Question Google GSI - Samsung Galaxy Tab A8 (2021)

Can a Google GSI work on this device it will it result in a brick or other problems. If I can which version do I use can I just use android 12 Arm64? Supposedly if you use android 13 all of the colors are wrong.

Yes, any GSI should work fine. Make sure you don't wipe /boot and only install the GSI to /system.
You can use any ARM64 version. See this thread for more details on AOSP/Google Developer Preview GSIs.

What is treble and why is all the fuss about it?

Recently I saw that there appeared a new kind of roms which need a special recovery and, as I could find, have something to do with easier update of Android version. Also I have seen a project: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...-development/experimental-phh-treble-t3709659 which claims to have one rom file that can be flashed on a impressing number of roms. I saw the first comment by author which has a method to know if a device has support for treble and it is refered to run "treble check" app from play store on official rom. The thing is that I experimented and installed treble rom (lineage OS) from redmi 4x thread and did the check if the device is supported (the screenshot is attached below) and saw that on this rom it is supported, in contrary to MIUI. The question is about this controversion: is this device supported or not? Can I flash these ROMs from the thread? Are treble ROMs really like a universal flashable file for multiple devices?
If you flash GSI (Generic System Image) it will work on our device. Yes Treble roms are universally flashable if GSI is used, with some minimal modification for device specific. So porting roms will easier, and less time consuming.
Anyone can correct me, if i 'm wrong.

So if I flash the rim from this link specifically on redmi 4x, the device will have no harm at all?

Yes, but follow the instruction there. Our device is A-only device. Use the special recovery here for flashing. Or flash the lineageos 15.1 treble edition first just find in on our device forum.

I have seen that seamless updates require A and B partition. I want to know what I am loosing with this device by having only the A partition (what really is seamless update and how does it work)? P.S. sorry for being annoying.

As far as i know the seamlees update works this way:
In slot A you have installed any OS Example Android 8.1
In slot B there is a backup of the OS Om slot A
This mean you can install the ota of Android P (example) in one of the slots while you are on Facebook for example

Android P Treble GSI

Has anybody tried the Android P DP4 GSI on the Xiaomi Mi 8/ Mi 8 SE?
Couldn't get the treble P GSI to boot on my Mi 8 SE but I managed to get the Oreo GSI running (doesn't have notch support though).

Which GSI booted on your SE?
Other Mi8 SE users reported that every GSI they flashes resulted in a bootloop.
Can you also mention the last MIUI version you had when you flashed a GSI?
As for P, you tried the semi-GSI, right?
Some people said that they had to fix things themselves for the image to boot but did you try flashing Magisk or setting Selinux to permissive? There should be a "permissiver" zip on the P gsi thread if I'm not mistaken.
dm-verity and selinux could cause a bootloop.

Got my Mi8 SE running MIUI 9 Chinese.
Unlocked the bootloader and flashed the latest Xiaomi.EU MIUI 10 ROM as a base and then tried both: GSI for phh-Treble AOSP and Resurrection Remix phh-Treble. Both worked surprisingly well, the notch being detected was the main issue. I followed this guide on xda.
Yes it was the P semi-GSI that resulted in a bootloop. Might try the permissiver zip.

Been wanting to get the 8 se, but I've been waiting to hear if phh-treble and other GSIs work before buying. other than notch problems are there any other major issues? Once P is released and phh-treble is updated to android 9 the notch won't be a problem anymore due to AOSP notch support.
Running lineage GSI on SE too without issues (except some full screen apps which do not support notch). The minimum brightness is a bit high.

Can you point me to a guide to run Lineage os or RR on out SE?
I am familiar in flashing custom for many years but i am new to treble and just heard about it.
Unlock your bootloader, flash a TWRP and format your data partition. Then flash and try to boot the latest xiaomi.eu rom. If you succeed, format /data /system /cache and flash /system with an arm64 GSI for A only devices such as https://github.com/phhusson/treble_...d/lineage-v21/system-arm64-aonly-gapps-su.img

ok, i am running xiaomi.eu rom so thats allready done.
The img i download is allready the lineage os, what i see
And is there a completely different forum/site where just. only trebel based custom roms are stored and discussed.
Is it gapps included, because normally it has to be flashed separtly.
Can you just format and go back to any miui rom, and when wanted to trebel based, just flash img file in /system again
Sorry for all the questions

