can I swap motherboards

ok guys, watched the n00b disclaimer video, and of course I searched high and low, but cannot seem to find a thread on this. Both my wife and I have VZW droid 1's. I take very good car of mine so it has been flawless, unfortunately, her screen appears to be dead (only lights up, no response to touch screen, will not display images) She has USB debugging turned off so I cant access the phone from what I can tell. My question here is can I simply put her motherboard in my phone and get her information off of it? maybe turn on usb debugging while its in my case?
I know it's alot of work, but she has a lot of information stored on the phone and needs it out of it.
Any help would be appreciated. Also, if anyone has any idea what is wrong with the screen let me know, i looked at all the cables and they seem perfect. it seems like most people that have dead displays still have touch, but this has nothing, could it be simply a software issue and have nothing wrong with the hardware?
Thanks in advance guys!
Your motherboard swap should be fine.
I bought a broken droid off ebay exhibiting your issues, all it took to fix it was unplugging and replugging in the display cable. I then switched the motherboard with the one from my milestone and it worked fine, and without issue

N1 dead lcd, need to enable usb debug

Hey all, my cousin just dropped his N1 and broke the lcd screen. The touchscreen is responsive, and it's fully stock. Updated to whatever the latest official update was. I can feel it unlock, but I need screenshots of where to touch to get to USB Debugging so I can get some information off of it. He never modded or used USB Debugging so I know it's off. Computer just sees it as a drive. Please help! A video would be even better.
I've already searched a bunch but haven't found anything that helps start to finish.
Thanks!

[Q] Touchscreen not working after new screen replacement (Xperia Z C6603)

Hello and happy new year everyone,
I've just finished replacing the lcd screen of my gf's xperia z, everything worked well, except for the touchscreen. The display is on and I can see everything, but the display doesn't react to touch.
Should I open it again to see if I didn't plug anything or is the display just not working? What should I do? Please help!
Thanks in Advance

Did you solve this problem? I have exactly the same problem after Touch&LCD screen replacement and I need help?
It is not unusual that screen replacements are faulty. After getting burned myself I always check the functionality of the replacement part before installation. It is actually quite easy to simply plug in the new assembly for a test with only the back cover removed from the faulty handset.
That way a non-functioning replacement can be returned in exchange for a new one.
In your specific case you should definitely disassemble again and replug all connections. And test results before fixing the battery cover of course.

Xperia SP screen is on but itss only lighting nothing is displaying

Hi, i have installed a recovery and flashed my phone Xperia SP C5302 and after few days i found out my battery was having problems . I bought a new battery and replaced it and before i turned it on i forgot to insert the memory card where the custom rom (cyanogenmod 12) was installed ,i turned it on and the device would turn on but i can't seem to see anything else apart from the screen glowing but its black i pressed the volume button the sounds were playing,so it must be the display problem or my mistake by not inserting the memory card and trying to power it on. If its the problem by not inserting the memory card would be glad if you guys can help.

Hello, and thank you for using XDA Assist!
If your CM12 was reliant on a partition in external storage, the ROM wouldn't get very far. I think what really happened that the display connector got nudged during the reassembly (I see that the battery is a non-removable one, so some teardown must have happened).
At any rate, am connecting this thread to the forum your device experts can be found in:

Please note, to respond to replies, you will need to register for an XDA account.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
Check the display connector, just as Joel suggested.

