and my best option for me seems to be the 5a 5g. My concern is that Google won't update it that much longer, i think i read until november 2023. I'm alright with that as long as i can do it myself with custom ROMs. My question is, do these phones have a good history with custom ROM development?
I'm also a bit confused, are all 5a's, 5g? Or is that different phones? If so they also use different roms i assume, I don't know how many 5g's there are, but I don't want a niche phone that not many owns and won't be developed much for, so is the 5g a safe bet to that way? If not any suggestions for another phone?
Pixel 6 aint an option, i just dont like it,7 is too expensive.
I also looked at Xiaomi mi 9se its cheap, small but getting old and i feel like the pixel 5a5g is a much better phone.
Any thoughts and input is very welcome

Pixels in general are great development platforms. They're also Treble compliant so even after Google stops pushing system updates, you'll still be able to run a GSI release.

I'm with you there, I didn't upgrade from my Pixel 2 until the Pixel 5 came out. I'm not particularly impressed with the 6 or 7; I want a simple slate device like my 5, not something flashy and fancy.

Thank you for your answer. Sounds like im going to buy me a 5a then.
What is a GSI release? And system updates, does that also involve new android versions like from 13 to 14 and so on?
I looked at some of these phones used, i see a few of them have burn in on the screen, is this a weakness on this phone or does it pretty much go for all phones? any way to lower the risk for my phone getting burn in?
Thanks again

GSI: Generic System Image. No device (product) specific code, meant to be used with a separate kernel on any device

All OLED screens are susceptible to burn in. It's one of the drawbacks of OLED. Unfortunately, pretty much all mobile screens are OLED, so burn in will always be a possibility.
Burn in is caused by having a static image on the screen for long periods of time. Keep the screen off while you aren't using it, and don't leave it on something that doesn't move.
Thanks again for you answers.
Im going to be looking for a 5a, either new or used and i hope its a phone i can enjoy for a long time.
did you dismiss the 6a along with the 6? the 6a size isn't that much different than the 5a.
the 6a has a much longer published support life than the 5a, because it moves to google's chipset. it's also selling unlocked direct from google at $299 here in the US, cheaper than my 5a was in the first year.
I picked up a used 5a on eBay for under 200$ USD not a bad phone there really a lot of custom roms that I can find beside the basic asop ones and pixel experience