Gapps are included in the above link. You don't need to flash anything else. And yes you can always flash the stock rom. Just remember to erase /data when you change between MIUI & AOSP based ROMs.

ok, so its like normal business.
Normally when i switch between custom i allways full wipe
/dalvik
/data
/cache
/system
As long as format data was once, i dont have problem..
Can you provide links for more like RR for SE?
I didnt knew there was development at all for SE on custom roms
EDIT: https://forum.xda-developers.com/pr...opment/resurrection-remix-phh-treble-t3767688
this one is for RR, and if i am correct you linked me to the first in the V5 section, so the xiaomi mi 8 se is a ARM64 A-only device?
But what is the difference between gapps and vanilla

Gapps include google services, vanilla does not.
Mi 8/SE are ARM64 A-only devices. You can try flashing any treble based rom with a high chance to operate normally. With a decent treble implementation, there is no need for custom rom development. The device specific blobs are moved to a separate partition and are provided by vendor.

i tried to go back to miui backup..
It boots fine, but i cant get past pin code?
I know 100% its the right code, does it have to do with trying treble?

Notches are "expected" on AOSP only with P and newer Android versions.
It probably can be modded but since P is around the corner, it might not be worth it.

Installing a GSI

Since this phone is fully treble compatible it should be possible to install something like the Google android 10 GSI (directly from google) and provided you flash the android 10 vendor beforehand. Now are there any differences between those GSIs and the Roms specifically made for this phone?

Android R sometimes will reboot

Yesterday I started treble following the tutorial
1 . install treble twrp
2.install lineages 16,it's supported treble
3.download pixel Android R GSI
I tested it very smoothly. The functions are all normal. The only disadvantage is that sometimes it reboot
Below is a screenshot of Android R
Hi, I have 5 questions:
1. Where I can find modded TWRP for OnePlus 3T?
- In TWRP -> in the Terminal -> Type: treblize (is it correct?)
2. Can I use LineageOS 17.1 as Treble-enabled LOS?
3. Does Magisk works?
4. Does this Google Camera 7.3 works?
Link: https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/cfiles/gcm1/GCam_5beta10.200218.1320build-7.3.018.apk
It works great on Pixel Experience 10 ROM + OnePlus 3/3T Slow Motion Fix v2.0.1 (Magisk module).
5. Does the Google Pay works? (I'm asking because it will use Vendor partition from LOS and Google Pay doesn't work on LOS ROM's)
Thanks

Official los (16.0 as well as 17.1) does not support project treble, nor does it support A/B partitioning.
In my expirience it's really helpful to spend a little bit more time on making a post and add exact versions and threads as reference to postings like this op. Such more precise postings help to avoid misunderstandings.

Question about lack of A6 ROMs

After spending a couple of weeks searching for LineageOS for the A6 (not A6+), I've discovered that there's very little support for this device. Why is this?
Probably smaller userbase if we compare with other devices. Furthermore many things are common for most of the Exynos 7870 devices. Lack of roms shouldn't bother you, because we have GSI, so in this way you can run Android 11 and even Android 12 on A6.
Also, part of community is active on Telegram.
My A6 works very well on Lineage R mod (Android 11).

1. Go to custom recovery (recommended will be OrangeFox R11.0).
2. Wipe partitions: cache, dalvik, data, vendor, system.
3. Choose GSI from link above (I can recommend Lineage R mod but you can try different ones; choose arm32_binder64 vndklite builds), download, extract and flash it as "System Image" through custom recovery.
4. Flash vendor for A6 via custom recovery.
5. Optionally flash any custom kernel for A600X.
6. Reboot to system.
If you want typical OneUI rom then use RadicalQuack or JynxOS.

sorry lineage R mod support for A6+ S605G ?
Getting confused with the different versions for A6 / A6+ etc.
I have an SM-600FN model which I think is A6 (not S or +).
It's currently running stock 10 - is there a good 64bit ROM for this? I was thinking it'd be easy to pick out but it is old... I could only see an Android 6 64bit ROM?

It brought you to download mode probably just because you used wrong architecture of GSI. Vendor from my previous post is intended for arm32_binder64 (A64 - not arm64) vndklite GSI images.