System Running and LEDs On - but Black Screen and No Vibration

Hi there,
first of all please excuse my bad english. Now i hope for help - i searched for days in different forums and threads here, tried many solutions but nothing worked.
The story: my z3 compact fell down and the display cracked hard. I even could only use it with usb mouse.
Before that all was good: i had twrp 3.0.0.2 and Slimm Rom 6.0.1 with locked bootloader installed.
Because of the display i decided to get it repaired. But before that, i did a full wipe in twrp: basically i selected everything in the wipe-options.
So it was clear that the phone couldn't boot properly. I told the company, which would repair it about that and it seemed to be no problem.
But when i got the phone back the other day they told me, that they could change the display but weren't able to boot the system: no charging led, no vibration, nothing.
Still i had to pay the full amount...
So i took it with me and tested fastboot and flash mode. That worked, so i installed flashtool on my pc, chose the right firmware and got it flashed.
That worked like a charm but there was still no vibration and the screen stayed black while the led was working.
After that i charged the phone over night and tried all the different hard- and soft-boot methods (buttons and so on), also flashing of other firmware (KitKat instead of Marshmallow).
Further on i checked all the answers here.
But still i couldn`t get the z3 to vibrate or screen working, while it seemed to me, that the phone was nevertheless booting.
So i installed xperia companion on my pc for further testing, connected the phone and it was recognized as a "xperia z3 compact" without any problems.
Also i heard the connecting sony sound at my z3 compact. I deconnected and connected again, heard the sound a second time.
Now i'm pretty sure, that the system is running perfectly but there has to be a problem with the vibration and the screen.
Do you have any hints or solutions? Because now i don't know what to do...
Thank you in advance!
Hi, i think only 2 ways to find out if the phone is booting or not.
a) a very dark place... start the phone.. maybe the screen is not iluminted proprey ! and maybe the screen is visible ...but very limited.
b) buy a mhl to hdmi cable.. to connect from phone to a smartv.

Send it back and say the screen is not connected properly, explain all the things you have tried.
This time leave the OS on for them to test it.
It's difficult for the repair man to test if the phone has no OS, but he should have been able to see the screen backlight come on with the power.
Hi, thanks for the answers.
I already tried option a (dark place) - unfortunately without any success..
No i'll go for option b (tv) but first of all i have to to buy an mhl-adapter.
If that works, i will leave the os on and give it to the guy who tried to repair it one last time...
Alright - I'm not sure if i'm one step closer to fix the problem. But as it seems, i might have another problem:
I just plugged the "dead" device in fastboot-mode to my pc. it got recognized (fastboot devices).
When i enter in terminal
Code:
fastboot getvar all
fastboot getvar imei
fastboot getvar cid
fastboot getvar Main-Ver
fastboot getvar ro.build.fingerprint
and so on the content is always empty.
What i was able to get by getvar were the following prompts:
Code:
version-bootloader: 1286-7314 S1_Boot_MSM8974AC_LA3.0_M_2
version-baseband: 1285-6521_23.5.A.0.575
version: 0.5
serialno: (private)
product: D5803
secure: yes
My question is if that could be relevant to my screen-problem? Maybe it isn't a hardware but a software-issue?
As i already wrote, i was able to use FlashTool to flash other TFT without errors.
Also i was able to "repair" the system with Xperia Companion.
Thanks for help!
It's common problem after changing screen. You must change or make jumper on this coil on motherboard and Your screen will work again.

Hi friend do you have any idea how to make the jumper, can you please help me?
So @geronimoge , a friend of mine has z3 compact and broke the screen, he buy a mhl to hdmi adaptor ,, conect the phone to tv ( not smartTV) via hdmi and the phone is working great, of course the screen not... The adaptor cost 12 euros ... from a chinez store ..
Hi,
thanks for the replies and the help.
Yesterday i was able to check the phone with a mhl-hdmi adapter. And yes, it worked!
As it seems, the fuses were really blown by the guy, who changed the screen.
Now i guess, i have to change them:
1x screen fuse
1x vibration fuse
It would prefer that and not making jumpers because i think of safety-issues.
As i am a noob, am i able to change them?
And if so, do you have any clue where to buy the fuses in Germany or the EU?
I found a few pages online but was confused because of all the different "0402-types" according to Ohm, size and so on.
Thanks for further help!
As I said it's common issue in this model. I made few jumpers like this and never had any complaint. If You want to keep working fuse, just resolder it from any damaged phone using hot air soldering station.

If You want to make jumper You need to solder those fuse sides using any soldering iron. Just make short circuit on this.
hi, i don't know if it is that what you need:

Hi,
thank you for the answer. I also found & checked that shop.
But i'm still confused because of the different types of 0402-Fuses.
In your link there are also about 80 different types.
Does anybody know which ones (1x fuse vibration, 1x fuse screen) i'd have to buy?
